Director Tobe Hooper was a hot property after he scored a popular hit with Poltergeist (thanks in part to producer Steven Spielberg), so his follow-up film was the most wildly ambitious of his career to date. Armed with a big budget and a special effects crew led by Star Wars pioneer John Dykstra, Hooper and Alien cowriter Dan O'Bannon whipped up a movie that must be seen to be believed. That's not really a compliment, since Lifeforce isn't much of a movie when all the sound and fury is over. But you've got to admit there's something crazily admirable about a movie that starts out as a science fiction adventure about a mission to explore Halley's comet, turns into an alien-invasion thriller featuring a beautiful naked woman (Mathilda May) who's a vampire from space, and escalates into an end-of-the-world disaster flick! It's got everything you could want from a horror movie--from zombies running amok in London to rotting corpses and energy bolts to signal the apocalypse to come! Holding it all together is Steve Railsback as the Halley mission survivor who holds the key to mankind's salvation--but what fun is saving the world when you could be seduced by a sexy naked space vampire? Check out Lifeforce to see how it all turns out. The widescreen DVD includes 15 minutes of footage not seen in U.S. theaters, an eight-page booklet of production notes and trivia, and the original theatrical trailer. --Jeff Shannon
Description
From the director of Poltergeist and co-writer of Alien comes a thrilling sci-fi adventure of explosive action and pulse-pounding suspense. With mind-blowing special effects by OscarÂ(r) winner* John Dykstra, Lifeforce is a sci-fi extravaganza that delivers out-of-this-world excitement. A mission to investigate Halley's Comet discovers an even more fascinating phenomenon: an alien spacecraft! After a deadly confrontation, the aliens travel to Earth, where their seductive leader (Mathilda May) begins a terrifying campaign to drain the life force of everyone she encounters. Her victims, in turn, continue the cycle, and soon the entire planet is in mortal danger. And when the mission's sole survivor (Steve Railsback) sets out to destroy her, he comes face to face with the most charmingand horrifyingbeing he's ever known. Will he be able to destroy the lovely vampiress...or will he become yet another victim of her fatal charm? *1977: Visual Effects, Star Wars
Customer Reviews:
Great Movie. Horrible quality of DVD.......2007-08-22
I like this movie a lot. Unfortunately the DVD quality is a mess. Noisy, grainy, and actually defective. I am surprised nobody else has mentioned this. The blurry, noisy trailer that is included, skips and never plays properly. I have had 3 different copies and they all are defective that way.
a new release of this.......2007-08-10
is coming Sept 11-it would be nice to know if it has been anamorphicaly enhanced, or just a catalog reissue (but then, why not just keep restocking the same old same old?)
See it to believe it.......2007-07-27
Tobe Hooper's (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist) wild and imaginitive alien invasion/vampire romp Lifeforce hasn't aged very well to say the least. Steve Railsback plays an astronaut whose botched mission to explore Haley's Comet results in the discovery of life sucking vampires (including a seductive and frequently naked one played by Mathilda May) who soon invade Earth with destructive plans on their minds. For everything that Lifeforce has going for it, it has an equal amount going against it. A good majority of the film is predictable, and Hooper's directing isn't half as imaginitive as it was in the films that made him a horror icon. Despite that though, there's still plenty to hold your interest (the gorgeous May in particular), and Railsback is great, and there's just some perverse thrill in seeing him and Patrick Stewart engage (no pun intended) in some creepily weird moments. On that note alone, Lifeforce is worth checking out.
A fun adventure/love story, kinda.......2007-05-21
It had me from the get go. The final resolution was hot, but did it resolve any of the horror now happening in the world??

A Favorite Yoga DVD.......2007-06-24
Life Force Yoga to Beat the Blues is an all around fabulous yoga DVD whether you suffer from the blues or not. Amy Weintraub is a fabulous teacher and her instructions are clear and concise. The magnificent scenery and soothing music make it a feast for the senses. I own many yoga DVDs but this is an all time favorite!!

Yoga Teacher
Not for bipolar.......2007-05-07
I was somewhat disappointed with this DVD. When I received it, I discovered that many of the exercises are not for people with bipolar disorder (or inflammatory conditions such as IBD)...which would have been good to know before I bought the DVD. Also, I found the Sanskrit music rather annoying. However, the yoga teacher does seem to know about yoga and depression.
Yoga to Beat the Blues.......2007-03-12
I found this video very comforting and a great yoga practice as all of the poses and breathing exercises are aimed at helping depression and anxiety. Amy is a lovely teacher! I especially like the joint warm up at the beginning!
Excellent Yoga DVD to Improve Your Energy Level and Mood.......2007-02-12
LifeForce Yoga to Beat the Blues is beautifully done and uplifting. The practice is easy to follow, and it really improves one's mood, energy level and sense of being "in balance." The opening joint warm-up dance is so much fun and uses great sanskrit music. Amy Weintraub's descriptions of the breathing practices, yoga poses and yoga flows are excellent. She also weaves mantra throughout the practice, which adds another dimension. I would recommend this to anyone, at any level, who wants to improve their sense of physical, mental and emotional well-being.
