Originally released as The Scooby-Doo Show, the 16 episodes included on this Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! The Complete Third Season compilation were produced for the 1978 Scooby's All-Stars television series. They do not include the characters Scooby-Dum or Scooby-Dee, or any Dynomutt programming. The classic Mystery Inc. gang represented here consists of the original five characters: the preppy, take-charge Fred; somewhat ditsy Daphne; intellectual Velma; and the ever-hungry, nervous, and bumbling Shaggy and Scooby. As the gang travels around the globe to places like China, Scotland, England, and the United States, they invariably stumble into one mystery after another. Ghosts and monsters abound, but the persistence of Fred and Daphne combined with Velma's intellect and Shaggy's and Scooby's uncanny tendency to stumble across vital clues ensures a tidy, down-to-earth solution to even the most other-worldly mysteries. Of course, it's the wit and slapstick humor that make these episodes true classics. A 25-minute, 2006 "Hanna-Barbera: From H to B" featurette follows the program and explores the careers of Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera with some very brief original footage of both men and a host of interviews with Hanna-Barbera animators, writers, and voice talent that serve to highlight the two men's individual strengths, tremendous work ethic, and collaborative spirit. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Great DVD set.......2007-07-21
Loved it!! I bought it for my sons ages 6 and 2 who absolutely love Scooby-Doo. Although nothing beats the original Scooby-Doo Where Are You? DVD set, it still brings back Saturday morning memories. It's great because it's something everyone in our family can watch and enjoy together
"That's My Pal!".......2007-07-19
I was very excited to see this, the 3rd season of Scooby Doo Where Are You, available on DVD. I have watched the first two seasons over and over. I was even more excited when I ran down the list of episodes and realized that I hadn't seen most of them! I even found myself laughing out loud at some of the humor in the first couple of episodes. All the shows were great and I can't wait to re-watch them. The breakdown on this two disc set is as follows:
Disc One:
Watch Out! The Willawaw
A Creepy Tangle in the Bermuda Triangle
A Scary Night with a Snow Beast Fright
To Switch a Witch
The Tar Monster
A Highland Fling with a Monstrous Thing
Disc Two Side One:
The Creepy Case of Old Iron Face
Jeepers, It's the Jaguaro (hmmmm, doesn't quite rhyme, does it?)
Make a Beeline Away from That Feline
The Creepy Creature of Vulture's Claw
The Diabolical Disc Demon
Disc Two Side Two:
Scooby's Chinese Fortume Kooky Caper
A Menace in Venice
Don't Go Near the Fortress of Fear
The Warlock of Wimbledon
The Beast is Awake in Bottomless Lake
plus a couple of extras: An interview with people who worked producing the Hanna-Barbera cartoons including footage of Mr Hanna and Mr Barbera. It was actually pretty good. Plus the usual "Hey look at what Scooby Doo DVDs are available" trailer.
A paler shade of Scooby.......2007-07-03
Sorry, but this set is for the dogs. It's like having been served up a packet cake mix after enjoying a really high quality cake made with many rich ingredients. These episodes highlight why the originals were so great with the blend of fabulous backgrounds, detailed drawings, great scripts and the all important "Scooby" music which just oozes atmosphere and makes the whole show gel together. These "lost" episodes were made years after the original series and it's pretty obvious they're just not the same. There are the odd scenes reminiscent of the original but on the whole it's all the excitement of a packet mix plus one egg - the scripts are poor, the scenary is by and large dull and the music is just not right. Let's not get started on how Velma talks - I think she must have taken some slow pills just before recording the dialogue. If you must have it, maybe buy it with a friend to offload some of the disappointment. At least Scrappy wasn't there to make a bland recipe unedible.

The so-called spaghetti Western achieved its apotheosis in Sergio Leone's magnificently mythic (and utterly outlandish) Once upon a Time in the West. After a series of international hits starring Clint Eastwood (from A Fistful of Dollars to The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly), Leone outdid himself with this spectacular, larger-than-life, horse-operatic epic about how the West was won. (And make no mistake: this is the wide, wide West, folks--so the widescreen/letterboxed version is strongly recommended.) The unholy trinity of Italian cinema--Leone, Bernardo Bertolucci, and Dario Argento--concocted the story about a woman (Claudia Cardinale) hanging onto her land in hopes that the transcontinental railroad would reach her before a steely-eyed, black-hearted killer (Fonda) does. (The film's advertising slogan was: "There were three men in her life. One to take her ... one to love her ... and one to kill her.") Meanwhile, Leone shoots his stars' faces as if they were expansive Western landscapes, and their towering bodies as if they were looming rock formations in John Ford's Monument Valley. --Jim Emerson

Sergio Leone's Greatest Western.......2007-09-05
What else can be said about Once Upon A Time In the West? Sergio Leone released his greatest western with this movie. It's a fun from the opening credits to the end credits. A wonderful movie at that.
Finally, on this Two Disc collection we get a commentary track, three featurettes, they can be split. And the movie looks absolutely gorgeous.
It's a definite must have.
My other favorites from him (Once Upon a Time in America (Two-Disc Special Edition) and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - Extended Cut (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)) are also must haves.
The greatest cowboy "art film" ever made. I cried........2007-09-05
I'm not a big fan of western movies...... but this is nothing short of an "art film" masterpiece that has no equal. Morricone's music actually brings tears to my eyes. It is arguably Leone's masterwork. Georgous scenery and incredibly beautiful cinematogophy. This film is a stunning work of beauty and art. I still can't watch it without a tear welling up. Yes, it's terribly slow moving compared to today's "I want explosions, fireballs and laser beams every five seconds" type of films. If you want that kind of film, stick your head inside a strobe light for two hours. "Once Unon a Time" is still the greatest piece of cowboy western cinema ever made.
One of the Best Westerns Ever Made........2007-09-02
Cast, story, locations, can't ask for anything more! Had one problem with my DVD package in that the spoken dialogue was at one sound level but ALL music performed was WAY louder. I had to ride the volume control to watch this great movie, and that is not right. I can't understand how/why they could have screwed things up so much with the audio and still released it for sale. Too bad that they are not forced to have recalls for product problems that are this bad. Do I have the only DVD set with this problem?
pants.......2007-08-25
this version is missing the qoute "why would you wear suspendoers and frank shoot's him. Paramont should be ashamed.
The definitive Western film.......2007-08-23
Together with "Once upon a Time in America" this is to be considered the best tribute Sergio Leone could pay to the United States in its growth to become the power it is now by means of a film. I always loved western films (since black and white, I'm 61).I think that our Italian Director gave a deep psychological view of all the characters and I put at the top of the list a very bad Henry Fonda - especially thinking that he seldom played negative roles (Grape of Wrath, perheaps).
The music of Ennio Morricone is something sublime and I really don't understand why he never won an Oscar in his outstanding career as a composer.
As for the book prefaces it is highly recommended to view in anticipation the DVD with Documentary and Interviews.

The wartime memories of surviving World War II bomber squadrons were still crystal clear when this acclaimed drama was released in 1949--one of the first postwar films out of Hollywood to treat the war on emotionally complex terms. Framed by a postwar prologue and epilogue and told as a flashback appreciation of wartime valor and teamwork, the film stars Gregory Peck in one of his finest performances as a callous general who assumes command of a bomber squadron based in England. At first, the new commander has little rapport with the 918th Bomber Group, whose loyalties still belong with their previous commander. As they continue to fly dangerous missions over Germany, however, the group and their new leader develop mutual respect and admiration, until the once-alienated commander feels that his men are part of a family--men whose bravery transcends the rigors of rigid discipline and by-the-book leadership. The film's now-classic climax, in which the general waits patiently for his squad to return to base--painfully aware that they may not return at all--is one of the most subtle yet emotionally intense scenes of any World War II drama. With Peck in the lead and Dean Jagger doing Oscar-winning work in a crucial supporting role, this was one of veteran director Henry King's proudest achievements, and it still packs a strong dramatic punch. --Jeff Shannon
Description
This gritty World War II action drama staring Gregory Peck, Oscar winner Dean Jagger, Hugh Marlowe, Gary Merrill and Millard Mitchell is seen as one of the most realistic portrayals of the heroics and perils of war. Convinced an air force commander (Gary Merrill) is at the breaking point, Brigadier General Savage (Peck) takes over his struggling bomber group. Kind and understanding, he adopts a crushing discipline to revitalize the demoralized troop. At first resentful and rebellious, the flyers gradually change as Savage guides them to amazing feats. But the stress of command soon takes it's toll and the weary general reaches his own breaking point.
Customer Reviews:
Gregory was at his best............2007-09-16
Gregory Peck gives one of his best performances ever in this all too human story of a general who turns a bomber command into an effective fighting force, and at last bonds with them to become a family of men who care for each other. A real classic gem of WWII films.
12 O'clock High.......2007-09-04
Superb movie. I met B/G Frank Armstrong, the real man the movie was about. I flew several trips in B-17 and only one minor flaw in the cockpit procedure.
I do question all the pilots requesting transfer at the same time - I think that was Hollywood stuff, as such would constitute mutiny, which requires harsh punishment. The movie also does not show how severe the losses were in
the B-17 crews. Highly recommend to people who have no idea about the great sacrifices of those crews. Lt.Col. Ed Robertson (ret)
Life in a Bomber squadron.......2007-08-31
Give a good idea of the life in a Bomber Squadron in the begining of Day Light Bombing over Germany. Gregory Peck plays the role of a Hard General who takes over command over a "Bad Luck" Squadron and softens whens things change.
War as a Deadly Business.......2007-08-28
The film begins when a man buys a mug, then bicycles to a cow pasture. A few years earlier this had been a busy US Air Force B-17 bomber airfield. Then we return to the early days of WW II. A damaged B-17 lands roughly with its combat wounded. Spare planes will arrive, and their next mission will be to fly at 9,000 feet to bomb St. Nazaire and its submarine pens. This lower height results in more accuracy and then fewer missions. [Bombers are long-distance artillery.] Some in the group think they have a jinx for bad luck. [Or at the low end of the learning curve?] No plan is perfect, there is always the unexpected. The film shows how good management can handle problems. Daylight precision bombing is the key to winning the war. It is about production, destroying enemy factories results in a loss of supplies and a less effective armed force. The final target was the ball-bearing factories, the critical part for any mechanical armed force.
A new general starts by enforcing the rules. Visitors will be checked, men will be in uniform and on post; no more slacking off. It's a war, maximum effort is required. General Frank Savage challenges his men to perform better. They should stop worrying about dying and accept the fact some men will die; life will be easier. They will perform better when they have pride in themselves. The best defense against enemy fighters is to fly in close formation so each airplane can defend the others. Any bomber that drops out of formation is likely doomed. These new rules result in better morale and good luck. [The result of more training and experience.] Now men want to sneak aboard to take part in these missions.
The last part of the film shows actual battle scenes from both sides, and the casualties. Gunners are told to use short bursts to save ammunition. Their bombs are dropped when they reach their target. One bomber takes a direct hit and explodes in the air. Others are damaged and fall behind. Enemy fighters are shot down. At the end General Savage suffers from burn out, the result of "maximum effort". Everyone has a breaking point, man or machine. The ending shows 19 of 21 bombers returning, a heavy 9% loss. [The later use of long-distance fighters like the P-51 reduced losses.]
This film is unusual in being primarily about the control and management of a military force (a specialized form of business management). Few films made during WW II are now shown on TV since the 1970s. You can compare this to "A Walk in the Sun" for its point of view. While "Frank Savage" is fictional, there was a reference to "Kirk May"; that could be the real Curtis LeMay. The Strategic Air Command (STRAC?) of the 1950s was a monument to the Air Force, but also massive inefficiency in preparing for a war that never happened. One fault in this film is its worship of authoritarianism, a Great Leader who can do no wrong. Wasn't this what we were fighting? The peace-time draft did two things: it soaked up men to keep unemployment down, and worked to support American hegemony after the defeat of the Axis powers and the declining colonial powers. It provided brain-washing of a generation to a military point of view. [Lately the anti-gun nuts are claiming a .50 caliber rifle could shoot down a jet airplane. This film shows .50 caliber machine guns firing at slower propeller-driven airplanes and mostly missing. They usually needed the combined fire from many machine guns to damage enemy fighters.]
Still Powerful .......2007-08-27
One of the classics that really holds up well. Riveting, powerful, and thoroughly researched. Loosely based on true characters and events. The details add rich texture to this evocative telling of an exhausted bomber group that gets a tough new leader. A compassionate telling of the price of war on the human pshyche without ever leaving out the warmth of humanity in dire conditions.

You might not get a thrill from the sight of Faye Dunaway and Marlon Brando throwing popcorn into each other's mouths, but that didn't stop this movie from gaining a new lease on life thanks to cable television and home video. It's a quirky romantic comedy about a mental patient (Johnny Depp) who claims to be Don Juan, the world's greatest lover, and he gets quite a few women to believe it's true. Brando plays the psychiatrist who tries to analyze his patient's apparent delusion, and Dunaway plays Brando's wife, who wants to inject some Don Juan-ish romance into their marital routine. Walking a fine line between precious comedy, wistful drama, and delicate fantasy, the movie gets a big dose of charm from its esteemed cast, with Depp delivering dialogue that would have sounded ludicrous from a lesser actor. This may not be a great movie, but it is guaranteed to put you in an amorous mood. --Jeff Shannon

Any movie that has these two great actors in it is a must-see. Johnny Depp plays what is his sexiest and most romantic and charismatic role. Enough said.
Should have won the Academy Award.......2007-06-04
A rare combination of superb acting by nearly every member of the cast from cameo to lead,
superbly crafted scenes, editing and direction. A story of life, love and the pursuit of incurable
romantic optimism that can teach us not to take ourselves so seriously.
Enjoy it.
A Delightful Film.......2007-05-18
Don Juan Demarco certainly is not one of Johnny Depp's better roles but I cannot think of anyone who could have played his mental patient who believes he is (and actually is) the world's greatest lover. The film is a romantic comedy revolving around the overwhelming romantic effect Don Juan Demarco has just simply being around women and on his doctor (Jack Mickler played by Marlon Brando). As Don Juan relates his fantasy-like life and romantic awakening he influences his doctor to romance his wife, played by Faye Dunaway. It may be a bit of a stretch to see Marlon Brando as romantic at a weight of 300 plus pounds but there is a playful chemistry between Dunaway and Brando that is charming. The story of Don Juan's life is fantastic, including his duel with the father of the woman he has fallen in love with, being sold into slavery to a Sultana and living in a harem surrounded by women. What tension there is in the film centers on if Don Juan will be committed or released before his 10 days of observation lapse. In this, Dr. Mickler is certain that he will be released but faces opposition from all of the other staff doctors who would prefer to see Don Juan on medication.
The supporting cast turns in fine performances and includes Rachel Ticotin as Don Juan's mother. Overall this is a feel-good and entertaining film with some very good performances, and for that reason I am giving it 5 stars. I saw part of the movie on a cable channel and became caught up in the story enough to want to have a copy.

What can I say - Johnny Depp once again proves what a fantastic actor he is.

A cultish horror favorite, 1962's What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? will make you think twice before hungrily unveiling a covered plate of food. Bette Davis stars as Jane Hudson, a onetime child actress and singer. As an elderly woman, she wishes to revive her vaudevillian career, but she has become a grotesque caricature of her former self. Over the years as her star faded, the star of her older sister Blanche (Joan Crawford) rose, outshining the career of the has-been Baby Jane. Jane was relegated to minor roles, which she only won when Blanche demanded that she be awarded them. The film opens years after a calamitous car accident leaves Blanche in a wheelchair, with no one to care for her except the increasingly insane and sadistic Jane and their servant, Norman. Trying to punish Blanche for her years of success, Jane tortures the housebound woman, slowly trying to starve her to death, all the while attempting to recapture the fame of her youth. This dark drama also stars Victor Buono as the hefty pianist who answers Jane's ad for an accompanist, hoping to milk some money off the demented old woman. Both Buono and Davis were nominated for Oscars for their roles in this suspenseful and somewhat sick thriller that exploited well the real-life antagonism between Davis and Crawford, while at the same time rejuvenated both their careers. --Jenny Brown
Customer Reviews:
No oscar for Betty?.......2007-08-28
Well she didn't win one, and the poor thing had to sit and watch Joan accept an award (on behalf of another actor).
She was absolutely robbed, one of Hollywood's biggest mortal sins in my opinion.
BUT, at least Betty got to beat the hell out of Joan in this movie!
Which makes me feel a whole lot better, even though it wasn't real, pretending it is makes me feel like justice was served.
So suck it Joan! (though she is a great actress herself, no doubt).
Terrifying.......2007-08-03
The story of sibling rivalry and two aging actresses. Bette Davis and Joan Crawford play two sisters who were each stars in the Golden Age of Hollywood and are now forced to live together. Bette's Jane was the bigger star in childhood and Joan's Blanche became a much bigger star as an adult. The jealousy proceeded to eat Jane up alive and she became an alcoholic. Due to an accident, Blanche is now forced to live with Jane. To say anymore would be to give away the plot, but this movie terrified me as a little kid and is still frightening today. It's a horror movie in that the horror is what jealousy can do to a person. It's also a lesson in that things are never really what they seem. The two grande dames are at their finest.
Old horror classic with a twist!.......2007-07-12
Great movie, a classic. I won't give it all away but it's about two sisters who stay together for decades, one caring for the other (but not the way a typical sister would). Baby Jane (the stage name of one of the sisters) is played by Bette Davis and the other sister is played by Joan Crawford - two great actresses! You really have to watch it, I don't want to give away spoilers to this great movie with a twist. And, like all old horror movies, there's no scary gore like in today's movies (I like horror movies, but can't stand the gore of today's films).
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?.......2007-07-02
Aldrich's campy cult classic still chills, thanks to a deliciously creepy premise which borrows from "Sunset Boulevard" in exposing the mental disintegration of a one-time star. Still, this is a more ghoulish affair, with Jane finding a variety of sinister ways to torture poor Blanche. Leads Davis and Crawford had parallel Hollywood careers, and their rivalry was famous, yet they'd never worked together before this (nor would they again!). Davis in particular is fearless as demented harridan Jane, and corpulent Victor Buono adds a revolting touch as Jane's smarmy accompanist.
Baby Jane? Who the hell is Baby Jane?.......2007-06-08
"What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" was originally billed as a horror movie, but by today's standards is more of a thriller. No one could have asked for a better star pairing. Joan Crawford plays the sympathetic 'good sister' Blanche, a faded screen starlet wheelchair bound and left tormented at the hands of her psychotic sister, Jane. Jane was once a cutesy childhood performer, groomed and dresed up like a little doll. Like Shirely Temple, her performances probably made pedophiles grin. An embittered, nasty woman who never quite grew up past being a spoiled child, Jane is eager for any audience. Bette Davis really nails the part of Jane, as viewers are given no choice but to simply HATE her character. She really steals the show. Crawford is also very good too, as viewers feel pity for her, hoping she'll make it in the end. The ending is ambiguous. An excellent movie that provides an interesting character study of child starlets, fame, sibling rivalry, and the dire for attention.

One of the better romantic comedies of the 1990s, this quirky love story stars Kevin Costner as washed-up golf pro Roy "Tin Cup" McAvoy, who has the singular misfortune of falling in love with the girlfriend (Rene Russo) of his arch rival (Don Johnson). Although he is inspired to re-ignite his golf career, challenge his opponent in the U.S. Open, and win the affection of the woman of his dreams, McAvoy has just one flaw: he's a show off when he should just focus on playing the game. Reunited with his Bull Durham writer-director Ron Shelton, Costner fits into his role like a favorite pair of shoes, and costar Cheech Marin scores a memorable scene-stealing comeback as McAvoy's best buddy, Romeo Posar. Mixing his love of sports with his flair for fresh, comedic dialogue, Shelton takes this enjoyable movie down unexpected detours (although some may find it a bit too long), and his characters are delightfully unpredictable. --Jeff Shannon
Description
An unreachable shot to the green. A hopeless romance. Driving-range pro Roy McAvoy can't resist an impossible challenge. Each is what he calls a defining moment. You define it. Or it defines you. With lady-killer charm and a game that can make par with garden tools, Kevin Costner rejoins Bull Durham filmmaker Ron Shelton for another funny tale of the games people play. For Costner's Roy, golf is a head-and heart-game. On both counts, that's where shrink Molly Griswold (Rene Russo) comes in. She's big city, Roy's small time, and he believes only the grandest of gestures can lure her away from a slick touring pro (Don Johnson) and earn her love. So Roy and his dutiful caddy (Cheech Marin) set out to do the impossible: win the U.S. Open. With laughs, clever battle-of-the-sexes banter and a handy way with a 7-iron, Tin Cup winningly defines the moment and contemporary romantic comedy

Santini's Review.......2007-08-24
This one is for the golfer and sports enthusiast. It is fun with an interesting and new story line.
Not for real golfers.......2007-03-19
I bought this video for my husband - an avid golfer. This doesn't compare with the movies profiling the lives of Bobby Jones or Francis Ouimet.
for golf fans only.......2007-02-26
There's a nice soundtrack but otherwise not much to recommend. Costner is constantly obsessed with proving he can make the big shot. How can anyone sympathize or empathize with a compulsive jerk like this. If anything this movie must be about the pointlessness of golf itself.
Entertaining and enjoyable.......2007-02-25
With golf being as fun and popular as it is,it is great to see movies about golf being made. "Tin Cup" is a great addition to golf movies, and while it may not be "Happy Gilmore" or "Caddyshack",has a great plot and script that will keep its viewers entertained until the very end...
This movie begins with going into the life of Roy McAvoy (Kevin Costner). While Roy may be a talented golfer with a lot of good friends, there is one problem that lies within Roy. The problem? When Roy gets angry,Roy gets destructive. And,when Roy gets destructive, not only does he cause harm for himself,he causes harm for other people,at the same time--two things that have taken a negative effect on Roy's life.
But then, one day, things change. This is when Roy meets a shrink named Dr. Molly Griswold(Rene Russo),who is a nice person that is not only smart when it comes to the issue of golf, but who also ends up(unexpectdly and unplanned)winning the heart of Roy. For Roy,this seems like a great opportunity to find real and true love and to reform himself....yet here,Roy finds another problem. This problem:the fact that not only does Molly have a boyfriend, but the fact that her boyfriend is a man named David Simms(Don Johnson),another golfer who happens to be the archnemises of Roy McAvoy(for good reasons,I might add). From here, can Roy not only win the U.S. open, but be able to bring Molly over from being David's girlfriend to being his girlfriend? Only time will tell!!!
When it comes down to "Tin Cup",this film has a lot of high points going for it. Not only is the plot for this film both interesting and creative with a strong and well-paced script accompanying it,which helps bring this movie to life, the acting here is very strong as well. While Kevin Costner's performance of Roy McAvoy in this film may not be one of Costner's best performances (compared to Costner's performances in a lot of his other films, which include "JFK","Dragonfly","The Guardian",etc.),through his performance,Costner does an excellent job at bringing a lot of humor and drama into his performance as Roy McAvoy, which helps this film shape itself. Don Johnson, while he may not be one of America's finest actors, brings the personality of Sonny Crockett onscreen here (with a lot of originality,at the same time)with his perfomance of David Simms. At the same time,Rene Russo does a perfect job at allowing this movie to have chemistry:on its own,for her own character, and between Kevin Costner's performance of Roy McAvoy and Don Johnson's performance of David Simms. These elements here not only keep this film moving along in an intelligent manner, help bring the movie to life and allow this film's viewers to get to know who the characters of Roy,David, and Molly are as people. How can you go wrong there??!!!
As already mentioned by another reviewer, the ending for this film is a bit weird (while,at the same time, some of this film's script does come out too be rather odd for its plot, especially when taking look at other movies that are not only similiar to this film, but are of this film's own genre,as well). But,on top of all of that, with this film's script doing what every film script needs to do(be good and interesting, and take it's time at getting to the main points of the film)and providing a good and worthwhile script here, how can you go wrong with this film? With this film's positive elements,it becomes not only a good golf movie, but a good movie,on it's own.
Special feautures here include profiles for the main actors in this film (Kevin Costner,Rene Russo,Don Johnson,Cheech Marin,as well as director Ron Shelton),and a biography for this film (would have preferred to see a behind-the-scenes look into the making of this film, but with the biography of the film that is provided here having good information that gives one the kind of information about this film that a behind-the-scenes look would,I am not complaining).
Overall,an entertaining and enjoyable film with not only a good plot and scipt, but good acting, accompanied by a good cast of actors and a good director. Worth viewing for not only fans of golf, but all movie fans,in general.
Golfer's Dream.......2006-11-11
This is a great golf movie. Ignore the corny romance part of it. The music and settings are great. This is all about a good golfer, a loser in life, who knows he can make that shot over the water. You really have to be a golfer, and maybe a male golfer, to really appreciate what is going on in his mind. Everytime I watch this movie I can feel my adrenaline flow as I watch these great shots all ending in failure. What golfer has not been in this situation; I know I can make that shot and selecting idiocy over common sense.
Product Description
Lionsgate First Blood (Blu-ray)
First Blood is the Sylvester Stallone film that unleashed "Rambo" onto an unsuspecting world. Wandering into a small, hostiletown, ex-Green Beret John Rambo (Stallone) is targeted for persecution and abuse by potbellied Sheriff Will Teasle (Brian Dennehy). When he can standno more, Rambo goes bonkers, killing a deputy andheading into the surrounding hills, armed to the teeth. Only after Rambo has picked off practicallyevery law enforcement officer within a radius of 50 miles do the local authorities bring in his former commanding officer Trautman (Richard Crenna) for advise. Trautman's response, that the locals had better get a lot of body bags ready, is hardly encouraging. First Blood proved to be one of Stallone's biggest non-Rocky hits. Kirk Douglas had originally been cast as Trautman, but he ankled the project when the producers refused to cave in to Douglas' demand that Trautman kill Rambo in the finale.
Customer Reviews:
Great movie.......2007-05-15
Great movie, Stallone's best movie next to Rocky. The only thing that was kinda disapointing is the video quality of this Blu-ray version.
First Blood looks only slightly beter on Blu-ray than DVD. So close that I even Beleive most average joes and not enthusiasts like me would not be able to tell the diffrence.
There are not many extras either. However this is the trend for up and comming media formats. However if you were to watch new release movies on Blu-ray instead of a re-release. The HD quality will blow your mind.
Unfortunately First Blood is a Re-Release.
They Drew First Blood , Not Me!!!.......2007-05-07
With the amount of different versions of the Rambo movies on DVD, you really get the best of both worlds with this one. For years, the very good David Morrel commentary was the highlight until a Sly Stallone version came out... both commentaries are excellent. The transfer is good for a movie that was shot back in 1982, the sound is pretty good. With the amount of "bubble gum' movies out there, this one is reasonibly priced, great replay value and one of the best Sly movies to boot!!!!
First Blood (Blu-ray).......2007-03-29
Fantastic remastering, superb picture, unbelievable sound, probably about as good as it gets, and for such an old title to have been reproduced with clarity that almost defies belief, I can strongly recommend this title to anyone who has doubts about the reproduction. Just make sure that you have a high definition panel and only the very best in HDMI gold plated leads to get the best out of any Blu-ray title.
First Blood is Back.......2007-02-15
I was very impressed with this Blu Ray Transfer, for a 25year old film Lionsgate have actually done a pretty good job, this is miles better then what they did with Total Recall! The Picture and Sound are a marked improvement over the DVD, there are only a few frames that I could see where it isnt prisitine but dont let this deter you, buy this if you love Rambo he's never looked better!
Looks and sounds great!.......2007-02-07
The Blu-ray version of this looks amazing. I bought the "ultimate edition of the standard DVD a few years ago and this looks notably better - even compared to the former's image being upscaled. This is is the type of picture I expect out of Blu-ray. Not being a Hi-def rocket scientist, I can't speak too much for the sound quality other than it sounds great. I don't have the euipment to process DTS-HD, so I can only assume that it sounds better than what normal DTS provides. The extras on the disc are the same as on the ultimate edition DVD, so you're not losing out on anything like in some of the other Blu-ray ports. My only complaint is this: Lionsgate has got this thing for having the pop-up menu take up most of the screen. Given that the other studios have gone with a nice, low-profile menu that only appears at the bottom, I hope that Lionsgate will adopt this practice sometime in the near future. Other than that, if you're a fan of 'First Blood' I can easily reccomend this disc.

Martin Scorsese's brutal black-and-white biography of self-destructive boxer Jake LaMotta was chosen as the best film of the 1980s in a major critics' poll at the end of the decade, and it's a knockout piece of filmmaking. Robert De Niro plays LaMotta (famously putting on 50 pounds for the later scenes), a man tormented by demons he doesn't understand and prone to uncontrollably violent temper tantrums and fits of irrational jealousy. He marries a striking young blond (Cathy Moriarty), his sexual ideal, and then terrorizes her with never-ending accusations of infidelity. Jake is as frightening as he is pathetic, unable to control or comprehend the baser instincts that periodically, and without warning, turn him into the rampaging beast of the title. But as Roman Catholic Scorsese sees it, he works off his sins in the boxing ring, where his greatest athletic talent is his ability to withstand punishment. The fight scenes are astounding; they're like barbaric ritual dance numbers. Images smash into one another--a flashbulb, a spray of sweat, a fist, a geyser of blood--until you feel dazed from the pummeling. Nominated for a handful of Academy Awards (including best picture and director), Raging Bull won only two, for De Niro and for editor Thelma Schoonmacher. --Jim Emerson
Description
Robert De Niro teams with director Martin Scorsese in this "extraordinarily compelling" (Leonard Maltin) film that introduced unflinching realism to stunned audiences in 1980. An "exceedingly violentas well as poetic" fight picture that maps "the landscape of the soul" (The New York Times),Raging Bull garnered eight OscarÂ(r) nominations* and won two, including Best Actor for De Niro. De Niro gives the performance of his career as Jake La Motta, a boxer whose psychological and sexual complexities erupt into violence both in and out of the ring. Joe Pesci and Cathy Moriarty are unforgettable as the brother who falls prey to Jake's mounting paranoia and jealousy, and the fifteen-year-old girl who becomes his most prized trophy. A "brilliantly photographed film of extraordinary power and rare distinction" (The Wall Street Journal), Raging Bullis filmmaking at its riveting best. *1980: Best Picture, Director, Supporting Actor (Pesci), Supporting Actress (Moriarty), Cinematography, Sound, Editing (won)

Raging Bull My Review.......2007-08-20
Raging Bull, is a good period piece, it shows why Boxing lost popularity. From the kitchen scene near the start till the end Raging Bull is emotional and believable. The worst beating doesnt come in the ring. The way the fights went made me hate the promoters and Ray Robinson. Its hard to like Jake but....
The Greatest Film of the Decade.......2007-08-20
If there was ever a better film to be included in AFI's 10th Anniversary Top Ten list, I wouldn't believe it. This is filmmaking at it's best. Let me begin with the greatest actor working today.
Whenever Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese get together it's cinematic gold. Only years prior they created the iconic character of Travis Bickle. Now, in 1980, they create another iconic screen character: Jake La Motta. Jake La Motta was a New York boxer known as The Raging Bull and Scorsese and De Niro brought him to screen better than any other boxing character in history. Robert De Niro's dedication to this role really shows as, even to this day, I look past the actor, as legendary as he is, and only see Jake La Motta, a troubled but talented man.
I highly recommend this movie. It shows a character study second to almost none. Each one of Scorsese/De Niro's characters leave you with a different feeling. For eight movies now, (Mean Streets (Special Edition), Taxi Driver (Two-Disc Collector's Edition), New York, New York, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, GoodFellas (Two-Disc Special Edition), Cape Fear (10th Anniversary Edition), and Casino), Scorsese and De Niro have created memorable characters. Jake La Motta just may well top the list.
Plus, you can't go wrong with this DVD. Just as with the Two Disc Edition to Goodfellas, there's a commentary with Jake La Motta himself. And the featurettes are wonderful. Higly recommended
Excellent!.......2007-08-16
This is more than a 'sports' movie. Robert De Niro's Oscar performance as Jake LaMotta is still one of the best movies made. Scorsese helped bring out a very human side of a temperamental boxer who can't keep it together. The trouble in his personal life soon spills over into the ring. Cathy Moriarty and Joe Pesci also give wonderful talent to this story. The crumbling relationship between the brothers is especially heartbreaking when we realize Joey seems to be the last thin thread keeping LaMotta from unraveling. When that thread is lost, all hope for the brother's emotional recovery is lost as well.

Raging Bull.......2007-07-09
Based on LaMotta's memoirs and filmed in gorgeous black-and-white, Martin Scorsese's gritty, no-holds-barred drama--possibly his greatest--tackles the familiar theme of redemption with blunt force. Oscar winner De Niro, who famously packed on 50 pounds to do the "fat" scenes, is riveting as the brutish Jake, whose primary talent lies in the amount of punishment he can take in the ring. The fight sequences--raw, sweaty, and savage--are bravura pieces of filmmaking. "Raging Bull" may be hard for some viewers to sit through, but Scorsese ultimately leads his protagonist, and us, to a state of grace.
That's Entertainment.......2007-04-15
I don't think I could say a single thing about "Raging Bull" that someone else hasn't said before me. Even though it's acclaimed frequently as one of the greatest films of all time (rightfully so), it's unjustly billed as a sports film. A boxing movie. It's because of this that it took me so long to see it in the first place. Sure, it's a biopic about a boxer and boxing plays a big part in the film but it's not a sports film. It's a film about a troubled man and his sexual insecurities disguised as a boxing movie. Robert DeNiro (who won the Oscar for the role) plays boxer Jake La Motta; a man who lost a few matches but was never knocked out. A man who would take hundreds of punches just to land one. La Motta, who is vying for the championship, soon meets the 15-year-old blonde bombshell Vickie (Cathy Moriarty) whom he soon marries. Problem is, Jake doesn't trust her (or really anyone around him) and is constantly paranoid about what his wife does. In one pivotal scene, when Vickie mentions that a boxer Jake is about to fight is cute, he beats the boy to a pulp causing a man to lean over to his friend in the audience and say "he ain't pretty no more." Even Jake's brother Joey (Joe Pesci, who should've beat Timothy Hutton for the Oscar) falls prey to Jake's paranoia. Anyone who says DeNiro's performance is incredible is understating it massively. This film displays the best performance I've ever seen by DeNiro and, easily, one of the best performances ever. The things he does for this role are absolutely incredible; From the way he makes his body look from the beginning of the film to the end of the film, to his fake nose, just everything about it...Tour de force has never been a used more appropriately than to describe his performance. Martin Scorsese is a magnificent director who has a long filmography filled with masterpieces, but I wouldn't be stretching the truth by suggesting that "Raging Bull" may very well be his best film. It's no wonder The American Film Institute ranks it as the 24th best film of all time and the reason it is still talked about today. It seems that even though "Ordinary People" beat it out for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, I'm almost positive that years from now "Raging Bull" will most be remembered. If you've never considered seeing "Raging Bull" because it doesn't seem like your type of movie, than you have no idea what you're missing. If you hadn't had a chance to see it yet, but want to, you should see it not. It's a masterpiece of cinema and truly deserves to be called one of the one hundred best films of all time.

The Year is 2033. Earth has been clobbered with a comet, civilization has been destroyed, and it hasn't rained in 11 years. Nearly all the water on the planet is controlled by the evil Water and Power company, which is in turn controlled by the even more evil Kesslee (Malcolm McDowell). Who stands in the way? Some mysterious mutants called the Rippers and, of course, Tank Girl. Lori Petty plays Tank Girl, the wisecracking, defiant heart of the movie, as kind of an inner child gone wild. Unfortunately Petty can't quite carry a movie on her own--her zingers frequently fall flat and she seems to be continually worried that we still like her. Luckily there's Naomi Watts as Jet Girl to save the day: smart, shy, and inherently way more appealing than Tank Girl. Tank Girl is based on the comic of the same name, and it is visually an eye-popper. It's worth watching for the insane set and costume designs alone. --Ali Davis
Description
If you're into in-your-face visuals, outrageous action sequences and non-stop explosive laughs, this is your "rip-roaring power surge of a movie" (L.A. Weekly). The year's 2033 and since a humongous meteor hit earth, the world just hasn't been the same. No Movies, No Cable TV, NO WATER!!! A mega-villain, Kesslee (Malcolm McDowell), the leader of Water & Power, holds the world in his grasp since he controls all the H2O down to the last drop...or so he thinks. Two colossal enemiesstand in his way: (1) The Rippers - an army of half-men/half-kangaroo people whose sole purpose is to bring down the W & P, and (2) a chick with a tank and tons of attitude - a.k.a. Tank Girl (Lori Petty). Kesslee had better get a grip on reality and his water jugs because not even a run in her stocking is going to stop her from saving the planet.

Comicbook Mania At It's Best!.......2007-04-07
Tank Girl is a contender for cult film status as we speak! This has to be the best film ever done in the comic character genre! It is just so funny, belly laugh, funny!!! Lorie Petty was perfection as Rebecca Buck, our own favorite Tank Girl. Naomi Watts played straight woman to Petty's manic force with equal aplomb. The Rippers(kangaroo-human mutants) added to this mix of meyham and merriment! Booga(Tank Girl's love interest)was adorable. Jeff Kober(in a very rare comedic turn for this great character actor)managed to keep Booga the vigilant warrior, yet infuse the character with the innocent, childlike qualities,as called for in the original source material! Ice-T,grumpy,profoundly arrogant, scored as the Ripper,T-Saint. Malcolm McDowell,as the wickedly dark,Kesslee, finishes out the stand-out members of the cast.
The DVD of Tank Girl was a quality production, but simply the film, itself. There were no extras and this was a bit disappointing. There was a lot of controversy between the director of Tank Girl,Rachel Talalay, and the studio over the edit of the film. It would have been just grand if a lot of the deleted footage could have been added to the DVD. A director's commentary and reflections from the cast would also have been a welcome addition. However,on the whole, the DVD of Tank Girl is well worth the buy.
Tank Girl.......2007-03-11
This film is just fun! If you like action, explosions, and to laugh. Then this one is for you.
Tank Girl DVDs.......2007-02-14
I ordered two copies of TANK GIRL, and they arrived very early in the arrival date spectrum. My only complaint is that in one copy, the center part of the inside of the DVD was broken, allowing the DVD itself to move freely inside the case. The DVD didn't get damaged, but now the case is trash.
Hysterical!.......2007-02-09
Lori Petty before she joined the reserves and met Pauly Shore. Just as funny!

Lt.Col. Ed Rober
