While scoring high-profile credits as a screenwriter (including The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark), Lawrence Kasdan made his directorial debut with this steamy, contemporary film noir in the tradition of Double Indemnity and other classics from the 1940s. In one of his most memorable roles, William Hurt plays a Florida lawyer unwittingly drawn into a web of deceit spun by Kathleen Turner (in her screen debut) as a married socialite who plots to kill off her husband with Hurt's assistance. Kasdan's dialogue is a hoot (sometimes it borders on satire), and the sultry atmosphere is a perfect complement to the perspiration-soaked chemistry between Hurt and Turner, whose love scenes caused quite a stir when the film was released in 1981. John Barry's score sets the provocative mood, and both Ted Danson and Mickey Rourke are splendid in memorable supporting roles. --Jeff Shannon
Description
William Hurt and Kathleen Turner strike sparks in Lawrence Kasdan's Body Heat, a sexy, haunting tale of desire and skullduggery that echoes 1940s film noirs but is charged with an energy and passion that could only flare in the '80s. Aided by a sultry John Barry score, Kasdan's assured directorial debut foreshadowed the emotional textures he would bring to later films The Big Chill, The Accidental Tourist and Grand Canyon. Sit back and bask in this contemporary classic's wicked warmth.

Body Heat.......2007-07-06
Reminiscent of "Double Indemnity" and other film-noir classics, Lawrence Kasdan's directorial debut is a steamy crime drama about lust and betrayal remembered partly for its then-risqué lovemaking scenes. Hurt excels as the credulous Ned (what a sap!), and Turner sizzles in her first screen role as a husky-voiced femme fatale in the Lauren Bacall mold. Great support from Ted Danson and Mickey Rourke round out a winning cast. Titillating and suspenseful, "Body Heat" will raise your body temperature, and your pulse.
Deluxe Edition Delivers.......2007-05-27
Body Heat is one of my all time favorite movies. I am a big fan of film-noir, of which Body Heat was a modern exemplar as well as an example of a time when adults made movies for other adults.
Since other reviews amply explain the plot, I will restrict my comments to the DVD. I do want to say that part of the magic of this movie is the pitch-perfect casting from William Hurt as the over-matched, incompetent lawyer, to the gorgeous and sensual Kathleen Turner as his femme fatale, to even those acting in smaller roles such as the Ted Danson as the dancing DA and Mickey Rourke as an expert arsonist for hire. There is not a bad casting decision here, nor a wasted scene.
The Deluxe Edition DVD provides several worthwhile extras. Most notably, interviews with Kasdan, Hurt, Turner, and Danson shot recently, provide a great deal of insight into the intent of the movie, how the actors were selected, why the movie was shot in Florida instead of New Jersey as originally planned, and some of the obstacles that had to be overcome (the cold weather!, Alan Ladd's objection to Hurt's mustache, Turner's shyness about filming nude during the sex scenes, and so on). Most interesting to me was the explanation of what Maddy Walker (the Turner character) was feeling at the end of the movie in the final scene. The movie always seemed ambiguous to me with respect to whether she really cared for Racine or not. The documentary provides some insight from Kasdan's and the actor's perspectives.
The axed scenes are also of interest. I almost always agree with the decision to exclude scenes when I have seen them on DVDs and this is no exception. However, it is interesting to see how the story was originally planned and that there was actually a failed attempt to murder Maddy's husband prior to the successful attempt. It is also nice to see Turner in a sexy stewardess outfit (in the movie the Racine character has a thing for women in uniforms).
The sensuality of John Barry's wonderful jazzy score can not be emphasized enough. The score is, as Kasdan remarks, a character in the movie.
In short, the Deluxe Edition is worth the extra few dollars over the regular edition for any Body Heat fan. Would that they made movies like this today!
FANTASTIC! Gets better each time I watch it..........2007-05-22
I bought this after seeing it on cable and being reminded of what a good film it was.
On the off chance you are looking at this review and haven't seen it, William Hurt is a small town lawyer seduced by a local femme fatale, Kathleen Turner, and he gets in over his head in doing her bidding. His best friend, a assistant district attorney, played by Ted Danson, is in the unenviable position of having to investigate his friend. The drama and plot twists unwind from there...
I have now watched it several times, and I actually think it gets better each time you watch it, because you start noticing small details about the scenes and plot that you might have originally missed...this film has aged beautifully. Amazing ambience and Hurt,Turner, Mickey Rourke (back when he was cool), Danson, and the other supporting actors are great.
I bought this exact DVD off Amazon, so I can speak about the extras. This specific DVD includes some scenes that were cut--including one scene involving a first murder attempt on Richard Crenna that failed. The other extras included some interviews in Europe that took place in 1981 with Turner and Hurt. The next set of extras is discussions with the actors today about the making of the film--interesting to see how they have aged. Lawrence Kasdan, the director, is also interviewed. There's a LOT of interesting information about how it was filmed (it was cold, not hot when they shot the movie!), some artistic choices that were made, etc. I actually thought, for once, that the extras were valuable, because I had never seen film noir, and the extras really emphasize the point that Kasdan was going for a sexy recreation of old film noir like the Asphalt Jungle. Never seen those, but if they are as good as Body Heat, I will go rent...
Amazing film!.......2007-02-21
This film is definitely not given the credit that it is due. It is spicy and enticing all the way through. As a student of the law I can definitely relate the everything that occurs in this film. The main characters are full of plotting, schemes, and deceit. This movie teaches a great lesson for life, showing what can happen when you are not careful, let your guard down, and get too entrapped in physical relationships. This movie is highly recommended. You will love it!
Neo Noir South Florida.......2007-01-04
I continue to go back to certain movies. This is one that gets better with each viewing.
William Hurt and Kathleen Turner provide the melting point, but the supporting cast is entirely up to the needed level to make this one of the best dark thrillers of the past 25 years. Ted Danson is particularly good in his turn as prosecutor, while the late Richard Crenna turns in a creditable performance as the money machine that ignites the fires of greed. J.A. Preston is terrific as the police investigator who follows, or is he led?, the trail of the crime.
Moody, dark and intricate, with everything working, this is one of my favorites.

Great service !!!.......2007-08-23
I love buying things here, its such an excellent service, and you can find whatever you want :D
And what can i say about the movie, it one of the greatest movies ever
Great Movie.......2007-06-20
This movie was excellent, the acting was impressive for a lifetime movie, it was good to see Amy Jo Johnson back in film.
Perfect Body delivers a perfect 10.......2007-05-18
Welcome to Andie's world. A world of school, training and eating disorders. Andie Bradley is a high achiever who accels at anything she does. When she gets the chance to train with an Olympic coach and has the opportunity to go to the Olympics, she jumps at it. Only after her and her mother relocate to Seattle does the pressure begin. In the most humiliating moment of her life she's put on scale in front of the entire gym and told to lose weight. So she does. Only she couldn't stop once she started. Thus, begins her spiraling downwards into the devestating world of anoroxia and bulmia. This is very well made movie and highlights the stress and strain that female athelites feel and the pressure to be thin and perfect. This is not your average movie. The stress Andie feels is acurately portrayed and the pain of her parents is raw and real. This movie achieves its goal to tell a story in a thoughtful and compelling way.
Horrible acting.......2007-04-26
Not only was the acting horrible, but the process from being a normal teenage girl to a weight obsessed gymnast was not believable at all. Basically, the middle part was fine. The beginning and ending to this movie did not flow. I was not convinced she had an eating disorder.
It Was Okay .......2006-12-08
I had bought this movie along with the DVD "Dying to be thin" which I found to be much more enjoyable to watch.
Perfect Body is about a girl athlete who was forced into the world of eating disorders. I found it disappointing that even though many people were saying how she was "too thin". The only thing different about her was the makeup on her face to make her appear gaunt and malnourished.
Overall the movie was okay but I could only watch it once.

Rafael Gonzales (Guillermo Toledo) plays the consummate department store clerk in The Perfect Crime, a Spanish comedy about the cutthroat world of sales representatives clawing their way to the top. As an employee at Yeyo's, Rafael works in the women's department to maintain womanizing access to fellow hot female coworkers. While competing for a promotion, however, he accidentally kills his competitor, Don Antonio Fraguas (Luis Varela). Witness Lourdes (Monica Cervera), the ugliest woman at Yeyo's, demands sex with Rafael in exchange for keeping his crime secret. As Rafael grows frustrated with this blackmailing arrangement, the ghost of Don Antonio coaches him on how to kill his possessive accomplice. Director Alex de la Iglesia's satire about consumer culture and machismo manifests in Rafael as a love of nice suits and a fear of commitment. Rafael is a buffoon, stealing champagne and lobsters from Yeyo's grocery store, or seducing clerks in dressing rooms. Describing an underwear shopper as "strolling through lingerie like a deer in the undergrowth," Rafael reveals volumes about the kind of character Iglesia mocks. As in Glengarry Glen Ross, humor in The Perfect Crime is a bit morbid, especially when the two sales reps must cram Don Antonio's body into an incinerator. A well-written script, and characters who can turn potentially corny situations into smart black humor, make for pleasant viewing. --Trinie Dalton
Description
(Comedy) Rafael is a hit with customers and coworkers alike in the ladies department of a large department store and believes he is a shoe-in for store manager but things don't go exactly as planned, and Rafael is beaten out by rival Don Antonio. When Don mysteriously disappears, Rafael is the most likely suspect, and one person knows the secret that could bring him down. Black comedy abounds in this tale of the perfect crime. Nominated for six Spanish Academy Awards
Customer Reviews:
Ham-fisted and overly obvious.......2007-07-07
A disappointing black comedy/slapstick farce from Spain. This could have been so much better if only they'd injected even an iota of subtlety into the film, but as it is, it's all very in-your-face and overly obvious.
It begins with promise: a suave, arrogantly self-confident department store salesman tells us (in voiceover narration, always a bad sign...) of his plans to ascend to the glorious heights of floor manager, once he vanquishes his nerdy nemesis, the head of the men's clothing department. Along the way we are seduced by his casual amorality, flirting with and bedding all the women working in his department. All but one, that is: a stray 'ugly girl' is in the flock, and she has her eyes on him. When murder enters into the picture, so does blackmail, and soon she has him over a barrel, and once his perfect world is undone, he goes mad. Not slowly, mind you, but in the blink of an eye, at the same manic pace as everything else in this film.
This is a grating, dark, "War Of The Roses"-ish comedy, which sneers at and nakedly mocks all its characters, showing humanity at its worst. That would be all well and fine, if the filmmakers had something more substantive to pin their contempt on... But the savage depictation of consumer culture shown in the seething hordes that shop at the store has no depth -- it's as simplistic and hurried as everything else in this movie. Facile, mean-spirited and ultimately tiresome, this is not a film I would recommend.
Best spanish movie to this date.....it's a must see..........2007-03-18
The movie per se is entertaining and original and fun to watch. It is almost never dull, it is always keeping you on the edge of your seat to see what will happen next and all is done precisely and cleverly. This is a great film to see in class or with your friends or girl-friend, it's all good n fun -black humour- that adds the right stuff to this perfect production.
On that note:
The majority of the Spanish-girls (of Spain) in this film are flawless and erotic, be warn, the first 30mins of this film entices you with beauty, greed and sex. Afterwards, it gets more philosophical, sadistic and pensive. Moreover the film tends to be a monologue of Rafael's triumphs, misfortunes and schemes.
On the plus side, this film will make you want to go to Spain....heheh
Anyhow,
10/10 = A+
Retail Might Kill You--An Uproarious Black Comedy From Spain.......2006-11-20
I had seen a preview for "Crimen Perfecto" in the theaters quite a while ago, and I thought it looked like a cute diversion. However, I was not prepared for this outrageously funny black comedy--it so far exceeded my expectations that I can't recommend it highly enough. Part sex romp, part macabre murder, part emotional blackmail, part supernatural, part retail satire--this one really covers a lot of ground in a very silly way. It's dark humor, sometimes mean-spirited, in the vein of perhaps "A Fish Called Wanda."
Rafael, played nicely by Guillermo Toledo, is a Department Store lothario. Manager of Women's Wear, he is working his way through the attractive sales staff. When a promotion to Floor Supervisor doesn't go his way, he is infuriated. Confronting his nemesis, who has received the job, an altercation ensues leaving the rival dead. But there's a witness. Homely Lourdes, a delightful Monica Cervera, helps him cover up the accident because she is secretly in love with Rafael. But this entwines them in the crime and in life.
The movie turns into a demented battle of wills and blackmail. Advised by the ghoulish specter of the dead man, Rafael plots to extricate himself from the clutches of an increasingly bizarre Lourdes. Played fast and loose, this is a laugh out loud comedy--but it's clever too. It's outrageous, but not dumb--a perfect balance of slapstick and wit. But it can be the blackest of humor as well--what with murder, dismemberment and more. And I loved the Department Store setting--anyone who has ever worked retail will appreciate the astute satire of this backdrop.
Not necessarily a classic, but a movie I will share with others--I'd rate this at about 4 1/2 stars for entertainment value. KGHarris, 11/06.
Absolutely fabulous black crime comedy from Spain!.......2006-04-17
I had the delight of getting notified about this DVD from Netflix. Apparently it is currently (Jan 2005) only available on US-format DVD through their rental service. I certainly hope that it becomes available on the US market soon, because this is a not-to-be-missed comedy for anyone who likes dark (yet light), offbeat cinema.
Crimen Perfecto is a brilliantly funny, brilliantly hip, comically dark movie about life in a department store. The Don Juan of salesmen, a complete ladies' man and the perfect salesman, named Rafael, is in bitter competition with a rival salesman for the royal floor manager position in an upscale Spanish department store. Our Rafael addresses the camera directly in the opening scenes, showing his lovably empty desire for both women and material objects. When Rafael's archr-ival wins the competition for floor manager and dies in the same day, our salesman Casanova loses his cool. An unlikely angel comes to his rescue in the form of Lourdes, the frizzy-haired brunette with a nasty smile, a woman who Rafael never acknowledged in his previous life.
Rafael achieves his dream of becoming floor manager, since his competitor has died, but his triumph comes at the expense of owing it all to the strange and obsessive Lourdes. In his own words, "it became a twisted game in which I'd do exactly what she said, or she'd call the police." Upon meeting Lourdes's family, life becomes even scarier. Rafael starts to hallucinate that his dead rival wants him to kill Lourdes, but he is unable to do so.
This is a dark film that is surprisingly light and upbeat at the same time. Womanizing, death, murder, stalking, arson, and the like are all treated in the light of a fabulous European department store. Don't miss this one!
Fellini meets Hitchcock.......2006-02-25
Gosh, given the other review, I must not have typical American taste. This movie is funny. It gets off to a slow start with lurid sex scenes, but when the Beetlejuice-costumed murder victim's ghost shows up, things get wild and hilarious. Not great art, but a good time: a sardonic salute to the power of the tasteless (see reference to Feliini in title line) coupled with a Hitchcock-like labyrinthine plan to commit murder.

Customer Reviews:
Misnamed and kind of boring.......2007-07-02
This really should be labeled as a total body workout. There are 4 10-minute sections: stretch, lower body, upper body, and abs. I was expecting to get a variety of 10-minute ab workouts.
The stretch section is probably the best part of this DVD. The other sections are pretty basic. The abs section is a true disappointment--it's mostly crunches with a few minor variations. It wasn't very challenging, either, even for a beginner/intermediate like me.
The instructor is pleasant and the cuing is good. The set and production values are sparse--it looks like someone set up a camcorder in a warehouse. This isn't the worst workout ever, but it's far from the best.
Great video!!.......2007-05-06
I absolutely love this video. I use it in the morning and in the evening. This is definitely a video for those of us who are pressed for time or can't really get up early enough in the morning to exercise for half an hour. The who video is broken down in to categories like stretching, upper body, lower body and abs and the section is limited to ten minute increments. It is very effective and very doable for everyone!
Perfectly doable.......2006-12-12
Now, I don't know too much about fitness instruction, either on a video or elsewhere, so this review just comes from someone who desperately wants to pull her tummy back in. Tanna looks the very picture of health, so I'm going to take her word for it. And let me say at the outset that it's a tremendous relief nto to have someone going whoooo---wheeee--good job all through. I hate that! Just get on with it! And that's what Tanna Valentine does.
I've just acquired a bunch of fitness videos (some bellydance-flavoured and some not) and I found myself picking this one to begin with. The word "abs" always gets me, but apart from that I found it was one of the more doable ones. The learning of the actual moves isn't so difficult, thank God. The video, under the eye of fitness guru Andy Troy, has four segments, each of 10 minutes. I have no idea whether 10 minutes a day would actually get you fit and trim in the tummy, but I rather doubt that one can do that math because it depends on what else you're doing--and eating. Good sense says there can be no magic. Anyone would have to work at it and do so in more than one way. Eat junk half the day, sit splat on your bottom the rest of the day, and it's a sure shot you won't lose much weight, workout or no workout.
The first segment is a set of lovely stretches that, I have to say, feel very very good. In fact, I'd love to know whether there's any benefit to stretching the stretch segment for a whole lot longer. Tanna's instruction is clear, very straightforward, and goes at a very comfortable and nice pace. Another thing I hage is videos that go frantically from one move to the next, leaving you disoriented while you figure out what just happened here. The second segment is a lower body workout. This has bridging, leg lifts, squats, and similar moves. This one works you harder than the stretches, of course. Then there's an upper body workout which I'm afraid I'm going to skip because it uses weights, which I haven't yet acquired. I bellydance so I'm counting on a lot that happens there to keep my upper body fit. The last segment is the abs segment and that's the toughest. I'm easing into that segment slowly and like it very much.
That's it! 40 minutes--10 for each workout. I love the wholesome and clean feel of this whole video and plan to stick with it for a long while. Whether the workouts work for me or not - I will report after a few months. Meanwhile, I do like it enough to have presented it to an abs-obsessed friend as well.
Oh--a note on how I'm working with this video. I first watch a segment a couple of times and make sure I note the specifics of each move. Including the safety tips. I then make sure I know the sequence. And then I do-along. I started by covering the stretches segment fully, but stopped for the day and added parts of the next segment the next day, easing into it rather than trying the whole lot at one go.

If you are tired of the canned enthusiasm, confusing routines, and sometimes dangerous directives of the latest wave of fat-blasting, kung-fu-fighting, contortionist fitness trends, introduce yourself to Jennifer Kries, the most refreshing instructor to hit home televisions in the past decade. Kries has developed an impressive array of videos and DVDs devoted to what she calls "three-dimensional toning," focusing on "improving the body's efficiency and functionality rather than just changing its appearance."
Perfect Mix is split into three 20-minute segments, each emphasizing a different fitness goal but sharing the same movements and methods. The first segment, "Core Contouring," uses traditional yoga and Pilates moves to focus on improving total body strength. The next section, "Metabolic Booster," is a cardio boost, using light weight training to burn calories while working different muscles groups throughout the entire body. Finally the yoga-based "Rejuvenation" segment brings down the heart rate and promotes flexibility and mindfulness.
Kries is a patient and surprisingly empathetic instructor--she is hyperaware of her own freakish flexibility, and constantly reminds viewers to "listen to your body and never move to the point of pain." Because she is so focused on breathing and precision of movement, the best thing about the DVD is the ability to use slow-motion controls to really improve your form (this is a no-frills DVD, with a music-only option, which is peculiar; the point is not to stare at a TV screen, and the teacher's vocal guidance is usually an essential part of that process). Kries moves through the routines rather quickly, only doing a few repetitions of each exercise, and while this prevents boredom it also makes it easy to skimp on the moves and not give the full attention needed to really feel the workout. When done correctly this is the perfect class to follow a long hard day at work--it is both energizing and invigorating without being physically and mentally exhausting. --Daphne Durham

The Best Ever!.......2006-12-13
I love this DVD! Jennifer Kries is so pleasant that it's like having a good friend over for tea. I absolutely love the fluid movements of the warm up. And the second section is a great way for me to do all the pilates I need without going overboard--the whole thing lasts about an hour and is really enjoyable. I feel great after and it stays with me all day.
Everything you need.......2005-03-08
I have several pilates- and yoga-inspired workout dvd's, but I always end up going back to this one. The 2 main reasons for this are: 1)Each workout, and the 3 together, have a great amount of variety and they don't get boring, and 2)Everything you need is on this one dvd. The metabolic booster, my favorite segment, includes total-body strength, stretching, and cardio. I am not much for dancing, but I learned this routine fairly painlessly and continue to enjoy it. For me the routine quite effectively targets the buns without endless and boring squats and lunges, which I appreciate. I usually follow the metabolic booster with the core conditioning segment, which targets more muscle groups than your average 20-minute pilates routine. I like the final rejuvevation segment for days when I'm not feeling up to a full workout, or if I've gotten a little out of shape and I need to ease back into the other 2 workous. I am thrilled with this dvd and I highly recommend it.
This is an excellent workout!!!!!!.......2005-01-12
This is my favorite workout CD. I've have been doing pilates for quite some time but have been concerned that it doesn't really have that cardio effect. This tape has it all. The metabolic booster is a great compliment to the other two segments. And, Jennifer moves right through without an endless description of how to do each movement. I highly recommend this CD!
a "perfect" workout!.......2004-04-29
I am so glad I ordered this DVD! I think Jennifer Kries gives great instruction, and unlike some new pilates videos out there being marketed by any fitness guru, Jennifer Kries makes certain that you understand proper breathing and "navel to spine". She also gives little reminders about form, that I found helpful.
The core segment is classic pilates exercises with some yoga poses thrown in. Jennifer gives great instruction, and actually tells you when you *should* be feeling the work in the abdominals (and she was right!), she takes time to stretch between more difficult exercises, and shows ways to modify harder exercises.
The booster segment is tricky the first time- and yet I still managed to do it. Although the movements are fast- they are graceful, and the cueing is excellant. This segment is alot like Jody Hoegstedt's "balletone" if you have it- only with weights. I definitely got my heart rate up, and felt like I had a good inner thigh workout.
The last segment is titled "rejuvenation" and it is a relaxing yoga series. I sometimes skip the booster if I have already done cardio that day, but I *never* skip the final session. It is lovely, and I enjoy seeing how flexible Jennifer is, it gives me something to aspire to.
Some have said this is advanced... This was my second pilates tape (I also have Denise Austins "Pilates for Every Body- different than this, but loved it, too) and because I am fairly flexible from yoga practises, I did not feel like this was too difficult. I felt challanged, and got a great workout, but did not feel overworked or strained. I felt lifted and relaxed!
Stop Talking Already.......2004-02-18
This is a terrible video. I enjoy exercise videos but this is one of the worst. The instructor doesn't stop talking. It's nice to be guided through postures but she doesn't shut up. She also takes atleast five minutes of each segment and tells you how to breathe. It felt like a Lamaze class. The first segment is Core Conditioning. It concentrates on your abs and lower spine. It's not half bad and she does explain things nicely, which is good if you've never done Pilates.
The second segment, Metabolic Booster, is ridiculous. She's jumping and dancing all over the place. You'd have to watch it quite a few times to get the moves down. The last segment, Rejuvination, is based on yoga. Again, she babbles on for about five minutes then finally takes you through a few common postures. Thankfully I only rented this video.

Good exercises.......2007-05-14
I like the exercises on this video. The lady that leads them is a little weird, though. Sometimes it sounds like she isn't sure what she's talking about. I would have liked to have seen ahead of time that I would need certain equipment in order to participate in all the workouts, like a strength band, a medicine ball, what size weights, etc. Over all, though, it's a really good work out.
Rated as a Top prental DVD for a reason.......2006-08-16
I really enjoyed this DVD. Out of all of the prenatal DVDs I have used, this one demonstrated the most thorough understanding of the physiological needs and demands of a woman in all phases of pregnancy. The exercises are challenging enough, yet I really felt safe. My highest recommendation.
