While it didn't quite spark a trend in chug-a-lug brew comedies, Beerfest is the kind of zany time-killer that's a lot funnier if you're within reach of a six-pack and Doritos. In other words, this is yet another low-brow laff-a-thon from the Broken Lizard gang (Super Troopers) that's likely to draw a bigger audience on DVD than it did in theaters, especially since there's a lot of duds (and flat suds) to sit through while waiting for the next big beer-belly-laugh. It's the kind of movie that thinks masturbating frogs are funny (OK, you decide), while serving up a gang of guzzling Americans (the aforementioned Broken Lizard troupe, who also write this stuff with director Jay Chandrasekhar) who compete in an epic beer-drinking contest against the nefarious German challenger Baron Wolfgang Von Wolfhausen (played by German actor Jurgen Prochnow, whose starring role in Das Boot inspires one of this movie's better jokes). When it's not trying to top itself in terms of sheer stupidity and juvenile humor, Beerfest satisfies its target audience (basically, frat-rats and party animals) with some gratuitously bare-breasted babes, rampant consumption of alcohol, and the welcomed appearance of Cloris Leachman, who sort-of reprises her "Frau Blucher" persona from Young Frankenstein. So basically what you've got here is a dim-witted but energetic comedy called Beerfest that delivers exactly what you'd expect from a movie with that title. Pretty funny and extremely sly.......2007-09-01
People grousing about this movie need to just get a life. It's really very funny, if you like slapstick, frat humor, and even genuine satire. (I'm a university professor, so I don't only watch comedies like this, but if I like 'em, I love em, to paraphrase Yogi Berra.)
There are references to dozens of movies. "Young Frankenstein" is one, as an astute reviewer noted. But it also skewers every pal picture I can think of, and the creepy night scenes are obviously a very funny parody of Kubrick's completely awful "Eyes Wide Shut." Watch what happens in the background as they approach "Beerfest," which is actually a mix of "Eyes" and about six other films. This is a movie that appears dumb, a la "Animal House," but if you know movies, it's actually really smart satire. The final payoff is drop dead glorious.
Sure, it's closer to Monty Python than Ingmar Bergman (what a jokester!). But like the Pythons (who also used boobie humor and creepy animal jokes, along with exaggerated violence), these guys know their sources and send them up most humorously. Recommended. DO fill the cooler with plenty of brew, but keep your eyes wide open, expecially for the stuff that happens in the background of the scenes leading up to Beerfest. Watch for the movie references throughout. It's sly stuff indeed.
PC this ain't. Thank you, Broken Lizard!
Don't Hate It Because It's Stupid!.......2007-08-09
You will definately feel like you lost a few brain cells after watching this movie. But you know, it really made me laugh. If you ever went to college and participated in any of the following drinking games; quarters, mexican, beer bongs, etc you will think this movie is funny. It's been a long time since I've partied like that, but it all came back to me and I laughed. I think that is the point.
Garbage attempt at comedy, with bad actors added in!.......2007-08-08
So painful trying to force myself through this ruck. The only thing that could have made it better, or worse would have been Will Farrel. Film takes on comical approach at German beer manufacturing and fails at that. Disgusting and though some nice exposed skin is seen, I mean if you are into p0rn then buy it. Sickening is another word, but really this film is just really boring. Anyone that thinks this is a film that deserves high praise also deserves a lobotomy. If you want to dumb yourself down, then watch this. I think I will add Roseanne Barr as a tag for this movie.
Juveniles, please apply.......2007-07-22
This was a Xmas gift for my younger, college-aged son. I have never seen it and do not intend too. My title reflects probably the mentality for this one.
Dumb...Freshman...But, Yet Funny.......2007-07-22
This is one of the most freshman movies ever. But, like any good car wreck, you can't take your eyes off it. It is side-splittingly funny in parts. Is there actually a story here??? Yes, there is...and it is not too terribly bad. Sophmoric humor is too much of a compliment, so I call this one "freshman humor". The gratuitious nudity at the beginning is just dumb, but the rest fits the plot. And in the end, what's not to like...it is about BEER after all...

For light beer, it's okay........2007-05-14
I watched this movie on 1080i, with 5.1 Dolby Pro Logic, and have to say it is an above average comedy. I do think it is very funny, but the blu ray disc capabilities do not shine in this disk. The picture is great, sound is okay, and the extras are limited. Unless you have to see this in it's clearest format, the DVD would suffice.
If you liked Super Troopers..you'll like this.......2007-05-08
I feel I get the full blu-ray experience from Action/Sci-Fi type movies rather than comedy, but I had just gotten my PS3 and was on a Blu-Ray binge when I bought this. I am not disappointed though,
I had not seen the movie and got it cheap, The video quality is good and as I said if you liked Super Troopers, you'll like this.
Broken Lizard Deliver.......2007-02-27
Who knows what side of the Broken Lizard fence you are on. Some like all of their films. Some liked Super Troopers, but didn't like (or hated) club dread. Then there are those that liked club dread, but didn't like super troopers. Some like them all, some hate all of their films. I for one LOVE Club Dread, and am only mildly impressed with Super Troopers, so know that before i continue my review of Beerfest.
Beerfest is a loveable, lighthearted, and enjoyably random film that absurdly asserts the notion that a very hardcore underground international beer drinking sport is in existance. PShaw!
The cast, as usual, are brilliant. To be smart about explaining it (and as seen in the commentary and suplemental features of this blu-ray) they drew upon their knowledge and experience of their college fraternity's Drinking games to give credence to the films realism and plot. Basically that means exactly what it sounds like it should mean. Its a comedy about drinking absurd amounts of beer. Seeing boobies welcomly flashed before your eyes in a random scene or two in a very lighthearted way, and MANY MANY MANY repeateable quotes.
This Blu-Ray is fantastic, with the usual 1080p and AVC-1 50Gig dual layer treatment. The colors, definition, and detail are vibrant. The sound is amazing. The only real quibble i had with it was the lack of navigable menu's and especially the POP-UP menu, which is hands down a great technological leap forward that blu-ray has that HD DVD doesn't. (besides that coveted extra space per disc)
You, the beer-swilling fan that knows you already want to buy this movie just by looking at this page and reading this review, would be rightly justified by picking up this blu-ray. Not only will it really get lots of play on your ps3 or BD player and make your nice HDTV shine, but you will find yourself playing with little dolls wearing lederhosen, while your professor or boss is trying to teach you something. Remember, "its frustrating...its Fwustrating, its Fwustwating, its frrwwuuuustwaaaaaaaating"
enjoy this flick, and the review. The short and simple answer is that the Broken Lizard team has delivered. very much a recommended addition to your growing Blu-Ray collection!

Beer Tour Envy!.......2007-04-04
This documentary was a great watch for the aspiring homebrewer/microbrewer. It is not a how-to video, nor a complete tour video, but it is a nice view of some of the small American breweries.
We all know the big boys of brewing, now watch this to see the faces and stories behind the little guys who are out to have fun! Overall a good documentary. It does jump around a bit, but overall it left me wanting to see the entire footage they shot.
I would recommend this video!!

DRI-at their prime.......2007-07-02
for all DRI fans that prefer them before the crossover, you must get this...so much more intense and hardcore than the dvd THE RITZ.this shows DRI as the fastest band on earth..it`s incredible (best early footage of any band).one minor setback!!!the crowd is a dont turnout,(disgraceful)
D.R.I.'s early days, don't expect the best of.......2006-05-06
D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) had an early time in the N.Y. Hardcore scene. I think they had the best of himselves when they recorded that strongest gig at The Ritz, but this DVD is only for true fans and becomes a piece of amusement, just to remember those years of Hardcore, slam dance and street fury.
This DVD contains two D.R.I. gigs, one of those is like a practice concert, with a few moshers there and as like as "we are D.R.I. families and friends" but at that time those ending-teens used to make their efforts to gave attention and their horde of fans used to enjoy it, nice times and cool rememberings.
The sound is worst, but for the "home video" tecnologhy and quality at the 80's is just the best way to have some material for eternity, and it comes with an extra video with skating scenes with D.R.I. songs in back.
Two gigs, an extra video and looking for the D.R.I. early days is enought for true fans and collectors, but if you think this material is some like as "Live at The Ritz", forget it, hearing for the last tracks in both gigs "Violent Pacification" with the younger Wretch, Cassidy, Pappe and Griffith in action playing raw, pays this DVD. CONGRATS IMBECILES!!!!

The Best Beer Documentary.......2006-12-27
As a longtime craft brewer, this is the best movie/documentary that I have seen so far. The number of brewery's toured, interviews made and good beer consumed is a fantasy for those of us who brew our own. I will be buying additional copies to share with friends in the business.
American Beer.......2005-09-30
