These episodes are not the best of Barney Fife. Some of his best stuff would include:

Citizen's arrest
The bank job
Barney in the choir
The rumor
Three's a crowd
Convicts at large
Three wishes for Opie

PS: Do yourself a favor and get one (or more) of the full season boxed sets from Paramount; my favorite seasons are 4 and 2. They did a great job restoring the episodes. Crisp and clear picture and sound.

WEll, all of the episodes are good, and in ok quality.. Nothing special... That original theme is gone, and some gay piano thing is put in, but its not that bad, but a little irritiating.. Also, like one of the other viewers said, its the same eight episodes, that have been produced by a million different companys, and packages... But hey, if you dont have them, and they are this cheap, then its great.. No complaints.. Just dont expect a great thing.

Not really the best "collection" money could buy.......2006-07-16

This "collection" of the "best" episodes was okay but there are ones that are far more better. The first thing wrong with this DVD is that all the episodes are the edited episodes that are shown on T.V. and the second thing is that they don't contain the original theme music. However, the picture and sound quality are good.

This is a funny classic sitcom! I have seen a lot of reruns on TVLand and I liked them. This tape has a lot of good episodes, including some with The Darlings and Ernest T. Bass. This show also has some complete seasons on DVD but to be honest I don't want to own every episode on DVD but I would ove to own all of the episodes with The Darlings and all of the episodes with Ernest T. Bass on DVD. I would definitely buy a DVD with every episode with the Darlings and every episode with Ernest T. Bass!

Not really a "best of".......2003-06-24

Like another reviewer said, this DVD isn't really a "best of" collection. It's a collection of eight episodes from the 1963 season.

The episodes look fine, but nothing special. There were no real enhancements to the video or audio. It looks just like it does on television. And the menu is VERY basic. Not a whole lot of time was spent developing this DVD.

The worst part is the lack of the original theme music. Yes, you could say that the actual show is the most important part. But the music was the show's trademark. It's what made it recognizable and memorable. Taking away pieces of the complete artwork of this series is simply unacceptable. Worse yet, the theme music is replaced by a very strange mock song that sounds like it belongs on the Teletubbies.

Additions include artwork, episode information, recipes, Mayberry tidbits, and Mayberry music videos. They are all nice additions, although I doubt Aunt Bea used Bisquick in her pancakes. The music videos are kind of clever, and I thought the mock MTV logo was funny. Artwork fails to inspire me on a television screen though.

If you're an Andy Griffith Show fan, and want to own a bunch of great episodes from the 1963 season, this is for you. If you are a purist this is definitely something you want to stay away from.

If you are looking for uncut episodes, this is not the video to buy. Even though they have added the last few minutes of the program which is usually cut on TV, bits have been cut out of the middle of the episodes. I was very disappointed.

It was a great DVD, don't get me wrong here, the only problem is that this isn't really the best of the Andy Griffith show!! It's more like the best of 1963!! All these episodes are from the same season, I bet thats because thats all they could buy, and not to mention the fact that they couldn't buy the rights to the original theme...

Digiview version.......2007-07-07

The sound and picture quality are good. But on this particular DVD version they replaced the classic whistling theme in the beginning with some piano tune that sounds like it comes from an 80s dramedie. Why they felt the need to replace the original tune is beyond me but it just isn't the same without it.

Best of Andy Griffith? I've seen better episodes than these!.......2003-12-17

First of all, there are supposedly 16 episodes in the public domain of "The Andy Griffith Show". I don't know how they became so, or whether it is possible to release more, but this collection is certainly not the best of the Andy Griffith Show. It seems like they randomly chose some of those public domain episodes, and put them on a DVD. Now, a true DVD of the "Best of the Andy Griffith Show" would be all of the Ernest T. Bass episodes, Barney's First Car, The Big House and a few others worthy of being 'the best'. This is just a cheap mix of rather un-funny episodes being called 'best' to get more sales.

I ordered BOTH the Andy Griffith marathon AND The Best of the Andy Griffith Show. Didn't you say, "customers also buy...."
All 3 shows (yes, only 3) are already on the marathon package!
Obviously, not enough product information is given....
This DVD will be sent back.... Do I even want to consider ordering more of these DVD's? How many episodes were there anyway? OK, let me take a stab in the dark here......more than 15 maybe?????

No theme music. "Best of" is a joke. Only 3 episodes. Would have been much better to watch the reruns on TV. Not at all collector quality.

First of all, I am ticked off at all the other reviews. You don't buy a DVD to just hear the theme song. You buy it for it's content (the show itself). They didn't include the original theme because the creator of it wanted too much royalties to use it on the DVD. Anyway, the DVD contained 3 episodes, "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs (#93, where eleven stray dogs end up in the courthouse)," "High Noon in Mayberry (#80, where an ex-con comes to settle something with Andy)," and "Aunt Bee's Medicine Man (#87, where Aunt Bee gets drunk from 'medicine')." The bonus features are only interactive menus (on all DVDs) and scene access (also on all DVDs). But like I said before, you buy it for the show and nothing else. The running time is 75 mins, and it is formatted for worldwide use. The picture was great, and the Dolby 5.1 surround sound was awesome. Highly recommended....

Love Andy Griffith...But.......2000-04-17

I love the Andy Griffith Show, but this DVD was a big dissappointment. "Best of" not even close, contains only 3 (mediocre) episodes. And doesn't even include the original theme or credit music. "Classic Favorites" is much better, 6 episodes.

I have been watching Andy Griffith since i was 3! I have seen every episode! If you havn't seen it yet, your missing out on something VERY GOOD!

It's OK, but other collection I've seen are better.......2005-01-15

The main thing I noticed about this set is that the image is DARK. I've got a few other Andy Griffith sets, and they all look better than this one. The sound is good, however, and in my opinion it's hard to call anything with Barney bad! It's inexplicable to me that they ditched the original theme music and replaced it with some lame synthesizer track. But I guess that doesn't ruin it entirely. I would recommend getting the complete 1st season from Paramount instead.

Also, I didn't realize when I ordered that this is the same as the Best of Barney and Best of Andy packaged together. Now I have duplicates of everything.

From the fall of 1960 when the Andy Griffith Show premiered to spring 1965 when Don Knotts left the series,Mayberry sheriff Andy Taylor(Griffith) and deputy Barney Fife(Knotts) were in constant partnership when at the police station in Mayberry. This package contains the first humorous police work on screen,big or small. Later there would be humorous police work on "Barney Miller" and the "Police Academy" movies. Giving Griffith and Knotts moral support are Ronny Howard as Andy's son Opie and the late Frances Bavier as Andy's aunt Bee. Howard later would star as Richie Cunningham on "Happy Days" and become one of Hollywood's best-loved movie directors. Griffith would star on "Matlock" and Knotts would join the "Three's Company" cast as landlord Ralph Furley.
