Every spring in Austin, Texas, people travel from far and wide to compete in a sophisticated clash of wits known as the O. Henry Pun Off. This event is host to some of the worlds most accomplished manipulators of the English language. This documentary follows four contenders through arduous competition as they battle head to head in their quest to claim the world championship. There are no cash prizes at stake- the punsters compete solely to be known as the best of the worst.

With a fascinating cast of characters whose minds are as twisted as their use of language, Pun-Smoke will elicit as many groans as it will laughs.

This DVD also includes the bonus short, "Edits to the Lederer," where best-selling author Richard Lederer offers up an intellectual framework through which to view this wordplay.

This film was good, except for all the dirty jokes. Also, Mark Morgan is a jerk.

This is probably the most entertaining film I've seen in a while. The characters involved are equally lovable and annoying making for great entertainment. I recommend this film to anyone with an intelligent sense of humor. It's a nice amalagamtion of Spellbound and A Mighty Wind.

Pun-Smoke brings us deep (deeper than I ever thought I would want to go) into the O. Henry National Pun competition, held annually in Austin, Texas.
The filmmakers tenderly and humorously portray a wonderful cast of characters walk a verbal tightrope in their pursuit of national pun champion.
From the long form pun (a five minute monologue or skit using puns) to the exciting, fast-paced pun battles (a back and forth duel on a certain subject), Pun-Smoke will keep you laughing and in awe of the competitors verbal dexterity.
The bonus features bring us further behind the scenes, into the minds of these punsters. Beware, after one viewing you will find yourself obsessed with speaking in puns (much to your friends dismay) and will view language in a different, rather twisted way.
