Fresh Air from Space.......2007-03-18
Bill "Spaceman" Lee was a left-handed pitcher for the Red Sox and Expos from 1969 to 1982. He won 17 games 3 consecutive years, made the All Star game once and would have won 2 games in the classic 75 World Series (burying the Curse of the Bambino before it was invented) if the bullpen had not let him down.
Lee is better known for being one of the great characters in a game that has no more Yogi Berras, Casey Stengals or Spacemen. Some fans may take issue with his progressive politics but few can debate his continuing love for the game as he journeys from Canada to Cuba to play baseball into his late fifties. This is a unique guy who once ran for President of the United States with Hunter S. Thompson as his VP candidate and who had a song written about him by the late Warren Zevon.
I am a huge Lee fan and am not totally objectve. But I think most anyone will find this a great story about a guy with a passion for the game and for life. I would have liked to see more highlights in the film from his major league career but this was made up for by interviews with Luis Tiant, Fred Lynn, Dick Williams and fellow Buffalo Head Bernie Carbo.
Lee is a gracefully aging Baby boomer playing a kids game with a Sixties approach to life and a teenager's passion. He should be declared a National Treasure and a member of an endangered species at the same time.

A fascinating documentary about a very unusual man. Probably the only professional baseball player truly to qualify as an existentialist, and a defiant one at that. Put simply the man loves baseball but hates rules.
Fascinating Film about a Fascinating Character.......2006-09-19
I came across this dvd at a friends house and borrowed it on a whim. It turned out to be REALLY GOOD. Funny, touching and enlightening. I never knew much about Bill "Spaceman" Lee, but he is definitely one of the good guys.
Definitely worth a purchase if you like documentaries or baseball.
Description
Because their planet will be destroyed in 500 years, two goofy-looking aliens land on Earth and commence "Operation Procreation" with a stroll down Hollywood Boulevard. Liking what they see, the two extraterrestrials do what they do best--abduct Earth women for some quick, cheap flying saucer sex! Among the oddball side effects: the women are returned to Earth transformed into sexual dynamos and nine months later, a baby alien is born...

So-so film, GREAT DVD!.......2003-03-10
I am not sure exactly what is expected from people that gave this film a poor review. It is 70's standard sexploitation schlock. No story, no acting, no dialogue. I would tend to think it rare to find ANY soft core 70's film to be much different. Still, the DVD is LOADED with great bonuses. If nothing else, consider it archival footage of the "late night after 11pm on a Friday night at Cinemax" film clip festival. There are some 6 trailers, all replete with nudity, as well as dozens of posters/ephemera of these and many other Harry Novak films that play on the screen while accompanied with audio tracks. The tracks are radio spots for these films, and I would dare anyone to find this stuff anywhere else. Best of all, there are two short films, one of which is VERY racy.
The goofy film gets 3 stars of 5 for the type of film it is. Let's not confuse it with Casablanca or Star Wars or something it should not be stacked against. The DVD itself gets 5 stars+ out of 5. A wonderful surprise to see a DVD so loaded with great stuff since the title itself is so poor.
The worst I have seen!!.......2001-12-19
Do not bother to buy or even rent this one. The girls are not good looking and there is no story. It was a total waste of money!
Wham-Bam-No Thanks!.......2001-10-11
"Wham-Bam-Thank You, Spaceman" was a major disappointment in every respect, except that most of the women in it are really good looking. It must have come out near the end of the nudie-cutie movie craze, because the language and actions are much more graphic than earlier Harry Novak productions. Virtually every other word uttered by the aliens is an expletive. After a while the effect of that is neither funny or shocking but boring. The absolute low point of the movie comes when the aliens watch a woman being attacked. Their idea of helping her is waiting until AFTER she's raped, beaming her on board their spaceship and having sex with her. Then they return her to her attacker and she turns the tables on him by raping him. And this is supposed to be a comedy! In addition to the film, the DVD includes a couple of theatrical shorts. "The Peeper" is fairly tame, but "Daughters Of Darkness" involves a satanic cult of devil worshippers. Unbelievable!
What a hoot!.......2001-06-26
A cross between comedy and softcore porn it's a great movie just to watch and enjoy. Not much thinking went into production and it shows > lots of skin as the "aliens" have things backwards but this B movie has witty alien dialog and attractive women. If you want to turn off your mind and float downstream this is the movie for you!

Combat.......2006-09-24
Spaceman (David Ghilardi) was taken by aliens when he was four. Trained and bread to kill for his masters. It was his misfortune due to the rebellion to get marooned on earth. Here he must learn to adapt with the help of Sue (Deborah King.) Mean time earth authorities want to dissect him. Will his unique skills assist or hinder his adaptation. And will he ever be reunited with his mother?
Well played out and they added plenty of elements from gangsters, to psychologists, to kung fu, to kids making through slitting gesticulations.
Campy, Low-Budget, SF, Kung Fu, Romance, Action Flick To Fall In Love With.......2006-07-15
Trying to convince you (those who choose to read this) that this campy movie is worth every minute of your time will be my toughest job here, as I'm going to say some things that will seem at odds with each other when referring to this film. But I'm going to give it a go anyway and hope that you bear with me for a few moments...
If you watched the TV series Batman (starring Adam West) and thought the BAM! BOOF! and CRASH! pop-ups were cool whenever he and Robin got into fights with the Riddler, the Joker or some other dastardly villain, or if you didn't mind the fact that the early rocket propulsion system of Flash Gordon was accomplished by a fourth of July sparkler, you're the right person to watch SPACEMAN. I'm not saying you need to be a simpleton in order to watch this! Quite the contrary, you just have to be the type of person who's not overly-critical of such things.
SPACEMAN is ...I'm not sure how to put this without sounding ridiculous ...um ...it's the best B-movie, low-budget, science fiction, romance, kung fu/gangster film I've ever seen.
I stumbled upon SPACEMAN when nothing else was on TV. I was looking for something different, something refreshingly out-of-the-ordinary, but I had no idea what I'd clicked onto when I found SPACEMAN. At first glance, I was ready to turn it off. The production value was obviously very low. The filming was grainy or overexposed in places and the costumes were immediately laughable. But I decided to give the story a try. I'm very glad I did.
It's the story that pulls you through and makes this film a definitive triumph. The script is sheer genius and the acting is good.
Spaceman (David Ghilardi) starts out as a four-year-old child who is abducted from his front yard by aliens. Twenty-five years later, Spaceman crash lands back on Earth and finds himself unprepared for a world he barely remembers. His brain has been altered, and he is trained for combat and submission to a "commander". Any commander will do, really. So, in order to make himself feel more comfortable, he finds a job so that he has a commander (a boss). His first job is as a stock boy at a supermarket. But problems quickly arise as Spaceman has to improvise when his commander (boss) isn't around. When he witnesses a shoplifting, he takes matters into his own deadly hands and injures the thief, thus getting himself fired. Spaceman tries other locations for possible employment, including the military, the FBI, and the Mob, but none will have him.
During all of this, there's a love story building between Spaceman and a pretty apartment neighbor named Sue (Deborah King). She's drawn to his physical nature ...even though Spaceman can't procreate without orders from his commander.
Back to the FBI and the Mob ...
The FBI find out about Spaceman and try to capture him and his family and friends, only to find that Spaceman is no one to mess around with. His deadly demeanor ends any conflicts he encounters. Trying for a job as a hit man, Spaceman is even rebuffed by the Mob ...for a while. Sound interesting? It really is.
Give SPACEMAN a try. And trust me, you're going to want to turn it off after the first fifteen minutes. Don't! Watch closely, enjoy the story and be thankful that this campy film isn't trying to be some big blockbuster movie on half a shoestring budget. It never tries to do that. It pays homage to a time when rocket ships didn't have blue screens with CGI and had to tell a story about people; those funny, threatening, flawed, and ridiculous people!
high marks for camp only.......2006-02-25
The production values are not high. The budget obviously wasn't, either. But for pure "campiness" and humor, Spaceman is fun to watch. It probably doesn't belong in everyone's video library, but would be worth renting, if you're into Sci-Fi.
An interesting study in no budget first -time filmmaking.......2005-04-02
The result isn't all that bad, but it did drive the director insane. In his commentary track, he tells all and it's interesting. The film itself suffers from not having the biggest budget, or professional actors, but it still succeeds, just not on a professional level. It's entertaining in a laid back way and quite impressive given the humble origins. This is head and shoulders above other no budget efforts I've seen, not including clerks. Interesting though. Gotta go
Trained to Kill.......2003-08-02
Eugine the Spaceman is the ultimate killing machine, and he is a pretty good cashier too. This movie is about a lost warrior from outerspace that has to fight off the FBI, a group of hitmen, learn to think for himself, and serch for his true identity. I found this movie to be both action-packed and hilarious. I loved the parts where Spaceman riped out a mans vocal cords and threw a couple of forks into another guys eyeballs. Also I loved the pipe fight and kung-fu fight between Spaceman and the Japanese guy. Spaceman will never quit killing!!!

Product Description
Acclaimed Florida novelist and adventurer Randy Wayne White travels to Cuba with former major league pitchers Bill "Spaceman" Lee (Boston Red Sox) and Jon Warden (Detroit Tigers) and a band of baseball enthusiasts on a journey to find and revive a children's baseball league founded by American writer Ernest Hemingway in the days before Fidel Castro came to power.

I like his books so..........2007-06-27
...I figured this might be fun to watch.
It is. I don't know how many times I'll watch it but I'm glad I picked it up.
Randy comes off as a totally down to Earth guy. He gets a little self-serving right at the end but by then it's not a deterant at all. Bill Lee comes off just as you would expect. He's the real deal. MLB needs more players of that caliber who follow their own path in my opinion.
You don't get familiar with any of the other Americans. A few of the Cuban players are spotlighted and I would have liked to see more of them.
I'd recommend watching this if you're a fan of baseball or feel any empathy at all towards the Cuban children that live under Castro's misguided regime.
