Join Ernie at The Furry Arms Hotel for a musical lesson in just how useful counting can be. When Ernie finds and returns a misplaced key, he uses his knowledge of numbers to return the key to the correct guest. As Ernie begins to learn about the hotel business, he finds many common situations in which counting is essential. Throughout the 30-minute video, Ernie and his friends help children learn to count from 1 to 20 with such songs as the jazzy "That's How the Numbers Go," an original version of the Chorus Line show tune "One," and "Rap Song #11." Favorite Sesame Street characters Elmo and The Count are joined by new characters including Ding the Dinger, a furry fellow with a bell on his head, and Benny, the bellboy that responds to Ding the Dinger's dings. Children as young as 18 months will bounce happily along with the catchy tunes and 2-year-olds will be inspired to count aloud with Ernie. Kids up to age 5 will hone their counting skills and laugh at the increasingly frustrated Benny as he delivers everything from 1 bucket of ice to 15 stampeding elephants! If you're looking for a fun video that teaches counting skills, here it is. --Tami Horiuchi
Customer Reviews:
We're counting with Ernie!.......2007-09-06
My 22 month old daughter loves this dvd! It was a reward for using the potty multiple times. She absolutely loves it and loves to count going up stairs, counts her toys in her crib, counts in the car! Great investment!
does not model polite behavior.......2007-09-04
I loved Sesame street growing up, but Sesame street as a whole seems to be going downhill to me. This video, while it does have a couple of great vintage clips, models HORRIBLY rude and disobedient behavior. The bunny is extremly rude to Ernie and the Honker, and Ernie and the Honker repeatedly bother and annoy Benny, even after Benny asks them to stop (and of course, asks in a rude way). The educational value is minimal. I really don't think this helped my child to count to 15 or to recognize his numbers. If you want some good vintage Sesame STreet clips, check out the 25th anniversary. Good clips, educational value is about the same, but no rude behavior, and no disobedient behavior.
great for toddlers.......2007-08-21
it's just got heart and soul. do you want to watch a slideshow of electronic toys with Mozart soullessly sequenced on synthesized marimbas, or do you want to watch real characters singing genuinely clever lyrics teaching the same stuff.
I Can't Beleive All The Positive Reviews!.......2007-07-28
This DVD is just plain terrible. There is so much shouting and rude behaviour. In the video, Ernie continues to annoy the bunny even after the bunny has asked him to stop. This video will teach your children to be cheeky and annoying. Avoid it.
Dance and count to the beat!.......2007-07-27
My 18-month old twin boys LOVE Ernie. We found this DVD at our local library. Well, this is one video you can enjoy listening to. I also choose the 'Songs' option which is much easier for younger toddlers to follow. (Therefore, it's on the top of my purchase list)
Thumbs up!

Rated VP- Very Pretty.......2007-09-10
The BB Collection is a general overview of Ms. Bardot's Body of work from the mid 1950's to the late 1960's. We can see a young but ingenous starlet mature into a compitent actress over the years. She steals the show in several otherwise mediocre films. The video quality varies from film to film so don't expect much, from poor to fair, compared to todays crisper lines and more realistic coloring. Audio quality is often quite poor. The writing and storylines are of course dated, present day expectations are to be left for comparison only, anyone expecting modern scenarios or production values will be sorely disappointed.
For historical value I give this choice a 5, for overall quality a 3, Remember these are not Bridget Bardot's better films. The story value I would give a 2, I have seen similar films that hold interest better, the films as a vehicle for Bidget is the primary draw. For younger viewers, many of these films were rather risque when they were released, though tame by today's standards. They do show an interesting evolution in cinema, and in one actresses career.
a legend rediscovered.......2007-08-17
A great Bardot set for both those who've seen her best known films and those looking for an introduction to one of the great sex symbols of all time. Films in this set are some lesser known ones but selected from all eras of her career to give a great overview.
all films appear newly remastered - pristine prints. All panavision films presented widescreen. Includes a documentary on the Bardot phenomenon called, "Brigitte Bardot: Larger Than Life" that covers the range of her life and career including the films she made with the French New Wave. Includes interviews with Hugh Hefner and a few French film experts.
five films in the set include:
NAUGHTY GIRL (1956)co-written by Bardot's husband/svengali - Vadim just a year before her breakthrough hit "And God Created Woman". Fun romp with Bardot in her early gamin look. Color/ widescreen
COME DANCE WITH ME (1959) - wild mix of genres from gangster film to musical to sex comedy. Plus you get to see Bardot dance which is a treat in and of itself. color
LOVE ON A PILLOW (1962) - co-written and directed by Vadim. Taken from biographical elements of Bardot's life. A man tries to commit suicide and is helped in his recovery by Bardot. Co-starring Robert Hossein. Good early Vadim film. More dramatic role for Bardot like her roles in COntempt and The Truth. color/widescreen
TWO WEEKS IN SEPTEMBER (1967) - Swinging London in the late 60's. Great print with wonderful colors. Cool shots of London, underground clubs and a very sexy Bardot in her more familiar blonde bomshell look. Color/widescreen
THE VIXEN (1969) - Bardot helps a writer get through his writer's block as only she knows how to do. Toward the end of her career but Bardot still looks fantastic. And shows a more mature comedic talent. color
Several of these films were released in 2000 from Anchor Bay. But this set includes better prints and nice supplemental material. A good addition for the foreign cinephile's library.

It's not exactly Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, but this 1998 entry, starring Vanessa Williams and newcomer Chayanne offers its own terpsichorean pleasures. The story centers on Rafael Infante (Chayanne), a Cuban émigré to Texas, where he takes a menial job at a local dance studio run by John Burnett (Kris Kristofferson). There, he falls for Ruby Sinclair (Vanessa Williams), a one-time ballroom championship contender looking for the opportunity to compete for the title once more. The romance seems a foregone conclusion but has some snap thanks to a crisp performance by Williams and a sunny (if limited) one by Chayanne, a singing star in Puerto Rico. Best of all is the dancing itself. In terms of both energy, exuberance, and style, this film's dance sequences rank with the best of the decade's limited celebration of the kinetic art, such as Strictly Ballroom and Shall We Dance. Though the movie's central plot secret seems obvious from the first downbeat, the film takes off every time the dance music kicks in. --Marshall Fine
Customer Reviews:
Boring Cliche.......2007-08-08
I was invited by my friend's mom and sister to watch this movie. To be polite, I had no choice but to sit down and watch the whole thing and pretend that I enjoyed it. It might be great for people who like dancing movies, but to me, every minute of it was torture.
You can guess what happens. Just like in every other dance movie that has ever been made, an unlikely dance couple is thrust into each other's arms. They must defy all odds and learn how to dance like the wind and somehow achieve glory in some "highly touted" dance competition. Woopty do.
Guys, if you are thinking about renting a chick flick to impress your significant other and are considering "Dance with Me," let me tell you, this one should definitely be avoided. There are other "light romantic comedies" out there that are much more bearable than this one.
Awesome.......2007-03-15
I was impress with Venessa Williams, that lady can dance. The movie was great and I like Chayanne. The movie was fast pace and the story line was great.
Wonderful.......2007-03-11
This is my favorite movie in the whole world.I had it on VHS and I played it so much it broke. So the best thing I did was get it on DVD.This movie is funny but yet romantic.
I LOVE CHAYANNE!.......2007-02-07
I'm a big fan of Chayanne! and if you are a fan too you should defenetely buy this movie! I just love the way he dances and also Vanessa Williams did an excellent job I admire her for her dancing skills they are amazing!!!! I wish i can dance like her! Great movie to watch makes you want to go to a dance studio and learn how to really dance salsa!
I've seen it but I didn't buy it!.......2007-01-21
Don't know how this is shown as a purchase because I didn't buy it however, I did see! I enjoy some movies where they learn the dance steps and watch as they progress and I do enjoy them. If you think it is easy just try it. I'll see a step like in the movie Cadence with Charlie Sheen and get up and try the step...Did it! Just fun stuff and some of these moves are a challenge.

Description
One of the greatest comedy teams of all time keeps one step ahead of the law and the criminals in this wild and wacky farce. Abbott and Costello, together for the last time, prove they're still on first with rapid-fire timing and gags galore! All Lou Henry (Costello) wants is a happy life with his two adopted children and to run Kiddyland, the local amusement park. But the local welfare board thinks he's an unfit father, and is determined to take the children away! To make things worse, his friend Bud (Abbott), always up to his eyes in gambling debt, has now run afoul of the mob and needs Lou's help. Can Bud and Lou get back on the merry-go-round, or will they end up in a real shooting gallery?
Customer Reviews:
A&C Meet The Mob.......2007-02-23
That should have been a subtitle title for Dance With Me Henry. While it's not their best work, a complicated plot which gets more complicated as it goes along, Henry is enjoyable if you like mob films. This represents a change in the direction of A&C films, with Lou playing Lou Henry, a play-it-straight, intelligent proprietor of Kiddyland amusement park. All he wants is to keep the Welfare Board from declaring him an unfit parent and take away his two adopted children. Bud plays Bud Flick, the semi-shady friend of Henry, who runs up a $20,000 gambling debt and gets in hot water with the mob. Flick uses Henry's generosity and friendship to bail himself out, with disastrous results, even leading to Lou being wrongly arrested for the murder of the D.A.
As this was to be their last film together, the change in character was used to try something new. While Henry will often remind the viewer of a 1950s mafia film, such as The Untouchables, there are plenty of laughs along the way. For instance, the very last chaotic scene in the amusement park contains plenty of slapstick humor. Also, the slick talking Flick manages to confuse Costello into disagreeable situations, as in many of their earlier films. Granted this is an atypical A&C movie, but any A&C fan will appreciate the boys' work here. As with other atypical A&C films, such as Time of Their Lives and Little Giant, Dance With Me Henry includes some of their most creative work.
A SAD,SAD FINAL FILM.......2007-01-15
ABBOTT & COESTELLO'S LAST FILM AS A COMEDY TEAM "DANCE WITH ME HENRY",IS
A SAD FINAL ENTRY. I BOUGHT THIS FILM ALLREADY KNOWING THAT THIS IS FAR
FROM EVER BEING A CLASSIC,BUT I AM A COLLECTOR AND A FAN OF THE OLD COMEDY
TEAMS OF YESTERYEARS.THIS FILM IS A MUST FOR ANY SERIOUS FAN.SURPRISINGLY
A BIG MAJORITY OF BUD & LOU'S FILM HISTORY IS AVAILABLE ON DVD,WHERE AS
OTHER GREAT COMEDY TEAMS ARE HARD TO LOCATE AND IT IS VERY RARE TO COMPLETE AN ENTIRE COLLECTION."DANCE WITH ME HENRY",FAILS TO DELIVER SEN-
TIMENT OR COMEDY,BUD & LOU LOOK TIRED AND BOTH OF THEM CRAWL FROM ONE
SCENE TO ANOTHER.IN MY OPION THE DIRECTOR HAD NO SENSE OF CONNECTION ON
HOW TOO CONSTRUCT A FILM.BUT ALSO BUD & LOU SEEM UNCARING,THEY REALLY
DON'T TRY TO LIFT THE HEAVIENESS OF A FILM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN LIGHT AND
LOOSE.EVEN UNDER POOR DIRECTION ABBOTT & COSTELLO COULD'VE SPARKED SOME
ENERGY INTO THEIR SWANSONG.
Final film, better than many of A/C's .......2006-12-23
Here was another chance for Lou Costello to show his acting talents - a prior effort, The Time Of Their Lives - was also an impressive performance. Too bad he never got to play Mayor LaGuardia on film, as I've read. He's capable of generating much pathos, where an actor noted for frantic slapstick might exaggerate, or be overly sentimental. His role as the proprietor of "Kiddyland", a nearby amusement park convenient to the kids he's taken in, to the concern of a local social worker, gives him room to show what he can do. His buddy Bud is also effective, in a more, shall we say "humbling role", compared to the affable con-man he usually plays.
What's really wrong in this oddball but fun affair is the ill-conceived, overdrawn plot involving Bud's gambling habits and his less than honorable cohorts who occasionally supply his funding. The mix of kids and crooks is at times very awkward - in fact there's a very bizarre scene in which a young girl witnesses a murder at the park, later to be questioned. The victim is the actor who played the Inspector on "The Adventures Of Superman" TV series, interestingly enough, also directed by Charles Barton. It was very poor scripting not to provide for this character to appear at the end, recovered from the gunshot.
I enjoyed the use of the 1950s classic, "Dance With Me, Henry" (of course based upon the slightly risque "Work With Me Annie" by Hank Ballard And The Midnighters); theres a nice scene where the children dance to the General Audience version at Kiddyland when the bad guys are vanquished.
Interesting to say the least.......2005-07-09
Their last film, uses the team in non-comedic team roles. Not the first time, but it really stands out here. For an A&C fan, worth looking to see the changes that they went through as a team and all. Mostly this is a Lou vehicle, worth a look, but certainly not a classic.
Not their funniest, nor worst, but appropriate final film........2005-06-18
Dance With Me, Henry was the last film the great comedy team of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello made together, and far from their worst. Costello is the proprietor of Kiddyland, an amusement park, an appropriate character for his child like comedy style. Abbott is his gambling partner.
The main part of the plot concerns crooks Abbott is indebted to, but there's a subplot about orphans and Costello losing custody of his kids due to a nosy, prim social worker played to perfection by the great character actress Mary Wickes (Who Done It?, On Moonlight Bay, Father Dowling Mysteries).
The supporting cast also includes former child star Gigi Perreau, Robert Shayne (who played Inspector Henderson on Superman) as the district attorney, and, as the Priest at the orphanage, Frank Wilcox, recognizable from numerous TV guest shots like Brewster on The Beverly Hillbillies, Wally's principal on Leave It To Beaver, and a judge on Perry Mason.
Much of the comedy in this one may seem hackneyed or aimed at children - such as the extensive chase through the amusement park at the end - but there is some good original comedy as well, such as when Lou, suspected of murdering the DA, is questioned by cops, and gradually through the long, intense interrogation, he breaks down each cop, one after another. Plus, it's the only A & C film with rock music, or at least Rythm & Blues.
Dance With Me Henry is an appropirate final film for the great team, with higher production values than many of their other later films, certainly far better than Africa Screams, for instance, but more memorable for the characters they play than for laughs.

Lacking only in instruction.......2007-09-13
My daughters love this Dance DVD. They try to copy the moves, we only wish there was actual dance instruction included. Fabulous for any family outside of China with Chinese children.
Great DVD, Highly recommended.......2007-08-30
My daughter Lily loves Dance & Learn with Mei Mei. She likes to dress up in her dance outfit and sing along to all the songs. She watches all of Mei Mei's videos--over and over again. They are instructive and entertaining. I highly recommend them all.
Cute, but low budget.......2007-02-05
My daughter loves this DVD, although I think I've learned the songs better than she has. There are times when the sound track is off which is rather distracting. And there are some of the songs where the little girls are wearing gobs of makeup - which I always find creepy. Very cute other than that.
Dance and Learn.......2007-01-19
Excellent video, was purchased as Christmas gift for my grand daughter. She is only 1 1/2 and enjoyed very much. She recently arrived from China and it fit her purpose very well.
It's too much.......2007-01-02
After reading the reviews, I was excited to purchase it for my 3 years old daughter. She seems to be excited about watching girls sing/dance but I think it's not formatted to learn. It's too long and too jumpy. This dvd (a whole hour)is all about singing and dancing but no dialogue. I don't find it educational at all.

Barney is back with a new generation of kid actors, a music video, and BJ in a tutu. Gone is the old treehouse; Barney and buddies now hang out in a hip refurbished caboose. First up is a lesson about reading in which books inspire the children to act out stories and write their own. In the second story, BJ doesn't want to dance ballet with his sister Baby Bop, until the kids explain that he can put his own spin on it--and take off the tutu. The reinvigorated dinosaur even mildly displays some urban flair when one girl dances to rap. With the incessant adult Barney-bashing of the past, his new owners had the stated purpose of getting parents on their side this time. In that respect, the good news is that both the setting and the child actors seem less artificial, and one of the girls even has a lovely singing voice. (Ages 2 to 5) --Kimberly Heinrichs

Take it or Leave it.......2004-09-14
My 2 to 5 year old group of family and friends who absoutely LOVE "Songs Fron The Park" invariably get bored with this DVD and walk away from it. A few of the songs excite them somewhat but over all this is a take it or leave it video . . . more or less taken because that's whats in the machine. Give them a choice and they choose something else every time.
Wouldn't waste my money if I was you.

Maybe for older children.......2003-08-20
I purchased this DVD for my daughter (20 months). She wouldn't even watch it the first few times I played it. We put it away for a couple months and now she will watch parts of it, but prefers other videos more. I can't comment on the voice issue as I don't watch enough Barney to really pay attention, and since we are recent Barney converts having a new cast doesn't bother me. The song are not very engaging though, there is a lot of talking, and really no songs that my daughter would recognize.
How I rated
*Educational value: the DVD does encourage reading and activity.
Entertaining to children: my daughter doesn't really like this video all that much
Entertaining to adults: I can't stand to sit through it
*cost: on par with most videos
general: nothing else really good to say about this, and in fact took a star away because of the annoying ads in the front. YOu have to fast forward through them and you can't simply skip to the menu. I hate this.
Very disappointed........2003-08-02
I was very disappointed to find that this is a 2003 DVD, not an old one. Why does it have the year as 1992? The new Barney and Baby Bop voices are very annoying. I was looking for a particular video with last year's kids... this is NOT it.. Only Baby Bop is on the cover, so there's no way to know..
My 2 and 3 year old boys did not sit to watch this for more than 2 or 3 minutes, I can't explain why. We did sit down to get relaxed towards the end and discovered that this does not end with Barney's Famous "I love you" song... It ended rather apruptly. This might sound silly - but the kids get to knowing when the video is coming to an end... and bedtime is near... :-)
I am also disappointed in the new Barney videos which run like a VHS tape, you cannot jump to favorite songs, you have to fast forward and rewind. This does not work well at bedtime when we need to get closer to the end... they can see what's being fast forwarded past...not good.
VERY DISAPPOINTED! I want the old Barney and the old kids back!
Baby Bop ROCKS!.......2003-06-14
My daughter has many Barney DVDs and this is her favorite. I decided I had to write a review after reading the only other posted review. Barney's voice is indeed annoying, but the new cast has a lot of talent. All of the dinos dance really well and the children are adorable. Where is the old Barney??.......2003-06-09
I guess we have been away from the states TOO long. Barney's voice got more annoying then before. I bought this tape for my 15 month old. She really loved the More Barney Songs video. I bought this one to add to her collection, we all sat down to watch it - when Barney started to talk, he sounded like Elmer Fudd!! Anyhow, 5 minutes into the video, my daughter got up and went to her room and played with her toys. Our house will be sticking to the CLASSIC BARNEY tapes when he was lovably annoying, not NAUSEATING annoying....

Body Awarness basic dancing & pilates/stretching workout.......2007-07-14
DJ & Rebecca wrote great reviews. I can add just my 2 cents:
Stephanie Herman has been a prima ballerina for 10 years, she still has beautiful grace & awesome body awareness that can help you to be in more touch with your own body. Her teaching style is quick to the point, she knows her anatomy & how each muscle pulls another body part, how it feels & says it well with analogies. Her positiveness & joy for dancing & body awareness is beautiful to watch. Her teaching is very soft but strong & patient. You can see she loves teaching & it's perfect for her.
This workout is just like her dance with me: ballet workout dance part with moves that are more like pre dance workouts. To increase body awareness, muscle alignment, flexibility, coordination & balance. The music is beautiful. It's real music, not synthesized, it gets you into your body & as Rebecca says, it really makes you appreciate your body. I was excited at first to see what moves she would do. Once she started repeating, I lost a little of my great enthusiasm, but the music still held me. The workout gets progressively more difficult, from simple step touches, to grapevines, to hip rolls & bumps, to full out kick fronts & kick behinds in one fluid motion.
The 48 min mat workout is exactly the same one as her ballet one. It's all stretching & pilates toning of the abs & legs. The pace was good, to the point, but still leaves time for body awareness. There's a lot of leg lifts to tone the legs, ab crunches/bicycle & very good deep stretches, not much traditional yoga poses except for wide leg, single leg & straight leg forward bends, bridge, supine spinal twists, butterfly & child's pose.
I felt more stretched out in a long time & energized & more then from some yoga videos because her stretches were different. I was unable to get my nose to get decently close to my knee in a single wide leg stretch, but by the end of the workout, I could do it w/o any effort & have my head lay comfortably on my leg. Like when I did this workout on the ballet dvd, my joints immediately felt wonderful & better then they had with any other workout.
This video really helped me to become aware of my body better then most workouts including many yoga ones or Jennifer Kries "hot body cool mind." Which by the way, the music on this dvd is the same one I think Jennifer copied from here.
This video is for therapeutic, stretching & body awareness, not cardio. This video is great for light days when you don't want to exercise or afraid to start & be too tired to finish. This video will energize you to increase your energy to want to workout more or improve your mood for the day.
The only thing that bothers me is the dance section from this, her ballet & her old Espirit da danse use all the same moves. The ballet has more slow pace music, but great ballet moves & bar. This Jazz one is is 38 min dance & has GREAT music & quicker pace. The ballet & jazz seem to each share 1/2 of the moves from her Espirit da danse which is 40 min. All had a repetitive feel, but great moves, her grace & love of dance somewhat makes up for that. I just wish she would condense everything into 1 great dvd & also make another with strictly ballet moves.
Wonderful Light Cardio and Stretch Routine.......2007-04-16
This really isn't a dance workout, but I knew that when I got it so I wasn't disappointed. There are two workouts: The first workout (Jazz Workout) is sort of cardio lite; it is all done standing up, there are wonderful side stretches, some nice dancing leaps from side to side, and some other steps that were silly but fun. I doubt I'd do this 30-minute workout often, but it's nice. However, the second workout (Stretch) is the reason I bought this DVD, and it is fun, fun, fun! It is all done on the mat, perfect if you're feeling a little lazy, and it flows seamlessly from side and leg stretches to abdominals and chest work -- and the best part is you don't realize you're "really exercising" until you're doing it! Stephanie takes us from our side stretch to our backs with our knees bent and hands cradling the backs of our head, then we're lifting our chests off the ground, and then I'm saying "wait a minute, this is a crunch!" She does the same sneaky thing with push-ups - and she makes it all so graceful and enjoyable. If you like flowing workouts (i.e. Kari Anderson's Angles Lines & Curves without the constant pressure to "test yourself"), you will love this 45-minute workout!
A Dancer's Workout for Total Body Shaping.......2006-08-05
Stephanie Herman blends her energetic jazz dancing with total body shaping in this fascinating dancer's workout. She has been teaching since 1988 and helps her students reach new levels of flexibility, relaxation and balance.
Alignment & Jazz Workout - Cardiovascular Jazz Workout
Through a variety of flowing stretches she leads you through unique choreography that plays teasingly with balance and asks you to tune into your intuitive sense. Once you tune into your body and enter this beautiful flow state, happiness rises in you and you feel emotionally fulfilled, energized and graceful. Stephanie will at times simply point the direction you will be moving and if you keep your complete focus on her every move, suddenly you are dancing, moving across the floor with form and function.
The purposeful flowing poses are very satisfying and if you have always wanted to feel like a ballerina effortlessly gliding across a stage, this is a beautiful experience that can at times leave you lost in motion. As your body learns the new exercises, you can let go and allow your creativity to flow through the movements.
Body Flow Stretch - Toning and Stretching
The second section of stretches made me feel like a mermaid exercising below the sea in a coral reef. Stephanie Herman begins with side stretches (similar to the Pilates exercise: Mermaid) and then moves into a relaxing seated warm up for the hips. Ab circles loosen and tone, increasing flexibility all while soothing the emotions. The feeling is of a flowing pool of water swirling around your body. The mat work encourages elongation and alignment.
An artistic side series becomes art in motion and as you complete this DVD you may start to feel toned all over and refreshed emotionally. This workout is one of the rewards of keeping with your Pilates and Yoga exercises. The dance section invigorates and the stretching tones and relaxes. This is a complete workout with everything I love about exercising all in one DVD!
~The Rebecca Review
Not dance, but good for stretching.......2006-01-11
I was a jazz dancer a number of years ago and thought this would help me start up again. It is an excellent video for stretching and flexibility, but if you're looking for actual jazz dances, keep looking.
No dancing involved..........2005-06-01
This DVD has two workouts: one is mat based (50 min), the other is done standing (33 minutes). Her moves do not involve much dancing at all and I was very disappointed. She tells you to breathe at least a thousand times, which I found irritating. The production quality is very low: the set is as basic as possible and you do see the camera equipment in several shots. I won't be doing it again!

Description
Why suffer to be in shape when you can dance your way to fun, poise, grace and a stronger, longer, leaner body? This intelligent and amazingly effective low impact program is all you need. With Stephanie Herman, ballet loses its rigidity and gains the mindfulness of yoga and the dramatic total bodyshaping results of Pilates. Beginners with no dance background immediately appreciate special movement metaphors like "around the world" or "let your abs smile." The progressively deep results of body awareness, proper alignment, fluid, yet controlled movements, and calm, satisfies everyone even the most demanding dancer.
Customer Reviews:
Great relaxed paced energizing flexibility/body awareness workout to increase joint mobility.......2007-04-29
Shona & Rebecca wrote great reviews. I can add just my 2 cents that at first I hated this since the music was soft, ambient, lullaby style which can ruin any good workout. Even though the stage was empty except her, the music added to the sleep inducing slow start of posture & muscle alignment & easy step & turn leg preliminary ballet footwork practice.
The workout perked me up when she added leg lifts & circles that help improve balance & more of a stylish routine ballet footwork that she does several times so you do get it even w/o lengthy verbal cues. I was pleasantly surprised when she said "ballet doesn't have to be rigid" & added some hip bumps & circles & then went on to slightly funk jazz steps & grapevines. At this point her teaching style, positiveness & joy for dancing & body awareness allowed me to ignore the too slow/soft music.
The 5 minute bar work was short & sweet with stretching the legs at the bar & more balance work holding leg lifts behind you & in front.
The mat work was all stretching & pilates toning of the abs & legs. The pace was surprisingly faster considering the slow pace of the dancing.
This video really helped me to become aware of my body better then most workouts including many yoga ones or Jennifer Kries "hot body cool mind." At first I was a little sore & thought I overdid the stretches, but the next day I felt very lose/flexible like I already did yoga when I woke up & when did pilates later that day, tight tendons that rub/pull on joints in my lower back/hips/knees that keep me from certain movements (leg lifts, etc.) for YEARS were NOT a problem. I could do movements I couldn't do before since poor body mechanics using gym weights & overdoing some yoga salutaions years ago & over tightening those joints. I'm SOOOO happy!
Her grace from being a prima ballarina is gorgeous to look at.
This video is for therapeutic, stretching & body awareness, not cardio or hard toning. This video is great for light days when you don't want to exercise or afraid to start & be too tired to finish. This video will energize you to increase your energy to want to workout more or improve your mood for the day.
UPDATE: After renting her Artistry of Fitness & her Dance with me: Jazz workout, I realized she uses the exact same mat workout on her Jazz dvd. The music on her Jazz dvd is much more livelier, but the basic idea of the moves is exactly the same. Which is all from her Espirit da Danse from her Artistry of Fitness DVD. The ballet has 33 min of slower paced music, but great ballet moves & bar. This Jazz one is is 38 min dance & has GREAT music & quicker pace. The jazz one has some moves from the Espirit De Danse, the ballet has others. The matwork on the Ballet & Jazz is better then the one on her Artistry of Fitness. All had too many repetitions of the same dance moves. I love her spirit & style, I just wish she would condense everything into 1 great dvd & also make another with strictly ballet moves.
relaxing workout.......2007-04-27
I have never attended any ballet classes before.
I really enjoy the dvd, I agree this is relaxing and therapeutic, and is not a clean ballet, but mixture of ballet and pilates.
do you know the moments in life that you are that tired that cannot move from your chair? or coming back from work completely tired and stressed. And you think: I would have to workout but I cannot move, I am sleepy tired etc. and you feel so bad that again you will skip the workout you wanted to have regularly...
And in such state of mind I start workouting with Stephanie. the more tired I feel the more I want to relax and workout with her... and I finish and feel new born. She is so gentle! but you will feel the muscles working too.
worth buying for example to workout in the moments when you are sure you wouldn't do it:))
not worth the money.......2007-03-14
ifound this product to be very poor. it starts you out as you have been dancing for years very displeased.
Work your core muscles as you dance.......2007-02-26
In contrast to the experiences of many other reviewers, I found working with this video to be a very positive experience. It provides an excellent workout; I was amazed at how thoroughly warmed up my body was after doing the first 20 minutes.
Yes, Stephanie has blended pilates principals into her dance workout. This means that, to do the workout properly, you must do more than "follow the leader." You must breathe properly and cultivate awareness as you move, making sure that you use your core muscles. Anyone who has difficulty accessing core muscles and/or who does not understand the prinicpals of pilates would not find this workout to be as beneficial.
If, however, you are comfortable applying the basic principals of pilates in a dance workout, you will be very pleased to find that this video improves your balance, strength and grace.
The only critique I have is that the production quality could be better. There is no elegant set in the background and there are no dancers to help demonstrate the movements. The DVD was obviously filmed at very close range, and Stefanie appears rather short and squat. Once I adjusted to these small details, however, I did not find them distracting and they did not detract from the overall workout experience.
Perfect for persons over 60's and light workout.......2007-02-17
I loved the ballet class, but this video put me to sleep. Is to slow and I like more movement. I gave to my mother that have more 60 years and she liked , because is light and more easy to do. Stephanie do the dance for everyone.
You can enjoy if you like light workout.

This DVD has the current cast members, so if your child likes the show, they are going to love this DVD!
