The unlikeliest cult hit of 2004 was What the (Bleep) Do We Know?, a lecture on mysticism and science mixed into a sort-of narrative. Marlee Matlin stars in the dramatic thread, about a sourpuss photographer who begins to question her perceptions. Interviews with quantum physics experts and New Age authors are cut into this story, offering a vaguely convincing (and certainly mind-provoking) theory about... well, actually, it sounds a lot like the Power of Positive Thinking, when you get down to it. Talking heads (not identified until film's end) include JZ Knight, who appears in the movie channeling Ramtha, the ancient sage she claims communicates through her (other speakers are also associated with Knight's organization). What she says actually makes pretty good common sense--Ramtha's wiggier notions are not included--and would be easy to accept were it not being credited to a 35,000-year-old mystic from Atlantis. --Robert Horton

Great and lame.......2007-09-11
This documentary is enlightening at one level and disturbing at another. To be specific, I loved the light they shed on the difference between Newtonian physics and quantum mechanics. Furthermore, the idea that our bodies emit energy when we simply think and that we can influence our health among other things was fascinating. I take it as a challenge and a personal quest that started when I read the book The Biology of Belief. This quest is driven by the fact that my child has autism and that I want to foster a healthy subconscious in him to give him the power to choose his destiny someday. It also gives me perspective for some of the energy based treatments I am seeking such as CranioSacral therapy and why they improve behavior.
The part of the movie I hated was the spiritual propaganda in support of the Ramtha school. Nights/Ramtha contradicted her/himself. On the one hand by claiming that we are all divine, and on the other by stating that little carbon units could not sin against Almighty God. I don't think that is necessary or desirable that I stop believing in the creator of the universe to benefit from learning about energy and quantum mechanics. If anything, the possibility that our minds are so powerful just makes me feel more amazed at God's creation. It makes me feel that his creation is so perfect beyond our understanding.
The movie put down the idea of believing in a creator. It was especially offensive against the Christian God mocking the truth that your sins can be forgiven. And can anyone tell me if having the [...] girl flirt with the priest behind the scene where the obese man engages in eating is a subliminal message?
I would recommend this film to people that have a strong spiritual foundation; however if you are in an exploratory phase, please consider that the path of this movie is not the path of truth.
In the movie they talked about Emoto's water experiments focusing on how thought and intention can influence water crystals. This is a profound idea that gave me a new appreciation for Holy water and for the Eucharistic bread and wine.
I'll tell you what the bleep we know........2007-09-09
We know better than to fall for thinly veiled astrology, that's what the bleep we know. When I hear that a film is about quantum mechanics, then find out later that it stars Ramtha the magic faith healer (who by the way failed to heal her late husband's HIV infection), I get very disappointed. It gets one star only because no stars is not an option.
what the bleep down the rabbit hole.......2007-09-03
The blurb that I read before buying this indicated that it was about Quantum physics and mechanics, but it ended up being about personal interpretations of spirituality. I was very disappointed in this DVD.
Fantastic and interesting.......2007-09-03
This is a magic film about life. I have already seen it twice, and shown it to friends. You can't go on living "the old way" after this.
Spiritual Thirst Somewhat Satiated.......2007-09-01
When I first saw "What the Bleep Do We Know!?," the predecessor to this much longer three-disc version, in December of 2004, I hadn't been exposed to much Spiritual Cinema. Most of my spiritual journey had been through reading books and life experiences. They were also a great way to learn, but it took much longer!! "What the Bleep Do We Know!?" paved the way for me to enjoy other films in the Spiritual Cinema Genre like "Indigo" (2005),"The Secret" (Original Edition 2006), etc. However, I was still craving more of both scientific (specifically quantum mechanics) and spiritual (specifically formerly esoteric) information. So, I was elated when "What the Bleep!?-Down the Rabbit Hole" came out. It has nearly six hours of additional interviews and a cool "cutting-edge quantum viewing mode" where you can actually influence what you see next without touching the remote:) It really is all in your mind!!! These are a couple of the features that set it apart from the first movie. It's been something substantial, ironically in an immaterial way, to keep my spritual thirst somewhat satiated for quite a bit(e)now...lol...

A beloved tabby cat becomes the catalyst for healing and hope between a young girl and her widowed father in Disney's 1964 classic, based on the enchanting fable by Paul Gallico. Set in the Scottish highlands in 1912, the story focuses on Andrew MacDhui (Patrick McGoohan) a veterinarian who, after the death of his wife, has closed his heart to goodness and empathy-- toward his animal patients and his only child. Left essentially an orphan, Mary (Karen Dotrice) finds love from her cat, Thomasina, until a tragedy injures the cat and her father orders it to be killed. A tenderhearted maiden (Susan Hampshire) finds Thomasina, detects a heartbeat, and nurses the feline back to health. Her healing powers eventually move beyond the animal kingdom into the lives of MacDhui and Mary. The stellar cast includes standout performances by Dotrice and Matthew Garber (who plays Mary's loyal chum)--better known as the duo, Jane and Michael Banks, in Mary Poppins. Best watched with kids and Kleenex. (Ages 5 and older) --Lynn Gibson
Description
Set against the beauty of the Scottish Highlands, Paul Gallico's best-selling story of a little girl's undying love for her cat comes wonderfully to life in this classic Disney adaptation. Tragedy strikes when Mary McDhui (Karen Dotrice) finds her beloved Thomasina seriously injured. Not even her stern father, a widowed veterinarian (Patrick McGoohan), can save the pet. Their only hope lies in a mysterious "witch" and the healing power of love. Conjuring up both tears and laughter, this tender film has a magical charm that will linger long in your heart.

Best of the Best .......2007-03-09
At last! This classic story of a motherless Scottish child's love for her pet and the battle of her heart-broken veterinarian father is now preserved for us on DVD. The performances of Susan Hampshire and Patrick McGoohan and magical young Karen Dotrice are unequalled in children's film to this day. Treat yourself to a wee trip to Scotland today and watch Thomasina.
The Three Lives of Tomasina.......2007-02-17
The movie was easy to order and was received shortly there after, and was in excellent shape.
Cat lovers delight!.......2007-01-29
I have loved this movie since I was a little girl. It wonderfully captures the loving bond between a cat and it's owner.
Heartwarming Family Entertainment.......2007-01-19
This is another of my childhood favorites. I never thought I would be able to find it on DVD. This is definitely a film to add to your collection.
Still a favorite.......2007-01-18
I remembered this movie from my childhood. So I ordered it for my grandchild (age 3). She absolutely loves "the cat movie" and asks to watch it over and over. Appropriate films seem to be difficult to find for a young child who does not care for animation.

A Forgotten Gem.......2007-08-17
This is one of the best high school movies of the 80's. I loved it then and love it now.
I can't help it, I love this movie.......2007-03-07
The 80's spawned one high school teen movie after another, and John Hughes was the king of that genre. But somehow along the way among the Breakfast Clubs and the Pretty in Pinks, Three O'Clock High got overlooked. It's quite rare when I actually meet someone who's heard of this comedy gem. I had quite a lot of trouble even finding a copy of it on DVD and was going to purchase a copy here on Amazon, but finally found it at a buy/sell/trade store in Hollywood.
So anyway, while I am very happy to finally have this movie on DVD in widescreen for the first time, instead of watching it on my VCR on a recorded scratchy tape, I was a little dissapointed that there were no features whatsoever on this disc (movie reccomendations don't count, you can get plenty of those on Amazon). Further proof that not enough people know or care about this movie.
Furthermore, Casey Siemaszko, the star, the heart and soul of this movie, failed to develop as a lead actor since this movie never really got any recognition, (he had a lot of supporting roles in the late 80s such as Young Guns, Stand By Me and Back to the Future) which is a shame because he is too funny in this movie. The movie has a good cast too, even though the antagonist of the film who looks 15 years too old to be in high school, he's the perfect school bully. Not to mention this movie has the best school yard fight you'll ever see.
Please, check this one out. John Hughes isn't the only one who could make good 80's highschool movies and this is certainly one of the best ones.
Great 80's flick, but watch out for the language!.......2007-03-01
This movie was filmed at my high school, and a lot of my friends are in it as extras. I remember watching it back in the 1980's and thinking it was so great, which it is very funny. I hadn't seen it for years so I recently bought the dvd so that I could show it to my kids. We sat down to watch it as a family, and I was quickly reminded of the frequent foul language in it. I hadn't taken much notice of this as a teen, but now that I have kids myself I was a bit shocked and wishing that I had some way to edit this movie! It's a fun watch, as long as you are prepared for some strong words.
Unlikely Hero.......2007-02-28
This movie follows in the footsteps of John Hughes-style, coming of age classics like 'Sixteen Candles' and 'Weird Science'. It is an absolutely hilarious movie from start to finish. Lots of funny high school moments that you can totally relate to. And an ending that will tickle your funny bone and warm your heart. I have watched this movie more than six times and I love sharing it with friends and family(they are always amazed).A must have.
"Looks like its going to be one of those days Jerry".......2006-12-07
Three O'clock High is one of the best 80's teen films there was. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to attain the instant cult status that other films of similar theme like "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and "Ferris Bueller's day off" did.
Nearly 20 years after its release, Three O'clock High is still a film that is classic in every aspect of 1980's high school antics on the big screen. With big hair, colorful clothes and an instrumental soundtrack from Tangerine Dream, the film takes us back to the day Jerry Mitchell met Buddy Revell.
Buddy Revell (played by Richard Tyson, who in film would later go on to be a pilot in "Black Hawk Down", a sinister villain in "Kindergarten Cop" and an intense Detective in "There's Something about Mary") is a new kid in school. The problem is, he's a problem child. He's big, mean and has been known to go ballistic when people touch him. Revell arrives at this new high school amid a swarm of urban legends and hallway gossip that strike fear into the student body. Jerry Mitchell is a kid who works at the school bookstore, has an occult obsessed girlfriend who is more wannabe than weird, and a friend who works on the school paper with him. The friend is in charge of finding someone to to interview Buddy to find out more about him. Through an accidental meeting in the bathroom, Jerry conveys the papers intentions to Buddy, which by now has held a sneer so long he is being compared to Charles Manson. Jerry makes the mistake of patting Buddy on the shoulder, and the rest is history: Buddy informs Jerry to meet him at 3:00pm so that they can fight. The problem? Buddy looks like a large axe murder while Jerry resembles more of a kid who is on his way to becoming an accountant or something.
The rest of the day plays out in a series of bizarre events that are wrapped up in some high school fact as well as teenage spoof reel. Jerry goes through a variety of antics to get out of the fight, and in the process slowly turns his own good image into one of trouble. By noon the entire school not only knows of the fight, but also is taking bets on how long Jerry will last. It appears Jerry is doomed, and as he continues to try and do everything he can to change things, the acts only backfire to keep him within the walls of his high school till the sound of the final bell. The movie does an excellent job in the execution of the overall filming, as it does many quick zoom shots as well as odd angles to add to the uniqueness of the overall experience we see as Jerry goes about his day.
The film is nostalgic but not too cheesy on the time period of the 80's, which is easy to scoff at now. The attention of the film is centered on the characters and the storyline a bit more than others of its genre. From the school disciplinarian resembling a Prison Warden to the constant guilt trips the principal plays on Jerry about his permanent record being marred, its idealisms and humor are easily recognizable. Tyson is superb as the scary, imposing bully type student while Casey Siemasziko does a great job portraying the small, pale student named Jerry Mitchell, who despite having a bad day, ends up finding out what its all about to stand up for yourself. A classic 80's film that never, ever got the credit it deserved.

Buster Keaton was arguably the cinema's first modernist, an old-fashioned romantic with a 20th-century mind behind a deadpan visage. His films brim with some of the most breathtaking stunts and ingenious gags ever put on film, all perfectly engineered to look effortless. And, as Kino's magnificent 11-disc boxed set The Art of Buster Keaton conclusively shows, they are among the funniest ever made. Keaton warped gags until they left the plane of reality in such shorts as The Playhouse (1921) and The Frozen North (1922), and takes a logic-defying leap into the very nature of cinema itself in his hilarious Sherlock Jr. (1924). He takes on the mechanical world with Rube Golberg ingenuity in The Navigator (1924) and perfects his match between man and massive machine in Steamboat Bill Jr. (1928), which features the funniest hurricane scene ever put to film, and The General (1927), one of the greatest comedies of all time.
In addition to the previously released 11 features and 19 shorts from the peak of Keaton's career, this set boasts the exclusive Keaton Plus, a collection of rarities and tributes. The greatest find is the long-lost ending to Hard Luck (1921), now restored to complete the film's final inspired gag. Other highlights include newly discovered scenes from Daydreams (1922) and The Love Nest (1923), entertaining excerpts from Keaton's 1951 TV show Life with Buster Keaton (he's still got it!), and his rare dramatic turn in the 1954 television play The Awakening. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
At long last - all the goodies in one spot.......2007-09-16
Those of us who bought The Art of Buster Keaton on VHS back in the mid-90s ended up having to buy it all over again when the DVD revolution hit. That's okay, though, because Buster is always worth it. The fun of the boxed set is the extra disk full of rarities and tidbits (the best being John Bengtson's offerings). All of Buster's features and most of his shorts are here, though there are missteps here and there. The music offered on Sherlock Jr. is atrocious, and the lack of commentaries or other offerings on the films themselves make this collection pale somewhat in comparison with the Harold Lloyd extravaganza that followed in 2005.
Other DVD collections have been released in the interim, but my heart has a special place for this one, because it was the first after a long, dry spell. I may add to my Buster Keaton film sets, in order to provide myself with better versions of certain films, but I'll never replace this one.
Best Collection of Keaton Silent Films.......2007-09-11
I think that this is the best collection of Keaton's Slient Films that I have seen. I was not sure at first if I should or should not buy this product. My husband is a huge fan and the few movies that I had seen of Busters on the AMC channel I had liked. However, this collection far exceeded my expectations. For this review I have decieded to list out all of the titles in the collection which is something that Amazon doesn't do.
1. Our Hospitality
2. Sherlock, Jr.
3. College
4. Hard Luck
5. The Electric House
6. The Blacksmith
7. The Navigator
8. The Boat
9. The Love Nest
10. Steamboat Bill, Jr.
11. Covict 13
12. Daydreams
13. Three Ages
14. The Goat
15. My Wife's Relations
16. Battling Butler
17. The Haunted House
18. The Frozen North
19. Seven Chances
20. Neighbors
21. The Balloonatic

24. One Week
25. The General
26. The Playhouse
27. Cops
28. Go West
29. The Scarecrow
30. The Paleface
Besides these movies there is a bonus disc which shows Buster Keaton playing a serious role. Overall I thought that this was one of the best collection of silent films that I have bought recently.
"This fellow Keaton appears to be the whole show.".......2007-07-15
Thus utters a confused patron of a vaudeville house who is confronted by Buster Keaton and his minstrels accompanied by a conductor and his orchestra, all clones of Buster Keaton in the classic short "The Playhouse". He really was the whole show during his independent years - writer, director, star. This collection consists of Keaton's surviving work from the years he was an independent film maker from the year 1920 when he struck out on his own after partnering with Roscoe Arbuckle for two years, and before he made the tragic decision to sign with MGM in 1928. It seems there are as many opinions on which of Keaton's features and shorts during his silent years are his finest and which are merely good as there are viewers of his films. To me, Buster's best work was when he was in a role in which there was an urgent matter of the heart involved - whether the object of his affection was a locomotive, a girl, or in the case of "Go West", a cow by the name of "Old Brown Eyes". Buster usually played a shy sincere fellow, often thrown into adverse circumstances he did not fully comprehend. However, he was resourceful and courageous in a pinch and always found a way to triumph in the end. When he first decided to go into the film industry he took a camera apart and put it back together just to see how it worked, and his love of the camera and what it could do showed in films like "The Playhouse" and "Sherlock Jr." where, in addition to Buster's usual stunts and displays of physical agility, he made use of special effects that were definitely way ahead of their time. There is an extra disc in this set entitled "Keaton Plus" which mainly consists of Keaton's work after his time at MGM. There are two of his better Educational Pictures shorts, "Aleez Oop" (1934) and "Jail Bait" (1937). There are also several TV appearances, including a purely dramatic role Buster took in a segment of "Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Presents" entitled "The Awakening" from 1954. Also included are various tributes, a couple of commercials Buster starred in, and a rather extensive photo gallery.
No doubt this set is a large financial investment. If you are unfamiliar with Keaton's work and would like a "test drive", try either "Buster Keaton: The Great Stone Face of Comedy" or the three disc set "The Buster Keaton Collection" by St. Clair Vision. Both sets are only ten dollars and both include "The General" and quite a few of his silent era shorts. Then you can make an informed decision about this set.
Genius.......2007-05-18
SO glad I spent literally half a paycheck on this collection . Keaton was , quite simply , brilliant . His amazing stunts and incredible agility put so many present-day actors to shame . As for that signature "stone face"....The man could say so much more with his eyes than any spoken words could ever express . Truly unsurpassed talent .
Buying Asian versions.......2007-01-10
I know spending $100 seems expensive when you can buy an Asian copy on eBay for $30 or $40. But when you do that, nothing is going to David Shepard to compensate him for acquiring these films, transfering them to video, doing some restoration, and adding a sound track. Even if these films are in the public domain, they don't save themselves. It takes time and money to do that. Please help preserve our rapidly disintegrating silent film heritage and buy the DVDs produced by the people doing the work of preservation.
