Fantasy enthusiasts and animal documentary aficionados alike are sure to get a kick from this imaginative blend of adventure and nature special that purports to investigate the discovery of a dragon's corpse in modern-day Romania. Director Justin Hardy skillfully balances the framing story of a British scientific team that attempts to understand the creature's unique capabilities (flight, fire breathing) with documentary-style "re-creations" (narrated by The Lord of the Rings' Ian Holm) that explain how dragons evolved since prehistoric times. Stunning CGI effects (members of the visual effects team worked previously on the Walking with Dinosaurs series and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) help make these flashbacks as realistic as possible, but what really sells the premise is the script by Hardy and Charlie Foley (with assistance from acclaimed fantasy author Neil Gaiman), which uses real animal biology and history to present a compelling and plausible case for the existence of these mythological animals. --Paul Gaita

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME.......2007-03-25

loved this show, looked SO real, totally believable that they found a fully preserved dragon

2 out of 5 stars Tis ok........2007-02-23

Im a big fan of dragons, I liked the movie somewhat but I wished it dove into history more than it had. It only touched on things I already knew of draconic origins and the rest was fiction. Great animations. I originally saw it on Discovery Channel and had wanted a copy for myself for a long time before I looked at amazon for it.

5 out of 5 stars Very well made........2007-01-13

This movie single handedly fueled my 8 year old's current obsession with dragons. LOL The CGI is on par with Walking with Dinosaurs and the others in that series. While it's made in a similar documentary style, it has a nice storyline about a scientist studying the dragons that is engaging as well. I actually enjoyed that as much as the dragon piece.

But I'm a geek. :D

4 out of 5 stars Dragons, Science?, Unconvincing Actors, and that T-rex that appeared in Dinotopia .......2006-12-06

This show is quite interesting. I liked the way that the scientists tried to give a scientific explanation on how dragons fly and breathed fire (I still am not convinced however). The special effects were beyond brilliant. But then again, Framestore (The animation company that worked on this, and the "Walking With..." series) never lets us down when it comes to animation. Speaking of Framestore, doesn't that T-rex that appeared at the beginning of the movie the look vaguely similar to the T-rex model used in Dinotopia (Yes, Framestore worked on Dinotopia too.)? I guess they did that to save money. Or mabye it's an inside joke. Anyway, this is a good show. The only thing that prevented it from getting four stars, was the fact that over half of the movie was devoted to those annoying scientists (not to mention the fact that the acting was not the best). Overall, if you can fast forward past all of that hokey acting, you will definitely have a blast!

5 out of 5 stars One great film!.......2006-11-07

I have got to get get a copy of this! I always thought dragons were awesome, but the stuff about six limbs and fire breath is hard to swallow. Not any more! I missed the part that said it was fiction, the animation was so good i thought it must have been true! I think maybe dragons exist (or existed) as an offshoot of the Velociraptor-like species resembling the prehistoric dragon from the movie. Get a copy!
