Fun for fans, but only fans.......2005-11-28
This chronologically arranged career study consisting of theatrical trailers (coming attractions), film clips, and outtakes plays like a Special Features disc for a special collection rather than a stand-alone offering. So if you don't own any of their films, none of this will make much sense to you. However, Abbott and Costello completists will have fun watching a lot of footage not currently available elsewhere (not even on Universal's Franchise Collections), especially the "blooper" reels. (If you've been dying to hear Lou Costello swear, here's your opportunity.)

I have this title on VHS, so replacing it with a DVD had been on my TODO list along with quite a number of films. The reason I bought this budget title on VHS in the first place is the inclusion of all those trailers, but the tape was low-quality, and worst of all, the letters GT (for Good Times) was bugged in the bottom corner of the screen, which is a personal pet peeve. Lo and behold, that annoyance has been digitally remastered and is a constant on the DVD version. Major letdown, but typical. Additionally, new (sub) titles have been added on each trailer, listing the title and date of the film at hand. In other words, if you are a fan of the novelty value of trailers, like me, then don't waste your money on this, since they get demolished on this collection. Otherwise, it's just a promo reel for their back catalog.

This DVD is just a lot of special features from every Abbott and Costello movie ever Except "One Night in the Tropics" because it is not a starring roll for Abbott and Costello. Is includes Trailers, Outtakes, Scenes, and Images from all there movies that are listed here.

I love Abbott and Costello. I always have. Well, sure they were retired, if not dead, when I started seeing their films as a kid, but I loved them nonetheless. I tell you this because if you are contemplating this DVD you must be a lover of Abbott & Costello. I caution you now, this is no documentary, and a very sad attempt at a highlights reel. It simply amounts to being trailors for several of their films. I enjoyed it because I saw many of them on Saturday morning television with my grandfather, and only a small fraction of them seem to be available on DVD. But, if you are not a big fan, this DVD may be a big disappointment.
Description
Show #1: Jack and the Beanstalk: Bud and Lou meet Mother Goose! One of the few colour feature films Abbott and Costello made, it actually starts out in black and white but soon springboards into a truly colourful fairy tale. Lou plays the bumbling fool Jack, repeatedly tricked by the conniving Mr. Dinglepuss (Abbott) who sells him the magic beans. Their adventures take them up the beanstalk where they find a magic castle, a talking harp, and a hen that lays golden eggs. They also encounter a fearsome giant in one of the funniest and most enjoyable of Bud and Lou's many movies. Music, merriment and laughter combine to bring fun for the whole family! This feature presentation also includes a special bonus with the addition of the original theatrical trailer for Jack and the Beanstalk.
Show #2: Abbott and Costello in the Movies: Bud Abbott and Lou Costello originally teamed up in vaudeville and burlesque shows before getting their big break on radio. Signed by Universal Pictures, the duo progressed to the movies and continued through the Forties and Fifties with the wild antics and slapstick humour which made them one of the great movie comedy teams of all time. Here is a selection of original theatrical trailers which show the boys at their best - truly a cornucopia of Abbott and Costello!

2nd bad dvd.......2007-08-05
I ordered 2 of these and they were both the same. The dvd had pot marks (indentations) in it and when it got to that area my dvd player froze and I had a heck of a time getting it to open to take it out. I can understand getting one bad but the replacement was exactly the same. Getting a refund. They obviously got bad discs when making this particular movie. I will wait a while in hopes they will change the discs.
