5 out of 5 stars Wow, This Is Based On Real Events...Oh, Wait, This Is A Work Of Fiction..........2007-09-11

What kept the Coen's most popular movie from being received as an unwelcoming study in selfish ambition was almost entirely the achievement of a brilliant performance by Frances McDormand, whose pregnant police officer character reached out to the audience as a likable voice of conscience among a multitude of otherwise alienating people. This story of a would-be harmless crime gone very wrong and all the deaths and ruined lives that resulted somehow gets toned down upon reception through the comedic counter-pointing of the climate, accents and culture of the upper Midwest and its people. It surprises me how many today remember the funny moments in this film and forget that it's really a dark production about awful human beings to whom loyalty is unknown, doing things most decent human beings would regard as unconscionable. Fargo falls somewhere between four and five stars, but I'll round up because I admire its originality. Oh, and by the way, the body lying in the snow outside the car the morning after the disturbingly realistic chase scene? That's none other than Minnesota native Prince. I don't know if that bit of trivia is commonly known but I thought I'd mention it.

5 out of 5 stars Greed paves the way for stupidity.......2007-08-04

Here it is. The American dream. The brain starts churning as different plans and elaborate schemes start to formulate on how to strike it rich. Fargo is a true story that belongs on "America's Dumbest Criminals" list.
A shady carsalesman, Jerry, conjours up the most outlandish and idiotic plan--have his own wife kidnapped and force the father-in-law to pay one million dollars in ransom. And oh boy, the story only gets crazier from there...
This whole ordeal was supposed to be a "no rough stuff sort of deal". Yeah right. Circumstances change drastically after a run-in with the law and some gruesome murders take place.
What really makes this movie so entertaining are the vast array of characters. Besides the foolish husband, you have the frantic wife, the brain-dead criminals, the pregnant cop, the tight-wad father-in-law, plus the lonely old friend who is a chronic liar. They all fumble along through the story causing lots of shock, laughter, and drama that will make your head spin.
One final thing that I really enjoy about this movie is the vernacular of the people in Minnesoooota. So, is this a movie worth watching?...
Ooohhhh....you betcha ya!

5 out of 5 stars Fargo.......2007-07-12

The Coen Brothers' crowning achievement, this twisted black comedy convulses us one minute, horrifies us the next. While satirizing the distinctive accents and conventions of North Dakotans, the movie's gruesome crime gone awry places us squarely in the lower depths of depravity. Only the Coens could take us there and bring us back so entertainingly. Macy is superb as the pathetic, cornered Jerry, Buscemi never better as a low-life kidnapper. But McDormand steals the picture as unflappable trooper Marge. No surprise that she (and the picture) took home Oscars.

5 out of 5 stars A true modern-day Greek tragedy.......2007-05-23

As is true in any Greek tragedy, in the opening frames of this movie, the viewer witnesses a scene in which all events have already been set in motion that will lead inevitably to the full unfolding of tragedy -- the outcome being fore-ordained by character flaws in the protagonist.

The only other recent film that comes close to capturing this essence of tragedy was "Crimes and Misdemeanors" by Woody Allen.

Watch the opening credits scene of Fargo closely, as an empty white screen gradually reveals its details. Everything you need to know about what will transpire unfolds in that scene, before a single line of dialogue is spoken.

A great, timeless movie.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect.......2007-05-08

After viewing this film I happened to be speaking to my brother, who is 8 years older and several light years removed from me culturally. He mentioned that he had seen a "perfect" movie, and without inquiring further I mentioned "Fargo" as a likely candidate for that lofty description.
Yes, it was this same "perfect" movie he was referring to.
There are NO false notes in the casting, acting, dialogue, cinematography, or point of view. This is a marvelous example of how to tell a story on film. I have watched it many times and it always entertains.
Perfect...

This tongue-in-cheek 1970 variation on The Dirty Dozen looks less fresh than it did in the year of its release, but it still has some enjoyable moments. Clint Eastwood stars along with Donald Sutherland, Harry Dean Stanton, Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, Carroll O'Connor, and Gavin MacLeod in the story of American soldiers who try to steal gold behind enemy lines in World War II. Sutherland's hippie G.I. doesn't have the sardonic and timely appeal he did during the Vietnam War, but the film's irreverence and several of the performances are worth a visit. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Inspired Madness - with a ring of truth.......2007-07-07

Others (many others) have described why this movie is a keeper, so here's my 2 cents. Sutherland's stoned tank commander, O'Connor's glory-hound general, Rickles' wheeler-dealer: the major and minor characters that could be and were thrown together in war, combined with the very real situations they encounter, make this film believable - sceptics not withstanding - and more than just a major war commedy. It has enough of a 'ring of truth' about it I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn some day that it DID happen...

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie.......2007-06-12

Outstanding - - Clint Eastwood & many stars make this an enjoyable movie.

5 out of 5 stars Kelly's Heroes.......2007-05-06

Clint Eastwood has always been a favorite of mine and his protrayal
of the enterprising fighting soldier is standard of his image as
top quality movie star. The product is good with great color and
sound.

Thanks

5 out of 5 stars I still love this movie.......2007-04-04

I first saw this movie when I was a kid and was just a WWII buff. I can honestly say, though, that since then I will make a point to watch it whenever I see it. While it is not high art by any stretch, it is an eminently watchable movie that is well paced and has iconic characters you'll remember well after you see the movie (who could forget Oddball). In fact, I'm going to go watch it right now...

Clint Eastwood's 1978 comedy introduces Filo Beddoe, a truck driver and mechanic whose daily life is an absurd grind. He's constantly coming up short on money, love, and anything else to help him get through the day, while also saddled with a loony mother (deliciously played by Ruth Gordon), a best friend (Geoffrey Lewis) who's not too swift on the uptake, and an orangutan named Clyde who fights almost as well as Clint. While moonlighting as a bare-knuckle fighter, Clint finally meets the girl of his dreams (Sondra Locke), a snooty country singer who rebuffs him even as he pursues her, trailed by bikers and brawlers. It's Eastwood's magnetism and charm that make this more than a mere string of comic sketches, and things move along quickly enough to be entertaining, if a little thin. Clyde is a natural scene-stealer, but it's Ruth Gordon's crazy, cranky old coot who steals the movie. --Robert Lane

4 out of 5 stars Clint ventures into slapstick.......2007-01-15

I recommend this movie for anyone needing a good laugh. Real "3 Stooges"-style slapstick comedy-a rare departure for Eastwood, whose recent films have gone too far into "serious". Also great for country music fans-cameos from several major stars, and a surprisingly good musical performance by co-star Sondra Locke. This one is pure entertainment, so suspend your "critical" faculties and enjoy!!!

Amazon.com essential video

Clint Eastwood (making his very assured directorial debut) is a poetry-spouting stud-muffin DJ stalked by a maniacally amorous fan after a misguided one-night stand in this enjoyably schlocky, undeniably effective film about good intentions gone murderously wacky. Although many of the very '70s trappings presented here may ultimately be too dated to be taken seriously (including a very self-indulgent jazz number and a hilariously gooey seduction number between Eastwood and Donna Mills), the core premise of infatuation taken out of bounds remains uncomfortably plausible--and was influential enough to be appropriated by one of the biggest hits of the '80s. (Here's a hint--it starred Michael Douglas, Glenn Close, and a very unfortunate bunny rabbit). A well-staged and occasionally very frightening thriller worth watching for Jessica Walter's peerlessly unhinged performance alone. Frequent Eastwood collaborator Don Siegel (director of Dirty Harry, Coogan's Bluff, and The Beguiled, to name but a few) has a nice cameo as Murphy, the mustachioed, chess-playing bartender. --Andrew Wright

5 out of 5 stars Clint Eastwood Classic!!!.......2007-09-11

This is a classic Clint Eastwood film. It is scary and suspenseful without all of the complex technical additions of today's suspense films. If you like suspense...and Clint Eastwood...get this movie!!!

4 out of 5 stars Play Misty For Me.......2007-05-07

Play Misty for Me A Good movie for an early 1970's suspense/thriller. By today's vstandards it would be considered "sappy and predictable". Clint Eastwood does a grat job playing a DJ in the early 1970's and Jessica Walter does a great job of playing an obseesed stalker.

Good movie if you want to see Clint Eastwood play something other than a cop or cowboy.

5 out of 5 stars The Originals Are Always the Best........2007-04-02

In an age when Hollywood can seem to do nothing original, and the Silver Screen is awash with remakes, it's nice to go back and revisit the artistry of which the film industry has made hash.

A tense psychological thriller, Play Misty for Me is the template from which the likes of Fatal Attraction sprang.

Clint Eastwood plays a terminally cool yet sensitive late night jazz DJ who, while estranged from girlfriend Donna Mills, has a one night stand with Jessica Walter.

As her obsession grows, her violent emotions manifest themselves first against herself in a manipulative suicide attempt, and then against the others in Eastwood's life.

Edgy, hard, and oh, so seventies, the tension ramps smoothly with Walter's character's escalating psychosis until the final scene where bloodied and exhausted, a single punch to the face sends Walter through a french door, and over the edge of a terrace to fall to the cold Pacific below.

Clint Eastwood as actor and director does a good job of making the characters believable and sympathetic. Bravo.

Jim Bob says - Spend the money; it's worth a night in a darkened living room with a bowl of popcorn, wondering whether or not your ex-girlfriend really meant what she said when you dumped her.

4 out of 5 stars An oldie - but a GOODIE!.......2007-02-06

Good "stalker" flick. Forerunner of Basic Instinct. This movie is really
"dated" in terms of dress & hair & music, but it is worth viewing for the performances of the young Clint Eastwood, Jessica Walter and Donna Mills.
This is one of my all-time favorite "rainy afternoon" movies!

4 out of 5 stars Wears well.......2007-01-10

I first saw this movie on release as a teenager, and thought it was a great scary movie. The main reason I bought it now was to get a hold of the great Jerry Mulligan soundtrack. The whole family have enjoyed the film now, and leaving out the 70's gear and hairstyles, its a great thriller.

Description

Atten-hut! Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin lead these tales of combat that mix firepower with tongue-in-cheek attitude. Eastwood's misfit troops are in the army and in the money when they slip behind enemy lines to steal Nazi gold. Donald Sutherland, Telly Savalas and Don Rickles are among the larcenous heroes in Kelly's Heroes [Side A]. The Dirty Dozen [Side B] is the influential granddaddy of hard-hitting ensemble action flicks, a tale of jailed losers volunteered in the army way for a suicide mission. Marvin plays the tough-as-nails major who bullies his squad (Charles Bronson, Jim Brown, Sutherland, Savalas and more) into a fighting unit that can win this war any of a dozen ways. Fall in for action!

4 out of 5 stars Twice the action.......2007-09-16

The double feature is a good value and plenty of action for any excitement addict. These are two movies with a twist and tongue in cheek. That is until the shooting begins. The action comes fast and furious against the dreaded Germans. One is a treasure hunt and the other a suicide mission. You have to be a little patriotic to care what happens to these misfits. But the plots are agreeable and the acting passable. It takes a leap of faith to think these things could really happen. But once you suspend disbelief you can sit back and enjoy yourself. From the grit to the graft you get every possible angle in this double feature. If you are a war buff this is a good addition to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Best Two WWII you can get!.......2007-09-13

These two flicks are some of the best World Warr II flicks out there. Yes they are from the 70s so they are aiming for the same type of realism you find today, but they are a perfect balance of awesome action, engaging humor, and political commentary. They aren't preachy or overly dramatic, nor are they mindless explosions. They are just plain fun entertainment. And the fact this is a double feature... WHY ARE YOU WAITING?! BUY THIS NOW!!

2 out of 5 stars Great Movies Second Rate Sales Gimmick.......2007-08-27

Both of these movies are great, fun and classics. I have no problem with either. They still hold up as good movies. I agree with the other reviewer who made comments about the packaging and the 'double feature' sales gimmick. It is a good idea. Two great old movies back to back for a modest price. When I saw the Turner Classic opening for Dirty Dozen I thought, "what did they do? Just copy this off of TV?"

The movies rock? The double feature concept is cool. Just wish they would have put a little more into it and gave us something extra like a 'making of' or maybe some new interviews.

5 out of 5 stars 2 of the Best.......2007-08-24

2 of my favorite "war ain't so bad flick's". If you want realism look else where. If you just want good adventure this is it. A full evenings entertainment on 1 disc.

1 out of 5 stars Deceptive Packaging.......2007-06-05

I already own both films but purchased this as the case described "Dirty Dozen" as being a 16x9 transfer. It is not. Further, special features are listed for this film that are not actually on the disc. I knew I was in trouble when the film began with the Turner logo. Old transfer. "Kelly's Heroes" IS 16x9 as it was on the single feature release.

In addition, it appears the newly repackaged "How the West Was Won" suffers from the same deceptive packaging by being labeled "enhanced for widescreen TVs" when it is not and is also an old Turner master.

People are bound to complain so it's hard to believe Warner Home Video, previously very reliable, would do this intentionally. Something is defintely wrong in their QC department these days.

Not many Westerns can claim to be original. Seven Men from Now can. Its making, for the B-picture arm of John Wayne's Batjac company, was a modest enterprise. The screenwriter, Burt Kennedy, was just starting out; the director, Budd Boetticher, was a matador-turned-filmmaker with only one film of distinction (The Bullfighter and the Lady) in a journeyman career; the star, Randolph Scott, was regarded as "over the hill." Yet the three men's talents blended uncannily, producing not just a terrific Western but a cinema masterpiece--an ironical, beautifully spare bit of storytelling that became the ideal showcase for Scott's sandy reticence.

You don't want anybody synopsizing the story for you; there's little of it, really, yet how it's told makes it complex and compelling. We know, from a memorable first scene, that Scott is hunting down seven men who did something terrible. He will be thrown together with several other characters, including Lee Marvin as an affable but deadly rascal with whom he shares some history. Everybody has private reasons to be traveling through Apache country. Savor every syllable of the laconic dialogue, what people say and what they don't quite say--what they think they understand about one another's motives, except that that understanding keeps getting rearranged.

Seven Men from Now went missing after Wayne's death in 1979 threw the Batjac library into limbo. (Its success had inspired Scott, Boetticher, and Kennedy to collaborate on three other remarkable Westerns--The Tall T (1957), Ride Lonesome (1959), and Comanche Station (1960)--which, because they weren't made for Batjac, we've had little trouble seeing over the years.) The movie became legendary, a Holy Grail for film buffs. Now, with a beautiful restoration on DVD, it gets to be a movie again. A great one. --Richard T. Jameson

5 out of 5 stars Still Delivering The Goods.......2007-09-13

Last night I sat and watched SEVEN MEN FROM NOW. Just been released after a long absence. Randolph Scott, always good. Very stoic hero, with little to say but a good screen presence. Lee Marvin, playing his usual tricky character. Other bad guy was John Larch. The female character was played by Gail Russell. Very understated performance by a very attractive actress. Scott played his usual character of a man on a quest for vengeance against the men who killed his wife during a robbery.

Script was by Burt Kennedy. A good, literate script with some telling lines. Directed by Budd Boetticher. Some fabulous scenery. Desert and semi-mountain backgrounds. By contrast some lush locations too. Flawless photography.

Made in 1956. It runs for 78 minutes, but every one of those short minutes is worth it.

I'd spent a busy afternoon at the keyboard, so mug of coffee in hand I settled down and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. A great way to unwind. Highly recommended. This is how a Western should be made.

4 out of 5 stars Formula Deluxe.......2007-08-22

There's something to be said for tweaking the formula jest a tad. This Western has the usual characters -- an ex-sheriff on the hunt, scoundrels, killers, a pretty woman and her naive husband. The usual settings -- on the dusty trail, saloons, muddy streets, rocky canyons. And motives -- vengeance, greed. But the writer Burt Kennedy changed things around so I could not manage to predict anything but the ultimate outcome. Packaged with fine visuals by director Budd Boetticher and crew, that makes me one happy viewer.

Randolph Scott takes John Wayne's place in this Wayne production and I much prefer him. While limited in range, he's a better actor. He just doesn't have Wayne's outsized persona. Wayne would win in the end because that's what Wayne the Icon was 'posed to do. Scott would win because that's what his character would do.

Gail Russell was an affecting presence in a couple ways. It was sad to see how much she aged (she was only about 32 years old), and to realize that in about 5 years she would be gone. She retained some of her prettiness and gained as an actress, giving her character warmth, intelligence and grace.

And there was a gen-nu-wine thief in the cast -- a stealer of scenes. He was the young Lee Marvin. Without Wayne's potbelly to contend with, Marvin's deep voice, cocky manner and looming size pretty much let him have his way with the film. It wouldn't have been as good without him.

The film isn't as great as I expected it to be based on the rumors. But it IS a long lost gem.

5 out of 5 stars Yep, a humdinger of a western.......2007-08-07

Don't read a synopsis of this film. Just see it, with its unexpected twists and turns. The ending reminds me very much of the story-ending duel between Gary Cooper and Burt Lancaster in "Vera Cruz", which came out just a couple of years before this one.

5 out of 5 stars "You Move Like You're All Over Alive".......2007-07-09

One of the greatest lines ever uttered in a western (see title above), was delivered from Lee Marvin to Gail Russell, and is reason enough to purchase what is easily the best of the Boetticher-Scott westerns. This single four minute scene, shot inside a covered wagon with a rain storm intervening in the background, contains argubly the best acting by either Randolph Scott, Lee Marvin, or Gail Russell ever captured on film. Of course, Boetticher's direction deserves credit, but Lee Marvin's persistence, Randolph Scott's stoic nervousness, and Gail Russell's absolutely incredible body language, combine to take the film to another level in a quick four minutes. The fact that the rest of the movie is also fantastic is simply icing on the cake. In the same scene shot inside the wagon train, while Marvin continues his useless pursuit of Russell by goading Scott about his past, Scott delivers one of his best lines ever in a sharp retort to Marvin: "Seems there aint' nobody don't remind you of somebody tonight". Lee Marvin's reply, simply, "Seems that way, don't it". Enough said, Seven Men From Now is right up there with "The Westerner"; one of the best of the genre.

4 out of 5 stars "I bet you're a big Lee Marvin fan. Me too, I love that Guy.".......2007-06-16

A stolid hero in a tight, B Western about revenge. But Lee Marvin as the cool second lead is completely mesmerizing. What he's doing is so dynamic, that you have to give credit to the star and director for letting him steal the movie. He's as good here as he ever was in his star roles.

Guilty pleasures don't come more guilty than The A-Team, television's only tongue-in-cheek drama about the exploits of renegade Vietnam vets. The primetime series' 1983 debut season, gathered here on The A-Team: Season One, was intentionally ludicrous, encouraging viewers to enjoy sundry talents of a colorful cast and laugh off storylines perhaps sillier than those on Charlie's Angels. Co-created by Stephen J. Cannell (Wiseguy) and Frank Lupo (Hunter), The A-Team introduced Lt. Col. John "Hannibal" Smith (George Peppard), the cocksure leader of a band of fugitive American soldiers framed for a crime in Vietnam and now thriving in Los Angeles. Hiring themselves out as soldiers of fortune, Hannibal's crew--including Lt. Templeton "Face" Peck (baby-faced Tim Dunigan in the pilot, Dirk Benedict thereafter), Sgt. Bosco Albert "B.A. (for 'Bad Attitude')" Baracus (Mr. T, outfitted with his trademark gold), and, most comically, Capt. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock (Dwight Schultz)--assist (mostly) ordinary people having a problem with bad guys. The A-Team ostensibly charges large fees, but much of the time the guys seem to be doing pro bono work for the helpless.

Season One highlights include "Children of Jamestown," starring John Saxon as a Jim Jones-like religious cult leader who captures Hannibal, Face, B.A., and first-season sidekick Amy "Triple A" Allen (Melinda Culea). While the resourceful group invents a super-weapon out of farm equipment, crazy Murdock commandeers a helicopter and dynamite. Also good is "A Small and Deadly War," featuring Dean Stockwell as one of several uncontrolled L.A. cops committing murder-for-hire. "The Out-of-Towners" takes a page from the Death Wish movie series with a story about New York City shop owners harassed by a protection racketeer (Yaphet Kotto). Hannibal and company retaliate with machine guns (no one is ever seen killed in this series) and, more effectively, public humiliation of the villain. The best thing about The A-Team is the relationship between the four offbeat heroes, who may not always like each other (B.A. usually looks as if he'd like to leave Murdock in a shallow grave) but get the job done expertly. --Tom Keogh

    5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2007-07-21

i watched the a-team when i was around 5,when it reruned here in norway in the 90's, the quality of video is good to be a 80's show, audio is good to, dont expect HD quality, but it do look good on a 40" 1080p HDTV, the menu is a nice tuch, to bad it has little real bonuses, like comentary etc, the package the dvds are in, i do not like, they have put all of dvds in it and you have to take of a plastic cover, and roll it out both ways, but other than that the DVD build quality was better than Season Two's because they used DVD9 not DVD18, also Dual Layer (8GB) but not dual sided (2x8GB both sides)

5 out of 5 stars Great fun for the whole family........2007-07-17

Must see TV, way before the phrase became household. The A-Team: Season One is a wholesome creative show that was unique and entertaining. Every episode is packed full of action although it lacked in special features, the pilot episode was included. A real treat, makes a great birthday gift.

5 out of 5 stars Where It All Begins.......2007-04-05

Brings back great childhood memories. Fun seeing it through the lens of experience. Definitely need to suspend all critical faculties. If you do, Murdock is still as hilarious as ever--he wants to get out of asylum to "see E.T. just like everybody else." Hannibal is still "on the jazz," B.A. pities the fool, and Face's cheesy wise-guy comments seem clever.

Season one shows where it all begins, and why the A-Team is on the run. There's a different Face in the pilot--Dirk Benedict doesn't start until the second episode. The pilot features the introductory scenes used at the beginning of each episode.

It was funny reading some background on the actors on the Net. Apparently George Peppard (Hannibal) was jealous that Mr. T was most popular among viewers. Dwight Schultz (Murdock) has a blog on the Net--reading it, you wonder if the guy really is nuts.

1 out of 5 stars funny if you are a preadolescent...........2007-03-24

I was 10 in the early 80's. At that time, Simon and Magnum were thursday night treats. People were actually shot in helping to take out villains and there was substance to those 2 shows. However, the A-Team was Cannell's defanged action show involving Nam vets who run from the government and anonymously help "clients." No one is ever shot despite tons of crashes and bullets. I was huge Hazzard fan and thought that show had more intellect and thought than the A-Team from a 10 year old mind at the time. Shows like the A-Team killed the best era of tv in the 70's and early 80's (Rockford, Starsky and Hutch, Magnum, Simon and Simon, etc) and subjected us to post PI and police creampuff hits like Cosby, Full House, etc. Here's an 80's analogy. Those 4 shows were to Judas Priest in metals prime, and A-Team was Poison who defanged and killed metal. If anyone prefers A-Team to those 4 shows, you probably preferred Winger to Judas Priest.

5 out of 5 stars A PLAN COMES TOGETHER WITH "THE A-TEAM: SEASON ONE!".......2007-03-20

"The A-Team" is one of the greatest shows to come out of the 1980's. With its clever mix of great action, humor, and writing, the show was always great fun. Now, with season one of the show available on DVD, you can see the adventures from the very beginning. The two-hour premiere episode, "Mexican Slayride," is a great beginning, despite the fact that the guy playing Face is horrible in the role (Thank God this guy was replaced). Other standout episodes include "A Small and Deadly War," "Black Day at Bad Rock," and the season finale "A Nice Place to Visit," which partially serves as a tribute to the men who served in Vietnam.
While the picture is a bit grainy, it does little to detract from this great collection! If you're a fan of the show, or new to the series, then check out "The A-Team: Season One" on DVD. As Mr. T would say, you'll "have the jazz" when you do!

    4 out of 5 stars AN O.K. FINISH!.......2007-03-31

With "The A-Team: Season Five - The Final Season" on DVD, you can enjoy the final thirteen episodes of one of television's greatest action shows. However, this was definitely the worst season of the show. This doesn't mean that the final season is horrible, but it's nowhere near as good as it had been in previous seasons. The format of the final season is drastically different. The tone of the show is dark this time around, and even the humor cannot hide this fact. Even the season's best episode, "The Say U.N.C.L.E. Affair," is very dark, and has one of the few instances of a character actually dying ON camera.
The whole idea of the A-Team working for a top-secret organization within the U.S. government never really works. The Stockwell character is useless for the most part, and Frankie Santana is one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen on a T.V. show. But still, there were some good episodes, such as "Trial by Fire" (which features one of the greatest Murdock moments ever), the aforementioned "Say U.N.C.L.E. Affair," and the exciting, hilarious penultimate episode of the show, "The Grey Team." Overall, this was a decent ending to one of television's greatest shows. Fans of the show will enjoy it.

Not as good as the other seasons. The team is legal now and works for the gov't. It loses some of the fun. Still entertaining for the fans.

I bought this item as a gift for my husband, who is a Mr. T fan. I am a Star Trek fan so I like seeing "Howling Mad" Murdock. Of course this show is completely silly and meaningless, but that's part of what is so fun about it.

4 out of 5 stars Review Season Five of A-Teeam.......2007-01-11

The A-Team was a cartoon of sorts. Few people died, and few were injured from the thousands of rounds of ammo used each show. It morphed many times. Original show had a female member. She was removed to make it more 'macho.' Then, by the end of the fourth season, someone thought it would be a good idea to have the guys work for the government. General Stockwell I understood, but not Dishpan Samtana. The show suffered and died. Only real regret is that that a 'final show,' was not done with the official pardons given. Two shows that Dirk Benedict starred that did not get a final wrap. A-Team and Battlestar Gallactica.

We love the A-Team! We enjoy the chemistry and the idiocyncracies of the characters, the silly plots, car chases and explosions. Just good old family fun. These are dvd's that the whole family can watch, no blood, and really not much violence, nobody gets killed, the good guys win in the end, and it's great entertainment!

Again Universal Studios has done it.Some episodes hasn't got preview some has sound effects missing and the menu episode summary has been ripped off as well the episode chapters. The season starts with a 2 hour premiere called Judgment Day.The rest of episodes are fun to watch and include some guest stars such Boy George,Hulk Hogan and others. The episode formula is always the same:the bad guys threatens the nice and innocent people, the A-Team is called and hired, then they move on the goons and finally their boss is beaten after the team is locked up in some warehouse with plently of tools and acetilene torch to make a Mcgyver style a weapon or defense.Of course noone is hurt and all the bullets never hit anyone. The show success is based on the chemistry between the characters and how they interact.Until fall the Fith and last season won't be released and I hope that a nice docummentary on the phenonmenon can be included.

Hello, all of you "A-Team"'ers out there :) I bought this set when Season 1 was released as a "blind-buy" purchase, having never seen this series when it aired in the 80's or in syndication (I know...hard to believe...:) ) I bought the set in memory of my Dad who watched this show after he was retired from his job. I remember laughing at Dad when he told me he never missed this show. Now, the laugh's on me :) I love this series! Amazing...plus I've had the cool experience of watching these eps for the 1st time on DVD. Currently, I'm viewing Season 3. Season 4's in the mail. I've heard some forum talk that Season 5 wasn't up to speed compared to the previous 4 seasons. So, I'm not certain I'll gamble on Season 5 yet. I haven't noticed any difference between S1 thru S3; I've loved every episode of the ones I've seen up to this point. Be that as it may, "The A-Team Rocks" :) (Hard to believe a "Baby Boomer" said that, right?) :)

If ridiculous banter, goofball plots, and many, many, many explosions sounds like the recipe for a perfect TV show to you--you must already be a fan of The A-Team. Each of these Vietnam vets on the lam had his specialty: Hannibal (cigar-chomping George Peppard, a long way from Breakfast at Tiffany's) is the cocksure master planner; Faceman (Dirk Benedict of the original Battlestar Galactica) is the smooth-talking con artist; the pilot with a screw loose is Murdock (Dwight Schultz, later to appear on Star Trek: Voyager); and B.A. Baracus (the charismatic and gold-encrusted Mr. T, Rocky III) is both mechanic and muscle. During the series' five year run, each of these eccentrics cultivated their own rabid fan-base as they threw punches, fired thousand of bullets, tossed hand grenades to and fro, and flipped speeding cars--all without killing or even really hurting anyone, which only adds to the show's willful silliness. (A warning for fans of reporter/sidekick Amy Allen, played by Melinda Culea: After being given nothing to do for a dozen or so testosterone-heavy episodes of the second season, Culea either quit or was fired.)

Only during the 1980s could this peculiar blend of lefty politics and military fetishism have thrived. Though supposedly mercenaries-for-hire, the A-Team usually finds itself defending the downtrodden and helpless out of sheer cussedness. In the second season they helped abused migrant workers form a union--which, naturally, required transmogrifying farm equipment into a cabbage-shooting cannon. Other underdogs included the disenfranchised heir to an African diamond mine; an independent cab company being squeezed by big business; and a pacifist commune harassed by bigots. The last of these prompted Hannibal to muse ponderously on the unappreciated role of the soldier, who fights so others don't have to--after which Murdock and B.A. began punching each other over a bag of pecans. Self-aware and self-mocking, The A-Team pushed the TV action/adventure genre to laughable extremes. --Bret Fetzer

    The A-Team--Season Two Trivia
    • In this season, Amy is no longer part of the A-Team. There's no explanation as to why.
    • One episode this season sees the title sequence featuring the Cylon from Battlestar Galatica (as well being in this episode) for the first time. This is an in-joke, as Dirk Benedict played Starbuck in that series.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Season dos!.......2007-07-18

Refried and served with an extra layer of cream. Season Two, picks up the pace and retains the wholesome zeal of season one.

3 out of 5 stars Deadly maneuvers .......2007-07-08

This episode was not a highlight of the second season. It was the A team meets themselves the B team and then wins the fistfight. Role credits. It was one would guess about time someone would gang up on main heroes. A mercenary is hired. Hired a million dollars per A Team member to remove them. Someone is getting milked when we get to see how bad a merceneary the hired guy is. The main gun is Ed Lauter, from a season one show. He is not a believable killer in any way. However, Melinda Culea's replacement Marla Heasley shows her believability in acting by doing a fine job of milking here part that has her taking pictures of some cows. Wonder why they let her go her at the end of the season. Just plain weaker than usual plod (no typo) that opens with Team supposedly in training. This was actually funny. They get picked off one by one by mercernearies which carries the suspense of a milk commerical. Hannibal is tougher and survives the spedative spiked milk, gets back on his horse with medical help to chew up the villains in an exciting fist fight finale. Pretty forgettable. The main characters all seemed somewhat muted. The one highlight was a gorgeous Tricia O'neil making another appearance as Doc Sullivan although they call her Maggie instead of Mo from the season 1 show. To bad she was in this so little. Too bad the writers could not have featured her as a more recurrung guest. Her backstory was vietnam medic and she would have fit in. (But then there was Peppards oft spoken penchant for feeling women had no major place in this kind of show). Both Lauter and O'neill were in the the Black Rock epsisode. At least there, Ed Lauter was believable and O'neill who is always great had not much more than seven or eight short lines.

On a trivia note, Barbara Stock from Spenser for Hire, Dallas, pops in as a seductive vixen.) Not one of this series stellar efforts.

5 out of 5 stars Best of the Best.......2006-11-11

This is one of the greatest shows ever. What makes it even greater is that every word is true.

5 out of 5 stars Great Packaging and Format of this Series.......2006-08-26

The product is made of 3 double Sided DVD's with the plots to all the episodes on the back of the DVD Package, which is very helpful for Knowing what each episode is about. I found Season two to be better than Season one in Show Quality. It is a must for any A-Team fan.
