5 out of 5 stars I love this show!!.......2007-09-11

In my opinion The Office is one of the funniest shows that has ever been on television.. this season was the best so far but, every episode of all 3 seasons has made me laugh, which no other show has done, i cant wait for season 4 to start on the 27th!

5 out of 5 stars the OFFICE is OFFICESOME!!.......2007-09-11

The Office is this awesome show about some cool, hip, good-looking people--Jim, Pam and Karen--who stick it to less attractive, socially awkward nerds. I LOVE watching this show because I know that Jim (who's superawesome and funny and goodloking like me) is going to mock everyone because HE'S COOLER!!! He even SLAPS DWIGHT IN THE FACE UNPROVOKED at one point and I'm like "oh hells yeah, aweseom!" Cause some people think I'm a jerk for belting on nerds but just look at THE OFFICE: Nerds deserve to be made to feel small. Not being cool IS A CRIME and jim halpert is like JUDGE DREDGE of a little state called PENNSYLVANIA--ever heard of it?

Besides nerds getting their comeuppance, the other great thing about the office is CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP!!! A billion years ago it was uncool to take corporate sponsorships. Take a hike, GRAMPS, time for THE OFFICE to get paid. Corporations like HP and Microsoft and Staples are giant rich SUCCESSFUL corporations. GUess what else is rich and successful? Me!!! So no suprise Microsoft and I both support the Office.

Plus, corporate sponsorship means MORE REALISM!!! In real life people don't say "Let's go to Office Supply Store X"--nope, they say Staples or whatever. Ok, in the real world people might talk crap about Staples or Hooters or CHili's and obviously you can't do that to the people giving your show millions of dollars. But so what? Once you get big enough and powerful enough, IT'S ALL BUT AGAINST THE LAW TO CRITICIZE THEM IN PUBLIC!!! I'd like to be that big and rich some day. Sure the office is unrealistic in some ways like, I dunno, an office of 20 middle-aged people and only one of them (Stanley) is married. Or neither Dwight nor Jim having ever been to a strip club.

But are family dynamics and sexual desire the integral components of reality? Hell no! THE UNCRITICAL USE OF BRAND NAMES is what makes reality so sprite-drinking-inducingly REAL!! Guess what? This second of reality is brought to by Coca-Cola, BENEVOLENT CORPORATE OVERLORD!!

So if you like beating up nerds, REAL REALISM and big corporations, the office is for you and me!

5 out of 5 stars Television Perfection!!.......2007-09-10

As I each watched each episode last season, I was in constant awe that a television series could maintain this amazing level of excellence. My wife and son knew to avoid me when I was watching "The Office" since I would laugh hysterically and actually feel my stomach hurt. Each episode added another piece to the puzzle and really did a number on fleshing out secondary characters (Jan, Kelly, Angela, etc.). Even more amazing is the fact that the actors who play Ryan and Kelly wrote and directed some of this season. When the season ended, I was so excited to get all episodes in one place, I began counting down the days to September. With the Ryan angle set up during the last 10 seconds of the season, I am waiting anxiously for Season 4. We should all rejoice that a show of this high quality is on right now for us to enjoy!!!!! Hallelujah!

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best-Ever!.......2007-09-10

This is an excellent DVD set for a number of reasons.

First, is just the quality of the show. I think this show will go down in TV history as one of the best. I watched them as aired on the network and the episodes were just as funny and entertaining the second time around. Also, there were quite a few things that I missed the first time around.

The extras are great, especially the deleted scenes. Most episodes are around 20 minutes and each show has 5-10 minutes of deleted scenes, all new and as funny as what was aired.

This is what a DVD set of a TV show should be and I give my highest recommendation-worth every penny!

5 out of 5 stars The Office - The Most Compelling Show Not Yet Cancelled.......2007-09-10

Not too long ago, Arrested Development had me laughing hysterically, dropping my jaw in shock, and then laughing even more hysterically every episode. Until, of course, it got canned.

I went through all 5 stages of grief. Denial: another network will pick it up! Anger: why this show? WHY? It is so funny! Bargaining: Cancel my other favorite shows, I don't care, just don't take this one! Depression: A show this funny will never come again! NEVER! *Cries*

It wasn't until I saw The Office, specifically season 3, that I finally reached stage 5 with acceptance. This show is not only as hilarious and shocking as Arrested Development, it actually has a sweet sprinkle of heart that Arrested Development never really had.

The Pam/Jim struggle has always been compelling, and season 2 left off with a frustrating cliff hanger. But this time, the romance is switched from Jim chasing Pam to Pam chasing Jim. It's truly compelling TV, watching Pam try to win Jim back, while trying to break into the art scene, all while keeping the whole Office family together.

While Michael and Dwight may provide the most laughs, Pam is who made me watch all of season 3 in just one weekend. I just had to see what she was going to do; whether she would give up and be back with Roy again, or if she would have the courage to stand up and fight for what she really wants.

Season 1 was good, Season 2, despite the frustrating cliff hanger, was great. Season 3? Fantastic. And this particular cliff hanger has to be the sweetest in television history. You'll see what I mean.

There's also several other surprises in store. I won't ruin them for you. Must watch TV, my highest recommendations!

There is only one word that comes close to accurately describing the enchanting Mary Poppins, and that term was coined by the movie itself: supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Even at 2 hours and 20 minutes, Disney's pioneering mixture of live action and animation (based on the books by P.L. Travers) still holds kids spellbound. Julie Andrews won an Oscar as the world's most magically idealized nanny ("practically perfect in every way," and complete with lighter-than-air umbrella), and Dick Van Dyke is her clownishly charming beau, Bert the chimney sweep. The songs are also terrific, ranging from bright and cheery ("A Spoonful of Sugar") to dark and cheery (the Oscar-winning "Chim Chim Cher-ee") to touchingly melancholy ("Feed the Birds"). Many consider Mary Poppins to be the crowning achievement of Walt Disney's career--and it was the only one of his features to be nominated for a best picture Academy Award until Beauty and the Beast in 1991. --Jim Emerson

Awesome buy it today. You can't go wrong. It is more suited for 8 plus year olds. Enjoy the music is awesome and there is still taught manners and respect which is hard to find these days in children's viedoes.

Delivery was super fast. I think I had the DVD within 3 days of e-mailing the order. It will be a film that we will share with our grandchildren.

5 out of 5 stars Its Disneys best...and it takes you to Disneyland everytime you watch it..........2007-07-19

This movie is also a classic great for the entire family. It can change an Adult into a kid and make a kid into a great Adult. It places values on family that lack in the upbringing in moral fiber these days and teaches values that a nanny rarely teaches our current children of today with the exception of hola due to parents working there children's lives away in pursuit of money and Capitalism. So please sit down with your own family and cherish feeding the birds or going to fly a kite or spending time with them before time spends you.

5 out of 5 stars Mary Poppins Anniversary DVD.......2007-07-13

Excellent quality. I also own a video tape of this movie and the clarity of the DVD is remarkable in comparison. Special features are fun too. I ordered it because my granddaughter loves this movie so much she has practically worn out the tape. It is a fun movie and I am enjoying it again as much as I did when my daughter was young.

From the moment that Prince Eric's ship emerged from the fog in the opening credits it was apparent that Disney had somehow, suddenly recaptured that "magic" that had been dormant for thirty years. In the tale of a headstrong young mermaid who yearns to "spend a day, warm on the sand," Ariel trades her voice to Ursula, the Sea Witch (classically voiced by Pat Carroll), for a pair of legs. Ariel can only succeed if she receives true love's kiss in a few day's time and she needs all the help she can from a singing crab named Sebastian, a loudmouth seagull, and a flounder. The lyrics and music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are top form: witty and relevant, and they advance the story (go on, hum a few bars of "Under the Sea"). Mermaid put animation back on the studio's "to do" list and was responsible for ushering Beauty and the Beast to theaters. A modern Disney classic. --Keith Simanton

1 out of 5 stars Terrible movie - don't waste your money or your time.......2007-09-03

Our family enjoys many Disney movies (Mulan, Peter Pan, Fox & the Hound, Robin Hood, Sword in the Stone, etc.), but Little Mermaid is terrible! I can't believe this plot was developed anytime after 1950. 16-year-old mermaid "falls in love" with prince after seeing him once (never actually speaks with him), gives up everything (family/talent/etc.) to see him again. If you are looking for a strong female role model, watch Mulan - it is amazing. If you are looking for a girl-gets-prince movie, watch Cinderella - it is a classic.

5 out of 5 stars The Little Mermaid.......2007-08-24

Disney never seems to let us down with the classics. Great movie and songs.

5 out of 5 stars How can anyone not like this?.......2007-08-23

This is an all-time classic. I dont know anybody who hasnt seen it. Its a magical, beautiful film that you can watch over and over. And who doesnt know the words to every song? It doesn't get any better than this.

5 out of 5 stars The Little Mermaid.......2007-08-21

Like all the other "Disney Princess" movies, The Little Mermaid is great. The DVD came with all kinds of cool bonus features. Some people have said that the restoration was good, and if that is your case: get a new tv, i had no problems with it whatsoever, the work they did was incredible.

5 out of 5 stars Cheated. I Got The Region 3 DVD. Only 1 Disc. "Jumping Jellyfish.".......2007-08-18

Walt Disney's classic under-the-sea coming-of-age film "The Little Mermaid" (loosely based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen) gets the 2-Disc Special Platinum Edition DVD treatment.

When I ordered this movie, I specifically ordered the 2-Disc edition, but I recieved the wrong one. I got stuck with the Region 3 DVD, which has only 1 disc and only several special features. As Sebastian would say,
"Jumping jellyfish." I was very disappointed.

On to the movie itself, however. The film is a classic, with songs by the Academy-Award winning team Alan Menken and Howard Ashman (who would go on to score "Beauty And The Beast," my all-time favourite movie) and wonderful characters (Ariel, Flounder, Sebastian and Scuttle, among others), the movie is a timeless classic your little girl will treasure forever. Rated G.

During the 1980s, one cartoon series ruled the airwaves... The Transformers. This paragon of consumerism was created with a dual purpose--to entertain and to galvanize children to buy the toys. Somewhere along the line, the show became a cult favorite, so in 1986 they fashioned an epic tale of good versus evil specifically for the big screen. The result looked vaguely like an animated remake of Star Wars. Who are the Transformers? The good guys are the Autobots: Optimus Prime, SoundWave, Jazz, Ultra Magnus, and many more. Their mortal enemies are the evil Decepticons, led by Megatron and StarScream. The Autobots must save their home planet from an evil entity known as Unicron (voiced by Orson Welles). At the same time, they must defend themselves from an all-out attack from the Decepticons. Along the way, lives are lost, battles are fought, and a new Autobot leader is born as another dies. The story and action never stop in a thrilling ride that often makes you forget that you're watching an '80s cartoon with inferior graphics. The violence will also come as a mild shock to those who haven't seen this film for a while--definitely a movie for the 8 and over audience. For those who grew up on this series, this is a movie that must be watched. Unlike cartoon serials before and after, The Transformers relied on solid stories and interesting characters, a manifesto the film itself upholds with gusto and grace while also being morally responsible. Don't underestimate this movie; there is definitely more to it than meets the eye. --Jeremy Storey

5 out of 5 stars extreme transformation.......2007-09-16

Wow. This new 20th edition of Transformers: The Movie is nothing short of awesome. You have a newly remastered movie(IN WIDESCREEN), tons of extras like commentaries, original commercials in both america and japan, and also you get to see the "lost" episode that was never aired in america. It was the last episode right before the movie(which tied the series to the movie a lot better). This is definitely the best edition of the movie to have come out so far, especially for hardcore fans. Be sure to also look for the newly released soundtrack which has four new tracks of more original score. This is the pinnical of one of the best 80's animation series ever.

5 out of 5 stars original transformers movie.......2007-09-13

The movie is excellent, the visuals and audio have all been updated to todays standards. The movie brought back memories from the 1980's. Any one that used to watch the original (G1) transformers should buy this. I also believe that new audiences will also find this a pleasure. The action is great and so is the plot.

4 out of 5 stars Beware if this video is for a child.......2007-09-11

I bought this DVD for my son because he absolutely loves Transformers. There are some things you should know before you buy it for your child. Optimus Prime dies. My son cried. He was crushed. I had never seen the movie so it was a bit of a shock. I spent my weekend explaining death.
As a mom, I think it is violent, but at least there is no blood. I think they blow up when killed. I did notice they said the four letter "S" word and "damn it". This is a heads up if you were buying it for a child. Over all it is a great movie, just think twice if your child is young.

5 out of 5 stars Took me back to my childhood.......2007-09-08

If you are a true Transformers fan, you will appreciate the movie, commentary and extras that were included in the DVD. This is truly a prize for Transformers fans of all ages!

5 out of 5 stars Still good after all of these years........2007-09-05

The DVD version of this movie was great. The color and sound was better than in the VHS version. I took my boys to see this movie when it first came out. As a story, it has stood the test of time.

When you consider that old-fashioned tearjerkers are an endangered species in Hollywood, a movie like The Notebook can be embraced without apology. Yes, it's syrupy sweet and clogged with clichés, and one can only marvel at the irony of Nick Cassavetes directing a weeper that his late father John--whose own films were devoid of saccharine sentiment--would have sneered at. Still, this touchingly impassioned and great-looking adaptation of the popular Nicholas Sparks novel has much to recommend, including appealing young costars (Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) and appealing old costars (James Garner and Gena Rowlands, the director's mother) playing the same loving couple in (respectively) early 1940s and present-day North Carolina. He was poor, she was rich, and you can guess the rest; decades later, he's unabashedly devoted, and she's drifting into the memory-loss of senile dementia. How their love endured is the story preserved in the titular notebook that he reads to her in their twilight years. The movie's open to ridicule, but as a delicate tearjerker it works just fine. Message in a Bottle and A Walk to Remember were also based on Sparks novels, suggesting a triple-feature that hopeless romantics will cherish. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars SAME OLD STORY NEVER TOLD SO WELL!.......2007-09-12

This sweet little love story rises above all it's cliches because of the likable stars and story that moves along briskly. The love story in sad enough, but the Alzheimer's angle really tears your heart out! I watched this because my wife wanted to watch it on our anniversary. I was surprised how much I liked it.....so guys don't squirm too much if your babe wants to watch this one, it's a good story and I admired Gosling's tenacity and devotion to his true love. One of the better romances I've seen in a while, so I rate it 4 stars, but it's definitely a 5 tissue movie! This was mostly because of the Alzheimer's part of the film, it's a tragic disease and having dealt with it in my family it was a little too close to home. The DVD transfer looks very good and the are some interesting extras.

5 out of 5 stars BEST.LOVESTORY.EVER. Ryan Gosling is AMAZING!.......2007-08-31

I fell in love with not only this beautiful story but Ryan Gosling!!!! This is just a fantastic movie and I really can't find better words to describe it. Watch it. Own it. Love it forever!! It is my all-time favorite!!

4 out of 5 stars I'm still a sucker.......2007-08-27

...for these tear jerkers. This movie will go down as a romance classic- a forbidden love about two people from the wrong side of the tracks-Romeo and Juliet for the 1940's, if you will. This film hits all my cheesy love spots and turn up aces with me. McAdams/Goslin were great as well as Garner and Rowland. This is a must see for all Chick movie lovers. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars ~Have a box of tissue handy~.......2007-08-08

Although I'm not going to give away any spoilers ... this is a love story like no others. I think that everyone can relate on some level to this movie. You will fall in love with this couple & become drawn in to their story. I recommended this to my mother who after the movie called up crying her eyes out. Even my husband enjoyed this movie. If your looking for a movie that will make you laugh, cry & touch your heart ... this is a must-see.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Tale Well Told.......2007-07-25

If you haven't read the book, the movie will not leave you feeling short changed.

A marvellous story about lovers, life and loss.

Highly recommended.

If you're interested, once you watch the movie, read the book The Wedding - it is the follow up from The Notebook.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting if confused film.......2007-08-30

As others have said, this is a love-it or hate-it affair pretty much from "go." The plot of the film is confusing, the third act quite ludicrous, and the portrayl of leather gays coming quite close to homophobia. That said, the film is a major Hollywood production dealing with a minority subculture (leather) with a great actor in the lead. The music & sound design are quite good and cinematography is excellent. Seeing the film decades removed from the scandal, what strikes one most about the film is its ambiance, something Friedkin is a master at. An important if over-heated and under-though film.

5 out of 5 stars See Greenwich Village.......2007-08-03

I have it on VHS and have been waiting for the DVD for years. The cop in the movie with the black hair taking the two drag queens into his police car was my neighbor. He fell and hit his head and bled to death in real life. He lived across the hallway from me when I lived in NY. This is a must-see movie for the younger gay audience to see how packed the village used to be and how it looked. The hotel room they set up is over a bar that was called the Anvil. I found the movie quite good as far as realistic bars and scenes. For us a bit older it's nice to see how the good old days were. The murder scene is horrific.

2 out of 5 stars Not that controversial.......2007-07-17

I think the controversy was alot of hype. I thought so when I saw it back in 1980. Visually its very well done, but unfortunately in makes no sence.

However, it has an absolutely killer soundtrack. If you can get your hands on it (and it isn't easy) by all means do. Willie DeVille, the Germs, The Cripples, Muttiny, Rough Trade, Madelyn Von Ritz, John Hyatt (before he got all down-home and nice). Down and dirty gritty punk heaven. Definitely at the top of my list of favorite albums.

4 out of 5 stars Long overdue release of a controversial thriller.......2007-06-22

This review is about the actual features contained on the Deluxe Edition that is due for release in September 2007. This marks the long overdue release of this controversial film on DVD, and it is good to see that there shall be plenty of extra features, since I have been arguing with other people about the meaning of this film's ending since its release in 1980. Cruising stars Al Pacino as a cop who infiltrates the homosexual S&M night life scene in order to solve a murder. Unable to just leave his work at the office in this case, the experience begins to affect his whole life - his outlook, his relationship with his girlfriend, everything. This is one of those love-it-or-hate-it movies. Few people come out on the fence on this one. It is a shocking dark film any way you approach it, but it is also just about the first major motion picture to portray homosexual men as strong masculine types, not just as the effeminite stereotypes that had been characteristic of the role since the birth of motion pictures. The soundtrack for this film has been remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1 and includes the following extra features:

Commentary by Director William Friedkin

2 New Featurettes: "The History of Cruising" and "Exorcising Cruising"

Original Theatrical trailer

Languages: English & Spanish

Subtitles: English, French, and Spanish (feature film only)

Director William Friedkin has personally supervised the creation of an all new high-definition master and new 5.1 Dolby Digital audio track for the release with the new director's commentary. Eminent documentarian Laurent Bouzerou is the creator of the included featurettes which contain interviews with actors and filmmakers who provide thorough perspective on the incidents surrounding the production. In addition to Friedkin and producer Jerry Weintraub, participants include editor Bud Smith, actors Don Scardino (Ted Bailey) and James Remar (Gregory), and real-life cops Randy Jurgensen (Det. Lefransky) and Sonny Grosso (Det. Blasio). The bad news is that the 40 minutes of deleted scenes that were removed from Cruising 26 years ago at the behest of the MPAA have not been restored in this release. The information on these special features is from a press release from Warner Home Video.

4 out of 5 stars Perception.......2007-05-25

"Cruising"

Perception

Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride

It is hard to believe that William Friedkin's "Cruising" is already 27 years old. What is amazing is that it has not been released on DVD but rumor has it that it will be soon. Friedkin
has recut it and is showing it again at this year's Cannes Film Festival so I suppose that is a sign that its release is imminent.
When "Cruising" came out it created quite a furor because of the way it depicted gay men as "they are". People saw masculine men dancing and kissing and participating in S&M activities and this was something that many had never seen before. The movie violated the picture people had of gay men as being effeminate and weak. The movie broke ground by showing that gay men, in particular the leather subculture, are real people and have some influence. The movie also showed the interiors of gay bars and the activity there as it was.
This is a brutal film and definitely affects the viewer as it combines murder, mystery, sex and subculture. Viewed today it still shocks and many still consider it to be homophobic by depicting gay men as being sexually obsessed whereas those many of the men who are members of the leather scene claim that it is accurate. It is important to remember that the movie was made before AIDS when sexual excess was extremely popular.
I do not think that people were fair to the movie--it is not a look at gay culture as a whole--it uses the leather scene to show how one man's life is affected by his work. Al Pacino as a cop investigating a murder gives an outstanding performance.
William Friedkin is known for making mysterious, dark films and he has done himself proud with this film. The controversy around it brought about a dialog which led to a better understanding of the gay community and if had done nothing else, that would have been enough. But "Cruising" is also a good movie even with all of the controversy.
This is not an easy film to watch. The characters are not the kind of people that we like and for some reason the film seems incomplete. I have heard that 40 minutes of film were cut due
to censorship problems but some of that is being restored to the film with the new cut. This should clarify any ambiguity of the film. What the film really seems to be about is the thin lie between good and evil.
"Cruising" is more than a movie--it is an experience and a provocative one at that. It has no soul and it is dark and physical. It is a riveting ad dark look at something many know nothing about. It is a sexual thriller in which Steve Burns (Al Pacino) is sent undercover into the gay community to find a serial killer who stalks the leather bars. The grittiness of the film reflects the scenes it pictures. This is not a gay film--it is a horror film, a very tense thriller with remarkable performances. It is also important as it pushed the door wide open for others to come in and take up filming the gay community. The plot may ramble but then so does life---like the movie, life is all over the place.

This epic 10-hour miniseries from the Emmy-winning writer of Gulliver's Travels was a ratings bust on television, but on video and DVD, where it can be enjoyed at one's leisure, it has a better chance to cast its magical spell. Kimberly Williams has never been more enchanting than as Virginia, a waitress who still lives with her janitor father (John Larroquette) and yearns for something exciting to happen to her. Her wish comes true when she and her father are transported from New York City into a dimension that, with apologies to Rod Serling, can only be called the Fairy Tale Zone; nine kingdoms populated by characters from fairy tales of yore. They team up with a dog who's really a prince--Wendell, grandson of Snow White--changed into canine form by the evil Queen (Dianne Wiest), who plots to usurp Wendell's throne. Father, daughter, and his royal dogness are relentlessly pursued through the nine kingdoms by the Troll King (Ed O'Neill) and his three bumbling and horrible children, and the conflicted Wolf (Scott Cohen), who is allied with the Queen but, with the aid of some Oprah-esque self-help books, tames his inner beast and falls in love with Virginia. The 10th Kingdom is a special effects extravaganza. There is indeed, as one character marvels, magic to behold here. But despite the Hallmark brand name and the presence of a grown-up Snow White (Camryn Manheim) and Cinderella (Ann-Margret), bewitched animals, magic mirrors, and trolls, this is not kid's stuff. It can get scary, surprisingly violent, and quite intense; you know, just like real fairy tales. --Donald Liebenson

5 out of 5 stars Great movie.......2007-08-23

This is a great movie, I received it promptly and in perfect condition, I recommed this to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars The most beautiful mini-series .......2007-08-11

This is the most beautiful mini-series you're liable to see. A modern woman from contemporary New York City still living with her father ends up on an adventure beyond her imagining when a gateway between her world and the strange and surreal world of the 9 kingdoms is opened. The 9 kingdoms is an alternate reality where the fairy tales are strangely true and wolves (werewolves actually) do seduce young women, princes are put under wicked spells and dark, deep secrets are hidden behind the villainous wicked queen. (I won't spoil it for you.)

One character I love in particular in this is the neurotic Wolf. Wolf is a half-wolf (werewolf) and apparently a descendant of The Big Bad Wolf. Wolf becomes the love interest in the story.

There are some amazing acting talents in this mini-series including Diane Weist in her very first villain role. It's shocking to see her out of the sugary sweet motherly role we're used to such as her role as Peg in Edward Scissorhands and the mother role in Lost Boys.

Another thing I like is the beautiful yet full figured woman who played Snow White- the actress from the practice. The writers paid close attention to detail in remembering that the original Snow White story's protagonist was fair and plump and they didn't follow the modern trend of the sickly-thin conception of beauty.

The fairy tales return to their roots with this mature- yet decent enough for people of all ages- fantasy. It's simply beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Something different in a world of copycats........2007-08-10

What I can't believe is how intricate this whole story is. I really shows a lot of different story lines, characters and twists and turns along the way. It is inventive and enjoyable. I have watched bits and pieces since the first time I watched the entire thing at once. Everytime I watch, I see something I didn't see before.

Scott Cohen as "Wolf" is totally amazing. He is the perfect lead male in a twisted fairytale. He is charming, sexy, daring, and yet flawed in a number of ways. John Larroquette is great as "Tony" and he has the comic timing down pat. Kimberly Williams holds it all together while being brave and vulnerable all at once.

My kids are 10 & 7 and they love it. My Mom is in her 60's and she loves it so it appeals to many age groups.

If you can't handle fantasy, don't watch. If you are sick of the same old formulas, then give it a try for something new.

5 out of 5 stars Comes the Kingdom!.......2007-08-05

This is a delight for anyone who enjoys fantasy and folk lore. In a modern age it is so delightful to find the old stories coming to life!

5 out of 5 stars Addictive Movie.......2007-08-01

This is a very addicting movie! You just can't stop watching. My Aunt had this movie when we went to visit her and we promptly came home and ordered it, my Aunt then watched with me and I had to order it for her too, and she is a teacher. She brought this to class for thier "free Friday's" and now her class has seen it several times. This is a light hearted fantasy type movie. I reccomend it for all ages!

Like its fellow HBO series Sex and the City, this half-hour comedy broke some TV rules and went from critics' darling to an award-winning series in three years. Curb Your Enthusiasm is the brainchild of star-creator Larry David who co-created Seinfeld and was the basis for the easily rattled George Costanza (who was played by Jason Alexander). Like George, David has a tendency to speak too much, blow things out of proportion, and, most often, fail in the end (and often liking it that way). David's new show is also like its predecessor: it's about "nothing" except following the day-to-day ramblings of a sometime writer and comic (this time in L.A.). Eternal questions stemming from universal daily dilemmas are honed to perfect comedic absurdity. A notable exception is the show is only scripted by plot; much of the action is improvised. The first season starts with a one-hour mockumentary following David's return to stand-up for the first time in years; the other 10 episodes follow a more traditional sit-com setup.

David plays "himself" (as does his friend, Richard Lewis) although his manager and wife are played by comedians Jeff Garlin and Cheryl Hines. Although this first season is a comedic gem, one can't take more than an episode or two at a time--it's acidic, biting comedy. The episodes are often built like a house of cards, which the irritable David will surely collapse by the end. Like another caustic TV character, Dabney Colman's Buffalo Bill (1983-84), Larry David is not for everybody. --Doug Thomas

5 out of 5 stars Larry David - exposed.......2007-08-23

If you don't have HBO, you'll appreciate this way of getting an inside look at Seinfeld's co-creator. Poor Larry innocently gets himself into situations that are almost painful to watch -- yet we can sense the folly in our own lives. Genius at work.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-07-28

I'm glad I only got the first disk from Netflix rather than buying the whole season!

My husband and I loved Seinfeld. It was a show about nothing, without really trying. CYE appears to be a show about nothing, but it is trying too hard. Bizarre, since Seinfeld was scripted and CYE isn't, but that's exactly how we felt.

The acting was just painful. People trying to be funny with absurd situations, but going way out of their way to do so. We tried watching the first three episodes and each time ended up looking at each other and saying "this sucks!"

I can see easily the whole Larry David/Seinfeld thing. This show just doesn't do it for me the way Seinfeld. did.

4 out of 5 stars Destined to be a comedy classic - over priced though........2007-07-23

I JUST discovered this show -- a latecomer -- and was addicted.
You can definately see the lineage of CYE from Seinfeld...except that it goes to places that network TV would not have allowed. Although it is filmed in a very casual, almost documentary way and the acting is very spontaneous and ad libbed, the stories themselves and the editing is very well crafted. Clearly destined to be a comedy classic.

My only quibble is the excessive cost of the DVDs. They are being sold at the equivalent of a full priced DVD (about 2o bucks) per disc. Given that they are 10 half hour episodes, they could have easily fit on ONE double sided DVDs to control cost.

I guess the benefit of r-rated themes and swearing commands a higher price in the marketplace.

5 out of 5 stars Larry David rules!.......2007-07-16

Larry David is one hilarious man! I loved Seinfeld and I love the CYE series. Cheryl, Jeff and Suzie are great in their roles, just like the gang of Seinfeld were in theirs. I can't get enough Larry- I'm obsessed!

5 out of 5 stars One of the funniest sitcoms ever produced!.......2007-07-11

I was very late getting to CYE, probably due to the odd scheduling that some shows get in the UK. However, I'm sort of pleased about that because it meant I had five full series of the show to catch up with all at once.

Understandably, people have made comparisons of CYE and Seinfeld, which Larry David had a major hand in. However, in my opinion it's much better than Seinfeld. Fans of The Office will easily take to CYE, (and will be able to see where Ricky Gervais stole some of his ideas from!).

It's not a show for minors due to some of the language as well as some of the situations and themes, which are not particularly suitable for kids. However I think that this is one of the rare occasions where adult themes and strong language work well in a TV show and somewhat surprisingly, demonstrates how frequent swearing can be made to be very funny indeed! The appearance of Susie Essman is always a delight purely because you know that at some point the antics of Larry or her husband will cause her to launch into a foul-mouthed tirade - fantastic stuff!!

I'm quite a discerning fan of situation comedy and it is not often that a show will make me laugh out loud, which CYE has done on many occasions. CYE is to be thoroughly recommended and I'm very much looking forward to the sixth series coming to DVD.

Imaginatively rendered but slightly chilly, this 1951 Disney adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic is also appropriately surreal. Alice (voiced by Kathryn Beaumont) has all the anticipated experiences: shrinking and growing, meeting the White Rabbit, having tea with the Mad Hatter, etc. Characterization is very strong, and the Disney team worked hard to bring screen personality to Carroll's eccentric creations. For a Disney film, however, it seems more the self-satisfied sum of its inventiveness than a truly engaging experience. --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars Very cute, a little weird and quite enjoyable.......2007-08-23

There are some parts I love and some parts that seem to drag for me, but overall, this is a very cool Disney movie with a different feel. I cant quite put my finger on it but it almost doesnt feel like Disney. It has a wicked undertone which I actually love. But then again, the man who wrote the book supposedly wasn't 'all there' when he wrote it so that could explain it.

5 out of 5 stars enduring entertainment.......2007-05-17

Alice in Wonderland includes story lines from Through the Looking Glass so I had my class read both books before showing the movie. The tale was written as a summer diversion for a precocious child and, done as a musical cartoon, provides a willing suspension of disbelief. I also teach Spanish and played a segment in Spanish for those classes. The dialogue was beyond my second year students who soon lost interest.

Jim Carrey as a schizophrenic murderer isn't convincing, in this melodramatic film about a man obsessed by the Number 23. Joel Schumacher (Batman Forever, St. Elmo's Fire) has unintentionally managed to make a comedy of horrors that really is quite humorous in parts. Walter Sparrow (Carrey) becomes engrossed in a homespun novel about Detective Fingerling, whose life degrades into mayhem because of his obsession with 23's esoteric numerical puzzles. Sparrow's preoccupation with the book follows his botched attempt to catch a nasty dog that bites him, leading one to believe that Sparrow's contraction of rabies might be the cause for his mental degradation. As the story progresses, Sparrow retreats further into Fingerling's world, rife with suicidal sexpots and hardboiled detective sleuthing. His wife, Agatha (Virginia Madsen), also plays Fingerling's girlfriend, sex-crazed Fabrizia, who taunts Fingerling until he stabs her. Back in reality, Walter aims to solve the unresolved crimes in the book, taking it as a murderer's diary rather than as an imagined work. The story is half-baked, though Carrey's portrayal of a mentally disturbed person is what makes The Number 23 comedic. Long, contemplative stares, and over-dramatized acting renders Sparrow a clichéd character, rather than one odd enough to engage viewers. For a better version of almost the exact plot but with a terrorist's twist, see Thr3e instead. --Trinie Dalton

5 out of 5 stars Great movie, it will keep you interested.......2007-09-16

More so then none, The Number 23 is a psychological thriller. I'm not normally into these types of movies, but this one kept my attention throughout the entire movie. Jim Carrey did an awesome job in the movie. If your into these types of movies, get this one - it will definitely keep your attention.

5 out of 5 stars Intriguing Story.......2007-09-12

I found this to be a very intriguing and entertaining movie, and I think Jim Carrey did very well in the role, despite the fact that it was such a departure from what he normally does. Generally speaking, I think that this movie would appeal to many booklovers. I saw The Number 23 in the theater and have since gladly added it to my DVD collection.

2 out of 5 stars A slow start to a boring film...(How bizarre! The letters to the title of my review add up to 23!!).......2007-09-08

Unfortunately once again the modern era of complicated movies with twisted endings delivers another disappointing film. I was really geared up for this one when I saw the trailer but this film nearly lost me at the 45 minute mark. I'm glad in a way I decided to stick it out to the end because the film does get a little more interesting from the half way mark to the end, but it's a shame we have to sit through the first 45 minutes to get there. Of course this film does appeal to a certain genre of people out there who do have a fascination with the number 23, Jim Carrey being one of them in real life from when he was a younger man. I think it's only those people who will really benefit from this film.

4 out of 5 stars edge of your seat.......2007-09-06

Great movie--kind you can't miss a second of or you get lost with the plot. I thought Jim Carey did a fine job acting--I like him better to tell the truth when he is not doing comedy. A thinkers movie---but the kind that doesn't leave you hanging in the ending--it gives you an ending.

1 out of 5 stars Thankfully I only rented it..........2007-09-04

Having missed this film in the theaters, I rented it hoping it would be another "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". However, what I found was quite different....a great idea for a movie that is simply poorly executed.

I wouldn't say the film is necessarily predictable, but it certainly wasn't engaging. Granted, I'm not much of a Jim Carrey fan, but to his credit, he has pulled off some great acting roles in "The Truman Show" and the aforementioned "Spotless Mind". Through most of the film, Mr. Carrey's acting was simply hollow - there was no real passion. In other parts, I felt he was over acting, perhaps to drive the plot. At no point in the film did I buy into the story, despite having such a strong cast and director, and at no point did I feel one way or the other about any of the characters....The ending felt rushed, and was somewhat unfulfilling...basically it felt as though the movie consisted of empty calories...cheese whiz for the big screen.

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't recommend this film for even a rental.
