Product Description

Actor Griffin Dunne improves a bit on his first film as a director, Addicted to Love, with this drama-comedy about a family of witches. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock play spell-casting sisters of different temperaments: the former is a high-living, free-spirited sort, while Bullocks character is a homebody who can not get around a family curse that kills the men in their lives. A widowed single mom, Bullock gets into a jam with an abusive Bulgarian (Goran Visnjic) and is helped out by her sibling, but the result brings a good-looking, warm, inquisitive cop (Aidan Quinn) into their lives. The film has a variety of tonal changes--cute, scary, glum--that Dunne can not always effectively juggle. But the female-centric, celebratory nature of the film (the fantasies, the sharing, the witchy bonds) is infectious, and supporting roles by Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing as Kidman and Bullocks magical aunts are a lot of fun.

5 out of 5 stars Not completly correct with certain concepts of Witchcraft but the closest Hollywood has gotten........2007-08-30

I love this movie. Despite myself practiceing the craft and this movie being slightly wrong about some certain concepts, overall it's damn good for Hollywood. We don't kill people or bring them back from the dead, or even mess with people's lives. But the overall concept in the movie was correct. Do see this movie even if you are a Witch or not. It's awesome.

1 out of 5 stars Skip this movie.......2007-08-05

You're better off going to the library and checking out the book version of Practical Magic, a truly delightful book filled with interesting characters about love, and sisters.
This movie on the other hand is a psuedo-feminist typical dull chick flick devoid of the magic and beauty of the book it's based on.
They took all the good stuff out like the relationship between one of the characters daughters, and her trying to flee her aunts so they could lead a normal life, or the science teacher and filled it with high fructose corn syrup cornness. For the real better story, just read the book instead.

5 out of 5 stars Magic is right!!!.......2007-08-01

I love this movie! It gives witchcraft a great view. It's the story of two orphaned sisters who were born into a family of witches. Through the good times and bad, the magic of family, love, and yes, witchcraft prevails!

5 out of 5 stars There's a little witch in all of us, as Aunt Jet would say.......2007-07-20

This is such a beautifully, well-written movie. You really believe Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are sisters, and descendants of witches at that. I fell in love with their home (which by the way was not a real Victorian home but a shell). Trying to replicate the home on the Sims2Exchange but without decent blueprints, you need a wee bit of magic to create it. After viewing on TV, I had to buy the DVD. It's romantic but not mushy romantic. Any movie with Sandra Bullock in it is worth watching. She is such a versatile actress. So gather your love ones around you and prepare to be enchanted in a practical magic sort of way.

5 out of 5 stars So Magical.......2007-07-12

I loved this movie. Anything with magic I love. Sandra Bullock, and Nicole Kidman does an excellent job playing as two sisters who are modern day witches. It's just magical, I love it!!!!

The magic scene sure has changed since Merlin's day. If writer-director Jon Jacobs's Lucinda's Spell is any gauge, modern spell casters are the equivalent of grunge rockers, hipsters doing their own thing on the fringes of society. Set in New Orleans, the drama covers the days before the Eve of Beltrane, and Jason (Jacobs), the last in Merlin's bloodline, must choose the mother of his child during a spell casting contest. Bottle blonde Jason slinks and glowers and poses his way through New Orleans as he hunts for his son, born of a one-night stand five years before, but the picture is all but stolen by Christina Fulton as Lucinda, the New Orleans "sex witch" who just happens to be the mother of his child. With more costume changes than Cher and more characters in her closet than Tracey Ullman, Lucinda plays everybody's fantasy with a breathless vitality, sliding from one persona to the next without losing her essential spark. A modest but colorful production, it never succumbs to the sexploitation one would expect with the tag line "sex is magic," though the smoke-and-mirrors, demon-conjuring climax does suggest a B movie version of Kenneth Anger imagery: sexual but not particularly sexy. Like many an American indie production, there's more conversation than spectacle, but it's a charming production centered on a spirited performance by Fulton, an actress on the verge of a breakthrough. --Sean Axmaker

4 out of 5 stars with commentary, special........2007-02-01

At first glance, this film may push away some viewers with it's eccentric and erotic style but it's a film with different layers to it. Watch the behind the scenes, the film opening and the speech by Jon Jacobs and the more spiritually inclined will get what he talks about.
Watch the film with the commentary from the director and you may also see another side to the movie, beyond the obvious bizzare and entertaining, low-budget film.
It's like a "midnight show, cult film", it stands in it's own category.

4 out of 5 stars I'm in it.......2005-04-18

My names ajax, and i played the little kid they're all fighting over. you know, lucinda's kid? being in the movie was a cool expirience, even though i only got 100$.
Anyway, enjoy the movie!

5 out of 5 stars if love cheesy, you'll love this!.......2005-01-18

Warning: the morals of the characters and the characters themselves might be a bit distasteful for some. However, it's artisitic and it's a ficitional movie, so the perspectives are going to be different than reality... including ethics, science, and magic(k).

Lucinda's Spell has great composition of visuals, music, and cheesy 'hollywood' myth and magic. It's like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but more sexually focused (yes, more than last two seasons of BtVS)!

This is my favorite independent movie of all time. (It beats Kevin Smith films on my list! [insert shock]) It is for fans of movies like The Rocky Horror Picture Show... actually I think it should be shown as a double feature with it. This is definitely another great cult classic!

(in case the designers are looking.. I loved the original cover design, this new one takes away from the feel and attraction to the movie!)

4 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable If Imperfect.......2003-11-24

This is good movie. It is not flawless though. You can see where they had to cut corners for their limited budget. But all in all it is a fun cult movie. Worth checking out. It needed more naked chicks though.

5 out of 5 stars Great Moviemaking!!!!!.......2003-11-16

This is a fabulous piece of filmmaking. Anyone who didn't enjoy it is off their rocker. It's a fun and simple story of a long lost wizard who travels to New Orleans to find his bride.

Christina Fulton and Jon Jacobs and co-star Leon Herbert are great in this movie. Very watchable, very fun, very good film. 'Nuff said. And check out Jon Jacobs' new comedy movie called HEY DJ. Look for it at http://www.heydjmovie.com and see the great official movie site for HEY DJ! It's even better than Lucinda's Spell!

This is a Wacky, scary, funny ... , tripped out, never seen this kinda ... before movie experience... itz a good thing I seen this two movies together as a double bill, otherwise I wouldn't have known for sure that it was intended to be so off the wall.
But I'm guessin' this ain't no accidental ... . And these people mean to throw us a curve ball.

Five Stars for me! Super Value.

Christina Fulton is Hotter than Hell and had me on the floor laughing.
