Product Description

Set against the colorful backdrop of the Los Angeles dog walking scene, The Dogwalker follows the moving, transformational journey of Ellie Moore (Diane Gaidry), on the run from her latest abusive boyfriend. Down and out on the mean streets of L.A, rescue comes in the unlikely form of Betsy Wright (Pamela Gordon), a misanthropic Dogwalker in need of help with her business and struggling with her own dark past. The unusual relationship between the cranky dogwalker and her unstable apprentice sets the stage for the emotional transformation Ellie must undertake.

5 out of 5 stars Dogwalker is a charmer.......2007-09-03

I saw this movie a couple of years ago at a LA indy festival, and was expecting to see a ho-hum so-so little film that didn't have the clout to go to Sundance. Boy, was I wrong! This film captivated me from the first scene to the last, and not just because my dog was friends with one of the four-legged stars. The performances evoked by director Thelemaque were very substantial, heart-felt and often multi-dimensional. And kudos, too, the the animal wrangler who had to deal with all the four-legged stars and their owners. The dogs, most of whom were rank amateurs, did splendidly. Given that I had never seen any of the performers before (except Zoe, the dog who runs away), I came away wanting to see most of these people in other works, and definitely wanting to see something else directed by Thelemaque. The story, while a little predictive, was beautifully unveiled rather than the slap-in-the-face that a poorer production would have evoked. Scene editing and continuity were well done with no visible flaws.
I left the viewing actually feeling for the characters and knowing that I had seen something special. And it is one of those stories that sticks with you and has you telling your friends around the water cooler, "I saw something special at the cinema this weekend. You should try to see it, too."
Now, I can finally get the DVD and actually share it with my friends.

5 out of 5 stars Dogwalker Movie is Outstanding.......2007-07-29

I highly recommend this movie. It is a realistic portrayal of a victim of abuse who escapes, and with difficulty and help from another older victim of abuse makes a new life for herself as a dogwalker.

The acting, directing, and photography are all very good. Support independent film makers and buy a copy of this movie now!

You really have to enjoy independent film/movie makers. "The Dogwalker" was outstanding. Jacques Thelemaque did a fantastic job with the story and directing. The acting was great and on-time. I found the movie to be moving and funny. A treasure to own. The shorts on the DVD are an expression on their own. Got to admire "Transaction".

When he stumbles upon an old woman named Alma and her dog Lucky, he believes his luck may finally be changing, as the woman's daughter, Helene, hires him to take care of the flinty old matriarch. Jerry quickly finds out that he has bitten off more than he bargained for when Helene and her sexually charged teenage daughter each want more from thin that just walking grandma's dog. 3 out of 5 stars independent comedy has its moments.......2007-06-06

Independent films are one of the few places left to look for original material, studio Hollywood being slavishly devoted to (safer) sequels. That being said, this particular low-budget piece borrowed much of its premise from the mainstream "Down and Out in Beverly Hills."

From the outset, you have to suspend disbelief a little to swallow the idea that young, good looking, intelligent, and well-dressed Will Stewart can't get a job and is so down on his luck as to be reduced to panhandling. Additionally, it seems the part was written for a black character, since all of Stewart's friends are black. But if you can get past that, the movie is very well acted and compulsively watchable. It ends with a whimper rather than a bang, but that is because the filmmakers seemed to want to hang on to realism rather than embrace the fantasy trajectory of the movie.
