Description

Two men, voluntarily hibernated, are awakened 50 years later to learn that their world doesn't exist anymore. Nuclear war destroyed all the Earth's vegetation, men were exterminated and women are ruling from the underground. Facing harsh treatment from their female guards, they will do anything to save themselves and to reestablish the male population. This movie has a lot of nudity. Two friends awaken 50 years after they were frozen cryogenically in a hibernation experiment to discover they are the only two men left on earth. While the pair were asleep, a special nuclear bomb had destroyed all other human males. Women, who dress in transparent plastic, now control the world, and they graciously allow the two men to stay as long as they rid themselves of their "manhood." Unwilling to accept those terms, the pair escape, which sets off a series of wild escapades in the new world order.

A Classic.......2006-04-13

I just watched this film with my dad, and i think it is a classic, it reminded me of a national lampoons movie, the two main actors reminded me of chevy chase and dan akroyd in that spy movie they were in. i dont remember a dull moment, simply hilarious, we watched a version on a old tape, so i cant wait to get a copy of it on DvD.

"Seksmisja" is practically a classic in Polish cinema. Although it is known to be a comedy, it is also science fiction. Made in 1984, Seksmisja is not one of your loaded with special effects films. It has relatively simple sets and effects that might resemble the original Star Trek, but this does add a unique flavor to the humor. Seeing women on rollerskates and using slides to get around in a futuristic world is amusing.

The story is about two men who are cytogenetically frozen and wake up in a strange world. It is an underground city in a post World War III world. But even more shocking is that there are no men. The two men are now captives in a world of women.

I have nothing but high praise for this movie and ranks among one of my favorite Polish films I ever watched. It so ingeniously blends an interesting story with humor that will make you laugh as well as think on some of the political commentary mixed into the story on the dangers of radical feminism. To top it off, most of the women in this world are nice to look at making it difficult to ask for anything more.

THE Polish movie.......2005-08-31

This is the holy grail of Polish cinema. talk to any Polish person and Sex Misje is the movie they will laugh and shout about! There is a reason and for the extra enthusiasm, this movie is best watched with a Polish companion, who can provide intermittent bits of trivia.

This movie, is not only superbly funny, the acting and the direction are superb. Of course, this is not the usual blonde or college flick comedy and it would never please fans of that brand of comedy. This is a serious, good hearted, superbly simple movie and its best seen through the Communist\Polish lens of a long long time ago.

A big dissapointment.......2005-06-11

I wouldn't mind Sexmission's sexist conservative message, if the film would have been better made. The script is idiotic, the acting horrible, the art direction clumsy, the camerawork plain ugly and the sound amateuristic and crappy.
Even that I could stand if it was funny. But the jokes are lame and childish. Not a recommendation.

One of the best Machulski comedies!.......2005-03-18

This is a very watchable film for westerners. Most of the comedy is timeless (poking fun at women's lib and the gender wars) but there's also a lot to observe in the background such as Polish culture and 1970/80's sci-fi effects and fashion. Much of the filming was done at the famous Wieliczka salt mine. There's a big deal made about the nudity but it's mostly casual and there's no sex either. Imagine Benny Hill meeting Dark Star.

The story starts out in August 1991. Television transmitting an epic experiment. Maks and Albert are about to be put to hibernation. When they woke up in 2044, they find out from doctor Lamia, that during the time they were asleep, nuclear war took place and as a result of it, all men were destroyed. In response, they most likely are the only living specimens of the male gender on the planet. Women on the other hand are a different story. Thanks to parthenogenesis, they give birth to females only. Maks and Albert are shocked but eventually realize that they have been living in a totally artificial, underground world.
