Clint Eastwood (making his very assured directorial debut) is a poetry-spouting stud-muffin DJ stalked by a maniacally amorous fan after a misguided one-night stand in this enjoyably schlocky, undeniably effective film about good intentions gone murderously wacky. Although many of the very '70s trappings presented here may ultimately be too dated to be taken seriously (including a very self-indulgent jazz number and a hilariously gooey seduction number between Eastwood and Donna Mills), the core premise of infatuation taken out of bounds remains uncomfortably plausible--and was influential enough to be appropriated by one of the biggest hits of the '80s. (Here's a hint--it starred Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, and a very unfortunate bunny rabbit). A well-staged and occasionally very frightening thriller worth watching for Jessica Walter's peerlessly unhinged performance alone. Frequent Eastwood collaborator Don Siegel (director of Dirty Harry, Coogan's Bluff, and The Beguiled, to name but a few) has a nice cameo as Murphy, the mustachioed, chess-playing bartender. --Andrew Wright

This is a classic Clint Eastwood film. It is scary and suspenseful without all of the complex technical additions of today's suspense films. If you like suspense...and Clint Eastwood...get this movie!!!

Play Misty for Me A Good movie for an early 1970's suspense/thriller. By today's vstandards it would be considered "sappy and predictable". Clint Eastwood does a grat job playing a DJ in the early 1970's and Jessica Walter does a great job of playing an obseesed stalker.

Good movie if you want to see Clint Eastwood play something other than a cop or cowboy.

In an age when Hollywood can seem to do nothing original, and the Silver Screen is awash with remakes, it's nice to go back and revisit the artistry of which the film industry has made hash.

A tense psychological thriller, Play Misty for Me is the template from which the likes of Fatal Attraction sprang.

Clint Eastwood plays a terminally cool yet sensitive late night jazz DJ who, while estranged from girlfriend Donna Mills, has a one night stand with Jessica Walter.

As her obsession grows, her violent emotions manifest themselves first against herself in a manipulative suicide attempt, and then against the others in Eastwood's life.

Edgy, hard, and oh, so seventies, the tension ramps smoothly with Walter's character's escalating psychosis until the final scene where bloodied and exhausted, a single punch to the face sends Walter through a french door, and over the edge of a terrace to fall to the cold Pacific below.

Clint Eastwood as actor and director does a good job of making the characters believable and sympathetic. Bravo.

Jim Bob says - Spend the money; it's worth a night in a darkened living room with a bowl of popcorn, wondering whether or not your ex-girlfriend really meant what she said when you dumped her.

An oldie - but a GOODIE!.......2007-02-06

Good "stalker" flick. Forerunner of Basic Instinct. This movie is really
"dated" in terms of dress & hair & music, but it is worth viewing for the performances of the young Clint Eastwood, Jessica Walter and Donna Mills.
This is one of my all-time favorite "rainy afternoon" movies!

I first saw this movie on release as a teenager, and thought it was a great scary movie. The main reason I bought it now was to get a hold of the great Jerry Mulligan soundtrack. The whole family have enjoyed the film now, and leaving out the 70's gear and hairstyles, its a great thriller.

My child has loved this video from 3 months old. I am a work at home mom and this video is a life saver. He loves all the songs and his face just beams when little Jay the Kangaroo comes on. It really makes him happy so I don't feel guilty about leaving him in front of the television.

My 18mo old absolutely loves the mommy and me dvd's that are out. Besides the wiggles, this is the only thing he will watch. Just from watching this dvd he learns how to do certain things such as jumping, shaking hands, and playing peekaboo! More videos like this should be out on the market.

Otra vez como el primer video, las palabras están diferentes en escrito cuando cantan. No hay la opción para aprender las palabras viendo las cuando uno está cantando. No entiendo porque pongan las palabras en un forma del futuro en la canción y otro en escrito, como vamos a cantar y cantaremos. Es como pagaron dos personas diferentes para traducir lo mismo video una para las canciones y otra para lo escrito. Cuando hablan y no están cantando sigue con otra forma de decir todo. En inglés las palabras están igual entonces sería buena para aprender inglés como en forma de karaoke.

For people who think that those who speak Spanish can sing along with the words they are wrong. The Spanish words are all in a different form of future etc. in the subtitles verses the verbal form whether in songs or spoken. It is like they paid two different people to translate the same video. One for the verbal and the other for the lyrics, and then stuck them together without checking that they are the same. Same meaning is different than same words especially if you are trying to sing along. I don't understand why anyone would allow their product to be marketed in this way. In English the words come across in karaoke style with the word they are on highlighted. I assumed that the subtitles would be the same with maybe the option of the highlighted word taken away, which is NOT the case.

My daughter loves both the first Mommy & Me and Mommy & Me More. We can't go through a day without watching one of them. The segments in between are a bit goofy, but the songs are fun and it gets my girl up and moving. When I first tried these on her around 14 months, she could care less, but now at 2 years, she loves them!

Great DVD for Babies.......2007-06-14

I love this DVD for one thing more than anything else...it got my son to saying "mommy":)) He was saying "mama" but after watching this DVD a couple times he started calling me mommy and never stopped. He's almost three now and he still watches this DVD from time to time. He knows all the songs and all the actions and in the car we're able to sing the songs because he has memorized them. It's a break from all the "character" shows out there for kids. This is a Classic!

Great video for interacting with your child.......2007-04-06

I am a working parent of a 2 year old toddler. Unfortunately, many times when I get home I really just want to relax and put my feet up - and not interact with my daughter. This video is fantastic for getting us both in the mood to enjoy each other and have a good time. Most videos for kids are not very interactive and fortunately this one is based on being involved in the activities. The songs are great and well known. My daughter LOVES this video and asks me almost every day to play it in the DVD player. I highly recommend this video for everyone, especially working parents trying to find new ways to have fun with their little ones.

i just watched mommy & me and if you have a baby i strongly recommend you try bright bubs DVDs instead. the bright bubs dvds are made for babies first year. it is a fun lively sessions of singing finger play massaging with mummies and babies . the babies in the dvds are all under one year , and the music is carefully selected and played for this age group. mommy and me songs are a bit noisy for my baby's fine and sensitive hearing
please go to the webiste [...] and read about their approach how to incorporate music in baby's development . most of the songs in the session are really short ( we all know our babies attention span ) , incorporating exercises , vestibular movements , tactile and auditory stimulation while siniging , explaining to you why and how every song can help baby's development.
i just cannot recommend them enough for very young babies . and no they are not similar to the mummy and me dvds

also the bright bubs sessions are done in a house in the living room or in a backyard in a very natural environment , so baby is not too distracted and overstimulated by the too many artificial decoration and drawings like in mommy and me sessions , all baby will see is other babies with their mummies in their house like him singing and dancing , music is soft respectful to baby's refined senses .

i don't mean to say this dvd is not good , but i feel it is too loud and too crowded for babies , maybe it is more suitable for preschoolers .
i just felt sorry for that baby among the group trying to follow up on the wheel on the bus song .the same song could be sang in a more apropriate and respectful way for younger babies senses.

I wish I would have read the comments on this movie before I purchased it. The quality was very poor, the volume, the coughing of the camera person. You could bearly make out what any one was saying. This was a rip off. Shelly

Terrible Quality Product!.......2007-06-21

I was amazed at the terrible quality of this dvd. I had to turn the volume on my tv to 32 just to barely hear what the actors were saying, then the loud laughter of the audience almost burst my eardrums! The quality was so terrible you couldn't even clearly see the actors facial features. Everyone's play can't be a Tyler Perry production, but at least when you buy his plays the quality of his dvd's are good. You can clearly see the actors, you can hear what they are saying and you can watch the dvd at normal volume levels. I will probably have to watch this thing at least three times before I can hear what's going on. Wouldn't recommend purchasing this. Shelly Garrett should be ashamed for putting such an inferior product on the market. And it's too bad, the play is probably actually good if you could see it and actually hear what the actors are saying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

búsqueda de identidad llena de poesía.......2003-12-16

Este momento estelar del cine latino trata las añoranzas de su protagonista Carlos (Hermes Gaido) de una manera muy personal y las traduce en imágenes ricas en expresión y símbolos. La música conmovedora, con elementos tradicionales y modernos, acompaña al joven Carlos en su viaje hacia sus raíces tanto personales como culturales en medio de una realidad social, que el vocablo "triste" sólo describe de manera insuficiente: Al morir su padre adoptivo Genaro (Emilio Urdapilleta), el joven, que se gana la vida como baterista de un grupo punk en Buenos Aires, se queda totalmente huérfano: la vida, que más bien parece coma, de Carlos es interrumpida por esta muerte a manera de shock. Equipado con el viejo bandoneón de Genaro, emprende un viaje a Los Ángeles, un pueblo de mala muerte en medio de la pampa infinita, donde él nació 20 años antes y del que no tiene recuerdo ninguno, igual que de su familia. Su partida es acompañada por una versión punk del antiguo vals criollo "Desde mi alma", música que a lo largo del viaje se convierte más y más en cuartetazos cordobeses, cumbias, chamamés, rasguido doble: sonidos tradicionales compuestos por Fernando Manuel Diéguez especialmente para Tocá para mí y protagonizados por el bandoneón, que le devuelven al hijo pródigo Carlos su identidad cultural.

Tocá para mí supera el pesimismo y la resignación de la posmodernidad y vuelve a un romanticismo moderno: la búsqueda, por difícil que sea, tiene buen fin, gracias a la fuerza curadora del bandoneón, símbolo de las raíces de Carlos, y el amor de Fabiana. Esta road-movie a la argentina supera el abismo entre ciudad y provincia, es un viaje hacia el interior del país y sobre todo hacia el interior del ser humano y a la vez expresión de un vehemente aunque melancólico afán de vivir. Gracias a la naturalidad de los actores, casi todos novatos, la historia a menudo grotesca nunca se inclina hacia la cursilería, sino demuestra que la realidad puede resultar mucho más fantástica que la fantasía.

Not very satisfying..........2003-07-14

I didn't like this movie primarily because it does not offer a lot of message to its viewers. Aside that it does not offer a visual feast in its production design and cinematography, the storyline is a bit poor and does not offer a lot of hype for the audience to ponder about after the movie. The movie is quite simple, a drummer who is trying to figure out his past, by going back to his mother's hometown. There wasn't even something to look forward to in the ending. You just simply wanted the movie to end.

One thing that disappoints me further is that I'm expecting quite some catchy tunes provided as its soundtrack, but it turns out that even the music used for the score is really poor. It's a plain plain movie. Watch it if you have nothing else to do.

Roadie roots movie.......2003-02-26

Set in Argentina, this movie is a cool look at different generations in a country steeped in European influence. The protagonist is Carlos, a young punk rock drummer who leaves his drums behind, in search of his roots, with an accordian(bandeon) in tow left to him after his step father passes away. This surreal movie places Carlos in strange situations as a result of his encounter with Fabiana who is a young hooker by night and mom by day. Fabiana falls for Carlos and helps him in his quest for his identity since he knows not who his parents are. He ends up in Los Angles(not California) and meets an old woman who asisted in childbirths(his) and knows the father. He later goes to a priest to seek birth records and suddenly things change. It is an interesting look at life in Argentina for a young unlikely couple that has a bittersweet ending. If you like movies from Argentina you will probably like it as I loaned a copy of this film to a friend who is from Argentina and he really liked it. If you only like flashy Hollywood productions this is not for you. The scenery is stupendous and accents the mystery.This is more like a Sundance festival movie produced on a minimum budget and the results are a very entertaining but predictable movie.

Two Stars is enough.......2002-12-04

The value of this movie relies on the creativity of some scenes. the surreal touch of them. Something already seen many times but, with a certain unique touch. The body of the film however lacks shape. It's argument is weak and takes the viewer nowhere. It reminds me of a Dada poem where the poem is created by throwing words on the table and arranging them by chance. Just like the magnets now sold for the refrigerators.

Beneath Olivera's Best, But Still A Worthwhile Effort........2005-02-17

Argentinian director Hector Olivera does not always aim his films directly toward a mass audience, as is the case here; however, combined funding from United States and Argentinian origins are decisive in his selection of subject and mood for this English-language effort, shot in Argentina and starring television performer Jack Wagner in his initial feature not made for T.V. For a production not given a theatrical release, Wagner plays Paul Slater, a tenor saxophone jazzman who has drifted into Buenos Aires where he is booked into a small night spot, coming to the attention there of an American mobster and "jazz fan" (William Burns) whose wife Tricia (Tracy Scoggins) is Paul's former lover, and soon the call of lust refuels their affair. Their amorous renascence is heightened when Fred is shot by a gangland rival, and his subsequent wheelchair confinement reduces his social graces to a level where he is physically abusive toward Tricia, and her plight and pleading are instrumental in convincing Paul that he should murder Fred, leading to expected complexities. Olivera's films are marked by tight construction and editing, but here overmuch cutting elides footage important for the storyline, resulting in logic and continuity flaws yet, in spite of these weaknesses, the director, once noted primarily for exploitative movies, manages to create an interesting piece, distinguished by his customary dark and sardonic tone and creative camera and lighting skills.

Catching one of Paul Slater's (Jack Wagner) jazz shows in a Buenos Aires nightclub, a millionaire and jazz fan named Fred Merritt (William Burns) invites him to play at one of his mansion parties. Unbeknown to Fred, Paul had been lovers with his wife, Tricia Merritt (Tracy Scoggins), five years ago, before she left Paul for Fred, due to Paul's overzealous drinking. Not surprisingly, Paul and Tricia hook up about halfway through the movie, making for some steamy scenes and sexual innuendoes on his tenor sax.

While at the above-mentioned party, Fred is shot, which paralyzes him from the legs down (I'm assuming it's not from the waist down, since he has some function of that area, as I mention below) and confines him to a wheelchair for life. Consequently, Fred does a 180 personality change and becomes highly suspicious of his wife's activities, as well as those around him. He's eager to get revenge on the person who did this to him, so he hires a private investigator/hitman to find him/her, leaving a long blood trail of possible suspects.

Most of the characters in "Play Murder For Me" are pretty seedy and unsympathetic, namely the two male leads: Paul, an alcoholic has-been, and Fred, a paranoid rapist. Tricia I didn't really have a problem with, but the thing that bothered me the most was her out-of-character reaction when her handicapped husband rapes her. The scene was totally unbelievable, almost laughable if it weren't so abusive. Sure, the guy's built for his age, but Tricia is no weakling either. She could have held her own (which is seen at the ending) if they'd kept to her character.

The ending's not too surprising either, seeing how they've given a really big "clue" in the tagline. But if you're looking for an adequate B-grade erotic thriller with a jazz theme, then "Play Murder For Me" certainly delivers--sex/nudity, murder, music, and all.

Steamy 80s Soap Stars star in Movie.......2000-11-17

First, I am a Jack Wagner fan; so, I liked the movie just for that reason. The movie stars two Aaron Spelling soap stars and the movie is much like a cable soap opera. The combination of no chemistry between the stars, dark sets, cheap jazz music, and steamy night scenes make for a great made for tv type movie. Not for someone who is not a fan of either star.
