Good Movie.......2007-06-09

This is a very clever, enjoyable movie. Pierce Brosnan is good, as usual. It is a well done who-dun-it. I will watch it over and over.

TEACHER PET.......2004-01-07

MURDER 101 written and directed by Bill Condon (who would later grab an Oscar for GODS AND MONSTERS) is a great little movie that I had never heard of. Suffice to say, Condon's neat little script gives us two big surprises at the end. The murderer is hard to spot and the ending is just "Wow, did I just see what I think I saw?"
At any rate, Pierce Brosnan in his pre Bond days stars as a best-selling crime writer who teaches a class in how to write the perfect crime novel. Brosnan gained famed writing a true crime thriller that sent his friend to prison for murdering his wife. Brosnan returns to teaching, to meet his estranged wife, played sweetly by Dey Young, who has taken up with another professor, played smarmily by Mark L. Taylor (Fangs). Another friend of his is Detective Mike Dowley (played with a surly masculinity by Antoni Carone). Soon, though, things take a demonic twist when Pierce is set up for murder by one of his students. Rachel Sbarge in a crafty performance seems to be the one who is setting him up.
The pace is good; the script witty and inventive; and overall, a tidy, surprising mystery.

A Surprisingly good little mystery.......2003-06-19

With another actor I may have given this 3 stars for me... as in a good little mystery. With brosnan in it i give 4 stars.

Great movie for a Great price.......2002-01-04

This DVD was purchase for entertainment, plus you can't beat the price. I was very pleasently surprised with the film, Pierce Brosnan's performance was exceptional. If you are a Movie buff this is a must see.

Brosnan at his best.......2001-09-05

Brosnan does it again with his intelligence and ability to keep the viewer's attention. Murder 101 is an above average script and tailor made for Pierce. You care about his character and the surrounding events as they unfold. I found myself wishing that the college course, Murder 101, extended over several semesters/quarters (i.e., 101, 101a, 101b and 101c). If you are a Brosnan fan, you won't be disappointed. If you are not, you will be.

This is a great comedy about 5 cash strapped New Zealand college students who find a huge amount of marijuana in their squatters quarters,making a quick profit until the real owner of the crop shows up producing hilarious potentially dangerous results.It's a must see independent comedy!!!!!!!!

Unfunny, stereotyped junk........2005-08-10

The sensitive writer is, of course, gay, though he doesn't seem to think so until the film is half over. I got all the jokes and found 90% of them to not be funny. This is just a bunch of testosterone-laden misogynistic schtick masquerading as a satire when it's in exactly the same position as what it seems to think it's making fun of. Instead of being subversive, as it intends, it reinforces everything such a satire suggests that it dislikes.

The best scene, though, which earns it its extra star, is a self-reflexive moment in which an acting class, consisting of actors who have already appeared in the film go over the lines and comment on how bad the film is. Unfortunately, scenes as self-reflexive as this are few and far between. Weidman ultimately champions his heroes way too much, when their entire goal is to make derivative crap and make money, which is apparently Weidman's goal as well.

It's easy to compare this film to _Cecil B. DeMented_, which it precedes, but John Waters understands satire much better than Mark Weidman, though this film is so bad it might have inspired him.

I bought this dvd thinking it was a made for TV movie staring Mary Stuart Anderson. It was not. Too bad AOL can't provide more information on the products they are selling.
