Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good but not great effort.......2007-08-05

This is the first commercially released effort from the Cummings brothers, Ben and Orson, whose current film, If I Didn't Care, has gotten some pretty good reviews as of this writing (August 2007). Nine Out of Ten definitely shows its indie roots; the acting is inconsistent and there is occasional reliance on overly used laugh getters (flatulence, and a really simplistic obvious sendup of right-wing guilt-inducing reprimands of knocking the United States of America based on trivial stuff).

But there is some good stuff here too. The filmmakers spoof, more than anything else, the difficulty of trying to get an indie film actually produced and shot. The filmmaker (who's the main character), in the process of doing so, loses his wife and commits a bunch of sins based on breaking the Ten Commandments--not all ten (at least, I didn't count all ten), but a bunch of 'em.

This is a low-budget work and shows it, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. What it could have used was more polish in the script and stronger, more consistent acting chops all around. Occasionally ham-fisted, it still does a pretty good job of what it's meant to do.

Interestingly enough, the Cummings brothers' second film, If I Didn't Care, is also set on Long Island, as was this movie. Also interesting is that Nine Out of Ten won a couple of awards from the Long Island Film Festival and the Hamptons International Film Festival. Worth seeing--at least once, anyway.

5 out of 5 stars Great Indie Comedy Flick!!.......2007-05-22

This is a great indie comedy flick about a goody two shoes filmmaker breaking a moral code that leads to murder and and mayhem. Check it out!!
