Description

Yes, there's something about Keri. Keri Russell (Felicity, Mission: Impossible III) is the object of a likable dweeb's romantic obsession in the cheerfully raunchy comedy Eight Days a Week. Russell plays Erica, a hormone-revving girl-next-door who tells nerd's nerd Peter (Josh Schaefer) they're "just friends." But Peter has grander designs. Perhaps he can win her attention by paying constant attention. So Peter camps out beneath Erica's balcony. All day, all night, he witnesses the passing parade of neighborhood events that is nuttier than he is. And perhaps this Romeo's time is near. 1 out of 5 stars Bad Movie.......2007-04-03

This movie is really awful. It "might" be funny if the viewer is a low IQ teen-ager but for the average movie-goer it is just plain bad.
The movie is billed as a romantic comedy and I suppose it is but the humor is not funny and the romance is not romantic.
The lead character sleeps on the sidewalk outside the house of the object of his affection. His parents are nutty and his neighbors are nutty. None of the characters are believable and the dialogue is gibberish.

5 out of 5 stars 'american pie' for the thinking man........2007-03-16

i used to work at a used movie store and i would see this video every day for about a year before i finally checked it out.

in the 5 years since i originally bought it on vhs (and more recently on dvd!!!) i have watched it at least 20 times.
for me, it gets funnier every time.
this movie would never be confused w/an oscar award winning movie, but it's one of the most true-to-life comedies about sex that i've ever seen....definently the funniest.

this is not a goofy comedy like 'american pie',nor does it mesh in with a lot of the stereotypical movies that are a dime a dozen the last few years. there are no 'stifler' type characters in this movie.
this is just about a kid who just graduated high school and has been in love w/his neighbor since he first saw her. she's moving away to go to college and he gets advice from his grandfather to try to win her over.

this is one of the greatest observational movies that you'll never hear about. there's not too much in the way of break-through acting, but it is a classic to me.

recommended to anyone who likes to laugh and who has an open mind to what they think movies should be.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious.......2006-08-30

I watched the middle to end of this movie on Comedy Central and after never seeing the start of it I knew I had to buy it. I must say I love it, it's so raw and probably more accurate about being a teenager and that last summer before you leave. I love how this movie wasn't afraid to say anything. That's refreshing.

5 out of 5 stars Thank you Keri!.......2006-05-22

Thank you Keri Russell for making this movie! One day you will be very glad you made this movie because it captures you at your most beautiful and sensual, and you will be thusly immortalized. Physical beauty is elusive and enigmatic for those who are not blessed with it, and all too ephemeral for those who are. I am certain you will someday be very thankful because it is rare for an actress to have the opportunity to showcase her looks and talent at her peak, yet this film does just that. Believe me that many of us value this tremendously.

The movie itself is pretty good and the transfer is clean. Special features are few, though it has the best one of all - Keri Russell. That's all we need, however, and she is the only reason I give this five stars.

3 out of 5 stars A decent teen romantic comedy starring a gorgeous pre-Felicity Keri Russell. .......2005-11-03

I caught this movie on late night cable one weekend. I was suffering from a prolonged allergy attack that had knocked me on my @$$ and made me wish that someone would put me out of my misery. Usually, when I'm sick like this, I'll watch stuff on T.V. that I normally would pass on since my mind is somewhere else. While flipping through the movie channels I saw that a movie starring the extremely cute Keri Russell (best known as T.V.'s Felicity) called Eight Days a Week was coming on, that it was Rated-R and contained strong sexual content. Curious to see what Ms. Russell looked like minus most of her clothes (though she doesn't go all the way), I proceeded to watch the film expecting a disaster/guilty pleasure.

To my surprise, this movie turned out to be a decent little teen-romantic-comedy. The acting is solid, there were some genuinely funny moments, the main character who camps out on Keri's lawn reminded me sometimes of Woody Allen as a teenager and Ms. Russell was extremely beautiful and sweet. (On the completely shallow and superficial front, Keri Russell doesn't actually do any nudity, though she comes frustratingly close at numerous occasions.)

The basic plot involves Peter (Joshua Schaefer), a nerdy teen who has a huge crush on the gorgeous Erica (Keri Russell) who lives across the street. He tries to get her attention but she's wrapped up in a relationship with a stereotypical jock. Peter than decides after getting advice from his Grandfather to camp out on her lawn (all day and night) and not leaving until she lets him profess his admiration for her and hopefully starts going out with him.

That's essentially the whole plot. There are various characters that weave in and out of the movie. In addition to Peter's grandpa, he has a best friend who is extremely oversexed and will do anything to get laid. Erica's parents are extremely devout Christians and are very strict with her. There's a middle-aged woman with whom Peter's friend has a crush on. One of the neighbors also is carrying mysterious trash bags out to his car and Peter and his friend start thinking that the guy might have killed somebody and is disposing of the body (of course they're very wrong.)

The movie features some pretty insightful viewpoints on teen relationships and society in general. I particularly liked Peter's viewpoints on almost everyone who lives near him and how peculiar their behavior sometimes was. On the downside, I found his best friend to be somewhat annoying and his attempts at being funny somewhat forced. He's the apparent goofy sidekick/comic relief of the movie, and unfortunately, he ground the movie to a halt whenever he was on screen. There's also a couple of pointless subplots involving people in his neighborhood that just come across as an effort to pad out the movie's running time.

But most people will probably check out this movie specifically for (a pre-Felicity) Keri Russell. She really did a great acting job and made her character genuinely sweet. Once she makes her entrance in the movie, it's not any mystery as to why Peter is madly in love with her.
Anyone who is a fan of her will want to check out this movie ASAP. The opening scene, for instance, has her frolicking in a water sprinkler wearing a wet t-shirt and extremely tight shorts. There's another in which she's in a very tight bikini and the camera slowly pans over her entire body in explicit detail. She does numerous revealing shots (including a couple of surprising crotch shots) in tight dresses and underwear, but unfortunately, no nudity. But it's refreshing that the writer/director actually gave her character some depth and didn't treat her completely as eye candy (though she excels in that department).

While some of the movie gets quite raunchy at times, it is actually surprisingly restrained at times and doesn't come close to approaching American Pie gross-out territory.

While not anything memorable or spectacular, Eight Days of Week does have its moments and isn't a complete waste of time if you happen to run across it on cable or your local video store. It's a great showcase for the lovely and talented Keri Russell and is much better than a lot of similar teen romantic comedies. I give it 3 1/2 stars out of 5.

Eights Days a Week is rated R and contains strong sexual content, nudity and language.

4 out of 5 stars Mostly classic.......2007-07-05

Unlike many of the budget priced DVD sets, FRIGHT NIGHT CLASSICS features one movie per disc. Thus, eight films = eight DVDs. There's only a single clunker in this set-- one of those "shot in a week" Philippino specials. The rest range in quality from not bad to really good. Film-to-DVD transfers of ST. CLAIR DVDs tends to be quite fine.

For the ultimate in fright films, check out the HORROR 100 MOVIE PACK. It's a monumental collection of monsters, freaks and the undead.

3 out of 5 stars An ADULT FilmýNOT a FAMILY Film.......2004-04-03

This film is not for the average person. It is full of continuous conversation and small talk, so be sure you like this kind of film before you get it. That said, it is about an Irish-American extended family who gather together at one of the relative's houses to celebrate St. Patrick Day. The film displays some Irish customs in the way that My Big Fat Greek Wedding displays many Greek customs (the latter being a much better film). I bought this film hoping for it to be something good to watch as a family, with my young daughter. Fortunately, I previewed it alone before allowing my daughter to watch it (it's rated PG-13, and my daughter is 10). More than anything else, this film explores the sex lives of three-quarters of those at the family reunion, meaning from young adults through retired oldsters. They have done a good job of it, with some sensitive portrayals, marriage conflicts (that would be most appreciated by those married 15 years or longer), some good Irish music, and a few humorous moments thrown in. I don't feel it's an appropriate subject for watching as a family, except perhaps with older teenagers, or adult children. I bought this film, but it's not one I'm eager to watch again.

4 out of 5 stars See It!.......2002-06-27

I'll confess. I only knew about this because the singer David Ault is in it and mentioned it at an appearnace here years ago. Check him out under Popular Music.
I liked it although the sound quality of the film seems to be off in the beginning.
Regardless, it has some humorous touching moments and characters that can remind us of the misfits in our own family.

4 out of 5 stars Quirky Off-Beat Low Budget Indie That Works.......2002-06-27

It's obvious from viewing that this film was made with little funding but somehow rises above that limitation to tell a touching humorous story of family dysfunction. It isn't necessarily the names above the title that steal the show, but the other familial characters that shine.

A Donegal grows along the jowl and chin with no mustache - like the Amish or Leprechaun's. Then, on the morning of St. Patrick's Day, right before the big parade, they face-off on Main Street Route 66 and are judged to see who has the best Donegal. In this year's contest the competition is fierce.

1 out of 5 stars Not very good..........2007-08-05

This film had so much potential. To tell the stories of these small town people. The filmmakers had a real chance to tell a beautiful story. Unfourtunately they made a shallow, amatuerish film about the contest not worthy of the characters involved. One positive. It's got nice packaging... So if you like a cool looking DVD you may like it.

    5 out of 5 stars Loved it.......2003-12-11

I loved this movie and I am not usually the documentary type. Very funny. Great characters in the town. Worth it for sure. Great music to boot. My kids love the music! We play the music all the time for them.

In this epic mini-series based on Jules Verne's novel, Englishman Phileas Fogg (Pierce Brosnan) prides himself on his clockwork discipline. Fogg is so confident of his ability to beat the clock that he bets a small fortune with members of the Reform Club that he can use modern transportation methods to circle the globe in 80 days! With servant Jean Passepartout (Eric Idle), Fogg soon finds himself crossing war-torn Paris, traversing the jungles of India and Burma, and dueling with Jesse James on the American prairie! And if that weren't complicated enough, Fogg is the prime suspect in a London bank robbery, and Detective Wilbur Fix (Peter Ustinov) is pursuing Fogg and Passepartout, in hopes of returning Fogg to England to be arrested-and to collect the reward money!

The voyage even brings an unforeseen responsibility when Fogg rescues the beautiful Princess Aouda (Julia Nickson) and she arouses long-dormant feelings in Fogg's bachelor heart. Can Fogg acknowledge those feelings? Will he win the bet? Will he give Fix the slip? The ending is one you don't want to miss!

If you enjoyed this movie like I did on Tv don't buy the DVD. It is missing some of the best parts of the film. I would rate this a 0 on the star scale if I could.

5 out of 5 stars Around the World in 80 Days (1989 version).......2005-07-25

This 2 disc 5 hour version of Around the World in 80 Days was pretty much like the others -(The original Mike Todd version starring David Niven- and the newest one starring Jackie Chan.)
However, if you are a Pierce Brosnan fan, this is 5 delightful hours of watching delicious Pierce Brosnan. His "English" behavior is quite "proper" and amusing, and he carries this movie easily.
The "All Star Cast" was very enjoyable, too.

    1 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor.......2005-07-20

The worst series transfer I have ever seen. First, the color is
poor, orange skin, etc. More importantly, the producers have
included the endless repeats of logos/credits/overview scenes,
used in the original telecast, adding up to almost an hour of "noise". Almost impossible to edit while watching, for your viewing pleasure I recommend that lovers of this series, of which I am one, tape the excellent 5 hour version frequently shown on cable TV without interruptions, and make your own video disc. The most delightful version of this work, featuring great erformances by Eric Idle and Pierce Brosnan, it deserves a better fate. Avoid this DVD version like the plague.

5 out of 5 stars The Best 80 Days Adaption Ever!!!.......2005-01-30

With an amazing cast and beautiful story, this miniseries is awesome! True to the original story, this miniseries has everything you would like and is just as good as the 1956 version with David Niven. I should let you know that nothing has been cut out from the original. You just have to press the skip button during the credits to see part 2.

    5 out of 5 stars Hilarious satire.......2007-04-14

From the opening line of episode 1 "The headlines tonight; Bottomley (a member of the former conservative British Government) refreshed after three days on cross" this is the best comedy/satire show you will find on DVD. Dating from 1994 it is mostly a vicious parody of UK BBC TV program Newsnight, as presented by Jeremy Paxman.

Nothing is sacred in this show, presenters, events, politicians and the royal family are all satirised brilliantly. Chris Morris is one of the great unsung heroes of British comedy, and as the anchor man (i.e. Paxman) he is perfect. Interviewing a woman organiser of the London Jam festival he quickly reduces her to tears saying:
"How dare you come on this program and say hey look at me I'm raising £1500 for the homeless - you could raise more money by sitting outside a tube station with a hat on the ground, even if you were twice as ugly as you are, which is very ugly indeed".

Another noteable aspect to this show is that it has the first TV appearance of Steve Coogans Alan Partridge character. Here he mans the Sports desk which leads to some marvellous moments.

Although 13 years later some of the political characters are distant memories, in general the show still hits the bullseye everytime. So long as people like Chris Morris are around the high and mighty will always be looking over their shoulder (which is how it should be).

5 out of 5 stars Those are the headlines! God, I wish they weren't........2007-02-17

The headlines tonight: NATO annulled after delegate swallows treaty, car drives by window in town and Leicester man wins right to eat sister. Those are the headlines! Now fact me till I fart!

I was 13 when this life-changing show came on TV. Reaching a small audience on BBC2 at night, The Day Today was a parody of the distinctly British way of News programming, exaggerating all the usual idiosyncrasies and formalities. My granddad made me suffer the News every night when I was a kid so I really got the sense of humor that this show layed on so thickly.

Chris Morris is your utterly, utterly deadpan Anchorman delivering lines like '"I'm so sorry", yells exploding cleaner' to perfection. Alan Partridge (my first introduction to this popular character) is the sports presenter who hasn't a clue how to commentate or appeal to his audience, Peter O'Hanarha-hanrahan is the dunderhead foreign correspondent, Colaterie Sisters does the business news and Valerie Sinatra takes care of the roads in The Day Today Travel Tower a mile above the centre of London. There's also Sylvester Stewart doing the weather but explaining it with cryptic double-meanings that no one could ever figure out. Example 'Thunder and lightning about the volume of a Thin Lizzie concert.' Crazy one-off reporters such as Jonathan Sizz, Eugene Fraxby, Donnald Beth'le'Hem, Harfynn Teuport and Suzanna Geckaloyce are all equally as good despite their small amount of air time.

But the best of them all, without a doubt, is the hard-as-fock, the man without fear, the terrifyingly important mean machine Ted Maul. Always sent out to scope the most dangerous stories (such as a commuter train full of businessmen who have turned into barbarians because of track delays), Ted demands you pay attention and scares you into accepting the facts with his frighteningly authoritative voice. He's just so great, I cannot describe.

There was also several stories by American reporter Barbera Wintergreen with her horribly blown-out NTSC color. Barbera mostly reported on the many, many deaths of American serial killer Chapman Baxter, who always got the chair but actually died on it in various different ways (an electric toilet, while stuffing himself with cheeseburgers).

Without a single duff story, The Day Today is infinitely funny and endlessly quotable. Back in 1994, we never had MP3 players or sound-clips on the internet, so I actually made mix tapes of all the best bits (really hard to choose) and memorised practically every episode from beginning to end. To this Day (today) I still remember it all. Why haven't I bought the DVD yet? And remember, fact times importance equals NEWS!
