3 out of 5 stars Strange....but good.......2006-01-04

Low budget movies are a dime a dozen, but once in a while we find
a gem. Found one in this movie, yes its a strange one, but
the director took a stange direction with this one and it works.
Makes a low budget movie feel like a almost regular weird movie.
Just a bit too much of one character (the warden) but the movie
flows pretty good... hey, now that's quite a tongue on that lady.
The movie falls into the: Must be seen once Category.

When I saw this movie at the video store and noticed it was made by A-Pix productions, I fell down. I was so happy to have found yet another movie by A-Pix, my favorite movie group. So Iwatched it. It was everything I expected; confusing and jumping plotline, horrible effects, and no talent acting. There was a first for A-Pix in this movie; a really hot chick. But, like a slap in the face, we don't even see her lovley lady lumps bared.

No, the only reason I gave this movie one star was because it got better reviews than Grim. As you should well know, Grim was the film that took A-Pix to the top of... well, nothing, really. We should all come to pay our respect to Grim, for we no longer have Kadamba with us. She was shot in London for reasons unknown. Ok, now, type in Grim on the search engine, and bye it. You will thank me.

1 out of 5 stars one of the worst of the worst.......2005-07-18

"Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" is givin credit the credit for being the worst film ever made, and rightly so. This movie may very well be a very close runner up. This film very much has the same feel as Killer Tomatoes, but if you liked that you can probably watch this. But for the rest of you there's absolutely nothing enjoyable at all about this on any level. Calling it schlock would be insulting to schlock movies. The story is so completely aimless; ridiculous and incoherent I could barely sit through it. I doubt that anyone who was in the film even puts it on their resume' it's so indescribably awful and embarrassing. I got to wonder how desperate Melinda Clarke and Robert Englund was to do such a movie? Did the director have some sort of dirt on them or something? I just cannot fathom what came over them. I honestly wish the rating systems had integers, because even zero stars is too good for this drek. Even on the cheese whiz scale I'd give it negative three stars. Plus, it has got to be one of the worst transfers to full screen I've ever seen. Often, the people speaking are only a sliver on the edge of the screen, if on screen at all. I don't think they panned at all; they just stuck it in the middle and scanned away.

3 out of 5 stars Bizarre beyond belief.......2005-01-18

Although all the other reviews of this title are fair and honest, nothing anyone can say will prepare you for the bizarre-o fest that is "Killer Tongue." A worthy companion to "Brain Damage" and "Basket Case."

Fair warning to those who care about such things...the video transfer on this DVD is simply awful. It's clearly an old recycled VHS transfer with nothing done to clean it up. Scene composition is severely compromised and the image is fuzzy and soft throughout. Sound is OK, but no better than VHS Hi-Fi. There are absolutely NO extras beyond a handful of trailers for other films also available from Ardustry. In short, this DVD issue is sadly lacking, but if you're a fan of the flick it will probably do just fine until something better comes along (if ever).

4 out of 5 stars Freaky flick .......2004-09-22

1 out of 5 stars Badly acted low budget psychosexual porn movie, without the porn........2006-04-18

Man, did I waste my money on this stink bomb. I can appreciate sick, twisted and bizarre cinema, but this was just boring. The horrible acting and cheap production was the worst I have seen in a long while. Don't say you haven't been warned.

3 out of 5 stars Worth The Wait?.......2006-01-21

Though SHATTER DEAD was certainly flawed, I did enjoy the early 90's effort from director Scooter McCrae. It was inventive and daring enough to overcome the weak script, poor fx, and hit-and-miss acting. SHATTER DEAD was not perfect, but it was cool and entertaining.

Also cool and entertaining is McCrae's follow-up, SIXTEEN TONGUES. However, we have been waiting for Mr. McCrae to unleash this follow-up for a decade. Does 16T look like a ten year masterpiece? Absolutely not... and that's why I'm disappointed.

The positives:

The story is - again - inventive and daring. 16T is a much better written movie compared to SHATTER DEAD. The plot is very interesting, the characters are excellent, and the dialog is, with an exception here and there, quite good.

The special effects are good, especially for an indie digital video no-budget flick. Some stuff sticks out as being fake looking, but for the most part, the fx get the job done, usually in a spectacular fashion.

The acting is very good. Strong performances from all involved keep you hooked in throughout the movie... despite the movie's flaws...

The negatives:

The movie simply looks cheap. Not in a gritty, cool indie cinema way... but in a weak high school drama club way. Production design was a constant distraction as it held not a shred of realism. I'm supposed to believe we are in a seedy, run down porno hotel... though the building looks like it got a fresh coat of paint last year... and the porno posters on the walls look like they were printed out and hung up with scotch tape earlier that morning. The hotel is a main character in the movie, making this amateur production design a huge failing in the production.

Another flaw to the movie is the lighting. It looks like little to no care was taken in lighting any single shot in the movie. Either the lighting is flat and bland, or it is non-existent. Many shots in the movie zip by in nearly total darkness, increasing the amateur vibe of the flick.

A final (somewhat odd) complaint I have is the lack of actual porno in the movie. Pornography is a major current in the storyline. Entire montages are devoted to pornographic imagery. Yet, everything naughty is blurred out. I would have preferred to actually see this imagery that is so important in the movie... or I would have liked to see it stay off screen entirely.

To sum up SIXTEEN TONGUES, the positives are slightly outweighed by the negatives. If Scooter had put 16T out a year or two after SHATTER DEAD, I might think this new flick was a positive progression for the indie director. Instead, 16T made me think "what the heck has this filmmaker been DOING for the past decade?!?!?" ...probably not working hard on 16T. Maybe it took him 10 years to print all those porno posters out on his home computer?

4 out of 5 stars Sexuality is Damn Scary!.......2005-04-20

This is a step up from Shatter-Dead, but if you're expecting high production values, classy acting, and expensive CGI, go away.

If you enjoy nudity (quite a bit, and weird nudity, things that make you double-check your own body), a good action sequence at the end, and transgressive atmosphere, this is your movie.

Imagine all hell breaking loose at a hotel that hosts porno, whores, and crazy sex acts, and it all taking place in the future on a low budget. It's awesome, but more subtle in its scares rather than in your face.

A good second movie...worth the long seven-year wait.

Description

A taste of hell! "Killer Tongue" is the story of Candy (Melinda Clarke) and Johnny (Jason Durr), a couple of attractive bank robbers on the run from the law. As part of their plan, Johnny turns himself in to the police and is sentenced to a couple of years in prison. All hell breaks loose when a meteor crashes near the Mexican border. A few days before Johnny's release, Candy accidentally eats a piece of meteorite and grows an incredible cannibal tongue with a mind of its own. The tongue comes face to face with Candy's enemies and punishes each one accordingly. With Candy's inability to stop the tongue's behavior, Johnny's love for Candy is the only thing that can ultimately destroy the Killer Tongue.
