From a visual standpoint, this CG feature starring the venerable '80s and '90s superheroes the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is nothing short of slam-bang; the computer animation has a scope and look that transcends both the original comics and animated series and the three live-action features that preceded it. Writer/director Kevin Munroe creates a striking animated world for the four heroes in a half-shell to live, play, and fight in, and the action sequences are occasionally breathtaking in their speed and complexity. But where TMNT stumbles is its bland plot, which picks up after the last of the live-action features with all four teen turtles in disarray, and abandons longtime villain Shredder in favor of an industrialist (well voiced by Patrick Stewart) who recruits the Foot Clan (including Karai, played by Zhang Ziyi) to revive thirteen ancient monsters to aid in his world domination scheme. It's a simple and fun story for kids, but longtime Turtles fans will miss the wry humor and smart sense of irony of the original comics (created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, who gets an executive producer credit here) in this storyline. Still, for most adolescent audience members, such concerns won't matter a whit in the face of the abundant action. --Paul Gaita
Description
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles return in an all-new CGI action adventure, written and directed by Kevin Munroe. After the defeat of their old arch nemesis, The Shredder, the Turtles have grown apart as a family. Struggling to keep them together, their rat sensei, Splinter (Mako), becomes worried when strange things begin to brew in New York City. Tech-industrialist Maximillian J. Winters (Patrick Stewart) is raising up an army of ancient monsters, and only one super-ninja fighting team can stop them-- Leonardo (James Arnold Taylor), Michelangelo (Mikey Kelley), Donatello (Mitchell Whitfield) and Raphael (Nolan North)! With the help of old allies April O'Neil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Casey Jones (Chris Evans), the Turtles are in for the fight of their lives as they once again must face the mysterious Foot Clan, who have put their own ninja skills behind Winters' endeavors.

Worth Seeing if You Want to Know What Happens Next in the Turtles' Lives.......2007-09-17
When I was a kid, I loved the Ninja Turtles and I used to watch them whenever they were on with my younger brother and sister. We even used to make our dad make pizza for us as often as possible so that we could imitate them. Anyway, my point is, we were really obsessed with the Ninja Turtles as children.
This new movie, let's face it, was designed for kids, but does try to take into account the fact that there are most-likely going to be adults watching as well. As a result, the movie comes off as kiddish with some humor that adults can enjoy mixed in. At the beginning of the movie, I had a hard time shaking off the feeling that I was going to be watching a video game, due to the CGI animation, but after a while I was able to ignore that feeling and enjoy the movie. My favorite parts were mainly the interactions between the brothers. I thought the exterior story with the monsters was pretty dumb, but I would gladly watch the movie again just for the turtles.
Like I said earlier, I used to be obsessed with them, but, eventually I grew up and forgot about them. When this movie came out, I was excited that they were making movies about them again, but I was a little worried that it would be ruined because of the animation form. I'll end this by saying that I'm glad that I took the chance to see them again, because after viewing the movie I realized just how much I had missed the Turtles. I am very grateful for the opportunity to watch, as an adult, a more grown up version of the four turtles that had meant so much to me as a child.
A Return to Form.......2007-09-11
I used to read the comic book "back in the day," watched the animated TV show and even the movies. Yes, the horrible live-action movies. My expectations were low when this movie came out so I didn't see it in a theater. After renting it from Amazon, I now regret that I missed seeing it on the big screen.
The animation is top notch and the voice acting is decent. What surprised me the most was the story. Unlike the live-action films, it wasn't loaded up with lame surfer jokes and slapstick. The story stayed true to the comic and captured the essence of what makes TMNT fun.
I highly recommend seeing this film.
Not a timid success.......2007-09-08
I think everything in this movie was nicely presented with great editing and moved forward with a lot of grace, just as the live action films had been, but definitely with more allowance for the different scenes and effects. Mostly, I liked the story, and I think that it stands out among other animations. TMNT has all that someone would want from a story. I admit I was a little nostalgic going back to it, but it was a nostalgia I couldn't deny at the sight of this magnificent show of honor. From one scene to the next, there was no pausing to do something else, or anxiety, or any dislike for anything in it. And that's how I remember movies to be. Lately, it's just all going beserk. TMNT was a nice surprise, and it shows there are some dedicated people when it comes to movies like this. And Sarah Michelle Geller was a real surprise...she was right for this one.
Turtles still rock after all these years!.......2007-09-08
LOVED IT!!! From the previews I thought it was gonna suck because it was animated instead of live action like the previous movies were but this movie totally rocked! I thought the animation was fast, colorful, and it made the turtles look really cool! I still love Mikey! He's been my favorite since I was like 7 years old. This movie was a little dark, which I loved, and the fight between Leo and Raf was the best part! I hope there's a sequel!!!
Thank god this was animated and not live action! .......2007-09-02
This film is okay. It appeals more to elementary school kids at most. What's good about this film is the 3D animation and the voice casting of the turtles and April and Casey. The only voice that really bothered me was Master Splinter's. He sounded like he had a dry throat the entire time. The plot is a little weak. It focuses mostly on the relationship between Leonardo and Raphael which is a disappointment because it's supposed to be about four turtles not two. They're also supposed to find 13 monsters that have been around thousands of years and put them in a portal. They've been around for that long and some how haven't made the news. Anyway Leo's supposed to be a better leader so he leaves and we find him in Central America or somewhere around there in the beginning of the film. When he comes back everyone, but Raphael accepts him back. Raphael has been moonlighting as the Nightwatcher, a vigilante in the night. Some how none of the turtles, or Master Splinter for that matter, figure out that it's him. Not that many guys looking to kick evil's ass at night and since he's asleep all day and out all night what could he be doing?! Another problem is Casey and April. Casey is going around at night fighting criminals with a bat and a hockey mask. Raphael I understand. I mean you see him wearing cool metal armor and he's got martial arts. Plus two small knives which he's deadly with and a motorcycle. You san understand why he hasn't gotten killed doing this, but Casey is doing the same thing and doesn't have any of the advantages that Raphael has. He doesn't even drive anything. He just walks! How come he isn't dead? I don't know. April is first presented as an archaeologist which is believable, but later we see her fighting with a sword against thousands of ninjas. Her and Casey make it out alright for some reason. The turtles are in this fight too and them I do believe making it out alright, but an archaeologist and a tough guy against ninjas? Come on. There are two more good things though. One is the music. When you hear it in the movie it just fits in with the scenes. Particularity a scene in where Raphael, as the Nightwatcher, is fighting a little monster. The other good thing is the opening scene in which two armies are fighting each other. It's a cool thing to watch on screen. However, this film would've been better if the story was different. If they had begun the story with the turtles origins and had then face the Shredder ending with Leo's departure it would probably have been more entertaining. This film has some decent action and voice casting(for the most part), but it is a film you could live without seeing.

Amazing..........2007-08-22
The best test of the HD DVD format here is to watch the rooftop battle scene between Raphael and Leonardo and the sewer skateboarding scenes. AMAZING graphics. In scenes where the turtles are moving, the details of how their spots stretch is incredible. Ironically the one aspect that makes this movie look like a cartoon is the human actors/actresses, the turtles look more lifelike than anything else.
Good Kid Movie.......2007-08-10
I passed on seeing this one in the theater, but I bought it for my kids. Its a computer generated movie, has a few recognizable voices (Chris Evens, Larry Fishbourne, Sarah Michele Gellar, etc), and its actually a lot different (better) than I thought it would be. I wont spoil it, but its a good storyline. The only negative thing I can say is that I didnt like the way Splinter's voice didnt match the character. It wasnt terrible, just not great.
Bottomline, the kids loved it... three times now, and it looked outstanding on my 720p telly. Its certainly kid oriented, but I found it easy to sit through as well. Recommended. (It has some cool extras, too. Alternate beginning and ending, making of, etc.)

TMNT Great Animation !.......2007-09-11
Great animation movie, you wont be disappointed. But I just wish that if it become a real movie, with real people, it would be a lot more interesting.
Your wondering why I bought this with the score above?.......2007-08-28
Well... I'm a bit nostalgic for CG shows that Bomb. Tron.. The Last Starfighter.. Final Fantasy.. Young Sherlock Holmes.. Sky Captain.. and on and on and so forth. All of which I mentioned had wonderful potential in the exploitation of this new technology. And aside of YSH above, what failed them was the rancid undercook plots and characters. YSH failed because it was trying to tell a Mature story (Murder aplenty there) around a teenager. Bad idea all around. TMNT did not give enough time to the "villain" to appreciate his goals. Not enough time for the sub flunkies to brew a convincing reason for their objectives. The movie slams on the brakes much too often to give the viewer a smooth journey. Buy this if you too are a sucker for past CG failures.
TMNT.......2007-08-28
I THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT ANIMATION FOR YOUNG TEENAGERS ALSO ADULT FANS
FANTASTIC FILM NO REGRETS FOR BUYING THIS FILM WAS FANTASTIC I REALLY ENJOYED IT LOTS FUN AND JAM PACKED WITH ACTION...WOULD GIVE THIS FILM 5 STARS
A shell of a good time.......2007-08-14
I have been a turtles since I was in elementary school so it was good seeing them come back to the new and old generation of fans. The movie is really good, it does not have a really deep story line since its not trying to be an oscar contender. Whats its trying to be is a fun action movie for the whole family to enjoy, and it delivers.
I'll be showing off my HDTV with this movie.......2007-08-10
Quite simply, this movie looks absolutely stunning. If you own a Blu-ray player, you must own this movie. The HD transfer was done beautifully, and will make a great showcase for showing off the wonders of HD.
As for the movie itself, that's great too. Having grown up with the Turtles in the 80's, this movie was a must-see. As another reviewer mentioned, I wasn't too pleased with the scrawny look of the CGI Turtles. But I have to hand it to them, the CGI turned out beautifully and I hope there are more Turtles movie like this one to come. The story was sharp, entertaining, and witty. Every TMNT fan must own this movie.

X-Men: The Last Stand is the third installment in the popular superhero franchise, and it's an exciting one with a splash of fresh new characters. When a scientist named Warren Worthington II announces a "cure" for mutant powers, it raises an interesting philosophical question: is mutant power a disease that needs a cure, or is it a benefit that homo superior enjoys over "normal" human beings? No surprise that Magneto (Ian McKellen) and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants resist the idea that they need to be cured, and declare war on the human race. But it's a little tougher for the X-Men, led by Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Cyclops (James Marsden), and Storm (Halle Berry). If you're Rogue (Anna Paquin), for example, your power means you can't even touch your boyfriend, Iceman (Shawn Ashmore). To compound matters, someone previously thought dead has returned, and might be either friend or foe.
With director Bryan Singer having moved on to Superman Returns, the franchise passes to the hands of Brett Ratner (Rush Hour), whose best work is done in the big action sequences such as a showdown between mutant armies. But it's difficult to manage the sheer volume of characters when adding longtime comic-book stalwarts such as Beast (Kelsey Grammer) and Angel (Ben Foster), and one character in particular deserved better than an off-screen dismissal. And fans of the original Dark Phoenix comic book story might be underwhelmed by the movie's resolution. X-Men: The Last Stand is presumably the last film in the series, but the ambiguous ending leaves possibilities open. Look for the two writers most responsible for making the X-Men who they were, Stan Lee and Chris Claremont, in early cameos. --David Horiuchi

X-Men 3.......2007-09-08
This would be a good movie IF it were not called X-Men. They have completely sabotaged the X-Men storyline from the comics. They came up with new stories, which is sometimes ok, but not here. Jean Grey is barely used, Storm looks weak and undecisive, and Scott, why did they even have him there? THe movie left too many things unexplained, changed the X-men Universe and forgot to give some depth to the characters. This is just an action film and only that. Only Wolverine saves the day and the movie.
For the Child in All of Us.......2007-09-03
Rarely does a movie make me so irritated. After all, it's just a movie. Call me insecure but I resent having my intelligence so obviously mocked. I'm glad I watched it on HBO for the price of cable. The thought that I might have paid to sit through this in the theater is just depressing. A thrown together live-action cartoon movie without depth, style, substance or a whit of genuine insight. A thinly veiled children's movie & two hour toy commercial. At least the first two X-Men were simple-minded mildly intriguing escapist fun. More intelligent than post-Connery-pre-Daniel Craig James Bond but less so than the Spider-Man movies. X3 is just money grubbing dreck that insults it's diehard fan base most of all. There is absolutely no indication that the filmmakers even tried to make a good movie.
I don't know what aspect of the movie I find the most tiresome. So much to choose from. Maybe the indifferent mailed-in acting by otherwise talented actors (McKellen, Stewart, Jackman, Berry, Paquin, etc.) Purhaps the silly, illogical, inconsistent, scribbled down script filled with convenient but insupportable leaps in logic is the most grating. The banal grade school dialogue and emotions are a good candidate. So is the lack of character development. To say the pacing is incompetent is to imply the director, scriptwriter or editor even tried at all. The poorly choreographed and rather boring action scenes were particularly irritating because the previous two X-men did, at least, have exciting action. I think what bothers me the most is the fact that it cost millions and millions to make and was made without the slightest respect for it's audience. That's enough. I think I've exercised my spleen & made my contempt plain enough. I feel much better now.
Quite good, finally..........2007-08-31
I was disgusted by the cliched and obtrusive politics of the first two X-men flicks. I almost felt like identifying with Magneto. But the action, when they got to it, was impressive and left you wanting for more. Someone wrote here at Amazon that this third instalment was less politics and more action. I don't remember whether the person considered that as a compliment. But it seemed like a compliment to me, so I picked up the flick. I was quite pleasently surprised. Or let's say my hopes were fulfilled. Great action, and no obtrusive catering to trendy liberals. Way to go, I say. Every film like this means a little bit more entertainment from Hollywood, and a little bit less propaganda. I only wish they had been more brutal with Logan at the climax. They could have shown some of his adamantium skeleton there. Remember the end of Terminator II? A good dramatic opportunity missed, a good allusion opportunity missed, too. The climax wasn't quite as climactic as it could have been. Wolverine's healing mechanism seemed to be a bit too powerful there for a while, and then it was all over, the climax, I mean.
Nevertheless, heartily recommended.
A Hottt One...BUT..........2007-08-28
For the record, the X-Men trilogy is among my favorite superhero movie collections. X-Men and X-Men United were dreams come to life...as was X-Men:The Last Stand. However...as a comic book purist,I have to agree with some of the other posts and say that X3 was a bit disappointing. Not that the action wasn't there, not that the suspense and the romance weren't there, definately not that the special fx weren't there...but I wasn't feeling the way major characters got killed off in the end, and even more agitating is the way the film ended in light of the fact that there's supposedly NOT going to be an X4. Questions are left unanswered about Phoenix and the characters she disintegrated and all we're left with is anticipation for the Wolverine spin-off and the rumored Magneto spin-off to the X-Men trilogy. Could've been a lot better.
Utterly, utterly dissapointed.......2007-08-23
I was shocked at how ridiculous this movie was. I loved the 2nd one and thought this would be the icing on the cake, but I was actually left speechless at the end. I could find nothing to say since I was so shocked at how stupid this movie was. It was a garbled mess and felt pointless. I truly was hoping to love it but instead I got the complete opposite.

I was very pleased with my purchase. I selected regular shipping, and it arrived at my house in less than a week in perfect condition.
Turtles counting off 1, 2, 3, 4.......2007-08-25
The Turtles are the best. I highly recommend these DVD's to anyone with children who thinks there is nothing good on tv anymore. My whole family loves the Turtles. THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES ROCK!!!!!
3-Pak Ninja Turtles.......2007-08-13
The kids thoroughly enjoy the set. And I was impressed with how fast I recieved the package. Eventhough I did not request the express post, it still came all the way from America very fast. It was very easy to buy from this site and I will do it again.
A little taste of nostaglia..........2007-08-11
I just recently bought this box set to relive my childhood. I grew up on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I watched the cartoon, collected the trading cards, etc. However, I knew that there would be no way I'd enjoy these as much as I did when I was a kid.
Although, I do have to say that the first movie holds up quite well. I still laughed as most of the parts I was supposed to laugh at, and the movie still felt dark. The second one not as much, but it is still fun. It suffers from that "dated" feel it has, particularly with the Vanilla Ice music scene that goes on for waaaaaay too long, and the poor "Tokka" and "Rahzar" costumes. And why does "Mutant Shredder" have clothes that fit him and spikes on his clothing that grew in size? The third one is slightly better than I remember, since I am less frustrated now than I was back then that no villains from the cartoon were in the movie. However, the movie still is not that great and is the most cheesy of them all. And Casey Jones' character was way underused.
In the end these are great for kids, but the adults will really only dig the first one - and only if they liked these when they were young.
Great old classic.......2007-07-08
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3-Pak is an awesome buy. My wife is a real fan from when the turtles first hit the scene. The gift pack was just what she was looking for. I'd definitely recommend this selection to any TMNT fan!

a cult movie in the making.......2007-09-16
***1/2
Reportedly the biggest box office hit in South Korean movie history, "The Host" is a fun monster-movie parody that is also a touching family drama and an indictment of the evils of modern science at one and the same time.
The trouble begins when a U.S. Army mortician orders his reluctant lab assistant to pour mass quantities of spoiled formaldehyde down the drain directly into Seoul's Han River. In no time flat, the toxic waste has mutated into a massive sea creature that can live both on land and in water and which devours any hapless human unfortunate enough to wander onto its path. It also captures certain individuals and drags them to a sewer where he keeps them for later feeding. One such victim is a young girl named Hyun-seo, whose family members - a kindly grandfather, an aunt and an uncle, and her own childlike father - after receiving no assistance from the governmental authorities, are forced to make a desperate attempt on their own to rescue her.
Directed by "Memories of Murder"'s Bong Joon-ho, "The Host" is not a laugh-a-minute parody in the scattershot mold of the "Airplane," "Naked Gun," "Scary Movie" franchises. Instead, it mocks the conventions of its genre while at the same time treating those conventions with seriousness and respect. The characters may act in ways that are silly and goofy, but the threat posed by the creature is always real, so that we laugh at the same time we are awaiting the next suspense-filled jolt to come our way.
The movie, in many ways, is really more about the dynamics of this one family than it is about a city coping with a man-eating monster. Of particular interest is Hyun-seo's father, Gang-du, a kindhearted man who lives with his dad, sleeps most of the day at the store they run, and seems never to have fully grown into adulthood. His idea of good parenting skills is playing video games with his daughter while handing her a freshly opened can of beer. This puts him in direct conflict with his younger brother and sister, who continually berate Gang-du for being an irresponsible parent. It is only in the midst of an intense crisis such as the one the family is facing that Gang-du finds the fortitude, courage and maturity he needs to be a true father to his daughter.
As in most films of this nature, the scientists and governmental authorities in "The Host" are viewed with suspicion, if not downright hostility. They spend most of their time lying to the general public in an attempt to hide their own inadequacies and incompetence. The Americans come in for a particular black eye in this film, which prompts one to wonder just how favorably the United States government is viewed by the people (or at least the filmmakers) of South Korea.
The performances are good, though "The Host" might have been a better film with a few minutes shaved off its running time. As it is, it runs a little long for a movie of this nature, with most of the best laughs occurring in the front portion of the film. It also has a tendency to take itself just a bit too seriously in its final half hour, blunting its satiric edge somewhat as a consequence.
Still, this is a clever, entertaining film with cool special effects and an appealingly self-mocking tone.
not new, not good.......2007-09-03
is a new version of the monster of the lake. With better
effects but without an argument to see.
Fantastic, interesting, original horror film! Don't miss it........2007-09-01
Thank god, FINALLY a horror film that doesn't simply follow all the rules, doing the paint by numbers routine that Hollywood has developed. The Host is refreshingly original, moving, sometimes hysterical, and other times terrifying.... I like to describe it as Jurassic Park meets Little Miss Sunshine. You've got your monster (which, even though the CGI is sometimes lacking, the animation, movement, and personality of the monster is brilliant), and then you've got your (sometimes funny, sometimes sad) dysfunctional family trying to get through the disaster and be there for each other.
Note 1) Do not watch the English dubbing, it is awful.
2) For those reviewers who mention the anti-American slant, it's not quite true - the opening scene (the origin of the monster), where a Korean is told by an American general to dump tons of formaldehyde into the Han river is NOT anti-American propaganda, it is a recreation of an actual event that happened in 2005. So, uh... yeah.
3) It is very different from American monster movies... this is a good thing. The characters and their relationships to each other are actually fairly engaging.
Check out The Host, go in with an open mind, and have a great time.
unique and entertaining.......2007-08-31
i really enjoyed the characters in this movie, and found them to be quite humorous in a realistic sort of way. american horror movies are usually pretty lacking these days, so it's always nice to see something with a little panache.
i also liked the scattered american characters in the movie because they were so true to form.
Something lost in the translation.......2007-08-31
I rated this a one star, just because there was no 'bomb' selection. To be fair, it is not as bad as say 'Plan 9 from outer space', but just barely. If you can get by the poorly translated dialogue and bad acting, you might like the special effects. More like a bad environmentalist and anti-establishment propaganda film along the lines of the '50's B roll, but without the good story line. It is worth a look, but not something I would have added to my library had I known.

For die-hard horror fans, The Hills Have Eyes 2 is a knock-off remake/sequel that delivers a few queasy thrills. While it represents a minor improvement over the 1985 sequel to Wes Craven's 1977 original (you know, the one with the notorious "canine flashback"), it's yet another cookie-cutter exercise in death by stupidity, focusing its Aliens-in-the-desert plot on a scrappy, ill-tempered unit of National Guard soldiers who've been sent to investigate the first remake's hellish aftermath in the bomb-tested wastelands of Nevada. (Like its far-superior 2006 predecessor, this sequel was shot on location in Morocco.) Unfortunately these bickering recruits are an embarrassment to their inauthentic-looking uniforms, and their reckless inexperience (not to mention a tired, uninspired screenplay by Craven and his son Jonathan) makes them easy targets for the ravenous, irradiated mutants who dwell within a treacherous network of tunnels and caves. As the generically good-looking cast is reduced to a few terrorized survivors (which somehow doesn't stop costars Jessica Stroup and Daniella Alonso from looking like fashion models), music-video director Martin Weisz switches to auto-pilot in his dubious feature debut, serving up a basically plotless succession of grisly makeup FX by Howard Berger and his crack team of gore-mongers. The gross-out factor is sufficiently amusing (including one soldier pulled through a hole with one leg in the totally wrong direction), but even devoted horror connoisseurs will have to admit this is pretty lame stuff. --Jeff Shannon

A VERY NICE SEQUAL!!!.......2007-09-01
the first one was very good. i didn't really know what to expect for the second one. i was taken by suprise, it was up there with the first. there's a big difference in the plot, but the crazies are all the same. they thirst for blood, human flesh, and again they get it. i really liked this sequal, i thought they did a nice job, making your skin crawl, and sometimes look away. it's the hill peoples way of life they're mutants what do people expect. they have to do what they must to survive, to breed. i wasn't disappointed at all. if you're to squimish don't even bother.
Horror the Way it Should Be.......2007-08-31
The first 'Hills' drew me to the second film. I was impressed with the presentation of the first. Not only did the writers take a different angle with this one, but suspense and plenty of surprises lie waiting in the hills. For those looking for a 'slasher,' don't look here. This is strictly horror, not a slasher, though slashing does take place.
The characters have personalities, acting skills and are endeared to each other. No, the film isn't 'realistic,' but what horror film is. There's really no such thing as several hills with mutants set on murder. I was entertained by the excercise of my brain while in expectation of lots of horrible scenes. I was pleased with the film as a horror flick - plenty of blood, broken bodies and fright. The acting brought the film up high enough for a 5 in this genre. Worth the watch, but not for the kids.
You can quickly see what went wrong here..................2007-08-29
And see why the movie has received such a low rating. I will comment on two things: the poor script and the unrealistic portrayal of the military (you will see what I mean). As far as the script, I think John Craven (son) wrote it over-night and Wes did not review it. From the beginning, though a somewhat brutal mutant birth sequence, the film resembles something that would go straight to video. Sure a few heads get smashed, some limbs get chopped, and a gratuitous rape scene is included, but "The Hills Have Eyes 2" doesn't have that level of brutality that made the first so fun. Plus most of the kills are quite cartoonish and campy.
In interviews the actors talk about the relationships between their characters- but there is really nothing here more than the generic. None of the characters develop (more than they scream) and the whole subtlety of human interaction is washed away in an ocean of fake blood. While genre veteran Jeff Kober The First Power may be recognizable, the remaining stars are unknown model types garbed in army fatigues who spits out generic lines such as "God doesn't know this place." The acting chops of Ted Levine and Kathleen Quinlan are sorely missed here. To make things interesting, while our motley group of National Guardsmen and women are ill trained, idiotic in behavior and completely incompetent, the new breed of mutants are smart, quick and strong. However, this gets old quick unless the kills are cool or the plot is fun. We get neither. While it's always fun to see how many blows it takes to kill the final baddie in a horror film, the hike through these "Hills" is barely worth your time. The final battle between the hulking mutant Papa Hades (played by the same guy who played Pluto in last year's film) and remaining soldiers is once again inadvertently staged for more laughs than shocks.
While video directors turned first-time film directors are always apt to disappoint (Martin Weisz, this time, who has more than 350 videos to his credit), I'm surprised at this mediocre effort given the writing credits of Wes Craven and son Jonathan. While the story hints at a government project harnessing the power of the mutant offspring in the A-bomb charred remains of New Mexico desert, it only tells enough to suggest yet another sequel or should we say Prequel (hopefully). Maybe this time around we will finally get the "Hills" trilogy that we were promised. Other then that "The Hills have Eyes II" is therefore convicted of that most heinous of cinematic sins- it is both unintelligent and uninteresting. It tortures the eyeballs without justifying the torture it puts us through.
Where are the scares?.......2007-08-24
I was pretty excited about this movie at first, because I think I was under the impression the Alexandre Aja was going to be directing this one as well. I was still pretty excited about it after I found out it would not be Aja directing it, because when I saw the trailer, I still got chills. It looked scary. It looked freaky.
But it wasn't. Sure - the concept of being all alone in the desert with a bunch of mutated freaks is NOT a pleasant one. But that's pretty much where it falls flat. I appreciate the fact that anyone can die at any time, and I appreciate the fact that they use that to their advantage.
The gore is alright, the freaks are nasty. The special features on the DVD are pretty plentiful, and the Gag Reel will most likely have you in stitches. But it just doesn't have the same effect that the first remake had.
(One bonus is that the trailer for Aja's remake is included in the special features, and after watching that, I was creeped out and wished that I had watched that one instead).
Look, I watched this alone in the dark at 2 in the morning, and I wasn't scared. That's not a good sign.
Um this was GROSS!!!.......2007-08-19
For all you people who said this wasn't gross enough or just average you're pretty sick!
The 1st half hour alone was sickening... then to add the blood, guts, brains, body parts.. I mean CMON!!! I jumped a few times also..
All in all it was more disgusting than the 1st one.. worse than Hostel, and Saw 3 combined..
I guess I'm just disgusted by the whole inbreeding idea.. and felt sick when the guy attacked the woman.. Did we really need to see that???????
Don't watch this if your the sensitive type...
If you want to gag... then this is your ticket...
It isn't a bad story line, the acting was good.. with the exception of 1 guy.. worth it if you like to be grossed out beyond belief

A sleeper at the time of its release in 1984, Thom Eberhardt's Night of the Comet has built a small cadre of fans thanks to its breezy performances and blend of comedy and tongue-in-cheek science fiction. Catherine Mary Stewart and Kelli Maroney are thoroughly likable as a pair of San Fernando Valley sisters who find themselves completely alone after the arrival of Halley's Comet reduces their affluent community--and most of Los Angeles--to dust. Their subsequent nonstop shopping spree is soon interrupted by predatory zombies, as well as a sinister scientific cabal (led by cult favorites Mary Woronov and Geoffrey Lewis) with designs on the girls. Stewart and Maroney are terrifically game as the heroines (especially Maroney, whose flair for bubbly comedy was never given another chance on screen), and Robert (Star Trek: Voyager) Beltran is also on hand as a fellow survivor and romantic lead. Fun for '80s enthusiasts and sci-fi fiends who don't mind a little fizz in their end-of-the-world scenarios. -- Paul Gaita

Very clever and smart; new twist to the teen genre.......2007-09-15
I saw this film when it first was released in 1984. I would've dismissed it as nonsense, except Siskel & Ebert's TV show gave it 2-thumbs-up; good advice. This is certainly a new take on the teen survivor film, and far more witty and clever than most. Some great performers here, starting with Kelli Maroney as the younger sister. She's been in a few other films. The other main stars, Robert Beltran and Catherine Mary Stewart were fine, but I've never heard of them since. Thom Eberhardt crafted a great film, and I'm thrilled that it's finally released on DVD. Unfortunately, there are no extras. It's creepy, unsettling and no end of entertaining.Cast and crew info would've been really nice. Too bad this film was written off by the producers as unimportant. It also gives Mary Woronov a chance to shine, as an empathetic scientist. She's always great. Can't blab away the plot, but good sci-fi fantasy, with loads of humor, action, and scary stuff. Check it out!
All depends in what you want.......2007-09-01
If you want a scarry movie then forget it, for starters is a zombie movie where are less than 10 in all the film. The plot is really weak and you never be sacared.
The good thing...well, if you are fan of Catherine Mary Stewart or the 80`s you will enjoy.
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO POLISHING A TURD???..........2007-08-24
Don't get me wrong. I looooooooove 'Night of the Comet'. It's one of my favorite B movies of all time, but where are the EXTRAS and at least...at the very, very, ve-rrrry least, give me a decent DVD cover. This one sucks. This type of production is bullcr#p; especially after all of the time I have waited for this!!!
Take for instance `Aqua Teen Colon Movie', that movie bites so hard and yet, it has a massively cool cover and it's TWO discs!!! I don't even have the season sets of Aqua Teen and I'm tempted to buy this movie just so I can see the DVD in my grubby hands. I am so very TIRED of this junk. If you're going to invest the money to bring these cult gems to the marketplace, please, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee, pleaseeeeeeee think about adding some kind of "cool factor" to it so I can at least feel good about buying it. Otherwise, keep the freakin' movie in obscurity where it freakin' belongs!!! You idiots!
And one more thing...leave your stupid freakin' distributor logo on the spine of the DVD art where it f'n belongs. Nobody wants to see that crud on every one of the DVD's in their collection. You guys are so stupid and you would think that being in business as long as you have, you'd know something about marketing to a specific demographic by now. At least you didn't slap some idiotic `special unrated extra comety edition' on the cover and a review by some obscure website praising the films nostalgic flavor or the usual garbage. GOD! I hate huge companies that have no respect for marketing. I mean, you could sell a million really really bad movies with just the minimalist of efforts towards your products packaging. You losers!
Anyway, the two stars are for the movie actually being released on DVD after a gazillion years and the negative three stars is for your half baked attempt at packaging this so that it would sell. Which, is to say, there was no attempt at all on your part to entice me therefore, I will ignore this as if it doesn't exist until a company like Anchor Bay can buy the rights and produce something worthy of purchase.
A suggestion to whomever greenlighted the packaging for this gar-bage..."Go jump off a bridge or shoot yourself in the face to correct this heinous of errors". You dolt!
80's Vally girls kill Zombies.......2007-08-12
I loved this movie when it came out and i loved seeing it again. FUN FUN FUN what more could you want in a sifi movie. Beautiful girls, the Living dead, and the world as your playground.
Shopping Mall of the Apocalypse.......2007-08-11
This movie defies easy description. It mixes a valley girl comedy with a touch of THE OMEGA MAN. Mass population depletion, zombies, mad scientists, and video games; it's all here.
I first saw the movie when it came out in the theater. While I acknowledge that it is cheesy camp, it is fun cheesy camp! As soon as I heard that it was coming out on DVD, I couldn't wait to find a copy. While I am only rating it with three stars, I was tempted to go for four just because of the good memories I had from the film.
Catherine Mary Stewart, who we have seen in other 80s films like THE LAST STARFIGHTER and WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S, is lovely as always. Kelli Maroney plays her sexy younger sister. A young Robert Beltran (STAR TREK VOYAGER'S Chakotay) makes a good early appearance as a trucker who links up with the gun-toting teens.
To be honest, it would probably be a good idea to rent this film first; it isn't going to be everybody's cup of tea. For those who like it though, this is a definite nostalgic buy!

After scoring popular hits with When Worlds Collide and The War of the Worlds, special-effects pioneer George Pal returned to the visionary fiction of H.G. Wells to produce and direct this science-fiction classic from 1960. Wells's imaginative tale of time travel was published in 1895 and the movie is set in approximately the same period with Rod Taylor as a scientist whose magnificent time machine allows him to leap backward and forward in the annals of history. His adventures take him far into the future, where a meek and ineffectual race known as the Eloi have been forced to hide from the brutally monstrous Morlocks. As Taylor tests his daring invention, Oscar-winning special effects show us what the scientist sees: a cavalcade of sights and sounds as he races through time at varying speeds, from lava flows of ancient earth to the rise and fall of a towering future metropolis.
The movie's charm lies in its Victorian setting and the awe and wonder that carries over from Wells's classic story. The pioneering spirit of the movie is still enthralling, but it gets a bit silly when Taylor turns into a stock hero, rescuing a beautiful blonde Eloi (Yvette Mimieux) and battling with the chubby green Morlocks whose light-bulb eyes blink out when they die. Although it's quaint when compared to the special-effects marvels of the digital age, the movie's still highly entertaining and filled with a timeless sense of wonder. --Jeff Shannon

One of the best.......2007-08-26
This was one of the scariest movies I had seen up until it came out in the 1960s as a child terrified that the A-bomb was going to drop any time I heard a fire alarm. When the Time Traveler gets to 1964 and the air raid sirens are going off, that was it for me. The movie was turned off! I didn't see it in its entirety until several years later and I outgrew (mostly) that fear. I even got a copy of the book and read (most all of) it, for it, too, is a chilling tale of "what if." I happened to watch the 2002 remake last night and it was OK, and entertaining. It definitely has flashier special effects. (How is it that Guy Pearce can outrun those CGI speed-induced Morlocks?) Still, this one with Rod Taylor and Yvette Mimieux is the granddaddy. It won't disappoint.

A timeless classic! Just purchase now! Plus there is a wonderful 2nd sequence between Philby and George after George comes back from the future again!
Absolutely Awesome!!!.......2007-04-08
George Pal's The Time Machine is one of THE great sci fi films. Forget the dumb remake, which totally botches the story. This is about as good as it gets fellow sci fi fans. In this film, a Victorian gentleman visits a hippy commune in the distant future and teaches them how to be men. (Of course that's not the real synopsis, but it fits!)I will not here start expounding on all that's great about this film. There's too much and the review would be too long. I will however say that this is one of my favorite films, has one of my favorite soundtracks, and has one of my all-time favorite main characters/protagonists. Too many sci fi films focus on a future that is better than the present, assuming a priori that things will only get better. I therefore greatly enjoy the novelty of this film's premise: the main character, who does not entirely like the Victorian era he lives in, launches himself on a trek into the future, only to learn that the Victorian era was about as good as it gets. The further he goes into the future, the worse things are, until about 800,000th year or so when he finds that those who are left who still resemble humans have been reduced to passive, unintelligent cattle. Note that the remake entirely botches this point. The Eloi ARE supposed to be human cattle. The remake took too many liberties with the story and unsurprisingly dropped the ball.
First rate movie.......2007-03-29
Very interesting and well done. Really enjoyed the story, acting and cinematography.
Priceless.......2007-03-29
This time travelling tale is getting quite old, but is still fine
entertainment that will stir the imagination. Saw this movie around 40
years ago and even if some stuff is outdated, it still holds my attention.
