The DVD is kicked off by Indy, who shows how she won the title of "Miss Nude North America" at the 2004 Nudes-A-Poppin' show. Next, Ariel Andrews, Gallery magazine's Feb. 2002 Girl Next Door Centerfold, gets wet in the tub in a sheer white micro thong. Then, we watch Rachel Minx strip out of her clothes while she watches tv. Next, an innocent game of pool between Ariel Andrews and Micah Ashley (Gallery magazine's Nov. 2002 Girl Next Door Centerfold) is turned into an upskirt lover's dream come true as our camerman takes some of our most intrusive shots yet! Then, Karen Money is featured in a Luscious Lingerie video. We then go panty shopping with Nicole Sweet. Nicole was so pleased with her purchase that she tried her new panties on in the parking lot! Then, all natural busty and true redhead Vanilla Creme gives us our most intimate Luscious Lingerie video to date. Next, Indy (Gallery magazine's Dec. 2003 Girl Next Door Centerfold) comes clean with a sexy shower and a shave. You'll get to see Kobe teach a sexy class entitled "Bondage 101", get soaking wet in the shower, tease us both in and out of her sheer micro thong and provide us with some voyeuristic shots in a Sleepy Girl video. Then, Jenni Lee shows how a real Striptease should be performed. Jasmine Grey then invites everyone to see some sexy panty teasing in public. Then, Jordan Bentley (published in FHM magazine, seen on MTV's "Next" and making national news as part of "The Hunt" web site) tries to keep her mini-dress from blowing up during a windy Upskirt scene and finally, Indy wraps up the DVD with one of most talked about scenes ever, leaving no doubts as to why she was chosen "Miss Nude North America"2004! Extras include: a video of Jasmine Grey modeling sheer pink lingerie in a hot tub and uncut outtake footage of Kobe Lee.

5 out of 5 stars My Review Of Sweet Satisfaction: Kobe Lee.......2007-06-05

This is the kind of DVD that doesn't have to be hardcore for you to enjoy. Some of my favorites include "Ariel" bathing in the bathtub in her panties, "Indy" doing a striptease, and "Kobe" teaching bondage 101. The DVD also features a "Jasmine Grey" tribute video. I am looking forward to future CandyGirl Video titles.

5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2007-01-09

Didn't really expect much, but was highly pleased. Indy is so frickin' hot. Great video. Definitely want more from CandyGirl. The stripteases and Indy's scenes are the only parts I watch.

5 out of 5 stars The best release of it's kind.......2006-09-19

I've been a fan of CandyGirl Video's since seeing a clip from one of their DVDs on Jasmine Grey's old site. These guys make the most unique softcore videos I've ever seen, and the Sweet Satisfaction series has their best stuff. It starts off with a bang with gallery magazine centerfold and miss nude north america Indy. Indy shows off her nudes a poppin' trophies and then performs a killer striptease! This isn't Indy's best scene on the DVD, but it's a great way to introduce her. Another great scene involves 2 gallery magazine centerfolds, Micah Ashley and Ariel Andrews playing pool in skirts that are too short to wear in public. As the ladies play, the cameraman provides us with some close-up upskirt shots. Both of them wear micro thongs under their skirts which leaves almost nothing to the imagination, since micro thongs don't come close to covering anything! The interaction between both girls is pretty entertaining at times too.
Then, sexy Addie Juniper (who comes close to stealing the whole show) struggles to squeeze into some very tight jeans. I love anything involving tight jeans, so this was a really cool scene. Addie jumps, tugs and squirms as she tries to get these jeans on. Then, she decides to remove her panties thinking that with them gone, she'll be able to get the jeans on, and it works. Addie closes the scene by posing nude, and we see everything! Another great scene involves adult film star Jenni Lee performing a striptease in her home. This chick actually has a stripper pole in her house, and she proceeds to put on a killer routine!
Star Kobe Lee is featured in several sexy scenes: a shower scene, a panty teasing scene, a sleepy fetish scene and a creative bondage scene where Kobe teaches the viewers all about bondage. Kobe's sleepy scene was my favorite due to it's voyueristic nature.
Another scene I liked was where Jasmine Grey models her micro thong outdoors. This has some of the most revealing footage I've ever seen of Jasmine!
Hottie Jordan Bentley has a Marilyn Monroe style windblown upskirt scene, that goes from innocent to red-hot once she removes her thong. She wears the smallest thong I've ever seen, which makes it all the better.
Later, Indy is back in a shower scene with some killer close-ups, that ends with Indy trimming her intimate area. The feature portion ends with Indy in an explicit nude scene, that I would probably get banned if I wrote about it in detail. This is my favorite part of the DVD! Indy is smokin' HOT here and we see ALL of her. If for nothing else, buy it for this scene!
Extras include a scene of Jasmine Grey wearing sheer pink lingerie in hot tub - very erotic footage! And some uncut behind the scenes footage of Kobe Lee that I thought was hotter than her completed scene in the DVD. The camera angle they show I've seen in other CandyGirl Video DVDs, and it's like nothing I've ever seen from another softcore or erotic video company.
There are some other models and scenes too, but these are my favorites. The DVD is well over 2 hours and contains the best material of it's kind I've ever seen in this genre of video. If you love softcore and erotica and enjoy lesser known amateur models over bigger names, then add this DVD to your collection.

Steven Spielberg produced this underwhelming 1986 effort at a slapstick spin on Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. The pre-Oscar Tom Hanks stars with Shelley Long as a married couple whose efforts to finish construction on their home are sabotaged by costly and sporadically funny accidents. The unfinished domicile becomes a metaphor for their troubled relationship, as evidenced by Long's character's attraction to a madman violinist (Alexander Godunov). Hanks is the only reason at this point to check this film out. Richard Benjamin (My Favorite Year) directs but with no flair or distinction. --Tom Keogh.

2 out of 5 stars A few laughs, but dated and poorly written.......2007-09-04

This is not a good comedy, it is a bad one. Let's remember that this bombed when it came out. There is no story in this movie except a house falling apart, and that is the only gag as well, a lot of ridiculous scenes of parts of the house spontaneously falling apart. As implausible as this is, it's occasionally mildly funny, unlike any of the dialogue, which is just implausible and not funny. Tom Hanks is in his forced acting stage, and very plastic. And Shelly Long, uff, let's not even go there.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious.......2007-06-19

One of the overlooked comedy classics, with Tom Hanks at his pre-Oscar best and Shelley Long matching him. Snappy writing and great one-liners makes this a movie you'll be quoting often. If you ever do any home improvement project, you'll find yourself muttering, "Two weeks!" over and over. Also makes a great gag gift for anyone about to buy or renovate a house.

Note to Amazon: your internal review has factual errors. A major plot point is that Hanks' and Long's characters are NOT married, and she is not "attracted to a long-haired violinist" - he is a snobby conductor and her ex-husband, to whom she is NOT attracted anymore. It is difficult to take the reviewer's opinion seriously when he's so far off the mark on basic plot points.

5 out of 5 stars M. Hofman.......2007-05-17

This is one of my very favorite movies ever. Whether the critics liked it or not, if you own a home, you will get a kick out of this movie. If you don't own a home, watch it anyway because Tom Hanks and Shelly Long are hilarious. We have found ourselves quoting one-liners from it on many occasions.

5 out of 5 stars The Money Pit.......2007-03-08

arrived on time and was in excellant condition, the price was reasonable. The shipping was a little high for a DVD.

4 out of 5 stars relaxing comedy.......2007-02-26

This is a good romantic comedy. Just relax and enjoy it.
By the way, there are no guns and almost no crimes in the movie.

The lure of easy cash drives the interlocking storylines of Easy Money, an all-star tale of gamblers, bookies, and gangsters. The movie draws together a blocked novelist addicted to the slots (Kim Basinger, L.A. Confidential), a magician on the skids (Danny DeVito, Get Shorty), a bookie with stress-induced stomach problems (Jay Mohr, Jerry Maguire), a debt-ridden plumber (Forest Whitaker, The Last King of Scotland) who persuades his basketball-playing brother (Nick Cannon, Love Don't Cost a Thing) to shave points, and a gangster by turns mincing and menacing (Tim Roth, Reservoir Dogs). Tying them all together is a murder investigation conducted by a detective on crutches (an unrecognizable Kelsey Grammer, X-Men: The Last Stand). Even Money never achieves the raw, spontaneous energy of a Robert Altman movie (clearly an influence) or the social complexity of Crash (produced by the same company), but individual scenes and actors (particularly Whitaker as he twists his brother's affection to perverse ends) have an impact. Unfortunately, the movie never grips the viewer with the rush of winning or the knife-twist of losing; without that visceral punch, Even Money feels inauthentic and a little preachy. Also featuring Ray Liotta (Goodfellas) as Basinger's long-suffering husband and Carla Gugino (Snake Eyes) as a nurse in love with a brutal debt collector. --Bret Fetzer

Description

Forest Whitaker, Kim Basinger, Danny Devito, Kelsey Grammer and Ray Liotta star in director Mark Rydell's ensemble addiction drama detailing the manner in which gambling and drugs affect a variety of people's lives during the weeks leading up to a championship college basketball game.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars One of the year's worst movies.......2007-09-17

I rented this movie because I do a weekly review for a local newspaper. I thought with so many different good actors in one movie, at the very least it would be a fair movie. At the least, right? I was wrong as this rehashed garbage featured a boring storyline, terrible acting, and is nothing more than a rather poor excuse at making "an independent film". Stay away by all means.

4 out of 5 stars Interlocking Tales of Various People Locked into Gambling Mindsets.......2007-09-14

EVEN MONEY has somewhat the same manner of storytelling that made CRASH so impressive: many apparently disparate characters and stories, all related by the disease of gambling addiction, work in parallel time frames to a related conclusion. Director Mark Rydell (The Rose, On Golden Pond, Cinderella Liberty, The Reivers, The Fox, Intersections etc) has a firm hold on his material - a screenplay by newcomer Robert Tanner - and steers his large and very fine cast through a rapid sequence study of character types. For this viewer it works well.

Carol Carver (Kim Basinger) is a blocked novelist married to Professor Tom (Ray Liotta) who happens to spend her hours away from home and her duties as a wife and mother to teenage daughter Nicole (Carson Brown) at the local casino, gambling away her family's savings on the slot machines. She meets a down and out magician Walter (Danny DeVito) who convinces her to join him in a resurrection of his life as a famous artist. Carol's gambling addiction fractures her life. At the same time plumber Clyde Snow (Forest Whitaker), who worships his younger brother Godfrey Snow (Nick Cannon) for his prowess as an emerging basketball hero, and to escape his dangerous debt from gambling talks his brother into 'fixing' games to help him win back his losses and pay the collectors. The third gambling addict is Augie (Jay Mohr) who with his companion Murph (Grant Sullivan) runs a betting numbers game, a profitable business until Murph's infatuation with his girlfriend Veronica (Carla Gugino) consumes his attention. The tie-in factors among these people are the man behind the collections, a smarmy Victor (Tim Roth) who emerges at all the wrong times to distort their lives and hopes as looks out for his boss Ivan (Mark Rydell), and a strange crippled detective Brunner (Kelsey Grammer), and the ending of the film is tied together in a series of twists that surprise everyone.

Non-linear storytelling is not new, but in Rydell's handling of Tanner's script (and with a lot of help from some very fine actors!) it takes on a new dimension: the messages are not pretty but the souls and crushed dreams of the characters weld our attention. It is a film well worth watching. Grady Harp, September 07

4 out of 5 stars The human condition........2007-09-13

Not just about gambling addiction, but the human weakness and addiction to greed. An incredible ensemble cast with mature interconnected plot lines that deal with love, sacrifice, forgiveness, despair, and happiness. Give this one try. I think you'll be superised.

Modeled after 1963's It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Jerry Zucker's Rat Race lacks the irreverence of Zucker's 1980 hit Airplane! but has enough chuckles to make it an agreeable time-killer. Like Mad, Mad, Mad..., it employs a huge ensemble of comedy stalwarts, assembled by an eccentric hotelier (pearly-toothed John Cleese) to race from Las Vegas to New Mexico for a $2 million jackpot. With a backstage gambling subplot, Rowan Atkinson's Italian-geek lunacy, Seth Green's slacker antics, and some nicely understated work from SCTV alumnus Dave Thomas, the movie has almost as many highlights as clunkers, and Zucker's embrace of easy gags and traditional slapstick will tickle anyone's old-fashioned funny bone. Other ingredients are hopelessly stale: Whoopi Goldberg's frantic mugging, Cuba Gooding's latter-day Stepin Fetchit, "mature" humor that compromises the movie's broad appeal, and the assumption that crashing vehicles are inherently hilarious. Lamentable decisions, perhaps, but Rat Race maintains a pleasantly altruistic spirit. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Zaney!.......2007-08-24

This movie is one to watch over and over again. It's just fun and I think I see more each time I see it.

4 out of 5 stars Completely funny and entertaining........2007-07-26

When it comes to movies that everyone can find comedic, Rat Race is high on my list. With its entertaining storyline and jokes (some obvious and some not so), this film is a must see.

So what's this movie about? Basically, a group of different people from all walks of life are at a casino when they discover that they've been picked to enter a race. If they win, they get 2 million dollars.

What's to like about Rat Race? The first thing I must point out is the amount of famous actors/actresses in this film. I'll also add that each of them are different in their own way which allows the audience to sort of pick a favorite to win the race. From Whoopi to Amy Smart, to "Mr. Bean" to Cube Gooding, there's enough great acting to impress all. The second and most obvious thing I must point out is the rather impressive amount of jokes and comedy. As I said above, each actor/actress provides different forms of entertainment and they are each funny in their own way. For example, while Whoopi and the brothers' comedy may be obvious and typical to some, "Mr. Bean"'s comedy is not obvious and only those with a certain sense of humor may appreciate him. Lastly, the storyline may not be all that original but it will have you at the edge of your seat in anticipation.

And what's not to like? Not much. The one thing I didn't like was the ending. Without giving too much away, I'll say that I found it to be rather corny yet in some ways fitting with the rest of the film. That's my only negative.

I'm giving this movie 4/5 stars. I will say however that I generally give comedic movies a max of 4 stars because they are mainly made to entertain, not to enthrall. With that in mind, if you're looking for a good, humorous movie that'll provide loads of entertainment, be sure to check out Rat Race.

5 out of 5 stars Replaced my worn out disc........2007-05-07

Loved the movie so much that we wore ours out, and we needed a new one. Fast delivery, so we are very happy.

3 out of 5 stars Slow start but funny movie.......2007-01-23

I watched this movie because I was assured by someone whose judgment on comedy I trust implicitly that it was worth watching. Otherwise I almost surely would have given up, because it takes far too long for the story to get off the launchpad. (John Cleese and Dave Martin are both entirely wasted in their roles. A real shame.)

But when it does take off, it becomes a Roman candle and burns very brightly indeed. There's a certain scene where all of the dull preliminaries are clearly over, and you see a couple of knuckleheads come up with what must be one of the very worst examples of problem-solving in human history. The result wass (for me) beyond funny. It was nearly stroke-inducing, I laughed so hard. And in this scene, as with several others, it wasn't just the extreme gag (which was definitely funny), but also the performances from the actors, who strive to maintain calm in the face of the rising tide of chaos and insanity that is, after all, pretty much of their own making.

The movie continues to encounter a few bumps and drags even after it's gotten underway. There was one scene in particular (involving a Seinfeld alum) that my friend thought was priceless, but I felt like it was a rehash of a gag I'd seen several times before. When I saw the premise, I knew exactly how it would end up. But there were still plenty of solid laughs for me, and for the most part, once the film gets rolling, it maintains a furious comedic pace which at times reaches up and touches the truly manic. The screenwriters came up with some really original gags and then played them to the extreme.

The movie exhibited a curious symmetry in that the end was dull and mechanical and not at all funny, as if they felt the need to bring the movie back to the tedium of the beginning. But I'm talking about only the last brief scene. (Apparently the producer owed a favor to a lame 90's rock band.) It's just unfortunate that the movie ended with a clunk instead of a bang.

2 out of 5 stars Not Worth Your Time.......2006-10-16

Vegas - a city where millions go hoping to get rich. And for nine lucky people, that just might come true. While playing the slots, each of these people won a special gold coin inviting them to lunch. At the lunch, they learn they have been selected to participate in a race for $2 million dollars. All they have to do is be the first to get to a locker in the train depot in Silver City, New Mexico.

Naturally, everyone is skeptical at first. But what if it is true? No one can walk away from that possibility, and they all begin to race for the money. But set backs in the form of airport closures, car wrecks, and cows stand in their way. Who will get there first?

The more important question to ask is, does the audience care? In my case, the answer is no. I kept watching, waiting for the movie to get better, but it never did. There were a few truly laugh out loud moments, but most of the movie fell flat.

The biggest problem it had is the lack of character development. With a running time of just under two hours, there isn't time to get to know all the characters. Since I didn't care, I didn't find their predicaments funny.

Then there is the climax. Instead of building on everything that had come before, it took a turn out of nowhere that wasn't even that funny. It was more of an anti-climax that really made me feel like I had wasted my time.

The few funny moments in this movie aren't worth watching the rest of the movie to see. Instead of wasting your time here, watch the classic that inspired it, IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD.

5 out of 5 stars A work of cinematic art.......2007-08-08

I originally watched the series 5 episodes while in London on the BBC. I was enthralled by the depth of the characters and the real life portrayal of the events. Helen Mirren is in a class by herself. "The Street" is one of the best "bad guys" ever created, cocky, bold and brutal. This series may be too realistic for some, it can be a little disturbing at times. Best cop series I have ever seen.

5 out of 5 stars Prime Suspect#6.......2007-06-13

Just love Helen Mirren. I have them all. I wish there were more. She is a striving woman in a men's world.

1 out of 5 stars Poorly packaged........2007-05-06

I ordered the entire series of this excellent show. Unfortunately, I had to order episode #5 three times before I got one that arrived undamaged. Seems the discs were not properly secured inside the package and they arrived scratched. I was not pleased to have been charged the cost of return shipping to Amazon. I will think twice before ordering anymore DVDs from Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Simply breathtaking.......2007-03-03

As in every film she appears in, Helen Mirren takes my breath away in Prime Suspect 5. It's impossible to take your eyes off her when she's on screen, and I can watch her movies endlessly and always find new depth in her characterizations. This entry in the series is just as good as 1,2,3,6 and 7 (4 was still good, but broken up into shorter stories, so for me not as impactful). Mirren is divine, and as much as I love all her performances, her embodiment of the complex, lonely and deeply ethical Tennison will always be my favorite.

5 out of 5 stars The absolute BEST television crime drama!.......2007-02-15

Helen Mirren is my new favorite actor, and in this British drama, she captivated me. I never wanted the DVD to end!

Product Description

Legendary actor Paul Newman (MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE) and Academy Award(R)-nominee Tom Cruise (Best Actor, 1996, JERRY MAGUIRE) ignite the screen in this powerful drama. Brilliantly directed by Martin Scorsese (GANGS OF NEW YORK), Newman re-creates one of his most memorable roles from THE HUSTLER. As Fast Eddie Felson, he still believes that "money won is twice as sweet as money earned." To prove his point, he forms a profitable yet volatile partnership with Vince (Cruise), a young pool hustler with a sexy, tough-talking girlfriend (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, THE PERFECT STORM). But when Vince's flashy arrogance leads to more than a few lost matches, all bets are off between Eddie and him. THE COLOR OF MONEY will electrify you with its suspenseful story, dazzling cinematography, and dynamic performances.

Amazon.com essential video

Martin Scorsese handles directing duties in this 1986 sequel to the classic 1961 film The Hustler, which marks the return of Paul Newman to the role of pool shark Fast Eddie Felson. Anxious to break into the big time again, Eddie finds a talented protégé (Tom Cruise) to groom; but with the addition of the latter's manipulative girlfriend (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) and the wild streak in Cruise's character, the trio make for a fascinating portrait in group psychology. The cast is brilliant, the script by Richard Price (Clockers) is a paragon of tightly controlled character study and drama (at least in the film's first half), and Scorsese and cinematographer Michael Ballhaus make an ornate show of the collision and flight of pool balls through space--something of a metaphor for the dynamics among the three principals. The film is generally regarded as weaker in its second half, and rightly so, as everything that was interesting in the first place disappears. Still, Newman won a deserved Oscar for his performance. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Great Product.......2006-03-10

The movie I bought was in fantasic shape I would buy from this shipper again.

4 out of 5 stars Luk itself is an art..........2005-09-13

Scorsese's movies are a warranty of quality, and this one ain't an exception. Newman's performance was exceptional, and if you've seen the Hustler, you can also aprecciate how he has developed. Cruise is actually pretty good when compared to his early work.

Very good 80's classic.

5 out of 5 stars A great sequel.......2005-05-15

A sequel of sorts of Newman's 1960 THE HUSTLER, and a great one. Newman, long out of the pool game now, but still unable to forget it, finds Tom Cruise shooting the daylights out of the game one night and talks the brash young kid into going on the road and becoming a hustler, with Newman as his mentor. Then halfway through the picture Newman gets the bug to play again. He and Cruise meet up in Atlantic City in a match and Newman wins, only he learns that Cruise lost on purpose to collect a bigger debt. Although it's just an example of his pupil learning his lessons too well, Newman is crestfallen; but he refuses to share in the money - thus he's purified under fire and comes away clean. It's a bit of a shock to see the movie shift from Cruise to Newman halfway through, but the ending redeems it. Both Cruise and Newman are simply mesmorizing to watch. Everything in the movie seems to work perfectly: the gritty pool-hall settings, the minor characters (especially Forest Whitaker as a hustler) - everything. Definitely worth a watch.

5 out of 5 stars The Color Of Money: The coolest Scorsese flick.......2005-01-04

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Martin Scorsese is one of the best directors living today. Films like Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, The King Of Comedy, and his most recent The Aviator are modern day classics.

The Color Of Money is also on the list of Scorsese's movie portfolio, and it's also one of the best movies made in general. The film stars Paul Newman (The Hustler) and Tom Cruise (Jerry Maguire, Rain Man) as hustlers out to make big cash in the pool halls. Newman reprises his role as Fast Eddie Felson, from 1961's film The Hustler, an oldtimer who is looking for new talent to sport around, Tom Cruise plays his target Vincent, a talented pool player and potential hustler. Felson teaches Vincent and his girl sidekick Carmen (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) everything there is to know about professional hustling and then out they go across country hustling through every state they pass on their way to the big championship in Atlanta. The highlight of the film is in the tense relationship between the desperate Felson, the crazy jealous Vincent and the manipulative Carmen, and how they manage to work as a team.

Simply put, I'll watch my old VHS tape of this forever. I will not buy a DVD of any mainstream movie that has no extras. GET ON IT ALREADY. Put Newman and Cruise together again for a commentary track. Assemble a handful of pros to do a featurette on it! I've seen other movies revamped two or three times with DVD extras but this one just keeps getting printed with a plain old brown wrapper. Put the Money where your mouth is!

Inspired by an actual incident, this unassuming, wonderfully good-natured romantic comedy tells the story of a New York City street cop named Charlie (Nicolas Cage) who makes a promise to a coffee-shop waitress named Yvonne (Bridget Fonda) that will change both their lives. One day after coffee, Charlie is embarrassed to discover he doesn't have money for a tip, so he tells Yvonne that he'll share half of his winnings if the lottery ticket he's holding comes up a winner. Sure enough, he wins the jackpot--a whopping $4 million payoff--and Charlie's wife, Muriel (Rosie Perez), goes ballistic when he tells her about his deal with Yvonne. From this point, It Could Happen to You follows Charlie's dilemma as he is forced to decide the proper course of action, and director Andrew Bergman smoothly incorporates a gentle love story into this amusing crisis of conscience. Fonda and Cage have an easygoing chemistry that adds a pleasant touch to the movie's fairy-tale plot, and the story's kindhearted sentiment is never so thick that it becomes sticky-sweet or artificial. As feel-good comedies go, this one's a class act. --Jeff Shannon

3 out of 5 stars From fact to flatline fiction.......2007-08-31

The actual story behind the highly fictionalized movie script could have made a really good movie. According to the urban legend website SNOPES, the real events involved a not-so-young waitress and a not-so-young police detective who together select the winning numbers to a $6 million jackpot. There was no hint of romance between the two. But that would be too open-ended for the cookie cutter mentalities behind this movie. They must have went into a conference room -- or a lunch room -- or a diner -- and derived this formulaic romance between two unhappily married people.

Their result was this plot bringing together a Prince Charming, a Cinderella, a the Wicked Witch of New York. But they forget to include a nice dramatic flow of events. I just didn't experience any peaks and very little emotional depth. In the end, I wasn't satisfied.

At least Nicholas Cage makes the most of the opportunity to be normal and charming rather than quirky and charming (one of his first such efforts). He gives the movie whatever depth it attains. Pretty Bridge Fonda gives her usual quiet, unexciting performance. They're responsible for most of the positive rating I give this movie.

Rosie Perez, unfortunately, overwhelms the entire proceedings with nasally witchiness. And that's not the memory I want to take away from a movie.

So, I'm looking forward to the remake based on my own soon-to-be lottery success... Oooh, Briii-dget....

5 out of 5 stars It Could Happen to You.......2007-08-12

Two thumbs way up!!! It goes to show what small things on a large scale can do.

5 out of 5 stars Makes you feel all fuzzy inside........2007-07-10

It Could Happen to You starring Nicolas Cage and Bridget Fonda is a cute romantic comedy that's appropriate for all-ages. No sexual content, no vulgar language, and no unnecessary violence is what you'll get with this feel-good movie. Cage and Fonda have the perfect chemistry, you truly believe they are meant to be. Rosie Perez adds comic touch as Cage's selfish and greedy ex-wife. If you believe in happily ever after's and enjoy a corny but refreshing romantic comedy then It Could Happen to You shall float your boat. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Corny is Refreshing.......2007-06-15

I love this "feel good" movie. It is corny , but I like romantic comedies that are like this. Rock Hudson, Cary Grant, and Tom Hanks all made some of these. No blood , no horror, no amazing technology, just relax and enjoy a movie that makes you feel good about people and romance.
Good and basic escapism.

5 out of 5 stars Great movie.......2007-05-09

Being a former law enforcment officer I can relate to how it is most difficult to balance the job and the home life. It is often times too hard to find happiness in this line of work and all someone really needs is to be loved and to have support. This is a great title to add to anyones collection, also a good date movie.

Part of the late-'70s wave of films about strong women (as if none had existed before that), Julia starred Jane Fonda as writer Lillian Hellman in a story based on some of Hellman's own writings. The stronger woman here is the title character (Vanessa Redgrave), a socially active young woman who teaches Hellman the importance of sticking to her beliefs--even in the face of Nazi terror. The subplot focuses on Hellman's growth as a writer, under the supportive wing of lover Dashiell Hammett (Jason Robards). Lushly photographed by Fred Zinnemann, it's one of the few films that projects a sense of how a writer writes; it also was unafraid to explore the dark consequences of conscience, when Resistance-fighter Julia is captured by the Germans. Robards and Redgrave both won Oscars (leading to Redgrave's Zionist hoodlums acceptance speech). Watch for Meryl Streep in a tiny role in her film debut. --Marshall Fine

Description

Based on a story from Lillian Hellman's best-seller, "Pentimento." Hellman (Jane Fonda) recalls her lifelong relationship with the fiercely independent and politically minded Julia (Venessa Redgrave). Born to great wealth, Julia devotes her life to political causes fighting fascism in the 1930's. While Hellman is travelling in Europe, she is approached by one of Julia's political friends (Maximilian Schell) and is swept into Julia's world, smuggling money across hostile borders. Featuring Meryl Streep in her film debut, Julia won three 1977 Academy Awards®, including Vanessa Redgrave as Best Supporting Actress, Jason Robards as Best Supporting Actor and Best Screenplay Adaptation.

5 out of 5 stars Julia.......2007-08-01

Outstanding film. Jane Fonda is superb as Lillian Hellman and Jason Robards is his usual understated genious. Vanessa Redgrave is very good also. If you blink, you'll miss Meryl Streep in one of her earliest works. Her talent shows already. The historical and semi-biographical background is what attracted me to buy this film. Most highly recommended.

1 out of 5 stars Lousy.......2007-03-08

Jane Fonda way over-acts, and the direction and production values are just one step above made-for-television level.

4 out of 5 stars Ready to throw Fonda away; don't until you see this.......2007-02-15

Jane Fonda, with Ms. Redgrave, makes this a reasonable and incredible synopsis of the war and difficulties of free-thinkers at this time. When you see the poor publicity Fonda has gotten recently because she's upset about the latest war, remember too, that you need to see her films and read her autobiography. She is brilliant.
She's been there; done that. She deserves great recognition for this wonderful, valid, strong, creative experience of her brave, yet scared character here. She and Redgrave portray the best of intellectuals. And lately, intellectuals seem to be forgotten by the movie business. Here is a saga, a journey, worthy of high praise. Doesn't anyone miss the wonderful historic dramas of times past? This is one, with acting worthy of acclaim.

5 out of 5 stars Continuing enjoyment through the years.......2007-01-28

This has been a favorite film since my first viewing when it was initially released. The tension of the times and the quality of acting combine to reflect Hellman's personal experience. I wanted to add it to my very select library of film, now available on DVD.

3 out of 5 stars Decent movie.......2007-01-11

The history aspects were good. The movie was too deep for my taste and I didnt like the ending.

3 out of 5 stars Entertaining........2007-09-06

Other People's Money is a good "feel good" and yet hilarious movie about a Wall St. corporate raider played by Danny Devito who sets his target on a debt free, nearly century old company whose balance sheets are whistle clean.

However, the fictitious company, New England Wire & Cable has a few gatekeepers that are prepared to give this capitalist a run for his money. The head gatekeeper, "Jorgy" played by legendary screen star Gregory Peck delivers a sensational performance as its chairman and major shareholder.

This clash of the titans sets the stage for a battle, full of comedy I might add, between New England Wire's champion, played by Penelope Ann Miller, as the rival attorney who challenges Devito's character at his game. Weapons of choice- a concoction of wit, connivery, wheedling, deception, charm, and what else, seduction.

The movie is a good primer on the nomenclatures of hostile takeovers and corporate dealings. You learn various buzz words like 13-Ds, green mail, and stock buybacks. You also get to witness a good ol' fashion throw back proxy fight at a shareholder's meeting.

Your time invested will be amusingly rewarded.

3 out of 5 stars A cheesy little comedy..........2007-01-26

... but DeVito's speech at the shareholder's meeting was required viewing in one of my MBA classes. The movie can be a good primer on hostile takeovers, how and why they are done. The sugar-sweet happy ending was a let-down (I guess I'm a greedy uncaring goob), but the lessons of the movie weren't lost.

5 out of 5 stars Very good movie for business lessons.......2006-11-13

A great movie to be used in teaching business. The movie shows how the changes in the enviroment affect the companies that don't innovate themselves. And it's good to show how the capitalism drives de growth of economie.

5 out of 5 stars Seasonal Classic.......2005-10-30

I'm an avid movie maniac. I have certain films that I can only watch at certain times of the year, and do, every year. Other Peoples Money, starts off my fall movie viewing, after Halloween of course. I love the new England Autumn charm of this film. The story is good, dialogue clever and the chemistry between Miller and DeVito is scary. An unlikely romanic couple if ever there was. A Classic in my book!

5 out of 5 stars OPM- Used in my Business Management classes..........2005-10-10

There is no nudity in this movie but there are some vaguely sexual discussions. Even some adults might miss the true points being made but you may want to consider that before allowing children to see OPM.

That said, this is the best business movie I have ever come across. When I first saw it in the theater I was all for Gregory Peck's character until DeVito's speech at the end which is truly thought provoking. In teaching business management at the University of Southern Mississippi, I have my students watch the whole thing at the beginning of the semester to acquaint them with the notion that those who have the goal of making money are not all bad. For some reason, even though they want to be in business, my students too often think of running a business and making money as grubby, nasty chores performed by evil people. The characters in OPM force them to examine those beliefs.

Other reviewers have made the point that this a funny movie and it truly is. The humor is probably better appreciated by adults than children since it is not of the slapstick kind but rather uses plays on words.

While the characters in OPM are somewhat one-dimensional, what I enjoyed is that they are always true to themselves. When offered a million dollars by Piper Laurie's character to go away , DeVito responds "It is not enough." She was being true to her goals of minimizing conflict in her company and he was being true to his goals of maximizing his wealth. When asked why, he gives an answer that shows that he doesn't accept the idea that he is the bad guy in this drama.

I particularly appreciated the movie not making DeVito's character out to be a totally bad guy. That is a real failing of most movies coming out of Hollywood. Other reviewers have talked about how his relationship with Penelope Ann Miller's character shows his humanity but I think people should take note of his relationship with his chauffeur and his secretary and their loyalty to him. He makes use of his reputation as a tough guy to serve his business needs but there is much more to the man.

All together, this is truly a great movie. It amazes me that it took so long for it to come out on DVD since it has all the stars in the world (DeVito, Peck, Miller, Laurie, Stockwell, etc.)

Description

In MILK MONEY, when 12-year-old Frank Wheeler (Carter) and his two buddies save up their milk money and head into the city in search of a woman who will let them see her naked body, they think they've died and gone to heaven when V (Griffith) agrees to disrobe for them. Now stuck in the city and out of their element, the boys seek refuge in V who agrees to drive them back to the suburbs and away from the city's chaos. But, when V's car breaks down outside of his house, Frank decides that V would make a good step mom, and proceeds to play matchmaker for his dad, Tom (Harris). Thanks to Frank, Tom thinks that V is a math tutor, while V thinks that Frank knows the truth about her occupation. What ensues is a long, hilarious conversation that revolves around this comical misunderstanding.

ABSOLUTLY TERRIFIC!

5 out of 5 stars Milk Money-DVD.......2007-05-25

I love this movie, it is light and funny and clever. It came in perfect condition and arrived speedily.

3 out of 5 stars The Dairy Challenge.......2006-11-05

Michael Patrick Carter plays Frank Wheeler, twelve-year old son of Tom Wheeler, a widowed botanist played by Ed Harris. Frank and his two buddies want to see a real-live naked lady, so they scrounge up a hundred bucks and ride their bikes into the city to find a prostitute. Meanwhile, Tom is occupied trying to save a local patch of wetlands.

The kids hook up with "V," played by Melanie Griffith. "V" decides it's okay to show them the goods -- they don't have enough body hair to be dangerous, she says -- and they're thrilled. (It's hard to determine how thrilled Michael Patrick Carter is, since he has a perpetual grin on his face throughout the film.)

The kids' bikes get stolen, so "V" borrows her pimp's car to take them home. Frank tells his dad "V" is a math tutor, and there's a funny exchange between the two where Tom thinks she's talking about mathematics when she's really talking about sex. The two take a liking to each other, and Frank hopes "V" will marry his dad -- her car has broken down, stranding her in the suburbs. Frank stashes her in his treehouse until Tom makes up his mind.

Mucking things up is a ruthless gangster, Waltzer, played by Malcolm McDowell. Waltzer thinks "V" has her pimp's stash of money -- money that Waltzer believes is rightfully his. Waltzer is a cold-blooded killer -- it's pretty much the same character McDowell plays in "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead," and his presence really disrupted the lighthearted tone of this film for me.

Anyway, things wrap up tidily by the end, with Frank delivering my favorite last line in movie history, second only to "Caddyshack." If you're a guy who watched "Pretty Woman" two hundred times in high school or are completely insane, you'll probably enjoy watching "Milk Money."

4 out of 5 stars Milk Money.......2006-08-15

"Milk Money" is a movie with a perverse sounding plot, that is actually a charming (if not cliched and predictable) movie with Melanie Griffith in one of her best performances. In this film, Griffith steals the show. Milk Money has an interesting idea, but it is carried out in a way we've seen thousands of times before. Griffith's character is a character that's been played thousands of times before, but this film still works. Three preadolescent kids named Frank, Kevin, and Brad all long for one thing...To see a woman naked. All three of them are clueless about sex and women in general and the script portrays these kids exactly how they would be in real life. It doesn't exaggerate their curiosity, it hits it right on. Anyway, they figure in order to see a woman naked that they must have some money and go into "the city."
So, they begin collecting milk money. When they have it, they ride into the city to find a woman who will take off her clothes for money. For a while, they're unsuccesful; But after a near-run in with a thug, they meet V (Griffith)
who gives the boys what they want. I know this sounds perverse, but it's done pretty tastefully. Anyway, the boys get stranded so V gives them a ride home but gets stranded herself when her car breaks down. It occurs to one of the boys, Frank, around this time that maybe V can marry his single dad Tom (Oscar nominee Ed Harris). Why not? Of course, V and Tom fall for each other quickly (although Tom is under the impression that V is a math tutor); But V's pimp has been ripping off people and has recently been killed and his killer Walter (Malcolm McDowell, with a wonderfully campy take on the character he's had to play over-and-over again since "A Clockwork Orange") is looking for V. Does true love prevail? Of course it does but that doesn't mean that, in between the beginning and the end, you can't be entertained. I love the characters in this film and I love the actors who play them. Yes, they're trapped in this carbon copy script but they make it work...Especially Griffith, who takes the hooker-with a heart-of-gold thing and makes it her own. Not for everybody, but it's smooth and senseless entertainment.

4 out of 5 stars A 'Pretty Woman' knockoff that stands well enough on it's own..........2006-06-06

Okay, so the simularities are there...man falls in love with hooker...okay so that may be it but you have to admitt that when you watch this movie the first thought that pops in your head is 'pretty woman' without Roberts star power. If that's the point when you turn this off it's a shame for there is a little more to this film than 'man meets hooker man loves hooker'. First off, the man doesn't know she's a hooker till half way through. The man is Ed Harris and the hooker V is played by Melanie Griffith. The story follows Frank, Harris's son, as he and his friends save up their money to pay a hooker to show them her breasts. That hooker is V. In a chain of events V ends up staying in Franks tree-house while his father fixes her car. Frank, who has never known what it's like to have a mother beings that his mother died giving birth to him, is excited to have V around and is convinced she would be the perfect step-mother (although I find it strange that he wants his step-mother to be the woman he just saw naked). The funny parts of this film consist of when they talk about V's line of work since V believes Ed Harris knows she's a hooker and he believes she's a Math Tutor. The film is sweet and nice Hollywood fluff, nothing too meaty and nothing you'll be jow dropped and amazed over but it's cute and light and a decent film to boot so it won't bore you and may just be what you feel like watching one rainy afternoon.
