Hollywood's legendary "woman's director," George Cukor (The Women, The Philadelphia Story), transformed Audrey Hepburn into street-urchin-turned-proper-lady Eliza Doolittle in this film version of the Lerner and Loewe musical. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, My Fair Lady stars Rex Harrison as linguist Henry Higgins (Harrison also played the role, opposite Julie Andrews, on stage), who draws Eliza into a social experiment that works almost too well. The letterbox edition of this film on video certainly pays tribute to the pageantry of Cukor's set, but it also underscores a certain visual stiffness that can slow viewer enthusiasm just a tad. But it's really star wattage that keeps this film exciting, that and such great songs as "On the Street Where You Live" and "I Could Have Danced All Night." Actor Jeremy Brett, who gained a huge following later in life portraying Sherlock Holmes, is quite electric as Eliza's determined suitor. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
"Garn!".......2007-09-06
Such a delightful film! This is probably one of Audrey's best performance! It's just so disappointing that she wasn't even nominated for the Oscar! Huh! I feel bad for her!
Oh, So Loverly!.......2007-09-03
I have always loved musicals, growing up watching them all the time, but by far My Fair Lady was the best I have ever watched. I never tire of watching Audrey Hepburn transform from a common flower girl to a lady. Though I was dissappointed that Audrey's voice wasn't used in the songs, there are the original songs with Audrey's voice in the extra features. If you love musicals, this is a must-see!
My Favorite.......2007-08-03
This is my favorite movie ever. They did a good job with it two. The extra stuff stinks so buy it for the movie.
Probably the best movie of all time........2007-08-01
Excellent cast and wonderful music make this superb movie one of the best of all time. The Oh so true play based on the English social class distinction, as it used to be, and scenes and characters in Covent Garden just add richness to the whole story.
Featuring the characters from the Covent Garden fruit and vegetable market, of former times, together with the opera goers from the Covent Garden Opera House adds highlight to the cultural extreams that existed, "shoulder to shoulder" for so long.
The truly beautiful Audry Hepburn, Rex Harrison, Stanley Holloway, Wilfred Hyde-White, Gladys Cooper and company, give us the richness and romanticism of a bygone era.......just wonderful.
A classic!.......2007-07-31
This movie is sure to be a favorite for anyone who loves Audrey Hepburn or who enjoys musicals. It is very entertaining!

Amazon.com essential video
My Neighbor Totoro is that rare delight, a family film that appeals to children and adults alike. While their mother is in the hospital, 10-year-old Satsuki and 4-year-old Mei move into an old-fashioned house in the country with their professor father. At the foot of an enormous camphor tree, Mei discovers the nest of King Totoro, a giant forest spirit who resembles an enormous bunny rabbit. Mei and Satsuki learn that Totoro makes the trees grow, and when he flies over the countryside or roars in his thunderous voice, the winds blow. Totoro becomes the protector of the two sisters, watching over them when they wait for their father, and carrying them over the forests on an enchanted journey. When the children worry about their mother, Totoro sends them to visit her via a Catbus, a magical, multilegged creature with a grin the Cheshire Cat might envy.
Unlike many cartoon children, Satsuki and Mei are neither smart-alecky nor cloyingly saccharine. They are credible kids: bright, energetic, silly, helpful, and occasionally impatient. Filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki makes the viewer believe the two sisters love each other in a way no American feature has ever achieved. My Neighbor Totoro is enormously popular in Japan, and some of the character merchandise has begun to appear in America. The film has also inspired a Japanese environmental group to buy a Totoro Forest preserve in the Saitama Prefecture, where Miyazaki's film is set. --Charles Solomon
Description
Critically acclaimed as one of the most delightful and charming family films ever, MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO is a stunning animated treat full of magical adventure from Hayao Miyazaki. Follow the adventures of Satsuki and her four-year-old sister Mei when they move into a new home in the countryside. To their delight, they discover that their new neighbor is a mysterious forest spirit called Totoro, who can be seen only through the eyes of a child. Totoro introduces them to extraordinary characters -- including a cat that doubles as a bus! -- and takes them on an incredible journey. Full of wonder and heart, this spectacular 2-disc set features the voice talents of Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning. MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO is a magical experience for the whole family! © 1988 Nibariki G
Customer Reviews:
This version is better than Disney's........2007-09-14
I like this version a lot better than the one that Disney recently released. I own them both and this is the one that I watch. The Disney one has its benefits; you can view the film in the original Japanese language and you can watch it in Widescreen. However, the voice over done on the new Disney one is terrible; it sounds really "acty". I am not fond of Disney's decision to try to sell Miyazaki's movies based on WHO does the voice over as opposed to HOW WELL they do the voice over.
This movie was my introduction to Miyazaki many years ago and is one of my most favorite animated films. Every child I have ever know that sees this movie loves it.
Perfect for the youngsters.......2007-09-08
The Japanese origin of this film gives it a refreshing look compared to American animation. The story is delightful, and for a change a girl has the lead role. Kids will love the landscapes and the characters. Good, clean fun.
Would Give it More Stars if More Than Five Were Possible.......2007-09-06
Have probably watched this movie at least fifty times with and without my daughter either all the way through or just for 10 or so minutes here and there. It's safe to say that nobody in my home has shown the slightest capacity to lose any interest in this totally brilliant-but-understatedly-so movie. If I could only recommend one thing of all the things I've ever purchased on Amazon it might just be this movie. Can't recommend it highly enough.
This is the one you want.......2007-07-30
This is the definitive English-dubbed version. You've got to have it.
Steer clear of the Disney product. They butchered Totoro.
I concur that a full-blown multi-disc DVD would be nice, but then you might be settling for Disney dubbing. And all the good Fox version DVD's will be bought up and no longer available. Or they will be $200 collector's items.
I truly hate what Disney does to Japanese film. All the film's messages are reduced to a slow 1st grade reading level. Americanisms are substituted for Japanisms. Famous AMerican actors are used for the voices. Very distracting.
Get a clue, Disney. I'm trying to watch a Japanese film so I can see a Japanese film. I don't need it dumbed down and Americanized.
Note that the above criticism is directed agaist the Disney product.
This Fox product is great. Whatever anime you can get your hands on that Disney hasn't touched, congratulations.
I hate what Disney does to anime ever more than I hate Ted Turner for colorizing everything, but it's the same kind of hate.
terrific, original story.......2007-07-26
very nice to have little girls as the primary characters. Well written dynamic between the sisters, showing how a big sister tends to look out for her younger siblings, and how very young children feel about being told what to do. The magical world and characters that the girls discover at their summer home is a great connection to the imaginary play that I see in the younger children. Its a little long for the little ones(3- 4.5 yrs) but my 5 year old enjoys the whole movie on an indoor day or long trip. We watched Sprirted Away first, another great movie, but its not really for little ones (some "scary" characters and a separation from parents).
In this movie, the girls' are concerned about their mother who is recuperating, but that is not the focus of the story, and I think its good to present the idea that little kids could sometimes have an ill or recuperating parent. (Instead of just dead, like so many of the princess movies)

Customer Reviews:
Very Helpful.......2007-08-08
We've been working with our 16 month old daughter for several months on signing and this video really helps reinforce the concepts. She loves it. The signing has definitely provided a way to communicate that lowers frustration levels. If you're looking for a way to get started signing with your child, this is a good product.
Dangerous- avoid!.......2007-08-07
From a recent study-
These products had the strongest detrimental effect on babies 8 to 16 months old, the age at which language skills are starting to form. "The more videos they watched, the fewer words they knew," says Christakis. "These babies scored about 10% lower on language skills than infants who had not watched these videos."
Great DVD.......2007-07-31
My daughter has been watching this for months now. She knew some signs from a book I purchased but she learned more from this video. Even though she can now "say" all the words, she still likes to sign for them as well. This is still among one of her most favorite DVDs to watch.
Quality problems.......2007-07-29
We ordered Baby Einstein - My First Signs and My Baby Can Talk - Sharing Signs at the same time. My son (9 mo old) likes both but likes My Baby Can Talk - Sharing Signs better. Both videos include a variety of helpful signs like mommy, daddy, bath, kiss, cereal, milk, drink, eat, change, sleep, etc. Both are well directed & scripted with cute music, but the Baby Einstein copy we received has big quality problems. In several spots the screen goes blurry (kind of like your TV does when cable is having problems.) Another thing, I especially like the enclosed quick reference signing card that comes with My Baby Can talk, but was not provided with Baby Einstein. Bottom line, if you are buying just one buy My Baby Can Talk Sharing Signs.
Entertaining for baby 3 months old.......2007-07-29
My baby found this dvd very entertaining, I thought it was boring to watch but she cant take her eyes off the tv when the dvd is on. It is great for babies, even as early as 3 months.

The first of two "best of" VeggieTales programs packs together 75 minutes of the Christian-lite group into one volume. The three stories here include "Daniel and the Lion's Den" from the first VeggieTales video, Where Is God When I'm Scared?, and complete programs of Dave and the Giant Pickle and Esther, the Girl Who Became Queen. All three tales illustrate the VeggieTales' creed at its best: entertaining stories from the Bible with a good deal of wackiness that make the lessons go down easy--for both kids and grownups. "Daniel" showcases the remarkable variety of original music the series produces, while Dave may be the quintessential VeggieTales episode. Each segment begins with energetic youngsters discussing the themes. --Doug Thomas

My son loves these guys. they have great songs colorful characters and great lessons. They are series and everyone of them are great. this one is no different. It covers a couple of stories in the bible in a fresh new way that is entertaining for the young ones and they will learn something positive while falling in love with positive characters at the same time which is very great for us!! :-)Win win situation
Veggie goodie.......2007-05-15
The stories are easy to follow with a great message. A little too much extra features that could take away interest from message.
Fun for all ages.......2007-02-03
My daughter is only 4 months old and she loves the songs and laughs throughout. Daniel and the Lion's Den seems to be her favorite.

Preschool fundamentals--including shapes, colors, and the alphabet--are the focus of this one-hour program set in the after-school learning center familiar to viewers of Barney & Friends. Today, everyone is preparing for an art show, which provides plenty of scope for Barney's gentle tutorials on circles, squares, reds, and blues, while he incorporates beloved songs such as "Mister Sun." Viewers will be inspired by the students' art projects (which are easily replicated at home) as well as the lesson on mixing colors to create new hues. Then it's off to Baby Bop's tea party, a perfect segue into the realm of ABC's. As Baby Bop learns to spell her name, there are plenty of rhyming games and alphabet songs to incite audience participation. While lacking the originality of some of Barney's earlier music videos, there is no denying this lineup of merry songs and feel-good familiarity make this a cozy stroll into Barney's world. (Ages 2 to 6) --Lynn Gibson
Customer Reviews:
Kids love it what can I say........2007-06-13
I don't understand the phenomena but my loves the purple pill. Anything Barney seems to be a winner.
God Bless Barney!.......2007-05-21
Like most adults and parents, I can't stand Barney. In fact, I almost hate him. Wow, that's big for someone nicknamed "nice girl". I don't like to let my kids watch TV or videos much; but, there are times when they are just making me pull my hair out and I can't get anything done.
Enter Barney. I throw in his videos or DVDs and POOF, instant quiet. My 2 and 4 year olds just sit there. They don't fight, they don't push, they just stare at the TV, mesmerized and happy. It's like they suddenly joined a cult. God bless Barney!
SHAPES and Abc's.......2007-03-23
I think that this video is great. It begins with shapes and then reviews letters by spelling names and singing songs!! I like to play it in both English and Spanish. The video is a good length too. Not to short and not to long. My 1 and 1/2 loves Barney!
not what i expected........2007-01-11
i bought this and the number dvd because my son had been very interested in some old barney videos i had from 10 years ago. he was not interested in these new dvds the way he is with the older versions. seems like the older videos are more interesting and songs easier to follow.
barney is always good for toddlers .......2006-11-22
really entertained my 18mth old but definetly not a video to learn your abc's this video is mostly colors and shapes theres alot of songs and bright colors and a small part to learn abcs my daughter did learn to say red and abc so it is a great addition to our collection

Three-generational epic saga of the Sanchez family as told by the eldest son.
Customer Reviews:
Family drama.......2007-05-30
I loved this movie and have seen it five times. It charts the generations of a hispanic family in Los Angeles and gives a rich insight into Mexican culture. It's funny, sad, absorbing, and very well acted. For anyone interested in Mexican culture, it's a "must see", and would be especially interesting to anyone living in Los Angeles.
Review for "My Family".......2007-05-13
Not only was this film well done and very entertaining, it was perfect for use in my "Racial, Ethnic, & Gender Relations" course at a local community college.
My Family - Mi Familia.......2007-03-15
If you are Mexican American or Latino for that matter and were born and raised in California, then you can definately relate to this great tale. And for those of you, any race, who are family oriented, or were born to a big family then this movie is for you too. My Family if a wonderful demonstration of how families have unconditional love for one another, stick together, and are proud of each other matter what. It also shows the struggles of immigrant parents coming to our great country to make a better life for their family. This movie has it's comedy, drama, and action beautifully orchestrated, and also a great soundtrack. This movie is a must see by all.
great history of Latios in South West America.......2007-01-09
This movie is a great example of what life was like over the last couple centuries for those Latios living in the South West region of the United States. Some of who without moving went from being Mexicans to living in a new country without the benefits of being a citizen. A great example of the struggles raising a family during that time.
Mi Familia.......2007-01-04
One of the best Latino oriented films i've seen besides 'Selena' and 'La Bamba'. The story is very good and the movie is nice to see especially if you're a Latino. It's been a movie i can enjoy with my family, which is very rare. The DVD features aren't much, but I recommend that people see this movie.

Amazon.com
The son (Chris Makepeace) of a hotel manager (Martin Mull) finds himself the target of the school bully (Matt Dillon, in his breakthrough movie role). So he makes an offer to a school outcast--the biggest kid in class (Adam Baldwin), who reputedly has actually killed someone. He'll pay him to be his bodyguard against the bully. But the business arrangement turns into friendship, even as the smaller boy learns his new friend's secret shame. The first film by director-producer Tony Bill, this one comes down a little too heavily on the feel-good notes (and includes a gratingly precious appearance by Ruth Gordon in her lovable eccentric mode) but works because of strong performances by its young cast. --Marshall Fine
Description
After years of being sheltered in private school, Clifford Peache (Chris Makepeace) finds life difficult at his new Chicago high school where a tough-talking bully (Matt Dillon) and his pals regularly extort students lunch money. Refusing to pay up, Peache hires a bodyguard-the intimidatingly large class misfit (Adam Baldwin) whose rumored violent behavior is legendary. Though everyone else is afraid of him, Peache strikes up a friendship with the troubled loner. Their deepening relationship and unified stand against the thugs manages to rouse the entire school.
Customer Reviews:
Go Misfits!.......2007-08-10
For children of the 80's, this will bring back memories of their first underdog story. It's a classic, new kid, geeky (individual), misfits get bullied and end up victorious, tale. One caution, if your preteens are sensitive to violence (fist fighting) or some bad language, steer clear for a few years. As a classic tale it will wait for them until they're ready.
Classic film.......2007-07-10
I remember seeing this movie in the theater back when I was a kid in grade school when all you had to worry about was getting into a fist-fight with a bully.
These days, kids don't get into fist-fights, they shoot each other dead. How much our society has changed!
Regardless, this is a movie that everyone can relate to. Who doesn't remember going to a new school, not knowing anyone and feeling out of place? And who doesn't remember the school bully?
This film is about growing up and about true friendship and the bond of family. It has humor, excitement and drama and is a movie that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
Keep a special lookout for Ruth Gordon's performance. She is hilarious and heartwarming. What a great actress! Also look for early performances by Adam Baldwin (his first?), Matt Dillon, Martin Mull (whatever happened to him?), Joan Cusack and the legendary John Houseman.
It's a great film that is worthy of being added to anyone's collection.
NOT JUST ANOTHER "HIGH SCHOOL BULLY" MOVIE!.......2007-06-28
This film is much deeper than the title would lead you to believe. A well crafted story and really good characters make this an engrossing little film. You will see young Matt Dillon,Joan Cusack and Adam Baldwin, plus Ruth Gordon and Martin Mull. My Bodyguard is an exceptional film and should not be missed.
On Bullies, Bodyguards, and an Unexpected Friendship.......2007-06-18
This flick was filmed in Chicago. It co-stars Joan Cusack as a high-school sophomore. (In time, she starred in many other roles, and is well known for her phone commercials).
High schooler Clifford Peach, accustomed to a sheltered background, is bullied by Moody and his crew. He is extorted, teased, tripped, and once blindfolded and forced into a locker. At another time, garbage is thrown on his clothes in his locker. The principal is of minimal help.
Clifford attempts to hire John Linderman, a tall fellow, as a bodyguard, but the latter isn't interested. But, gradually they open up to each other, and become friends. Clifford locates a cylinder that enables Linderman to finish his home-built motorcycle. They go on rides together. In time, Linderman relates a horrible personal secret to Clifford.
There is place for humor in this film. They use a telescope, in Peach's hotel room, to look at heavenly bodies. But these are not celestial objects. They are women in tall buildings located some distance from the hotel.
Clifford has conquered his problem with bullies--or so it seems. But if Clifford can get a bodyguard, so can Moody, his old nemesis. And so there is the inevitable fisticuffs between the bodyguards. How will it end?
My Bodyguard: Social Class, Inner City School Environments, and Personal Growth.......2007-05-09
The movie is well done with a fine cast. What makes it unusual is the manner in which it deals with some fundamental elements in the "coming of age process." One of the themes one can chart throughout a life cycle is the evolution of the concept of power. One finds that in the elementary grades where power is physical and individualistic. The mindset atthis point is "whose the tuffest kid in the class." As one moves towards high school the notion of power becomes redefined into a more social framework such as team sports (football, basketball, etc.). It still deals with the physical domain of power, but more social (team efforts sanctioned by the institutional structure, i.e., the school). However there is a class divide that exists within the schools. Those who come from middle class families are more readily moved forward towards college and the professions. Those who are disenfranchised do not. The realization of this on the part of the disenfranchised can lead to hostility expressed in the form of physical threats. This is the nub of the movie. A bright student comes to an inner city school and finds himself the target of a formidable group of bullies. Realizing that he is no physical match he decides that the way to deal with this delemma is trump his tormentors by finding someone even more menacing. At first the potential bodyguard is reticent and dismisses the offer, but eventually the two are drawn together by circumstances and become friends. The result of the friendship is the focus of the movie: the evolution of each of these characters as a result of their interaction with one anther. Needless to say, the bullies are vanquished in the end and the two main characters (the "geek" and his bodyguard)continue to evolve well beyond the point of their first encounter. The movie is also a bit unusual in the sense that it treats the psychological motiviation of the "bodyguard" at a deeper level that one might expect from a teen movie. It's well done and the cast is excellent with a story told in a very believable fashion.

My Baby Can Talk - First Signs.......2007-09-11
I bought this dvd for my grandson (4 years old now) when he was a few months old and he loved it! He was so happy to be able to communicate and be understood! I just purchased it for a 5 month old I take care of and when I turn it on he watches it with great interest! He doesn't yet understand the signs but he loves watching the babies and especially the puppets! We've started teaching him the eat, milk, drink and sleep signs and I'm sure he'll be communicating with us soon! Just because babies can't talk doesn't mean they can't communicate. They are intelligent beings and signing is the perfect tool to teach them a language they understand. This dvd teaches important basics.
Learned signs very quickly.......2007-08-28
I have been trying to do baby signs with my daughter since she was about 6 months old with so so results. She knew milk and more - but I had trouble remembering to show her the signs. I decided to buy this DVD one day while at Baby's R US.
First of all, my daughter will stop what she is doing and watch this dvd. Although not often, I have even played this for her twice in a row and she will stay engaged.
Second, as a 13-month-old, she started learning new signs after watching this twice. I already purchased the second dvd and I am hopeful that I will have similar results.
The Best Purchase of All.......2007-07-26
My son is 8 months old, and we have been watching these for about two months. They are truly the best purchase I have made. I tried Baby Einstein. He didn't care for it. Too fast? No context? Not sure. But he didn't like them (I found them kind of boring, myself.) But these? He has sat still (a rare occurrence) to watch from day one. He watches with great intent, often laughs ... is totally engaged. They also work to calm him when he is fussy. He truly loves them. I love them, because he is learning language. Not just sign language. He has picked up on "milk" and "airplane" and I'm sure more will follow. We watch at least once a day, sometimes more. And, after two months, I haven't gone totally crazy listening to the same thing over and over! I came to the site looking to see if there were any others available ... just for a change of pace :) Truly wonderful products.
Update: My son in now nearing 15 months, and his language skills are, by all accounts, startling. Multiple syllables, combining words, and a pretty large vocabulary (peaches, apple, apple sauce, apple juice, tractor, engine ... plus standards like dog, car, mama, daddy, opa, oma ... and names ... the list goes on) I truly attribute this to the fact that he was introduced early, and in such an effective way, to the concept of language.
amazing series.......2007-06-14
WONDERFUL
< WONDERFUL WONDERFUL, all parents should get this for their babies/toddlers. Our daughter has just thrived on these 2 dvd's by mybabycantalk.com What a wonderful set. Get them BOTH. We only wish they would make MORE dvd's with more ASL-signing words for them to learn like this. She picked up the signs so quickly.
This is helping my daughter learn her signs.......2007-06-13
We're pleased with this DVD - it holds my daughter's attention and has helped her with learning signs. I'm surprised words like mom and dad are not included, and dinosaur is. But overall, my duaghter enjoys it, she is learning, and we're very happy with this purchase.

Like it!.......2007-07-08
This is really not my favorite of the MLP shows, but I enjoy it since it's a good story and it's well animated (apart from the part where the ponies gets the wrong colors)
The movie is both funny and there's some scary parts to keep the pace going.
So glad i found it!!!.......2007-06-27
Movie was brand new....still in celophane. Was a movie i remember watching from my childhood and now i have it for my children to enjoy!!
The Classic MLP!.......2007-05-30
I purchased MLP Season 1 and the movie was considered the first 5 episodes. I remember watching this when I was a kid and now have something that I can pass on that was "classic". The animation is a little off, just for the reason that it's older and it was out before digital animation became available. Although, I would have loved to have seen them put this out on DVD digitally remastered. Unfortunately, they did not, so we are forced to deal with the sometimes choppy animation.
Despite the fact that some of the ponies acted stubborn and bratty, they all come together in the end and make an example of what positive thinking and working together can do. Despite it's age, I would recommend that anyone who has a little girl, or was a little girl in the 80's watch this movie! I LOVE the MLP movie!!
Very cute!.......2007-05-14
Very cute, clean movie. Perfect for little kids, especially if they like ponies. The DVD itself played well on our standard DVD player and TV. Keep in mind, it's the original cast from the early 80's, not the new cast/story lines and the sound/graphics are as expected for the time.
Good movie for young kids.......2007-04-05
My 2-year old daughter loves "My Little Pony" toys, and she loves this movie too (when she saw the box, she said "Pone! Pone!" - she can't quite say Pony yet). The only problem with this movie is that the picture quality is kind of grainy by today's standards; many other movies made in the 80's that have been converted to DVD have been cleaned up better than this. Thankfully, 2-year olds don't care about the quality of the picture! This is one that gets watched over and over (and over... and over). Recommended.

Amazon.com essential video
The most famous and sublime treatment of the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, John Ford's My Darling Clementine is by any measure one of the most classically perfect Westerns ever made. Henry Fonda plays a hard, serious Wyatt Earp leading a cattle drive west with his brothers when a stopover in the wild town of Tombstone ends in the murder of his youngest brother. Wyatt takes up the badge he had turned down earlier and tames the wide-open town with his brothers (Ward Bond and Tim Holt), all the while waiting for the wild Clantons (led by Walter Brennan's ruthless Old Man Clanton) to make a mistake. Victor Mature delivers perhaps his finest performance as the tubercular gambler Doc Holliday, an alcoholic Eastern doctor escaping civilization in the Wild West. Ford takes great liberties with history, bending the story to fit his ideal of the West, a balance of social law and pioneer spirit. Though the film reaches its climax in the legendary gunfight between the Earps (with Doc Holliday) and the Clantons, the most powerful moment is the moving Sunday morning church social played out on the floor of the unfinished church. As Earp dances with Clementine (Cathy Downs)--Fonda's stiff, self-conscious movements showing a man unaccustomed to such social interaction--Ford's camera frames them against the open sky: the town and the wilderness merge into the new Eden of the West for a brief moment. --Sean Axmaker
Description
Henry Fonda, Victor Mature and Walter Brennan star in John Ford's acclaimed film that climaxes with the famous gunfight at O.K. Corral. As Wyatt Earp (Fonda) and his brothers head for a peaceful life of ranching in 1880's California, tragedy moves Wyatt to pin on a badge once more. But when he becomes the law in Tombstone, home to Doc Holliday (Mature) and the Clanton boys, it's only a matter of time until the Earps and Doc face the Clantons in one of the most remembered battles of the Wild West. Featuring Linda Darnell and Ward Bond, My Darling Clementine is considered to be one of Ford's finest films.
Customer Reviews:
Great old classic.......2007-09-05
This is a great old classic movie. While it does lack some continuity in places, it has a lot of great scenes. The included documentary about the making of the movies was also very interesting. Well worth buying!
Beautiful cinematography, partly fictionalized history.......2007-08-01
Of all the actors playing Wyatt Earp, Henry Fonda has impressed me the most. He's strong, law abiding and the kind of 'sheepdog' the wild folks flocking to Western towns needed.
"Clementine" is beautifully filmed in black and white. Many of the vignettes are haunting and several of the scenes have had 'homage' paid to them by later directors.
All in all, very worthwhile to watch as long as you take most of this film as a work of fiction.
Studio classic that lives up to it's name.......2007-06-26
This is an excellent double sided disc with the studio cut and a pre release cut plus a documentary and a trailer. The quality of the film and transfer are excellent.
My Darling Clementine.......2007-06-25
The definitive version of the fabled gunfight at the OK Corral, "Clementine" is another near-perfect pairing of Fonda and Ford, following their collaboration on "The Grapes of Wrath." Shot in Monument Valley, the black and white photography is magnificent, fully worthy of the picture's engrossing and suspenseful story. The climactic scene where Earp and Holliday finally confront the Clantons (led by Walter Brennan) at the OK Corral is the stuff of movie legend.
Total malarkey as history, but wonderful as cinema........2007-06-09
John Ford's "My Darling Clementine" plays so fast and loose with the facts about Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday and the O.K. Corral that it can't even get the ages of Earp's brothers right. (Virgil and James were Earp's OLDER brothers, Morgan his YOUNGER brother, and there's another brother--Warren--who's never even mentioned in the movie.) But "My Darling Clementine" is a magnificent confirmation of Ford's dictum in a later movie, "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance": "When facts get in the way of the legend, print the legend." "Wyatt Earp" and "Tombstone" may be better as history, but "My Darling Clementine" is far and away the most artistic and entertaining movie about Wyatt, Doc and their war with the Clantons. As Earp, Henry Fonda is the archetypal courageous, sweet-hearted Western hero, a totally persuasive pillar of decency and rectitude. In this movie and "Twelve Angry Men," he reached the zenith of his screen persona (a persona he tore down gleefully in "Fort Apache" and "Once Upon a Time in the West'). As Doc Holliday, Victor Mature far exceeds any performance I've ever seen him give, even "Kiss of Death" (and certainly "The Robe" or "Demetrius and the Gladiators"). "My Darling Clementine" represents a sweeter, gentler era at the movies, long before "Little Big Man" or even "Cheyenne Autumn," when every little boy in America wanted to grow up to be a cowboy. Personally, I STILL want to grow up to be John Ford or Henry Fonda!
