Product Description
Four planes had been hijacked. One would crash into the Pentagon, one would be brought down in a field in Pennsylvania. Two would crash into the World Trade Center where thousands would lose their lives. No one could believe the devastation, over which a single flag would rise, in a place called Ground Zero.
Now In Memoriam: New York City, 9/11/01 draws on an incredible gathering of still and video material from more than 100 people in and around New York City who witnessed the day's events. The program presents a panoramic and unique historical record of the day, supported by a moving score performed by the New York Philharmonic, composed entirely of music by American composers.
Running Time: 60 min.

Originally shown on HBO on May 26, 2002, In Memoriam is one of the most vital documents to emerge after the events of September 11, 2001. Compiled from over 100 sources, this collage of audio, video, and photography will provoke tears, anger, and grief all over again... so why watch it? The title states the purpose: as disturbing as some of these images are, they are also bursting with tenacious and inspiring humanity, bolstered by the wisdom of New York City's then-mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who recalls--along with his executive staff--the horrendous events of 9/11 as he entered the chaos of Ground Zero. With its closing montage of numerous memorial services, this exemplary 60-minute film, supplemented on the DVD by an interactive timeline of pivotal events, makes it virtually impossible to forget the 3,047 lives lost to terrorist brutality. Despite the astonishing scope of coverage provided, this is not a journalistic endeavor, but a potent visual reminder that 9/11 was a day of unity, transcending the horrors witnessed here. --Jeff Shannon

Great documentary about a terrible day........2007-09-10
9-11-01. Pretty much one of the worst days in American history. A day which we as a people should never be allowed to forget or become complacent about. This documentary serves as an excellent reminder, not only of the events of that day, but of the emotions which came with it. If you're anything like me, whatever feelings you felt that day will come rushing back after (and quite probably during) watching this.
I highly recommend this DVD.
Interesting.......2007-09-03
Thought it was well made, and impressed with the rare footage shown. A little bit dated looking, but overall good value.
Excellent.......2007-03-08
If you've never seen this HBO documentary, you haven't seen an important part of history. I teach at a private university in Tampa and I use this documentary in my 9/11 and the Media class. My students literally watch the movie in silence and there is not a dry eye in the room after 60 minutes. This is a compelling feature; it is probably one of thee premiere documentaries ever made and an almost unbelievable account of 9/11. Hats off to the producers; this is one of the documentaries that will be a timeless reminder of what happened that day.
A Time For Closure.......2007-01-06
9/11 was a terrible day for all free people. I know that the ramifications of it have affected me, as they have all of us, ever since. Finally I feel my emotions are healing from this horrendous loss and carnage. This film, to me at least,is not unlike attending a wake for a loved one who has died.
It has been a real part of my personal journey, to put this event behind me and go on now in the present. No, I did not say forget. We must always remember the thousands of people who died so needlessly, and the 343 FDNY firefighters, the EMT's, cops and even some civilians, who rushed in to help rescue the others who were rushing out, to provide medical aid to the injured, and to give comfort to the dying. Let them inspire us all.
hands down, one of the best.......2006-09-17
If you want to remember that day that you rushed to the television as I did and if you want to watch the horrible events unfold before your eyes and the feelings you felt that inspired you to act, then this is the video to watch.
Are you a conspiracy theorist, or are you a follower of patriotism and the men who led this country after the events that happened that day? Or are you one of millions that would just rather not remember at all and want to go on with your life? No matter...
This was ground zero, and if you want to see the world that it is today and all the events going on then you need to relive the horror of that day. Because this is the root of what is happening. There are no clear answers yet. I've heard the conspiracy theorists and as someone who knows air travel, aircraft, the aviation system, I can tell you their conclusions are so full of holes that they make themselves look silly to people who live aviation on the scale it was exloited that day.
Or are you a patriot blindly following the people who lead in order to prevent another disaster? Then I can tell you that their stories and actions are just as full of holes as the conspiracies. They paint a misrepresented picture also.
Or are you that complacent person who either doesn't want to remember at all or doesn't care?
Ground zero was where it started. Before you get set into following one side or the other, it's best to revisit the events of that day and remember the innocents who died and those who suffered. Watch it then ask yourself if you are so willing to jump on one bandwagon or the other?
The greatest tragedy of all right now is that all these years after, citizens have stood by and let a government of bickering and self servicing interests coast by with not having laid a single stone on top of another to memorialize the events of that day. That in itself is a statement of a country of apathy. If we are all that apathetic, then perhaps it's time to go back to ground zero and feel the pain once again. This is the video that will make that happen....

To anyone who truly understands what it means to be an American, Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 should be seen as a triumph of patriotic freedom. Rarely has the First Amendment been exercised with such fervor and forthrightness of purpose: After subjecting himself to charges of factual errors in his gun-lobby exposé Bowling for Columbine, Moore armed himself with a platoon of reputable fact-checkers, an abundance of indisputable film and video footage, and his own ironically comedic sense of righteous indignation, with the singular intention of toppling the war-ravaged administration of President George W. Bush. It's the Bush presidency that Moore, with his provocative array of facts and figures, blames for corporate corruption, senseless death, unnecessary war, and political favoritism toward Osama Bin Laden's family and Saudi oil partners following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Moore's incendiary film earned Palme d'Or honors at Cannes and a predictable legion of detractors, but do yourself a favor: Ignore those who condemn the film without seeing it, and let the facts speak for themselves. By honoring American soldiers and the victims of 9/11 while condemning Bush's rationale for war in Iraq, Fahrenheit 9/11 may actually succeed in turning the tides of history. --Jeff Shannon

A mirror into a society........2007-09-09
When one looks into a mirror, he or she sees his/her person in its true form. The reflection shows everything the viewer wants to see. After looking into the relfection, the viewer can have a varied number of reactions - basically either pleasureable or displeasing.
All subjects that face a mirror have either of these two characteristics -whether it be a person, a group of people or an entire society. And it is the same with America.
Michael Moore provides a "mirror" to current American society that many in his country do not appreciate. Why? He moves the "mirror" around the subject and shows the defects of his society (as in all societies). "A prophet is never welcome in his own country", so the saying goes, and it will be a matter of time before his views on this controversial matter are truly examined.
Micheal Moore's so called "documentary" is nothing more than a personal attack..........2007-08-19
Michael Moore has something personal against President Bush because this wasn't a documentary, it was a personal attack, and he has no idea of Bush's motives or even the way Bush thinks. I don't agree with everything President Bush has done, but if I were to try and create an anti-Bush documentary, I certainly wouldn't make it so personal with fewer facts than sarcasm.
"Fool Me Once, Shame On You! Fool Me Twice...".......2007-08-14
I used to be a Conservative Republican. I voted for George Bush in 2000. I used to think Michael Moore was a big fat, disgustiung ogre who had a chip on his shoulder against President Bush. Watching him up there on the stage at the Oscars giving his acceptance speech in 2003 enraged me at the time. But one year after the Iraq war, things started coming unraveled that would change my faith in the GOP and give this movie an honest look.
More and more, I started hearing about bad intelligence. One was the fact that Iraq had "NO" weapons of mass destruction, as alleged by the Bush Administration. Intelligence made up by the CIA had us believing Hussein was manufacturing Uranium in the African country of Niger. That intelligence was rebuked by PBS's Frontline story, "The Dark Side" and lead to the outing of CIA agent, Valerie Plame by Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, L. "Scooter" Libby. Another was the fact that the Patriot Act was never scrutinized when it was passed. This was information I already knew prior to watching this film. Democrats never stood up and questioned the blatant violation of the First Ammendment for fear of being, "Unpatriotic". But what put me over the edge was the fact that Saddam Hussein was made a scapegoat to coverup the Bin-Laden/Bush linkage.
I sincerely wonder if the Administration knew about 9/11and did nothing to stop it. There are so many questions that Michael Moore asked in this film that were never asked by the mainstream press (FOX, CNN,NBC, ABC, CBS). That leads me to believe, either the Americans are dumb or just plain stupid for not. Judging from the results of the 2004 election, Americans have only themselves to blame for this debacle for not getting rid of the problem. Me included!
Whatever your feelings on Michael Moore, you owe it to yourself to watch this film. Take the name Moor out of the mix and imagine it was made by someone else. At least get both sides of the story and make a honest judgement on President George W. Bush and his decisions.
Important movie.......2007-08-05
If only we had listened to the message in this movie, Kerry and the country could have begun the long process of rebuilding from the disaster that is GW Bush four years earlier than how it turned out. Not that Ohio wasn't stolen or anything....
Nailed It!.......2007-07-10
The guys a documentary genius. I don't like some of the ambush tactics he uses in his films, but never-the-less, he's usually dead on. Those who love him and those who hate him can argue all day long, but he's yet to lose a libel suit. If you haven't seen this film before, or since the war started, check out a copy. It's more on the mark today in reflection than it even was during it's release. Too bad the news is so controlled today, otherwise they'd be running Bush out of town for all the lies and damage he's done to this country and it's security. Of course if you are one of the 17% remaining with W's on your car that are still looking under rocks for WMD and think that W can walk on water, than this one is not for you, or your blook pressure. Check out Sicko while you are at it. Everyone can agree what a mess our health care is, and Sicko will make you sick at how Washington does nothing while people suffer.

The political becomes personal in 9/11: Press for Truth, which examines the World Trade Center attacks from the perspective of the families who lost loved ones. Written and directed by Ray Nowosielski, the documentary draws partly from Paul Thompson's website-turned-book, The Terror Timeline, and much of the commentary comes from Lorie Van Auken, Patty Casazza, and Mindy Kleinberg, three of the "Jersey Girls." Along with Kristen Breitweiser, the 9/11 widows have become activists in its wake. As Casazza says, "We all had questions...and wanted answers." The primary one was: How could this happen? Interestingly, two of the women voted for Bush. Casazza adds, "Even though he should have been our biggest advocate, he turned into one of our biggest adversaries." Together with eight other spouses, parents, etc., they form the Family Steering Committee and lobby for an independent commission, which comes to pass, but fails to deliver the goods. The widows find more useful information in Thompson's timeline, which he compiled using material in the public domain (Thompson also appears in the film). The style of 9/11: Press for Truth couldn't be more conventional--talking heads, television footage, omniscient narrator, relentless score--but the personal approach makes it a valuable addition to the rapidly-growing list of 9/11 documentaries. The point is, to quote Patti Smith, "people have the power"--people like the Jersey Girls, Paul Thompson, and all the other ordinary citizens who have kept pressure on our elected officials and the news media to dig deeper and work harder. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Description
The Coverup Exposed By The 9/11 Families
"They lied, they all lied." --Patty Casazza (one of the "Jersey Girls")
"We don't know the whole story, not at all" -- Lorie Van Auken (one of the "Jersey Girls")
"9/11 was the biggest 'don't ask-don't tell" --Sally Regenhard, lost Firefighter son.
"Press for Truth" is an astonishing portrayal of the lengths our public servants will go to protect themselves from any accountability. --Scott Horton, Antiwar.com
Although independent investigations began within weeks of both Pearl Harbor and the Kennedy assassination, the same was not true of the attacks of September 11th. Most are unaware that formation of the 9/11 Commission was strongly opposed by many in Washington, including the Bush administration. It was only due to pressure from the 9/11 families, led by a particular twelve calling themselves the Family Steering Committee, that, fourteen months after the attacks, the first hearing finally began. These twelve remained active in monitoring the Commission's investigation, providing a list of hundreds of specific, well-researched questions to the Commissioners. In the end, the 9/11 Commission Final Report failed to answer seventy percent of them.
In 9/11 PRESS FOR TRUTH, five of the most prominent members of the Family Steering Committee, including interviews with three of the "Jersey Girls," tell their story for the first time, providing the most powerful argument yet for why 9/11 still needs investigation. Adapting Paul Thompson's definitive Complete 9/11 Timeline (published by Harper-Collins as The Terror Timeline), the filmmakers stitch together rare, overlooked news clips, buried stories, and government press conferences, revealing a pattern of official lies, deception, and spin.

Lots of unanswered questions.......2007-09-06
This is frustrating to watch because there is so much we don't know about 9/11 and nobody seems to care. Very well made & produced.
Well-crafted 9/11 documentary, good intro to 9/11 Truth.......2007-08-22
This film is a quality, professional production that details many of the glaring lies and contradictions in the U.S. Government's story about the 9/11 Attacks. It shows many mainstream acknowledged details about foreknowledge of attacks and exposes connections between the CIA, Pakistani ISI, and Bin Laden's Al Qaeda fighters. It could have gone much farther in presenting damning evidence, but it sticks to the details that support a "let it happen on purpose" hypothesis. The film relies heavily on Paul Thompson's timeline surrounding 9/11 and the efforts of the Jersey widows to get the government to respond to their questions about 9/11. Their testimony reveals that most of their questions and concerns were ignored by the government, as a majority of 9/11 families now support further investigation and distrust the government. This movie shows that the 9/11 Truth movement honors the dead and their families by seeking the truth and justice pertaining to those events. Those who truly dishonor the families of those killed in the attacks are the government and media gangsters who suppress new investigations and defend the litany of lies offered by the government.
Doesn't go far enough..........2007-08-19
This is a good movie which gently exposes the Truth of 9/11 but it does not cover the real conspiracy behind the crime.
A careful, low-key conspiracy theory expose.......2007-08-08
As someone who long ago abandoned belief in the "official" story, it seems to me that the strength of this film is its introduction of the basics of the alternative explanations of what really happened, in a manner so matter-of-fact that the average viewer will not be so quick to deny them. This, and the conventional, mainstream sources sited position this as a potential breakthrough film for the 9/11 truth movement.
Anyone open-minded and interested enough to want more info should check out The Terror Timeline, written by Paul Thompson, the "citizen journalist" that appears in the film. Although the information in this book is certainly highly suggestive on its own merits, Mr. Thompson has taken an even-handed approach that allow individuals to draw their own conclusions.
Please show this to your friends and family..........2007-07-18
This information needs to be seen by every patriotic American! It's time for change in the political system of our nation... War for profit and needless loss of our childrens lives must end! A must see!

This is the official version created (and endorsed) by director Sofia Smallstorm.
"Watch and decide for yourself." - Rosie O'Donnell
"Excellent. The best of the 9/11 movies." - David Ray
Griffin, author of The New Pearl Harbor
"An outstanding contribution to understanding 9/11. Simply superb." - James H. Fetzer, founder, Scholars for 911 Truth
"WOW! is my reaction to this movie. - Steven E. Jones, physics professor, Brigham Young University
"A superb work and asset to the patriot community and America itself." - Aaron Russo, producer/director, America: From Freedom to Fascism
Tall buildings shatter in 10 seconds; steel beams buckle as if crushed by Superman; a volcano of ash darkens the sky. Can jet fuel perform such a feat?
911 Mysteries is a careful deconstruction of the official story set alongside clean, clear science. It is ninety-minutes of pure demolition evidence and analysis, laced with eye opening witness testimonials.
The 9/11 picture is not one of politics or nationalism or loyalty, but one of strict and simple physics: How do you get a 10-second,110-story pancake collapse of a major structure?
This is the film that might actually reach out to mainstream America-no agenda, no finger-pointing-just the facts and "mysteries." It is a story of people. Willie Rodriguez's recollection of strange noises on the 34th floor, and Scott Forbes' similar story. Who was up there bumping around just weeks before the towers fell?
This is also the story of blasting itself; how shaped charges are strategically placed to slice through steel beams, allowing total control of how a building falls. This information helps give a better understanding of how a building can be purposely set to collapse and shed insight into what happened on the fateful day of 9/11.

Just another hate Bush documentary........2007-09-17
You conspiracy nuts need to really get a life. If it were an inside job, then who attacked WTC in 1993, Clinton? And where are all these people that were involved in such a big job? And how long would it have taken for the government to setup such explosives? Your guys never take these basic thoughts into mind. There is not one person that can claim they were involved in plotting planning or setting up these so-called explosives. And no one heard them or saw them putting these explosives on two 110 story buildings and WTC7?
You people don't really care about facts, you're just driven by this blind hatred for Bush and you'll buy into any conjured up idea that can make Bush look bad.
The rest of America can see right through these hate Bush propaganda that are in everyone's face. They will keep making more of them and feeding themselves more and more hatred for the rest of us Americans that don't blame the Government. The real truth is they are just haters and have brainwashed themselves paranoid of the their own government that give them their freedoms which they claim they don't have.
911 INSIDE JOB .......2007-09-14
I say worth every penny I spent. The events of September the 11th, 2001 forever changed the world. 9/11/2001 has been used to justify two major wars (with more wars to come) and a dramatic increase in both the size and scope of domestic law enforcement.
How much do we really know about 9/11/2001? We need more Americans to buy items like this to help expose those really responsible for 9-11-2001 within our own government.
Absolutely a must!.......2007-09-09
This is an excellent, very educative, documentary on 9-11. Well researched and accurately presented material. If this movie does not affect your consciousness, you are in a hopeless denial.
If There Is Any Film That Needs To Be Seen This Is It.......2007-08-16
If you don't know yet that 9/11 was an inside job, see this film and be prepared to cry.
Many questions do remain about 9/11. However, whether it was false flag terrorism is not one of them, as this film makes abundantly clear. It carries the smoking gun visual footage that makes the unassailable case.
Everyone in the Western world needs to see this film.
Garbage.......2007-08-14
Most of the concepts in this movie your typical conspiracy theory. I am amazed the amount of garbage that people will believe. I would avoid this moive at all costs since it is based on proven lies.
Description
With the increasing controversy surrounding the federal probe into the September 11 terrorist attacks, GNN decided to pre-empt the government and produce its own version of a `truth commission' with AFTERMATH: Unanswered Question from 9/11.
What did the Bush administration know and when? Should airlines have been more prepared for 9/11? What ties did the US government have, if any, with the terrorists?
AfterMath delves into the troubling span of issues that have arisen since the attacks on 9/11, including:
- the negligence of military officials in reacting to the hijackings, - proven links between the hijackers, Pakistani intelligence (ISI) and the CIA - the role of oil in the Eurasian conflict, - the impact of post-911 legislation on American civil liberties.
The film poses questions that continue to overshadow and critically challenge the administration's official version of the story, and is a must see for those who continue to question the terrible and as yet unexplained events of that day.
Extras Over 90 minutes bonus footage Extended interview clips Live panel discussion featuring George Soros, Mike Ruppert, Nafeez Ahmed and more!
Narration and original score by hip-hop legend Paris.

Too Little But Not Too Late.......2007-09-06
This video is fine as a short and sweet introduction to 9/11 issues, but leaves informed viewers asking "where's the beef?" A far superior film addressing similar testimony that I would rate a "4" is "9/11: Press for Truth" which again, I would say is important, but "introductory," material that illustrates the sham of the 9/11 Commission. Two "five-star" DVDs after this are "911: In Plane Site" and "9/11 Mysteries: Part 1: Demolitions," both of which will rock your world with hard evidence not only of negligence and foreknowledge by powers in "high places," but circumstantially point to the disturbing reality of lies, fabrication, and collusion. Follow these up with Alex Jones' "Terrorstorm" and/or "Martial Law 9-11: Rise of the Police State" and you'll get a fairly complete picture of the "why?" behind the truth. Jones' alarmist tone can be annoying, but his research and conclusions are pretty solid--as I said, he provides a "big picture" look at the global politics and purpose for orchestrating such an event. Also, related to 9/11 for those interested in the history and future of Islamic terrorism, politics and prophecy pertaining to war in the Middle East, read Dave Hunt's "Judgment Day! Islam, Israel, and the Nations," and view the DVD, "Israel, Islam, and Armageddon."
Conspiracy?.......2007-07-23
I am intrigued by this short DVD about the effect that 9/11 has played on the american psyche. it is informative and leaves you wondering about the quesions posed and the bills that have passed through the senate. It has certainly opened up a new area in the living world about what our governments are doing to protect us or themselves?
Mandatory viewing!.......2007-07-06
It is essential to watch not just the movie, but the special features on this DVD; all of them. While there is a lot more information out in the world and on the Internet regarding 9/11 and the truth that dare not speak its name, much of it is concentrated on this DVD. From here, with computer links, one can explore as far and wide as the eye (and heart) can see.
We all should be asking these questions - and it is upon us as American citizens to be demanding answers, while our citizenship still means anything at all!

Good additional material to 9/11 Mysteries.......2007-03-18
This is interesting, but the most convincing 9/11 conspiracy documentary was 9/11 mysteries.
Aftermath: Unanswered Questions from 9/11.......2007-02-06
First I want to say that the shipping and service was first rate. This movie was OK, but it was not the movie I thought I was ordering. That is no fault of the seller. There is another that is more informative that I still have not located. This one is good as a warm-up to one I saw at a friends home. This movie is thought provoking, but it is a toned down version of the other whose title I am not sure of.

A Must See.......2007-09-07
Incredible depiction of one of the worst days in the lives of the American people. I was glued to my television screen. Totally impressed with the way they produced it. Just the facts. It was also wonderful seeing the American people bond. We should never forget this day. I am keeping this DVD to remind myself how we, as a nation, in times of peril can pull together. Too bad we can't be like that all the time. I have never written a review before but I felt strongly about this movie. You won't regret buying this DVD.
Incredible Footage.......2007-04-10
I had seen some other 9/11 movies and even those I thought were somewhat not-another-one. This was quite different. A lot of "raw" footage, much of what I had not seen. Even the footage that I had seen, there was a lot more behind the scenes information. Let's not forget.
Wow.......2006-05-18
The title of my review speaks for itself. Really well done. This piece is nothing like I've seen before, and I've seen a great deal on the subject. If you are obsessed with 9/11 as I am (it's my way of dealing with the tragic events that I was mere hours away from being in the middle of via my commute - thank God I worked at night) you must purchase this DVD. GOD BLESS THE VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES!!
NOTHING BUT LIBERAL PROPAGANDA ............2006-05-09
This film occupies the "touchy-feely" niche of the 9-11 documentaries. If you want to see New Yorkers talk about their angst and sing "Give Peace a Chance" then this might be for you. Air time is also given to disrespecting the American flag, and how this is all our fault for treating the Arab-Muslims so poorly. Multi-culturalism (except for the American culture of course) is the key to a peaceful future.
Also we get to see Bill and Chelsea Clinton rally the city by their mere presence. Funny how I don't remember that being a significant factor at the time. A pre-teen tells us ad infinitum how wrong it is to go to war in retaliation, since we would be risking nuclear Armageddon as a result. No doubt he was drawing on his extensive life experience to reach that conclusion. Lighting a few hundred candles is certainly a better course of action to keep us safe.
One of the many mistaken assumptions in this film is that all opinions are equally valid, except (apparently) those that should count the most. We hear almost nothing from the firefighters or police of New York, or any of our military personnel.
My advice is to spend your money on anything but this, but if you voted for Al or John, please note I'll be selling my copy cheap.
an interesting piece.......2006-03-01
the most captivating genre of the film is how raw and in shock everyone is.It takes you right back to that surreal frightening tragic time.A worthy buy,as a reminder of the day the world changed.

saint.......2007-06-14
This is a wonderful dvd. I'm sure he'd be proud that his life has been an inspiration to so many. His compassion for the forgotten in our society was awe inspiring. I wish I had known him. He made the love of all God's children easy to understand. Human sexuality is a spectrum and God loves us all because he made us all. He made it wasy to understand why we are not to judge, that is left up to God. How wonderful it would be for him to be called a Saint by our troubled Church, but his is truely a saint with a small s that we are all called to be !
Saint of 9-11 worthy of Reflection.......2007-03-10
What a great tribute to Father Mychal and the Franciscans: men living what they preach. I must see for all truly spiritual people.
GAY HEROISM.......2006-12-25
?SAINT OF 9/11?
Gay Heroism
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
9/11 is a day many of us will never forget and regardless of the horror and fear that we associate with that fateful date we are indeed proud of the gay men and women who took part in it. ?Saint of 9/11? is a documentary of one of the brave gay individuals who lost his life. The film presents the turbulence and spirituality of Father Mychal Judge, a compassionate champion of the needy and the forgotten. His tenure as chaplain of the New York Fire Department forced him into iconoclasm. He was rousing and a balladeer. Father Mychal also wrestled with his own demons at the same time he was touching others in both powerful and miraculous ways. When September 11 occurred he was already familiar with the pain of loss and battling alcoholism. He was outspoken about Alcoholics Anonymous and he was an openly gay man who loved the priesthood.
?Saint? gives us an inside picture of the spiritual adventure of his life in which the love of alcohol and the love of men took center stage. The movie is about a life that was interrupted too early and as the film shows his utter humanity, it also shows a man who was fighting with himself. The movie is a celebration of his life and gives him the kind of memorial that all of his would love to have but few of us deserve. His life was for others?firemen, the homeless, the sick and the outcast. As much as the loved the church, he did what he thought was right because he knew that was the way it should be done and many times he was at odds with his church.
The movie is a series of interviews with those who knew him best?his friends. This is an absolutely wonderful documentary and gives us the inside of a man who meant so much to so many. There is so much new here that it is a learning experience. This moving tribute will bring tears to your eyes at the same time it will have you chuckling. Ian McKellan serves as the voice of Father Mychal and as the narrator of the film.
The movie is brand new on DVD and if you have the chance don?t miss it. It will show you the goodness of man and at the same time will allow you have a little bit of that horrible day, 9/11 with you for a long time.

The Power of Honesty, Acceptance, Non-Judgement & Loyalty.......2006-10-20
The power of Father Mychal Judge's impact on those who knew him and those, like me, who only met him through this documentary, is his honesty, his ability to accept life as is, and his thoroughly non-judgemental way of interacted with others.
I did not experience this work as a work about a gay man or gay priest or an alcoholic man or an alcoholic priest who showed courage on 9/11. Instead, I experienced this work as being about a man who dealt with alcoholism and who happened to be gay. Each truth is but a component of the man, neither one is his definition. The defining truth about Father Mychal Judge is found in his courage, honesty, capacity for acceptance, his non-judgement of others and his unflinching loyalty to the firefighters. A loyalty that is underscored when one learns that Mayor Guiliani told Father Mychal, who was at the WTC with the firefighters, he could join the mayor's party and go to a safe place. Father Mychal said, "No, I've got to stay with my men."
Father Mychal was administering to a dying firefighter when he was killed in the collapse of the first tower. Father Mychal Judge understood that, as I have heard in the rooms of AA, "Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking less about yourself." I think everyone should see this documentary. Perhaps Father Mychal Judge knew there is no safer place than heaven.
A Selfless, Gay Clergy Member.......2006-10-18
Father Judge died on 9-11 being of assistance to his beloved firefighters. This work explores his life through people who knew him best.
If you loved Mother Theresa, you should love this guy. He helped the homeless. He had ethnic pride. A black man was interviewed who spoke of how Judge befriended and aided him; I get the sense the Father was an anti-racism advocate.
He was human like everyone else, just with a big heart. He admitted to struggling with alcoholism. He got a shamrock tattoo "somewhere private" without realizing it. He was not out everywhere, so the closet was a challenge for him, like many gay men.
Many bigots say that gay men can't be patriotic and are immoral. Here was a man full of ethics. He died helping those in need. He should be respected by people of all sexualities.
I read a review elsewhere that said he couldn't be gay because he was a priest. However, in this work, the people who knew him said he identified as gay. Deal with it if you can't! If I remember correctly, they do not say whether he was always celibate. They could have been braver by truthfully addressing that issue.
Ian McKellen follows Harvey Fierstein in being an openly gay man narrating a documentary about another openly gay man. His voice has the resonance and authority that one would expect for such an accomplished actor.
At times gushy, this piece was still a powerful one that every American should enjoy and from which every American should learn.

Garbage.......2007-09-16
This movie seemed like a series of the worst student films I have ever seen. In addition, some of the acting was the worst since the invention of film. Avoid this garbage as if it was an on-coming semi truck.

"September 11"
Eleven Views
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
Eleven directors from eleven countries have each contributed an eleven minute short film about the events of September 11, 2001 on an amazing new DVD, "September 11" from First Run Features.
This is more than just a film--it is exquisite. Here we have an entire global community showing the effect of a single event on the entire world. We, as Americans, still feel the pain of what happened that fateful day but we also need to know that there is an entire culture which is not American that exists outside of our world which we, as Americans, cannot expect to react, contribute or sympathize in the same way or in the way we would like them to. Here is an illustration of the relativity of the impact that a tragic event can have on everyone.
Each eleven minute film here offers an idea of what and who we are. We see children thousands of miles away who have no concept of American culture. A segment dealing with the Palestinian-Israeli issue shows us that all depends on whose side you are on. There is a film that is just the cacophony of voices which express every emotion on that day while showing visions that defy the conventional understanding of what terror is.
The final film is an allegory that man's need for righteous indignation and violence is a part of his nature. The films vary in content and style and quality especially in regard to terrorist acts in Chile and Palestine and the way that they allude to the American complicity in terrorist acts. There is also a great deal of irony shown here especially in the film from the United States which is directed by Sean Penn. A man is seen grieving in his New York apartment but his shadows of grief disappear when the World Trade Towers fall t the ground and bring him a short lived joy. Through his newly lighted space, he realizes that the wife he has been mourning is really gone now. In the movie from India we see a missing young Pakistani who was thought to be a terrorist turn out to be a hero who sacrificed his own life to save others in the burning WTC.
One of the main themes of the films is that of poignancy and faith. From quoting St. Augustine through anger to the narrating of the tragedy to school children in Iran and their non-caring reaction, the film reminds us once again of that day we will never forget.
We can rest assured that there will be plenty of films about 9/11 and this eleven film compilation is going to prove to be the best of them all, I feel. Of course I cannot say that all of the eleven are great films but taken as a whole "September 11, is impressive, interesting and fascinating.
What I found amazing is shown beautifully in the selection by Amos Gitai of Israel. An Israeli journalist is trying to report on a suicide bombing in Tel Aviv but her story gets bumped because of what is happening in New York which shows just how powerful war and media are and how far we still have t go to find peace in the world. The film reveals the genius of the media in pitting nation against nation and in creating a sense of patriotism which is, indeed, false. War is not good for anyone.
It is not surprising to learn from these films that world regard for America is neutral. We learn why this feeling exists through watching these eleven short films. There are really no bad guys and no good guys--there are only those who suffer. Sure some of the segments here are better than others but seeing the feelings of other countries is important and lets us understand the reality of today.
Hard to find but worth the search.......2007-05-28
Originally titled 11'9"01, this film was retitled September 11th for the US DVD release. The original title is more appropriate since it also expressed the length of each piece. All the filmmakers were commissioned to produce a film that was exactly 11 minutes, 9 seconds and 1 frame long. Apparently this title is out of print, so you'll have to purchase a used version, but that is a small sacrifice for such an amazing film.
The 11 short films are from such excellent directors as Ken Loach(The Wind That Shakes the Barley),Youssef Chahine (Alexandria...Why?), Amos Gitai(Free Zone), Alejandro González Iñárritu(Babel), Shohei Imamura(Vengeance Is Mine - Criterion Collection), Claude Lelouch(Rendezvous), Danis Tanovic(No Man's Land), Samira Makhmalbaf(Blackboards), Mira Nair(Monsoon Wedding), Idrissa Ouedraogo(Tilai), and Sean Penn(The Assassination of Richard Nixon).
Surprisingly, Penn's entry from the US is the least of all these works, and also the least connected to the tragedy of September 11th. All the rest explore the events of the day from a variety of perspectives, including a surprisingly sympathetic view from Iran and a righteous polemic from Egypt. Some of the stories focus on the personal, such as Lelouch's sad and fascinating vingette about a deaf woman and her hearing lover. Others, such as Loach's history lesson on South American politics and the repercussions of American foreign policy, attempt to relate on a more global level. Iñárritu avoids his usual multiple storylines to simply juxtapose horrific images from the day with total silence and blackness, as if to say that it is impossible to convey the enormity and tragedy of it all.
Many of these directors were "undiscovered" in the US when this film was made. Several of them have either won or been nominated for Academy Awards in years since, and all of them turn in first rate work here(except Penn, but I've never cared for his directing anyway, so perhaps it is of a piece with his other work).
When I watched this for the first time recently, in spring 2007, I was struck with a profound sadness and anger. This film was released in September 2002, one year after the attacks. In the 5 years since, every shred of sympathy, compassion and understanding that is expressed in this film was squandered on a ill conceived war in Iraq. Even the most confrontational of these films, Chahine's scathing depiction of an argument between a dead US Marine and an Egyptian filmmaker, expresses compassion for our tragedy. Chahine suggests that the US look at our treatment of the Middle East and take this as a lesson, something to be mourned but also learned from. Even though the filmmaker character is angry with the US for its unilateral viewpoint, he still breaks down with emotion when confronted with the enormity of September 11th. Even though he feels the US needed a wake-up call, he cannot deny that the human cost is too high.
It would be interesting to get these filmmakers together again and make a 27'03"03, on the theme of the Iraq War.
A Mixed but Worthwhile Experience.......2007-01-31
"September 11" is not one film but rather 11 short ones, each directed by a different filmmaker. It attempts to give a variety of perspectives on how people around the globe received the news that the United States had been attacked. Featuring locales as diverse as Israel, Africa, and Japan, as well as the U.S., the film is predictably uneven, given the number of artistic hands at work. Youssef Chanine's Egyptian segment is unfocused and strident, while Shohei Imamura's Japanese piece and Sean Penn's American entry are elusive, at best. Ken Loach's UK piece, on the other hand, works quite well, as a displaced Chilean discusses his country's memories of a different 9/11, and Danis Tanovic's perspective from Bosnia-Herzegovina is also moving. Claude Lelouch's French contribution may be the high point, as it shows a deaf woman who spends all of 9/11 crafting a goodbye note to her lover, who has gone off to his job as a tour guide at the World Trade Center. For obvious reasons, she hears nothing of what has happened until he walks back in the door.
At the very least, the film succeeds in opening the mind to sensory and intellectual responses other than our own to these tragic events. History will have to be the judge of whether "September 11" is great art, just as history will be the judge of how the events of September 11, 2001 changed this country and the world. On both counts, at least a sensible dialogue can be said to have begun.
It drags you in and makes you think!.......2007-01-06
I honestly never read movie reviews to hope to gain understanding of a film. This film really makes you wan't to seek the thoughts of others on it. One reviewer points out that it makes you confused... it leaves you with a need for a better understanding... in this alone the film is a work of art.
Description
For years, they remained nearly invisible, a small group of dedicated men waiting for the perfect chance to strike. Then, on September 11, 2001, after five years of preparation, they took action. The men's full stories and the details of their ambitious plan have now come to light. We track the progress of this unlikely group of young men who developed from unassuming college students into religious martyrs. These men, now known as the Hamburg Cell, were responsible for the cultivation of the al-Qaeda plot code-named "the planes operation". The group's leaders were four well-educated Muslim men who shared a common belief in radical Islam. Though Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Ziad Jarrah, and Ramzi Binalshibh hailed from different countries--Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Yemen--a spirit of brotherhood prevailed among them. And in time, they committed to a singular purpose--to translate their religious fanaticism into catastrophic action.
