Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great workout!.......2007-09-07

I really like this workout. It's hard to believe you can get a good workout in 8 minutes but you really do, especially the Buns and Thighs section. Time is no longer an excuse.

4 out of 5 stars HIGH FOR WORKOUT, LOW FOR PERSONALITY.......2007-08-23

I had the old version and the workout leader was much more fun..this lady is very deadpan and has a flat Northeast accent.

5 out of 5 stars Nice pack for the punch.......2007-08-22

I bought this along with Shaun T's Hip Hop Abs from Beachbody, the 8 min Core Workout wins hands down on giving a total body burn. I was sore for days after. With 8 min sections I didn't think I would get much workout, but with them combined to a 40 min workout it really burns. I will be including this regularly in my workout regime.

My only complaint is their is no feature to run all the segments, you have to go back to the main menu after each section.

5 out of 5 stars 8 minute abs.......2007-07-19

U have no excuse not to do your ab workout every day! This DVD is fantastic. I luv the organization and the ability to choose between 3 different levels. This way..u can definitely monitor your progress.

5 out of 5 stars Tough workout!.......2007-06-13

I really like this DVD. I work out regularly and this had me sweating big time! And I am quite sore! As you get more advanced, add weights. They're great, basic (and beyond) exercises.

I like that you go through the sections so you have a chance to breathe in between as it sits at the main menu waiting for the next selection. Get some water, catch your breath and move on without having to pause, rewind, etc. You just click on the next section when you're ready to go.

Wasn't sure what to think of something with "8 minutes" as the description, didn't seem like you can get benefit out of that, but when you put the 5 sections together you get a good, 40 minute workout. And you'll feel it in every part worked! What's tough is the "buns" section really works your legs too and then when you get to the "thighs" section, you're working them again. So they really get a good workout!

And the price is great! Overall happy with this purchase.

Product Description

When the coach of Vince Papale's beloved hometown football team hosted an unprecedented open tryout, the public consensus was that it was a waste of time--no one good enough to play professional football was going to be found this way. Certainly no one like Papale--a down-on-his-luck, 30 year-old, substitute teacher and part-time bartender who never even played college football. But against these odds, Papale made the team and soon found himself living every fan's fantasy--moving from his cheap seats in the upper deck to standing on the field as a professional football player.

Amazon.com

Walt Disney Pictures scored a surprise box-office hit with Invincible, and the movie deserved its good reviews as a fine example of how above-average writing, direction, and casting can turn formulaic material into something special. And make no mistake, this is a formulaic movie, with its real-life story embellished with Rocky-like enthusiasm, and lovingly crafted with the same quality of working-class humanism that made The Rookie a similarly popular Disney hit. This time, the inspirational true story is that of Vince Papale, a down-on-his-luck substitute teacher in Philadelphia (played by Mark Wahlberg in a nicely understated performance) who was 30 years old, out of work, abandoned by his wife, and biding time as a bartender when he answered an open call for tryouts on the Philadelphia Eagles NFL football team in 1976. Going with his gut instinct, new coach Dick Vermeil (Greg Kinnear) rewards Papale's diligent efforts with a place on the team, and Invincible combines gridiron guts, low-key romance (as Papale meets his future wife-to-be, played by Elizabeth Banks) and blue-collar friendship in an underdog story that moves, with casual charm and abundant appeal, toward a rousing feel-good finish. Making good use of digital visual effects to recreate Philly's now-demolished Veterans Stadium, director Erickson Core (also serving as his own cinematographer) tackles this heartwarming assignment with intelligence and flair, spinning gold from what could have been just another routine sports movie. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Invincible.......2007-08-26

A beautiful story about determination and success against all odds. I've shown this film to addicts and alcoholics seeking recovery and the reaction was totally positive.

5 out of 5 stars An entertaining portrayal of a true football story.......2007-08-06

Mark Wahlberg does an excellent job of making the story seem true-to-life. I would recommend this move to anyone who likes an 'underdog' story; not just football fans. Of course there's a little bit of romance thrown in for the ladies as well.

3 out of 5 stars was not what I thought it would be.......2007-08-05

We own alot of the great football movies. Friday Night Lights, Remember the Tiatans and I would even through Radio in there. This is why I purchased this movie. First of all some what slow movie didn't really keep my intrest. Second of all I would say really bad acting. Nothing was really belivable. I think I would just wait for this to come out on tv

5 out of 5 stars Wahlberg gives a great performance in this movie.......2007-07-31

Very endearing movie that is about a man who is kind of "off the street" who makes the Eagles team in open tryouts. He goes from becoming a 30 year old bartender to Professional football player and it is a true story that has a lot of heart and emotion to it. Kinnear is also in the movie he plays coach Dick Vermeil. The movie is a great film for the family and is a story about triumph and chance and love of the game so to speak. It does not matter if you like football or the Eagles team it matters that you understand the message. Sometimes a movie like this fails but I think this one is a keeper and shows how dreams do come true even if they seem totally impossible. Mark is great as Vince and it shows the opportunity that is presented to him that he ultimately turns into a dream come true.

5 out of 5 stars Rocky in the NFL.......2007-07-11

In 1975 the Philadelphia Eagles NFL football team was on a 14-year losing streak. They had no heart and they had disappointed a city that needed them. Then a down-on-his-luck 30 year old out of work substitute teacher in Philadelphia, played by Mark Wahlberg, is abandoned by his wife, and biding time as a part-time bartender when he answered an open call for tryouts on the Philadelphia Eagles NFL football team in 1976.

This open call was an act of desperation by a new coach and is what this film is about. This inspirational true story is that of Vince Papale who gave his heart and soul to the team and brought them back to life. He will never be forgotten in Philly, he may not be in the record books, but every Eagles football fan knows him. Vince Papale was making all this happen at the same time the fictional movie "Rocky" was released...so the fans of the Eagles saw that dreams do come true. A lesson we should all remember. I recommend this film for the whole family.

It's hard to say how Shiva Rea would react to being called "the Madonna of yoga," a phrase that appears on the cover of Creative Core Abs. But one thing is certain: the popular, California-based yogi's several DVD programs are uniformly first-rate, and this one is no exception. Roughly defined as the area between the upper thighs and lower ribcage, with particular focus on the abdominals and lower back, the core is "more than our physical center," says Rea; it is "our inner fire," the seat of our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual selves (not to mention the center of a great many yoga poses). Mindful that core exercises are for many of us "a duty, not a pleasure," Rea has designed three different programs (ranging from seven to seventeen minutes) that aim to offer a more creative, innovative approach to the work. The "Water Core" segment includes various seated movements, many involving the arms as well; there are also sequences done on the back, somewhat akin to the bridge pose, as well as the "water wheel," which combines lifting the hips while alternately extending the legs. The "Spontaneous Core" section incorporates some of the previous movements with several new ones, while the "Fire Core," the longest of the three, blends very challenging poses such as chaturanga and the forearm plank with familiar standing asanas like the Warrior II. As usual, the musical accompaniment is effective but not intrusive, while the setting (New Mexico's White Sands National Park) and the HD cinematography by Sion Michel (a camera operator for Memoirs of a Geisha) are stunning. None of that may matter much while you're flat on your back, struggling to understand what it means to treat a pose as if you're "skateboarding on the empty bowl of your pelvis," but Creative Core Abs is likely to yield satisfying results for those who stick with it. --Sam Graham

Description

"The Madonna of yoga, exuding creativity and inspiration" —Yogi Times

Good things flow from a strong core: a long lean torso, a healthy back, a positive flow of energy that benefits every aspect of your life. Now, one of the yoga world's top female teachers shows you an enlightened way to a powerful core. Unlike repetitive conventional abs work, Shiva's fluid yoga-based approach awakens your creativity and inner fire, building strength and grace in the same way that surfing, rock climbing, or dancing does—while you're enjoying yourself, not counting the minutes until it's over. The program includes three flowing segments, which can be done all at once or individually.

Filmed at White Sands National Park, the program was directed by James Wvinner and shot in HD by Hollywood's Sion Michel (Memoirs of a Geisha). Beautiful, effective, inspiring. It's an abs workout you'll look forward to doing again and again.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars best way to use and enjoy this workout.......2007-09-09

I insert one or two sections of this in between some other yoga training and it creates always a wonderful combination. Flowing and dancing brings to the strict cnservative and respectable moovements of yoga the fresh touch it needs. Shiva rea has the talent to reinvent the known in a fresh way.It is a pleasure to try to follow her even if you can never do it perfectly.

5 out of 5 stars Unique and fun workout.......2007-08-30

This DVD made my ab workout creative and interesting. It was really fun to move my core to the great music. And, it was a killer abdominal workout. I noticed the difference in my core right away even though my core muscles were quite strong to begin with.

4 out of 5 stars YOU'LL FEEL IT.......2007-07-22

there is only one shiva and this will work the core like no other yoga program. as typical shiva there is a big dance element and very 'flowy'. may not be for everyone but it is a beautiful practice.

3 out of 5 stars Not for beginners.......2007-07-22

I have done many a yoga class but still consider myself a beginner. I thought this would be a great tape to shape up my post partum belly, but was disappointed at the fast pace and unfamiliar, dance-like moves. I felt it was a little bit out of my league.

3 out of 5 stars very unusual.......2007-07-11

I am a Shiva Rea fan and I was disappointed by this DVD. First, it is very short, only 30 minutes. It doesn't feature the yoga matrix. Second, the workouts are not that great. I do not feel that I get that great of an ab workout. I would prefer to continue with my Pilates videos for that. I guess it is a new kind of ab workout where you work the abdominals functionally, but I am used to a different type and it wasn't for me. Also, in some areas, she tells you to improvise your ab workout. This is a lot like Yoga Trance Dance, but you're on your back. I felt strange doing this. I am a dancer, and when I dance, I perform improvisationally, but doing an ab workout improvisationally was really strange. It's not that I enjoy ab workouts so much that I can just let my spirit flow!

4 out of 5 stars Denise Austin - Core complete.......2007-09-16

I love Denise Austin; this is another one of her fabulous workouts. This is a great way to get a good all over body stretch and flexibility work out. The balancing with the ball becomes easier over time.

5 out of 5 stars Great Work Out! One of the Best one's out their! .......2007-09-06

I love this work out!! I have a lot of Denise workout DVD's & a lot of others. I think this is her/the best one yet. I love that she works the abs in every 15 minute segment (who doesn't need the extra attention in that area!). I'm not a person that enjoys working my abs, but this tape makes it fun. There are a lot of ab exercises on here that I actually enjoy doing. I like that you're able to customize your work-out. You can do the whole workout or you can do just 1 or 2. I would highly recommend this DVD for immediate workouts. It takes a while to get on the same pace as Denise, but after you do you appreciate it. Some tapes have long pauses in between sets. I like to keep moving!

5 out of 5 stars BEST ONE YET.......2007-07-06

Easy to follow and really gets "my sweat on". Easy to follow and has a lot of the same moves you use in Shrink Your Female Fat Zones DVD. Denise has it broke down into Warm up, Core & Arms, Core & Legs, Core & Buns, and an 18 minute Core Complete. The other Core sessions are 15 minutes each. I enjoy doing a combination of 2 of the core sessions.

4 out of 5 stars Great Core workout!.......2007-06-27

Ok guys, for those of you who don't know Denise Austin I'll give you a heads up. She is incredibly perky and can get annoying, but she really knows what she's doing!
I pretty well have every Denise Austin video out there and snatched this one up as soon as it came out. I was not disappointed, it's a great overall workout. My only complaint (and it's a small one!) is that I like having toned arms and this video doesn't focus on the arms as much as I would like. Overall, it's a fabulous core workout and it's a bit more challenging than the "Shrink your Female Fat Zones" video it's often compared to.

2 out of 5 stars Denise.......2007-06-20

This was my first Denise Austin workout video and I was annoyed with her within the first 10- seconds of the workout. I couldn't stand her voice or facial expressions, she was like a robot. Also, I did all the sections of the dvd and I found it to be ineffective as far as toning goes. I never really felt anything. I don't think I'll be using this tape again or buying another Denise Austin tape. It might be good for beginners, though. I would only recommend this to those who already own other Denise Austin tapes and aren't turned off by her excesssive encouragement or voice.

The amiable sci-fi spoof The Ice Pirates has earned a small but vocal cadre of admirers thanks to its go-for-broke gags and a healthy disrespect for outer space epics like the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises. An atypically goofy Robert Urich stars as the leader of a band of space pirates who kidnap a princess (Mary Crosby of Dallas fame), and then join her quest to find a mythical planet that can solve the universe's water shortage. A completely game (shameless?) cast (which includes Anjelica Huston in fetching leather gear, Ron Perlman, John Matuszak, and fantastic film icon John Carradine) and Stewart (The Philadelphia Experiment) and Raffill's breezy direction help sell the funniest bits (most notably, the notorious "space herpy" scene, and the frantic time-warp finale) and make the more leaden jokes palatable. --Paul Gaita

Description

Spoofy-goofy comedy, otherworldly special effects, spectacular space creatures, bedraggled 'bots, and biceps-ripplnig swashbuckling highlight this cult fave. In the future, as the galaxy's water supply starts to run out, a band of pirates searches for a new water source.

This movie made me laugh my a$$ off the whole claw thing is more than enough to want to buy it.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST!.......2007-08-04

I loved this movie as a kid, and am now getting ready to show it to my child. It is so bad that it is ridiculously good. I can't wait to see it again.

I recommend that every one sees it at least once. You will either love it or hate it. It is just silly fun. It gave me new respect for Robert Ulrich. Now i'm getting all giddy thinking about seeing it again.

4 out of 5 stars Great 80s nostalgia.......2007-07-30

I was a teen when I saw this in the theaters. I loved it then and I love it now. Some of the comedy is silly and low-brow, but there are times when the film evokes a hearty belly-laugh (like when Roscoe's afro gets out of hand during the time warp - hilarious!).

The special effects were quite good for their time and the story was very original. The DVD itself, however, is somewhat lackluster. The picture quality is a bit grainy and the only special feature is an overlong and uninteresting trailer, but I guess I'll take what I can get.

Hey, it's fun! What other excuse do you need to see a movie?

5 out of 5 stars Funny and twisted.......2007-07-28

I loved this movie when it came out in VHS and just had to have it when I found it here.
It is so funny, I laugh each time I see it.

1 out of 5 stars A gaggle of sci-fi cliches masquerading as parody.......2007-07-24

I couldn't believe when I saw the average rating for this movie was 4 stars. The movie is godawful! I saw this a few times on cable back in the late 1980s, and I thought it was funny at the time. What a difference 20 years makes. I recently bought it for old time's sake, paid 8 bucks for it, and feel dreadfully ripped off. Singularly lame humor, poor acting, mildly interesting idea wasted in a dopey script. I chuckled a little at the robo-pimp and the space herpes, but that was it. My 16 year old son thought it was supremely stupid & continues to berate me for ever buying it.

What is it about so-called "parodies" that they seem to be held to a lower standard than the films they supposedly lampoon? They still need to be original, funny, or at least generally unboring. This isn't. Don't waste 90 minutes of your life, you'll never get it back. (Too bad this dreck is available on DVD, while the more entertaining homage "Battle Beyond the Stars" with Richard Thomas is not.)

3 out of 5 stars Better story than a movie.......2007-08-09

All the pieces are in place for this movie. The production values are surprisingly superb. The story is a tale most dream of. The problem as I see it, after watching the special features and seeing "the real" Vince Papale is Mark Wahlberg just doesn't bring the fun spark of who Vince Papale was. Mark just sort of sulks through the whole movie which brings it down quite a bit.

The picture and sound are both amazing as well as the painstaking re-creation of "The Vet". Sadly, it all becomes a wash in many ways. Wahlberg more or less sleepwalks through the movie and I never felt the connection with him and his "friends" (who were all interchangable), in short, the casting all around was adequate but little else. How do you go from being a bartender to a Philadelphia Eagle making 100X's what you were making and not shed ONE TEAR in the process? You don't, except in this movie.

While I cannot recommend this as a purchase I do recommend it as a movie to see.

Edit: The following is from Wikipedia which is in stark contrast to the cinderella story portrayed in Invincible;

"In 1974, while bartending at Max's in Prospect Park and substitute-teaching at Interboro High School, he successfully tried out for the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League as a wide receiver. Papale caught 9 passes for 121 yards, 13.4 average. His performance with that team earned him a meeting with Coach Dick Vermeil of the Philadelphia Eagles after general manager Jim Murray got him an invitation to a private work-out held by Coach Vermeil."

In the movie he moved right from bartending to the Eagles which is a much more dramatic story, but apparently not factual.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent movie........2007-07-15

Beer and football, need I convince you further to see this movie? Seriously this is an excellent movie and the Blu-Ray video and audio transfer are absolutely superb. I just loved the music score and that kicks off right from the very start.

3 out of 5 stars Mark Walberg's been better.......2007-03-14

I liked this movie but not completely what I was expecting. It was based on a true story which also made it appealing but I found the story kind of dragged on. The football scenes were amazing though. Really got into the action and let you feel the violence that is professional football.

5 out of 5 stars Great movie and awesome picture and features.......2007-01-06

Movies in high definition are the future. This one was brilliantly made anyways (without the high-definition) and you add in the HD with Blu-Ray and the extra features (documentary on the real Vince Papale) and it just enhances the experience. I saw this at the movies and had to own it. It's inspirational and teaches that you are never too old to achieve your dreams. Definite buy on Blu-Ray or regular DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Pilates DVD.......2007-06-28

This is a GREAT workout! You can stop whenever you want but if you do the full hour, you will feel really great. There are modifications demonstrated by a second girl so that you have some choices!

5 out of 5 stars I'm an inch taller already!.......2007-03-17

Just kidding! But after doing this workout, I feel an inch taller. Most "core" workouts focus on strengthening the abdominal muscles and neglect the other core muscles - namely the back and butt. "Abdominals and Back" lives up to its name; after doing the workout for the first time last night I can really feel my lower back muscles (in a good way).

Karen is a great instructor; she explains exactly how to do each move and is very encouraging. My other Pilates routines are 20 minutes, so I was a bit daunted by doing a 50 minute routine but the time flew by. And as another reviewer commented, Karen's figure and form are inspirational.

I'm confident that this workout will strengthen my back for sports and weightlifting.

5 out of 5 stars I really like it........2007-03-16

I think that this video is absolutely great for those of us who wish to combine our regular exercise routine with a different element, such as Pilates. It definitely takes some getting used to, but once you get the hold of it, it is challenging and relaxing. The music is flowy and contemporary and Karen's directions are delivered with inesteemable accuracy. Plus, Karen's and her assistant's, Sarah, strength, flexibility and grace are worthy of emulation. As you may judge by my score, I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Strengthen the Powerhouse.......2007-02-12

Are you looking for a workout to strengthen the "powerhouse" area of your body? That area from which all movements should begin. Karen has designed this beautifully and as you zero in on your abdominals, you also focus on strengthening your back.

This is a 50-minute ALL-floor workout. You alternate between abdominal sculpting and simple back-strengthening and stretching moves to create a more balance and stable center. Karen combines the teachings of Joseph Pilates, yoga, and ballet with her own body-sculpting techniques.

"Imagine your body, no matter its shape, having the posture, lightness and elegance of a dancer." ~Karen Voight

This will help you create a more stable center. You will find yourself sitting up taller and this particular video left me lying on the floor watching the second half because after you finish this workout, you know you have worked out.

There is a small bonus section which shows how you can incorporate the Resist-a-Ring into your workout. I didn't find that part of the video that appealing as there was no music and you would have to remember how to do all the moves. It might be useful for those who are very experienced with the moves Karen has developed. I would have rather seen them incorporated into the video in a more organized fashion.

For this workout you will only need a yoga mat and a towel. This helps to give you enough padding if you are working on a carpeted surface. Karen does sell a body reform mat if you are working out on a hard floor.

If you love this workout, you will also enjoy Core Essentials and Total Body Training. They are all great fun and really motivate you with a great combination of creativity and enjoyable music.

I feel completely relaxed after doing any of the Body Reform workouts. They have a wonderful balancing effect on my emotions and my mind seems to be free of distraction. As if the cares of the world just drift away with Karen's magical calming voice.

You will just love some of these moves if you work on the computer all day. It is amazing how tight your shoulders and chest can become. This workout will open out your chest and stretch that tired back.

Definitely Intermediate in some exercises, but mostly this is for anyone. There is one move, you might want to consider skipping. It is the one where you are raising your back off the floor and you then raise one leg up into the air. It is tricky, tricky. I would not recommend it for anyone who is not practicing yoga on a regular basis!

This girl knows how to get you motivated. Just looking at her body makes me wish I had her motivation! She is just amazing. I can't wait for more Karen Videos. I want them ALL! And I am dying for her to make a really long and wonderfully relaxing stretch video. The one I have is good, but I would love to see her do a really creative outdoor video with tons of stretching. Something that would just help you drift away.

If you enjoy this workout, look for The Method workouts. They have
similar movements and are a bit more advanced and intense.

5 out of 5 stars Great Yoga Practice.......2007-05-13

This is a wonderful DVD. I had been hesistant to use DVDs for my yoga practice, as I have always preferred to do my practice with a group of people. But Baron Baptiste's DVDs have provided me with the perfect alternative since I don't have a lot of yoga options in the town that I currently live. I use this DVD and Unlocking Athletic Power, both of which were filmed live, and provide a great visual for modifying postures. Baron's descriptions of the postures, and soothing voice make for a great practice. After only 3 weeks I feel stronger, and with less joint and muscle pain that I was feeling before. These practices are only a 1/2 hour long, so I'm able to start my day with the practice without having to get up an hour or two early. Its a great way to clear one's head and make for a fresh start for the day. I highly recommend these DVDs.

5 out of 5 stars Great Core Workout.......2007-05-13

I really like Baron Baptiste! He was one of the first to do Power Yoga and he has made it accesible to everyone.
He moves very fast during the salutations but it is not hard to get into the flow and it does warm up the body.
My regular pracitce is now Kundlaini Yoga, thanks to Ana & Ravi, but this is great to do once or twice a week to get my Power Yoga fix!

5 out of 5 stars Good short routine for inbetween ;-).......2007-01-05

A few words about myself so you can judge easier if my opinion might be helpfull for you: I'm into Power Yoga since about 6 Years, I practice every day and teach Power Vinyasa Yoga at a local Hotel Spa Fitness Club.
I personally prefer physically demanding Flow Routines challenging strength but still contributing to all the aspects of Yoga.
Beeing german my spelling is far from perfect, sorry for that!
About the DVD:
This is one more of Barons good short programms for the days inbetween when you can't practice 60 to 80 Minutes. It is 30 Minutes long and has a focus on the muscels of the Stomach and Back. It is still a complete Programm featuring Sunsalutations ( only A) and some twists and streches. The programm leaves you warm and energized but is not to hard to do. It will challange the Abs and the back but wont leave you exhausted.
It's a good programm for the morning. I highly recommend all of Barons short Routines since every one is somewhat different, aswell as his longer Programms. Baron is a very skilled, gentil and encouraging teacher giving his students a lot of important information in a calm and soothing manner. The Music of Krishna Das was a great pick for the Background.
A nice flow practice (ones again tis is true for all his programms) with beautifull Yoga Chant music. What else can a Yogi ask for?
I hope this was helpfull to you!

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2006-07-30

I highly recommend this for beginners. A very good ab workout and it improves flexibility. Very easy to follow.

5 out of 5 stars Similar to other DVD's, great for quick yoga.......2006-02-22

My husband and I love all of Baron Baptiste's yoga videos. I have taken several ashtanga yoga courses and I am very picky about my workout. Baron uses yoga terminology and is very good at explaining the movements and modifications. I highly recommend any of his DVD's. Core Power is very similar to some of his other DVD's but it is a condensed version. My husband likes it when he is short on time.

In Brian Helgeland's new director's cut of the film, Mel Gibson portrays Porter, a career criminal bent on revenge after his partners in a street heist pump metal into him and take off with his $70,000 cut. Porter resurfaces, wading into a lurid urban underworld of syndicate kingpins, cops on the take, sniveling informants and deadly gangs. Porter wants his money back. And the way he sets out to get is assures that, from beginning to heart pounding end, Payback pays off big.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Much, Much Better Than the Theatrical Version.......2007-09-02

I had heard about Mel Gibson redoing the third act for Payback, way back when I say it in the theater. At the time, I really enjoyed the movie (rare for a Mel Gibson movie) and, from what I had heard, I honestly thought that it sounded like Mel had made it a better, more entertaining movie. But having seen this version, I'm pleased to say I was very very wrong. I had assumed that the movie would lose it's humor, feel too short, and less action-packed because of the loss of a Kris Kristofferson-ed third act. I was surprised to find that not only did the movie remain darkly comic, but there was actually more action in the Straight Up version. Changes for the positive include: cutting of the redundant voice over (something that had not bothered me in the theater, though I would hate to have it back), more strength coming from Maria Bello's character, and, most importantly, NO TORTURE. True to form, Mel had added scenes of the character being tortured, which in retrospect should surprise NO ONE with any knowledge of the man's filmography.

Everything I loved about the Theatrical Cut remains intact, and plenty of things I didn't need, or outright disliked about the film have been removed. Plus, the film looks GREAT on Blu-ray (assuming you're not an Anti-Grain Zealot), and has at least one candid documentary about the two versions, including new interviews with even Mel Gibson about the changes. Buy this before Paramoront stops making it!

3 out of 5 stars Payback.......2007-08-17

Directors Beware! On most occasions studios step in and destroy the Director's vision. This is a rare occasion when the big bad studio got it right. Brian Helgeland's cut is interesting and enjoyable, but it remains a pale shadow of the original release. The studio's recasting of the villian from female to a male was a masterstroke as Kris Kristofferson was one of the highlights of the original release. This Blu Ray Director's Cut eliminates my two favourite scenes - 'Happy Birthday' and 'Another Wrong Number'. Completely forgiveable if the original studio release was including in the Blu Ray 'Director's Cut' DVD. So, what do I have? A prettier, inferior version.

5 out of 5 stars The better version.......2007-07-04

A good film, made even better. The transfer to Blu-ray is very well done and the extras are interesting. The disc is region free and works great on my European PS3.

2 out of 5 stars Great Picture but...........2007-07-04

The picture quality was great but I didn't like Devane's version, I enjoyed the original better

4 out of 5 stars Good, but original release better........2007-05-13

This version was a good twist from the original. When you see the movie and realize why they changed it in the first place you wonder why? Especially with all the content they feature in movies nowadays. I do feel the movie was originally changed for the better. Not because I felt the original content was bad or vulgar but just for the flow. I felt the original version and content made for a better climax. Again, not to say the directors cut was bad. I wish they included both versions of the movie so I could enjoy them both. It's almost like they are two different movies. Overall I think the movie is still good.

Product Description

Bellydance is an amazing art and one of the world's oldest fitness disciplines. Bellydance emphasizes movements of the abdomen and pelvis, and is an ideal way to develop deep abdominal core strength. Passed down from mother to daughter, this ancient celebratory dance became the traditional method for imparting body awareness, techniques of posture and movement, both natural and beneficial to the female body, as well as preparation for and recovery from childbirth.

In our age of sedentary lifestyles and stress-induced back pain, the bellydance fitness program developed by New York dancer and dance movement researcher, Ayshe, will help you regain and maintain abdominal core awareness and strength: An important step toward healthy and graceful posture, back pain relief, and safer ways to move your body.

Bellydance Core Fitness Workout flows from a warmup and isolations that engage your core muscles, to dance combinations and a beautiful dance routine.

Every movement in the workout has a name that can be referenced in the tutorial section, where each is carefully explained.
The tutorial section contains a 1 hour 40 min. in-depth presentation by Ayshe, explaining the roles of the core muscles in the anatomy of dance movement, and their impact on our health and postural habits.

Core muscles are our deepest muscles, that provide the"cement" that holds the frame of the body, the skeletal stucture, together. When contracting these muscles, the sensation is subtle and very internal, not large and powerful.

In this program we focus on the abdominal core muscles that span the lower spine, pelvis, and legs. Of main importance are the psoas and iliacus (iliopsoas), the key muscles for structural balance in the human body.
The balanced fully-functional psoas is crucial for women's health. If the psoas is in a state of contraction or atrophy it will affect the reproductive system by restricting blood supply and disrupting the

5 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 Stars.......2007-09-08

This is one of the best tutorials I have seen. I would take a half star off for Ayshe being too long-winded in explaining how to correctly perform the moves without injuring yourself. She is very detailed and obviously very knowledgable. You will learn how to execute the moves correctly and you won't find that in the majority of bellydance DVDs. If you do not have access to a live teacher, this is a must have for the lone learner. There are some good DVDs out there, but if you can only afford a few, this one is essential.

4 out of 5 stars Great DVD!.......2007-09-05

I've been looking for a video that is both instructional and gives a workout. This one is great! I love the tutorials on all the different moves, and Ayshe does a great job explaining the movements in the instructional part of the video. This is really great for a beginner like me. I also thought the actual workout was great, I was breaking a sweat, but I wasn't about to drop dead at the end (which is great because very strenuous exercise tends to aggrivate migraines for me). I highly recommend this DVD for anyone wanting to get a fun workout.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for drilling and great for core strength!.......2007-08-30

Bellydance videos seem to fit into one of two genres: instructional or performance. The instructional types can be further broken down into those videos that are fitness oriented and those that tend to focus more on bellydance technique. Generally, I prefer the latter as many of the fitness videos are simply routines that implore viewers to do their best to follow along. Often these fitness videos contain little, if any, information on how to do the movements. There is usually very little time spent on actual technique and movement breakdown. Instead, the instructors tend to err more on the side of producing a video that will have their watchers up and moving, even if they are not necessarily moving safely or with proper bellydance form.

Finally there's a bellydance "fitness" video that corrects this issue, providing a fun, sassy "follow along and dance" format while also including enough technical information to make the best instructional videos fear being sent to the bellydance swap pages. Ayshe, seeking to provide dancers with a way to improve their core abdominal strength, has created a DVD that offers viewers three distinct sections. The first includes all aspects of the typical fitness video (warm up, combinations, a dance section featuring the combos, and a cool down) combined with Ayshe's detailed voice-over description. This part of the video is a great bellydance workout as it is designed to specifically target key muscle groups important for technique such as the psoas and glutes. Each section of this "workout" portion could serve as a stand-alone exercise plan on its own, allowing viewers a nice variety of options all wrapped up into one DVD. For those seeking to simply follow along, the second section provides the same format without the narration. This part is in the standard fitness video style, allowing viewers to work at their own pace along with the video.

The third part of Ayshe' creation is, on its own, easily worth the price of the video. Here the instructor reveals her special talent of analyzing and clearly explaining the technical details of each movement. Ayshe spends a lot of time discussing the muscles that drive each move, presenting her information clearly and concisely. I was pleased that, although Ayshe certainly knows her human anatomy, I did not need a medical degree to understand her descriptions. And, in addition to all of this technical stuff, Ayshe shows several short drills with each movement and muscle group, a nice bonus for those of us who desire less to practice combinations to improve our dance and more to simply drill, drill, drill!

A particularly interesting aspect of this video was Ayshe's choice of movements. Rather than include the "standards" that many dancers know and love, Ayshe instead chose to highlight those moves that would improve core strength. Ayshe provides an interesting, diverse selection of movements, many of which are rare to find on instructional video. She even includes several folkloric steps, a nice and unexpected touch for a fitness offering.

I confess that I normally steer clear of bellydance fitness videos, but I can honestly say that I not only enjoyed Ayshe's work but will also actually use it regularly. This video is definitely worth a look and one I'd recommend for everyone's collection.

5 out of 5 stars Great foundation!.......2007-06-09

I really enjoyed this video. It provides a very well thought out introduction on the mechanics of the movements. Although the intro is about an hour long it is worth watching. The meat of the video is an even paced choreography that is very easy to follow. I would recommend this video for people who are just starting to learn how to belly dance like myself and individuals who like an explanation of each movement.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD.......2007-04-27

I have never written a review but feel compelled to write one for this DVD. I have a few bellydance dvds that are out in the market (Dolphinas, Neon bellydance for abs to name a few) This is the first one that goes in to specific detail as to where the movement comes from. I have tried to learn some traditional and basic belly dance moves from other dvd's but this one broke down the movement that I would say it can also be used as an intro to bellydance moves that originate from the hips and core region.

The tutorial is long and drawn out but you can fast forward when you feel you have heard enough.

The warm ups and work out its self is well put together and although it looks simple you really work target areas. Great DVD to have for beginners.
