Troma Films' Toxic Avenger series shows its lack of legs with the second sequel to its 1985 hit. Despite a typically absurd premise, which has Toxie battling Satan to save his hometown of Tromaville, the film lacks the go-for-broke gags and gore that made the first two films such guilty pleasures. Part of the reason for this may be that the movie was culled from footage shot for The Toxic Avenger, Part II; Troma heads Lloyd Kaufman (who also helmed the feature) and Michael Herz simply stitched together Part III from the loose ends. While haphazard construction is part of the charm of Troma's films, the relatively high quality of the Toxic Avenger series raised the bar, and the slapdash nature of Part III is more of a disappointment than a campy source of humor. True to their nature, Troma disregarded the drubbing this film received and completed a fourth entry, Citizen Toxie. --Paul Gaita

3 out of 5 stars Toxic Avenger Part III.......2007-06-02

The Toxic Avenger Part III is pretty much made up off leftover footage from the Toxic Avenger Part II. That being known, you can tell Toxic Avenger III has a paper thin script. The best part of the movie is the fight scene in the video store, where he rips out a guys intestines.

The plot involves the Toxic Avenger working for the devil, the chairman of Apocalypse Inc, which really doesn't make any since. He battled Apocalypse Inc in Toxic Avenger Part II, so he would already know that Apocalypse Inc is bad. Toxic Avenger wants to get Claire an eye operation. Why is her name Claire in Toxic Avenger II & III, when her name was Sarah in the original? So, if you watched the first two Toxic Avenger movies Part III is going to seem kind of stupid and pointless. Even though is movie pretty much contradicts Toxic Avenger II, I still give it three stars because I enjoyed the first two so much, if you forget about what you know first the first two films part III is fairly entertaining. If you didn't like Toxic Avenger II stay away from this one!

3 out of 5 stars An OK sequel!.......2007-05-25

After the events of part 2, lovable monster superhero Toxie must still deal with the evil forces of the greedy corporation known as Apocalypse Inc. as he struggles to get his fiancee Claire an eye operation to restore her sight. He joins Apocalypse Inc. and becomes a yuppie then the hero every Tromaville citizen loves, unknown to him that the owner of the corporation is actually satan who plans on taking over the town of tromaville but can Toxie regain back his soul and take on the dark lord himself or will Tromaville including humanity will suffer?

An all-right entry of the series though it's not as good as the first, second and fourth entries! The splatter is well done but there's not much of them as shown in the other parts of the saga but the laughs are still there.

This DVD has good picture and sound with the unrated director's cut and cool extras like trailers to this and other Troma movies, an introduction by Toxie creator and Troma president Lloyd Kaufman, interviews with cast, interactive troma map, Toxic Avenger museum with stills and merchandise gallery, easter eggs, where in the world is Toxie? featurette and more.

3 out of 5 stars The Weakest Of All TA's, but still enjoyable........2005-06-29

I first got into the Toxic Avenger with this very movie years ago. I loved the humour and the over the top goofyness of it. I became a fan 'cause of this movie and then later on saw Toxie 1 and saw why people didnt like the sequels 'cause they where more comedy driven then gore, like the original.

However, part II does has some great re-inserted gore bits that makes it better then it's original release. I was hoping that this one, part III, the directors cut would have re-inserted some bloody awsome grouseme shots. But, I hardly noticed any changes at all from the old VHS copy I had.

It had been a long time since I watched any of the Toxies, and watching them all on DVD in the correct order, i did see why this movie is said to be the weakest of them all, it does drag for a while through the middle of it and doesnt pick up untill the end. But there is still some great scenes in it.. however, I cant say you will enjoy it, some will, some wont, it depends on taste and how much you loved the first movie I guess.

The DVD contains the movie. The movies fine, except it looked a bit faded in color. The subtitles are screwed up. it's only in stereo, the commantary is the usual crap, the Toxic interviews would only entertain the die hard fan, they would put everyone else to sleep, Clips from the Anthology Film Archives screening of the movie is a snore, Watch the Naked Dance of the Damned Fat is just a dumb extra added, Absorb the Radiation March is a stupid thing put on every Troma DVD, Visit the Troma Treasure Chest is something that has potential to advertise there gift store, but it's just not funny, Learn to TromaDance is for the dumn at heart, The Mutant Slide Show old-school style is a bunch of pics and cover arts, Where in the World Is Toxie is hardly diffrent from the one on the 1st TA DVD, i didnt even bother going through them all.... the bonus features are pretty weak.. some outtakes & Deleted scenes are badly needed, but unfortunalty none exsist because they where thrown away.

If your a fan of Toxie and want this to complete the collection, then theres no stopping you from buying it, but otherwise, look for it in the cheapie bin or rent it, it's ok, and watchable again and again, but it's not as classic or as strong as part 1, 2 & 4's directors cuts.

4 out of 5 stars The Worst of the Series, But Still a Lot of Fun.......2004-10-13

What a great idea... after Toxie cleans up Tromaville and makes it a "nice place to live" where people are happy and dance like idiots in the streets, who's left for Toxie to oppose? Well, how about THE DEVIL!!! For those that don't know the story behind parts II and III, it was originally supposed to be one movie. The ony problem is that after it was completed it turned out to be something like 6 hours long! So the directer decided to chop the film in half and trim it down to two seperate movies. This explains the continuity problems and the fact that Part III seems to have such a weak plot. It's really just the end of one long movie. Personally I would have liked to see it as a 6 hour epic, but that's just me. So anyway, the themes of evil big business conglomerates being represented by satan is taken literally this time around. Now we find out that the Chairman of Apocalypse Inc (whom you'll remember from part II) is actually Old Nick himself (i.e. Satan) trying to pollute the planet and control the people. Of course we all know who wins. With the help of non other than the Good Lord, Toxie mashes satan. I would say to ignore those advising to steer clear of this movie. I found it to be, while not quite as good as I and II, a good, fun little movie.

    1 out of 5 stars This was a Disappointment.......2003-02-02

As much as I like Troma films, this movie was seriously disappointing. As a fan of the first two films in the Toxic Avenger series I was expecting a lot more from this third installment. Instead, this movie is a large step backwards from the previous two. The acting is horrible, the fight scenes are awful, and the plot is lacking.
And it features one of the worst endings ever. The "videogame" showdown makes little to no sense. Regardless of whether or not you're a Troma fan I recommend steering clear of this one.

The most widely known of Troma Films' stable of low-budget exploitation, The Toxic Avenger is an exuberantly crude poke at superheroes and monster movies, delivered with a healthy dose of cheap gags, splattery special effects, and T&A. It's also a genuinely funny film, and its no-holds-barred attitude has a grubby charm that eludes most gross-out comedies. The Toxic Avenger opens with an absurdly vicious crew preying upon Melvin, a nebbishy janitor. Their pranks land him in a vat of chemical waste, which transforms him into a lumpy monster that deals out gruesome revenge. Directors (and Troma company heads) Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz aim low in detailing "Toxie's" vengeance spree, and the subsequent carnage should please gorehounds. But they're also savvy enough recognize the film's limitations, and wisely camp things with plenty of slapstick. The result is a frantic and funny mess that should amuse even the most dour cult movie fan. --Paul Gaita

5 out of 5 stars I'm Not Just Another Pretty Face!.......2007-08-07

I just recently saw this movie, which I consider one of the best creations ever to hit a tv screen. A couple of days ago, me and my friend went to a weird, underground video store (definitely not your normal blockbuster or Hollywood video) and I happened to finally come across The Toxic Avenger. I have looked for this movie at other video stores but was unsuccesful at finding it. This video store also carried atrocities such as Cannibal Holocaust, which I was very surprised to find.

Anyways, so I went back home, popped the DVD into my xbox 360 and watched the most brilliant movie ever created. First of all, this movie is pure cheese, but it was meant to be that way, so WAY TO GO TROMA!! The acting is so over the top that its just ridiculous, and this goes for the gore-fx as well. None of the characters are believable. They over-do it so bad that I think it takes talent to do so. The gore in the movie is alot more realistic than the acting. You'll get to see children's brains being run over by cars, dogs being shot, and much more. It is sick, but Jesus is it entertaining (and funny).

The biggest thing about this movie is the comedy, and it so funny I almost crapped my pants. Toxie is the funniest super-hero i've ever seen. He constantly growls, and he has the most hilarious one liners your ears have ever heard. Even for being mutated into a monster, he has the most normal voice out of everyone in the film. Everything that he did, from mopping people's faces to throwing an old lady into a drying machine, was 100% hilarious fun.

Overall, if you are ready to see an extremely gory cheesefest, then this movie is for you. This movie's taste is so foul and absurd that it is pure genius. I just don't know why all movies can't be like this. Go buy or rent it to see for yourselves.

4 out of 5 stars A superhero who kills his oppenents is the sickest ways possible.......2007-06-04

This movie is filled with all of the things you don't want your kids to see on TV. It also has a lot of stuff that nobody should ever see. A woman pleasures herself while looking at photos of a head being smashed by a car, a little girl gets a shotgun pointed at her head, and some characters drive down little kids for fun. I never thought I would laugh at an old woman getting beaten to death, but it is done in such a corny way. Even the dog getting shot got me to crack a smile. It starts out sick, but then they show a quick shot of the dog with his guts hanging out, but the dog's tongue is hanging out like he doesn't even notice what is going on. I don't know if they meant to show the dog alive happily breathing after it gets shot, but it was hilarious.

The story is about a nerdy young man who falls into toxic waste and turns into a big muscular toxic superhero. Nothing in this movie should work, but the overacting by everyone is truly a joy to watch. After seeing this cheesy masterpice, I can't wait to see the other Toxic Avenger movies.

    3.5/5

Picture quality is very good, and this is definitely the uncut version.

Special features include a commentary from Lloyd Kaufman, commentary from Mark Torgle on a couple of scenes, and a couple other fun things.

5 out of 5 stars i love the monster hero!!!.......2007-03-25

wow. the toxic avenger. what an amazing freaking movie! if there is one film that defines 80's cinema, i feel that its the toxic avenger. the film is about a nerd janitor named melvin who is constantly harrased by everyone at the tromaville health club were he works. he receives the most torment from 4 hit and run drivers, one of whom tricks melvin into dressing in a tutu and meeting her at the pool were everyone is waiting to laugh at him. melvin is chased through the health club before jumping out a window and landing in a barrel of misplaced toxic waste. this transforms him into the toxic avenger or toxie for short. its now toxies job to fight crime in tromaville and get revenge on the 4 creeps who transformed him into a monster. the toxic avenger is a very, very entertaining film that althoughis full of violence and sensitive subject matter, is still very funny. the best parts of the film are toxies fights with the deranged criminals of tromaville. his first fight is against 3 drug dealers who are about to kill a cop. another cool fight scene is against 3 insane freaks robbing a fast food rersaurant. besides these 2 fight scenes, the rest of the film is wildly enjoyable. gore hounds will be pleased as toxie smashes heads, tears limbs, gouges eyes and rips out the guts of every sadistic criminal he comes across. one infamous scene is were the 4 hit and run drivers run over a young boys head. even though this scene is pretty intense and disturbing, its not done to disturb the audience and the rest of the films violence is done in an over the top fashion. if you havent seen the toxic avenger then trust me, you wont be dissapointed. my only complaint is that toxies revenge onthe 4 hit and run drivers should have been as gruesome as the rest of the films violence. they ran over a little kid and laughed about it! they should have been torn to peices, but they still get whats coming to em. the toxic avenger is one of my all time favorite films and i'm positive that once you see it you'll love it. get tromatized!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    5 out of 5 stars wonderfully funny.......2007-01-09

good for a long laugh.. watch late at night for best viewing. :-)

5 out of 5 stars AH HA HA!.......2006-12-14

when that helpless little boy on the biycle gets his head squashed like a melon I knew this was probably the greatest cinematic experience i'd ever have. And guess what? I was right! And Freud was right too. Sex & violence is what attracts people the most & this has a fairly nice balance of boobs & carnage. A+
