Absolute favorite.......2007-04-21

To fully enjoy this movie you have to be *into* it. This movie isn't about high production values or superb acting.

It's about a group of creative people who got together and had fun acting silly and making a movie. Fortunately, Vegas in Space is extremely entertaining and unpredictable from start to finish.

This film is absolutely a must see for anyone who wants to make their own no budget indie film. They had an idea, gathered friends and lots of tin foil and made their own movie in their spare time. If Doris hadn't passed away, who knows what they could have come up with next. And who could have known this little film made for laughs would wind up as widely seen as it has been.

"Vegas in Space" is basically a drag show set against the backdrop of the antics and evil-doings on an all female planet. Sent to operate undercover as showgirls from Earth, the male crew of the U.S.S Intercourse must change sex before arriving on the alien "Babes Only" planet. Once the crew become babes, they descend into the resort Vegas in Space: "an oasis of glamour in a world of mediocrity."

As a fan of camp film, I looked forward to seeing "Vegas in Space"--one drag queen is great, and an entire cast must be better ....

With most of the budget going to outrageous fright wigs and gallons of eye make-up, there wasn't much left over for special effects. But poor special effects can actually enhance a film's camp qualities. Some of the acting was dreadful--but again the standards for acceptability are different for any camp film. Bad acting, rotten special effects and camp can create a winning combination--however--whatever else you trade away as a fan of camp film, a sparkling, witty script is essential. There's simply no bargaining on that issue--even if the script is unintentionally humorous, it must still provoke laughs. In this case, a dull script allows "Vegas in Space" to sag in all the wrong places. There's just not enough wit to carry the plot forward, and that's a rotten shame. Viewers will find that they either love or loathe this film--put me in the latter category--displacedhuman

Bad...in a Good way.......2005-05-13

First off, this is a horrible movie. All the actors are dressed in outrageously campy drag, with cheesy lines, and a plot that Ed Wood would have been ashamed of. You can see the fishing wire holding up the asteroids; the cityscape of Vegas is clearly made out of cardboard and Barbie doll accessories. It's not even a B-rate movie. It's closer to P or Q.

That being said -- the actors KNOW it's a horrible movie. And if you just want to sit back and do a Mystery Science Theater on the thing, it's great. It's funny, cheesy, campy, and horrible, with more in-jokes and jabs and self-mocking than you can shake a stick at. When the actors make comments about how the Queen of Police's palace looks "kinda like a movie set" and that a nightmare is just "a bad dream sequence", you have to take the movie with a grin and a light heart.

Oscar material it's not. But it's great for what it aims to be -- a campy, ridiculous free-for-all.

Ignore all the "I loved it" reviews. They smoked way WAY way too much before watching it. This is a low budget, slow paced, boring, plotless waste of time. But at least the acting is bad! In fact I think the 'actors' smoked more than the those reviewers did.
"Drag is cool, but this movie is not". We were forced to turn it off and sent a group to the video store for an alternative; and our group has a pretty high tolerance for bad movies (heck, we launched into this one without an alternative on hand).
Save yourself some time and brain cells, buy a better movie.
